Adobada!
Ron R.

I came here over a decade ago, remembering how good it was, but forgetting to write a review. Plus there are hundreds of Mexican joints all over Escondido. But only a few that specializes in making fresh tortillas and adobada tacos. Here's what I loved: ~ Parking / Dining / Service ~ Nothing special about parking, other than it can get packed here with only one row to park along. Otherwise, it's street parking, or just opt for take-out. Dining in seemed clean, as I didn't see a dirty table. Looks well maintained, I'd say. Service was decent, no issues. Fairly easy to manage as you go from station to station to order. Meaning, you order a burrito on one side, speciality tacos and quesadillas in the middle, and adoboda tacos near the entrance. Different from your standard ordering style, but arranged well. ~ Tacos & Burritos ~ What I ordered: - Taco de Adoboda ($3.99) sliced straight from the skewer onto a freshly flattened corn tortillas, mmm mmm mmm!!! Definitely al pastor street worthy in flavor! - Taco de Chorizo ($3.99) aww man, so good! Marinated and seasoned well, but wasn't my favorite of all, because that goes to the... - Lengua Taco ($5.15) and just seeing the tongue getting pulled out of the pot and onto the cutting board was tongue dropping in itself, literally! But the first bite was just soft and beefiness that I enjoyed tasting! - Burrito de Carne Asada ($15.99) was OK. The carne cuts weren't as big or flavorful as I had wanted. Or maybe I was just overwhelmed with how good the tacos were. A solid burrito in size, but I had to keep adding sauce to give it a kick. Their salsa roja and salsa verde were excellent too btw! Overall, I was debating between a 5 or 4-stars, and it pains me to give it a 4, but I do consider this taqueria a solid 4.5 kind of place! The tacos meats and tortillas are legit! If anything, as I'll be honest, I don't like paying extra for salsa, but I get it in these rough times. I mean, there's good reasons as to why these guys have been open for so long all these years. And that, I'll give them credit for. Highly recommended to try, as I shall be back again soon some day!

Did the drive through order. The menu looked a bit confusing but ended up getting the asada California. It had so much steak in it! It was good but I would rate it 3/5 it just wasn't salty enough for my tasting.

7.99 for the quesadilla in the picture is crazy. That's 7.99 each by the way. I posted two pictures so you can see how small they are. This is a complete rip off. Secondly the carne asada was so bland and poor quality in meat. Lastly the Adobado had no flavor and my trepas was burnt again. I waited years to come back here and sure enough the quality of food was still a problem. I spent $90 for my wife and I and 14 year old son, were completely disappointed especially driving all the way from Vista.

TJ Tacos My family and I absolutely love this place! We don't live nearby, but whenever we're in the area, we always make a point to stop by. Our favorite tacos are the pork, beef, tripe, and beef tongue. The meat is always fresh, hot, juicy, and full of flavor--never dry. Every time we come here, the tacos taste amazing and consistent. The restaurant is clean, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. They work with such a cheerful attitude that it makes the whole place feel comfortable and relaxed. Even though we're not very good at speaking Spanish, we never feel awkward or nervous ordering here. The only small downside is the parking lot. It's a bit small, so it can be hard to find a parking when it gets busy. Overall, it's definitely one of our favorite taco spots, and we're always happy to come back whenever we're nearby. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5

This place reminds me of Tacos El Gordo but the lines are significantly shorter! The meat selections are essentially the same and the tacos here are DELICIOUS! The ambiance is very lively and the place is busy. But since it is a smaller establishment, I can actually talk to and hear the workers when I'm placing my order lol Their asada and al pastor are wonderful. Perfectly cooked. Tender, lightly salted and savory. We also got their tripa and lengua. Both are wonderful as well if you're into those types of protein options. Another thing that I liked about this place is their drink options. Just like Tacos El Gordo, they also have a fountain for Bang! You can get Orange Bang here!! My meal was complete when I saw it lol Highly highly recommend this place!! I'm planning on coming back the next time I'm visiting Escondido.

Kept hearing good reviews about this place and finally got to try them out. I got the asada and al pastor tacos. The tacos were good sized portions and the salsas were yummy. The green one had a good spice to it. My favorite was the green creamy sauce. It is extra for the sauce. Will definitely come back to try more tacos. The service was great and didn't have to wait in a long line.

It's been a few years since our last visit and the adobada meat is still packed with flavor and tenderness! A must visit when we're in the area :)

Adobado, carne, tripas, and cabeza tacos.

First time here- the food was good. The all time favorite from what were ordered were the adobado and cabeza tacos. There is parking but limited. Downside is that sides are extra sides (had to pay for avacado).

Carne asada fries. $17.99
Jane R.

Maybe it's just us, but we found the beef a bit bland. I say this because there's so much positive reviews and the place had people in and out all the time. The drive through was constantly busy, but for some reason, it was a let down for us. We got the asada fries and while the actual fries were good, the beef seemed meh. We've had more flavorful marinated meat from some deli than this. But again, maybe it's just us, because this place clearly has a lot of fans. I do appreciate how fast and straightforward the whole process is. Interesting how others comment on the pricey tacos, cuz they're actually pretty cheap compared to San Diego city tacos. Perspective. Overall, I'm glad I got to try the spot for myself.

Asada Taco

Hands down the best tacos I ever had in San Diego! Really authentic Mexican food and options that you don't find in other places, like beef head and tongue. My favorite is the Al Pastor tacos. You can choose corn or flour tortillas for the tacos and they come with condiments, such as salsas and radish. There is drive through as well which is great for when the place gets crowded. Limited parking is available on the side and the back of the restaurant. The interior is nothing fancy but trust me you want to try this place!

Asada California Burrito
Erick M.

Good burrito but PRICEY Food -California burrito ($16.99) - It tasted good 4/5, the ingredients were good quality but paying $18.47 (with tax included) for a burrito that's a 4/5 is pricey in IMO. -The tacos did look really good, I would come back to give them a try. Their tortillas are handmade. Service: no issues everyone was friendly. You order at the stations then pay at the cashier. They have a drive thru which is convenient! Ambiance: Gives off proper Mexico food vibes. Overall good spot but beware of the price point

CABEZA (braised beef-head) taco -- can you ever get enough head?
Scott T.

adobada, cabeza, tripa, buche, carne asada, lengua, suadero, and whatever else your little heart desires in a street-style taco or burrito as long as it's beef or pork. TJ TACOS in Escondido sets a high bar. the place is always busy. lines are organized in cues for maximum efficiency. these guys turn out huge volumes of food in a hurry. little disorienting at first, but if all else fails, follow directions. for this visit I had CABEZA (slow-braised and shredded cow face) and ADOBADA (grilled pork that's been marinaded in a red-chili adobo) tacos and both were perfect. open till 11 pm, Sunday through Thursday and till 12 am on weekends for when you get late-night cravings. great excuse to make every day of the week Taco Tuesday.

Zack W.

Each counter serves different things. Ordered the Asada California burrito. The most meat I've ever seen in a burrito. Good flavor, everything was hot and fresh. Large size burrito too. The Adobada taco had excellent flavor. Good sized taco too. Inside was clean, workers were friendly, got my food fairly quickly. Seemed a little pricey. $17 for a burrito and $4 for a taco.

Good tacos and good service. I like the idea of a drive through but going inside is much better. Very nice menu and great location.

Hello! First of all, thank you very much for your interest. At this time, this service is not…

Have you increased your production rate/tried to reduce queue time? This is my first time trying your place, the traffic hazard of stopped traffic off busy E Valley Pkwy piqued my curiosity and everybody just said your tacos are awesome lol. Thx!

If you have not tried ordering through the Yelp app, it's simple and easy. You can park and go to the door for the pick up. I also found the time Yelp gives is usually off in that my order is always ready earlier than stated. YAY!

What is a Pastor Taco?

Al Pastor is a Mexican pork. Often cooked on a rotating spit with pineapple.

Is it card only no cash?

They take both card and cash.

Sounds like they make homemade corn tortillas, so no gluten, but ask just in case!

Is there a drive thru?

Yes, there is!

Do they have all you can eat taco tuesday?

Nah

Does TJ Tacos cater? Do they have catering trays?

It is not posted on their menu or advertised anywhere inside restaurant. I'd call and ask. Good luck.

Even so, Alexis listened to my situation, trusted my word, and honored the remake. She handled everything professionally and made the situation right. The first time I visited a few weeks ago, I had a really positive experience. The location was a little hard for me to find, but once I got there, it seemed worth it. I walked in craving a breakfast burrito and was helped by a very nice, slender gentleman at the counter. I asked for a ham, bacon, and sausage breakfast burrito and also requested that it be cut in half. He was friendly, said no problem, and within minutes I had exactly what I ordered. That burrito was delicious. The salsa station was stocked and convenient with self-serve cups readily available, and the atmosphere was nice. The people around me were friendly, and one gentleman even mentioned this was the place that used to be near Peterson's Donuts. Overall, it was a great first impression and I left happy, already planning to come back. Fast forward to today, Saturday, April 25, 2026 around 10:30 AM, and unfortunately, my second experience was the complete opposite. This time there was a young woman working the register, and from the moment I approached, she didn't seem very welcoming. I told her I wanted to order a breakfast burrito but wasn't sure what kind I wanted today. She told me the only options were bacon, egg, cheese and tater tots, or egg and cheese. I politely asked if I could add ham and sausage and pay extra, since that's what I had ordered before. She immediately responded that they "didn't have that type of breakfast burrito." That response confused me because I had literally ordered one there before. I wasn't going to argue, especially because her tone and attitude made me feel like I was bothering her just by asking questions. I then asked if the burrito could be cut in half and never really got a clear response. I also noticed the salsa station no longer had the little self-serve cups available, so I had to ask for those too. The same cashier asked how many I needed, and I said two. A few minutes later, another woman called my name and handed me the burrito. I sat down and realized it wasn't cut in half like I requested. At that point, I had to go back up and ask for a plastic knife and fork just to cut it myself. Which was not a problem or issue for me. I ate half of the burrito, but honestly, it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. The taste was underwhelming, and by the time I left I was just so disappointed. I ended up throwing the other half away after I left. Consistency matters, especially when the first experience set the bar high. The food was great the first time, but the service and quality were lacking the second time around. My honest opinion: if someone is having a bad day, they probably shouldn't be the first face customers interact with at the register. I may update this review depending on how management responds, because I know this place can do better based on my first visit.

I've been to Mi Guadalajara in Escondido a handful of times now, and my wife and I keep coming back…read morebecause, overall, it's a solid spot for Mexican food in North County San Diego. It's got that classic, welcoming family-owned vibe that's been around since the '80s, and we always leave feeling satisfied--even if it's not always perfect. The interior is pretty cool and distinctive. Think big, spacious dining areas with vibrant traditional Mexican decor: colorful murals on the walls (some really elaborate ones that give it almost a resort-like feel), solid wood furniture, chandeliers, and that open, multi-level layout that makes it feel grand without being stuffy. It's large enough that even on busier nights, you rarely have to wait long for a table, which is a huge plus. Service is one of the consistent highlights here. The staff is friendly, quick, and chatty in the best way--they remember little things, keep the chips and salsa flowing, and make you feel like regulars even if it's just your third or fourth visit. No complaints there; it's fast, accurate, and genuinely warm. Now, the food: it's always fresh, which I really appreciate--no skimping on ingredients or anything that tastes like it's been sitting around. Portions are generous, and when it's on point, it's really good. We've had some great meals here that make us think, "Yep, this is why we come back." But I'll be honest--there's some inconsistency from visit to visit. The flavors don't always match what I remember from previous times. Sometimes the seasoning is spot-on and bold; other times, it's dialed way back. Our most recent dinner was a perfect example of that. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, hoping for that rich, comforting flavor, but they came out pretty mild--almost under-seasoned, lacking that punch I was craving. The rice on the side was a bit tough and dry, like it had overcooked or sat too long, which made it harder to enjoy. It wasn't terrible by any means (nothing was inedible, and the rest of the plate was fine), but it just didn't hit the high notes we've gotten before. It's frustrating because we've had better enchiladas and fluffier rice here on other trips. That said, the inconsistency hasn't been bad enough to turn us off. The highs are high enough, the atmosphere is enjoyable, the service is great, and it's a reliable option when we're in the mood for Mexican without venturing too far. My wife and I still enjoy it and will definitely be back--we're hoping the next visit brings back that memorable flavor we love. If you're in the Escondido area and want a big, festive Mexican spot with friendly people and usually tasty food, give Mi Guadalajara a try. It's worth checking out!

Gave this place a second try during happy hour and didn't change my mind…read more Service was decent. We were at the bar area this time. Again liked the decor, they need to curate it down a little. Music and better lighting would elevate it so much. We got two different menus and got confused but apparently one was the old menu. Drinks... 6/10. My mangoneada needed more mango and tajin, it needed more flavor. My friends thought their drinks were also just ok as well. One had to ask for more hot sauce for her michelada, they only had tapatío. She said it was bland. Foods also just ok. The birria tacos were the best part, def would order again. Tortilla didn't split, good portion and the consomé was good. Cheese dip tasted like velveta. Nachos with beef were decent. Fried ice cream was not good. I've had this dish many times and it was stale and didn't taste fried. Idk if the cereal was stale or the ice cream was so frozen but it was not good. The salsa that comes with the chips is more of a tomato based and we weren't offered other salsas. We asked and got two others but the flavor was just not there. Paid about 60 bucks with tip for two happy hour items, a mangonada and dessert. Again, if the flavors were there, it would be worth and I would be back. It's such a unique space, easy to get to, plenty of parking, beautiful art in the center portion, they are so close to getting it right.
