Yall gave me an overcooked ripped open burrito. lol first and last time coming here. Also the driest most plain burrito I've ever had. Holy smokes I expected so much more based off reviews. Very very disappointed.

This is supposed to be a hard shell taco but it was an oily soggy soft taco. Not good

Some of the best Mexican food I've eaten in Escondido. The restaurant is so cute on the inside and the service is spot on!! Ordered, sat down, and was eating within 10 minutes. Love this place. Always a happy customer.

Tiny Adobada Burrito, notice the right side is mostly tortillas too.

I have been coming here for years and often too, but I went back recently and ordered an adobada Burrito. The salsa bar was back which means I could get enough salsa for our food again. They also had an improved roasted red sauce. But when I got home, I found my burrito was tiny. It tasted good but it's like 1/2 the size they used to be, probably even smaller than that. In fact I just finished it and I'm looking for some additional food to eat. I'm not sure if I will try them again, or just start looking for another local place that is decent, there are many in the area, this was just my prefered one in the local area. I know places have raised prices significantly over the last few years, but now the burritos are 1/2 size as well as more expensive. edit: I had to lower my review after getting sick from eating this burrito. I don't think I will go back at this point. My speculation is that they left the meat out or it was not stored at appropriate temperatures, They probably didn't have quite enough to make the full burrito but gave me whatever was left. Too risky to go back again as I have had non fresh meat from them previously, but it wasn't often. I didn't get sick previously though, I could just tell a difference between the meat in my burrito and my wifes carneasada fries and we both agreed that one of them was not freshly cooked like the other. Anyways, It took weeks for my stomach to recover.

Fast and excellent customer service! The food is always great, with generous portions at excellent prices. I've visited this place a few times now, and it never disappoints.

I have eaten in and taken out here before, but it's been a while so I had a refresher visit. Food: I had a grilled chicken taco and shrimp taco. They were both good and good size. $12 for both, I wish they had grilled fish. Food was not too salty, which was a plus for me. Tasted fresh. There were different kinds of salsas and sauces available to flavor the food the way you want. Chips and red salsa if you eat in. The wait for the food was reasonable. Ambiance: Super clean everywhere!! The dining room was good size, well-decorated and welcoming with real flowers on each table! The dining room was a bit dark and "cavy", but the bright decor was bringing it up. The tables were separate enough. A large screen TV was silently playing sports. I could feel the pride of ownership in how they kept this place clean. They use real utensils and plates for eating in. No plastic forks and plates here. It definitely made me feel that this place was more than a takeout joint. Service: The young lady at the counter was nice and friendly. A couple of ladies came around in the dining room, and asked if everything was fine. Very nice touch! This is like a real restaurant for a takeout price! This is a great neighborhood place. I'll be back for sure!

Stayed overnight at Harrah's in Funner, CA and was heading home. On our way home we wanted some authentic Mexican food and decided to try "That Mexican Place" and we were not disappointed. Upon walking into the store, we could smell how fresh it was and the food was just as delicious as it smelled. We ordered the: -Sausage, Egg and Cheese breakfast burrito ($8.65) - really good! Lots of cheese, sausage and egg in good proportions. -Carnitas Burrito ($10.75) - wish there'd been some beans or rice in it, it was literally a ton of carnitas with pico and guac but nevertheless, it tasted delicious! -Two Chicken Enchiladas ($12.45) - not bad, chicken was a little dry but the beans and rice sides were great. Had a family-owned feel with friendly vibes. Will be back if I ever return to Harrah's!

El Bombero minus the carne. Added guacamole.
Christine T.

Came in to try El Bombero but without the carne asada. Also added guacamole. Basically, it's like a California burrito but with shrimp. It was overall pretty good. The only reason why it lost a star was because the fries felt a little stale. I'm not sure if that was due to the 10-minute ride home or if it was because it was stale. The red hot sauce was decent. Just wish it was a tad bit more spicy. I'll have to try other menu items. Will be back! Will update my review then.

El bombero burrito - HUGE!!!
Mercedes M.

My boyfriend and I stopped here Christmas Eve for a quick bite before heading to my family's house in San Marcos. I haven't had the best luck with burritos in SM, so I was open to trying something else after grabbing coffee nearby. I got the El Bombero burrito, my boyfriend got the surf & turf. They were both phenomenal - tortilla was stretchy but not too doughy or dry (perfect!!), the portion was HUGE, the carne asada was moist and the shrimp was good. We got to go, but decided to eat inside, super cute and plenty of seating. I liked his better, only because the seasoning on their beans is phenomenal, but if you're in the mood for a CA style burrito, obvs you go for the bombero. Such a hidden gem - it came out super quick - we'll be back!! Best burrito in north county.

They serve a fair variety of sandwiches and other little items to buy such as coffee and cookies. The location is small with about a total of 5 seating areas including both inside, and out. For service they're all very friendly since it's primarily the family owners who serve you. You go up to the front and place your order and they'll bring the food you order to your table, they do close early since this is a breakfast spot first and foremost, so expect to arrive early if you want to eat here. I usually order The Works in a half since a full size sandwich is well over $20, excluding any additions or substitutions you may make. The sandwich does taste really good, but it does come at a steep price. They've grown in popularity over the years, which may have influenced their pricing (by a lot) which in my opinion does outweigh it's value. While I do enjoy my infrequent visits, I can say this location is more of an occasional treat, as opposed to a constant meal to be had often.

Definitely order the biscuits and gravy if you like them, it's delicious here. Five stars on the scale of American diners.

I'm a huge Wicked fan and was excited to see this event advertised on Yelp. This restaurant was the only one in North County I can think of that acknowledged the movie when it was about to be in theaters. First of all, it was easy to get to based on my GPS but kind of challenging to find their parking lot. I ended up finding a 2-hour parking on N. City Drive which was in walking distance. All I was thinking of while walking up to Draft Republic is that this place is massive. Inside, the hostesses verbally instructed me where to go...came across bowling...arcade games...sports on tvs on my way. Behind the curtains, I entered the room in awe. Draft Republic really went ALL OUT!! The Wicked witchy vibe was sooo magical. I loved the beautifuuul Elphaba/Glinda decorations, cleverly creative themed menu option names, actual movie playing in the background, and the take-home momentos. Nick and staff were super wickedly friendly too. The Wicked Bites, Grimmerie Shots and Wickedest Cocktails were all FANTASTIC!!! I definitely tasted Draft Republic's wickedness. I appreciated everything about this experience....well well done. What a WICKED TIME! I hope there are more speakeasy pop-ups in the near future :-)

Because Draft Republic is a rough place to quantify. The food is pretty good; if going off that alone, this place would easily be four stars in my eyes. But, it's not ... Draft Republic is trying to be a bit closer to like a mini Dave & Buster's (a place I have come pretty close to loathing). With an arcade, a bowling alley, a golfing simulator, a full bar, pretty extensive menu, good music, and a fantastic staff, they really have a lot going for them with a little something to make anyone happy. My own issue deals solely with the cost. Came here with my son, all we did was eat two entrees and an appetizer between us, and did nothing else. With drink and after tax and tip, the cost was well over $90. No games, no play, just burgers (plus fries and poke tacos) for two, costs as much as many Californian's net after a full day of work. When you're used to feeding the whole family for about half as much when going out (or a little more when eating sushi), that price was a bit rough. Still, the food is very good. My son and I each ate The Draft Republic Burger. It was perfectly cooked, juicy, very flavorful, and the toppings were high quality. The fries were crisp and salted well. And the side salad wasn't too bad. Both of us ate our entrees and gave it high marks. We had started with the Tres Poke Tacos, where the Tuna was very tasty, steeped in a flavorful marinade, and felt nice and fresh. Definitely a good starter. And the restaurant itself is gorgeous. A lot of space, beautifully furnished, kind of industrial meets art deco with some new age greenery architecture thrown in. I like it a lot. But, as an aging Gen-X'er, who used to go to arcades back in the day, and hates what new arcades have become, the amenities are under appreciated by me. All of that pads the price tag a bit out of what I am willing to pay just for dinner. Which may not be fair to Draft Republic, but that's where it left me.
