When I found out about California Fish Grill two years ago, I was in foodie heaven. I was like... where you been all my life?! This restaurant chain meets all the needs of a seafood lover who is on-the-go...plus it's 100% sustainable. The service is always quick and food always delicious...thanks to the stellar staff. My overall experience was very positive the few times I've been there - the vibe just perrrfect. Definitely a MUST-EAT for the Yelp Community!!

I was excited they finally opened a California fish grill. I enjoy this place, healthy food and you can choose what sides to get. When I'm in a low carb diet this is the place I enjoy to come eat. I'm glad we have one in North San Diego.

EVERYTHING PROTEIN BOWL minus the sauces and tomatoes.

They have a special right now, if you get their app you get a free protein bowl with a purchase of a drink. The entire bowl weighed in at 1.5 lbs of which 1/3 of a lb was the protein. White Fish, shrimp, salmon and chicken. The shrimp and salmon were covered with a super salty seasoning, the chicken was ok and the white fish was flaky and delicious. If Igo again, I'd stick to the white fish. The beans and rice were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. It's a good deal if you use the app.

It's pretty much the best fish you can get without giving up an organ $$$. They really know how to make it fun with all kinds of seafood choices, sauces/glazes, and high end sides. I was thoroughly impressed with the high quality food. Man, it was a revelation. It's in our monthly list of to do's in our household! Easy parking Fast service Beer only Reasonably priced Clean

I love CA fish grill! They be serving up some affordable fish dishes. Originally came here due to a Yelp event and been coming back ever since. I've tried their slightly seared ahi tuna, it's delicious and seared right. I've had their grilled seabass with miso. It was cook to perfection, it was still juicy! Not dry at all. They give you 2 thin filets. It's so good. That at a fancy restaurant would have cost $50 ish and been overcooked. My husbands battered fish burger was delicious too. They fried it so right. Their fried seafood platter is amazing too. Order at the front and find a seat. Plenty of parking and seating.

This location in particular, we always have a great experience. Super pleasant staff, very purposeful, consistent excellent service.

Lunch here was a really great fast casual lunch option for a Sunday. We ordered at a kiosk with touch screen and took our seat in the clean and comfortable dining room. We originally ordered Mac and cheese for my child, but they came out and let us know they were out and offered to sub in chicken tenders instead. All of the food came out really hot and so fresh. The shrimp bowl was delicious with fresh veggies and perfectly cooked rice. The chicken Caesar wrap came with hot chicken and was a perfect portion. The fries here were really good as well! My only "complaint" is that they have Pepsi products but not Coke - but water is better for me anyway!

I am from Northern California but I have family down south and my Mom lives in Escondido. Her, myself and my 3 year old daughter went and it was very tasty! The restaurant itself was clean, the person who rung us up was knowledgeable and answered a couple questions that my mom and I had about the meals. I would say that the meals took a little while to come out but we were catching up so it didn't matter. The portion size is very nice and there was LOTS OF SALMON in each of our bowls. It has lots of flavor, maybe a bit too much rice for my liking personally but overall very yummy!

After going here for a Yelp event, I went back a few days later to support the business. This location is in Escondido, I have not been to other locations. I stopped in for lunch a little after they opened at 11 am. I was there recently and the owner Mario remembered me and greeted me promptly as soon as I walked in. They welcome everyone who enters. The menu is large, and there are plenty of options ranging from plates with 2 sides, to sandwiches, to classics, to poke bowls, etc. They also have a few dessert items like brownies and Rice Krispy treats. You can order on a giant iPad like device or you can talk to someone who can take your order, your choice. For the plates section of the menu, there are plenty of options including fish like mahi mahi, ahi tuna, salmon, shrimp, etc. This time I decided to go with the mahi mahi, garlic butter, french fries, and tomatoes with feta. The plate portions are a good size and seem to be a good value. The food is also pretty good and tasty. I like that you get to choose 2 sides, but there are so many good sides to choose from. I chose the fries again, but I like my french fries more crispy than they serve them here, but they are still very good french fries. They have a serve yourself soda machine with stubborn soda and flavors like black cherry, but they also have some Pepsi / lemonade products if I remember correctly.

Their asada is super juicy with bits of fat and cartilage. Has a nice charcoal taste. The adobada is nicely seasoned and tender with bits of fat. Cabeza was like a super tender and juicy pulled meat. Tripas was super crispy and their quesadillas are super creamy and slightly salty. I've asked before to get tripas and quesadillas more seared and it made a huge difference! They have good red and green salsa. Spicy but not super hot.

I'm giving this place 3 stars for now because my first experience was genuinely great, but my…read moresecond visit was disappointing enough that I almost rated it 2 stars. The first time I visited a few weeks ago, I had a really positive experience. The location was a little hard for me to find, but once I got there, it seemed worth it. I walked in craving a breakfast burrito and was helped by a very nice, slender gentleman at the counter. I asked for a ham, bacon, and sausage breakfast burrito and also requested that it be cut in half. He was friendly, said no problem, and within minutes I had exactly what I ordered. That burrito was delicious. The salsa station was stocked and convenient with self-serve cups readily available, and the atmosphere was nice. The people around me were friendly, and one gentleman even mentioned this was the place that used to be near Peterson's Donuts. Overall, it was a great first impression and I left happy, already planning to come back. Fast forward to today, Saturday, April 25, 2026 around 10:30 AM, and unfortunately, my second experience was the complete opposite. This time there was a young woman working the register, and from the moment I approached, she didn't seem very welcoming. I told her I wanted to order a breakfast burrito but wasn't sure what kind I wanted today. She told me the only options were bacon, egg, cheese and tater tots, or egg and cheese. I politely asked if I could add ham and sausage and pay extra, since that's what I had ordered before. She immediately responded that they "didn't have that type of breakfast burrito." That response confused me because I had literally ordered one there before. I wasn't going to argue, especially because her tone and attitude made me feel like I was bothering her just by asking questions. I then asked if the burrito could be cut in half and never really got a clear response. I also noticed the salsa station no longer had the little self-serve cups available, so I had to ask for those too. The same cashier asked how many I needed, and I said two. A few minutes later, another woman called my name and handed me the burrito. I sat down and realized it wasn't cut in half like I requested. At that point, I had to go back up and ask for a plastic knife and fork just to cut it myself. Which was not a problem or issue for me. I ate half of the burrito, but honestly, it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. The taste was underwhelming, and by the time I left I was just so disappointed. I ended up throwing the other half away after I left. Consistency matters, especially when the first experience set the bar high. The food was great the first time, but the service and quality were lacking the second time around. My honest opinion: if someone is having a bad day, they probably shouldn't be the first face customers interact with at the register. I may update this review depending on how management responds, because I know this place can do better based on my first visit.

It was on a Friday night, the place was packed, and difficult to find a spot to park. The line to order was almost out the door, but still fast to get through, and we were quick to choose what we wanted before struggling to find a spot to sit and talk. After about 15 minutes, our order was ready and we got to enjoy our food. We started with the Carne Asada Nachos, Refried Beans on the side. The meat was flavorful, very tender, and plentiful atop a pile of crisp and fresh tortilla chips. The cheese was nice and salty and the sour cream was warm to the point where it drizzled over it all nicely. All in all, it was a very tasty start to the night. The only two issues I had with it were that the guac was a bit overly pureed, making it kind of runny. And the refried beans had a very sour flavor, making me think that they were over the edge of going spoiled. I had to thank my wife's aversion to eating beans, helping us avoid having them spooned on top, which would have ruined this course. I also had an Al Pastor Taco, Craft Coast Style. The whole it was crisped up well, the cheese forming a great crust on the inside of the taco. The meat was sweetly marinaded, flavorful and delicious. On top of it was a good amount of beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, making for a good sized taco without any overflowing. It was pretty damn tasty. So, our first trip out here had more highs than lows, resulting in a very positive initial dinner. I'm sure those beans were just a one-off, at least I hope they were. And there's still hope that the guac may have had too much lime or had been overly mixed this time around. A second trip is definitely in the cards, with more of the family to expand what comes to the table.
