The prices are not so high, service was friendly and spot on. No issues but I also have only gone once. The place looks spacious to have families eat here and the decor is very typical Mexican culture- it's nice. I was craving a torta so I ordered the Cubana- which was pretty big. I could only eat half of it. I ordered the combo, so it came with fries and a drink. The fries were show strong kind- not amazing but edible. The torta was pretty yummy. It came with chorizo, jalapeños, cheese, ham, hot dogs or "weenies" (haha, IYKYK), milanesa and maybe beans? Idk- it was packed! Pretty tasty and spicy, just how I like it. I did see they have huaraches on the menu and will need to come back to try that and the sopes. Again- prices on the menu looked good. I'll be back to try more... Aaaaand 9 days later, I went back. I ordered a carnitas sope and damn, it was just like my momma use to make. Perfectly shaped and fried and super delicious!! What a shame on this business that after I post a review on the quality of their food, they go after posting on my business on yelp just for hate. When they have never even been a customer. Then what it looks like they stalk me on my yelp account and see I have a business so they send someone to post a bad review just for hate? Really? Instead of sending their family to give my business a bad review, they should concentrate on the quality of food they offer. If there is more than one person giving you a bad review based on the quality of food then I think the owners should do something about the constructive criticism. But no they do the opposite, they go hunt down their reviews and find out who they are related to and ask about how they are doing? Seriously!? When I offered a refund on their "supposed purchase" and hey deny, and we clearly take notice who are or regular customers. Yet they mention we are new to the business, but today I confirmed who gave us that bad review just because. What a shame on the owner of this location. I don't even know how the hell they call this green Enchiladas, I'm always having hope to find a Mexican restaurant with the old school grandma green salsa that is not spicy but not sour, any old school Mexican foodie lover knows that making this salsas from scratch has no rocket science. But anyways, back to this plate, the cheese wasn't even melted (and it did not melt at all once it was served (typically the cheese sopposed to melt when wrapped with the hot tortillas. The rice way to dry and the beans to plain, as far as the iceberg lettuce just another filler to this plate so they call it a "big plate" for your money. But it was only $7 for this plate what could I possibly expect from this average taco places. My friend ask for the bistec ranchero, lol the salsa no taste whatsoever! And the fillers that come with it as I mention are the same. I swear I wish I didn't have to express myself like this from this so call Mexican restaurants but it's a shame this is what they call Mexican food. I truly defend authenticity and I'm sorry but this is not! I ended up kinda eating the enchiladas and left everything else, and so did my friend. Oh and quick remark on the avocado not ripe! This truly is the epitome of a "hole in the wall", they have Authentic Mexican food, I imagine that the owners are from Morelos, a state neighboring Puebla & Mexico City. Anyways the only thing I have tried from here are the Alambres, which are similar to fajitas only that they add cheese and some other stuff on there. For the amount of food you get, it is ridiculously affordable...an alambre won't even set you back $10 and it definitely satisfies my carnivore cravings. They offer about 5 or 6 different types of alambres as well as your mainstream taco shop fare such as tacos, burritos, carne asada fries, etc. The cashier girl is nice (& cute) hehe, the other people there (which I imagine are the owners are nice too), very humble patrons. Definitely one of those underrated Mexican joints only people living in the surrounding areas would know about. As a friendly suggestion, I would not go here with a party of four or more as it has a quite small seating area. I do recommend this place to anyone in the area who wants some good authentic (non-Gringo-tized) Mexican food. P.S. Food can be a little a greasy, but I'm sure you know what you're getting into, because let's face it, Healthy Mexican food is an oxymoron us San Diegans are all too familiar with, and if it is healthy...then it probably isn't real Mexican food. This is my favorite place to get a Torta Cubana from, it comes with a variety of meats, beans, avocado and queso fresco, delicious! My second favorite thing on their menu is their Alambres- a skillet with a variety of grilled meats, cheese and vegetables- and it is served with a number of tortillas on the side, it easily serves two. The chilaquiles come with your choice of red or green sauce; the green sauce can be somewhat bitter due to the green tomatillos but overall good and it comes with the option of eggs or meat. I've never had an issue with them taking a long time to prepare the food and the ladies who have served me have always been friendly. read more

Okay, so today, as I was waiting for Drug Co pharmacy to fill my antibiotics prescription (an awesome compounding pharmacy, BTW) we went next door in search of something along the lines of chicken soup to soothe my strep throat. What we got were amazing, steaming bowls of chicken broth chock full of fresh thick cut carrots, Mexican squash, potatoes, corn on the cob, and 2-3 chicken legs. On the side were corn tortillas and a plate of cilantro, onions, limes and jalapenos. This was the best chicken soup I have ever had!!!!!! It was almost worth getting sick just to be able to experience that soup. Seriously. It was that good. And the folks that work there are super cool too! read more

Go for the tacos ... Stay for the fajitas. This restaurant is subtitled Casa de los Alambres. The Traditional Fajita House! So I'd give 5 stars if the bathroom door wasn't right in the dining room. You've heard of a "hold in the wall" restaurant... well this is it. Ah, but they make tacos very similar to dear old Mom's, from back in the day when we didn't worry so much about fat grams and heart attacks. This was some of the tastiest and most authentic, purist Mexican food, I've run across in years. My guy & I took Dad for Dad's Day (his request), not expecting too much. We traveled about 50 miles each way, and it was well worth it, and this is why: Their tacos are deep fried (hard tortilla) with chunks of shredded beef, with lettuce, tomato, cheese filing. I had one, and a tasty chicken enchilada. Dad had a taco also (the purpose of the trip), and shared with his friend one of their signature dishes that smelled fabulous... it was platter of mixed beef, chicken, grilled onions, peppers and small tortillas, eaten fajita style... all was exceptional, and right up one's alley if its real Mexican food you are looking for. We tried their carne asada burritos two weeks ago and they were excellent! So we decided to make this place our primary source for our carne asada burritos. We ordered three burritos yesterday and REGRETFULLY the meat had so much chewy large chunks that was pretty much hard to eat. I find it hard to imagine how a business owner can afford to risk using crappy meat to turn away their new customers. This little dive is located in a tiny drive-right-by-because-you-don't-even-know-it's-there strip of stores. I only found it because I had an Entertainment coupon and wanted to try somewhere new. San Diego in general is crawling with Mexican food restaurants; there are many great ones but they generally serve the same dishes with their own small variations. So I was happily surprised that Taqueria Morelos was not only authentically tasty, but also offered some unique dishes that I've never had before, and are probably only available in larger restaurants. You order at the counter, pay, then either take out or sit down and they will bring your meal to you. Since I was really hungry I ordered one of their Alambre dishes and a shrimp taco. The Alambre came served up in a little skillet with little baby corn tortillas on top and was SO delicious but, CAUTION------it was prepared over the top on the spicy hot scale--I mean my mouth was glowing, so it was definitely not for the faint of palate. Next time I'll ask them to tone it down a bit. The delectable shrimp taco was so big it really qualified to be a burrito. No doubt I over-ordered but had plenty for lunch the next day. Not much English is spoken here, either by the staff or the customers. I speak some Spanish, but only enough to confuse those who are fluent. The older woman at the counter was very nice and in spite of the language barrier, was very gracious. Nods and smiles and hand gestures got us through the ordering process and the meal. The whole eating area is about the size of my living room at home, only a few tables available. Three kinds of hot sauce are already on the table and they bring two more kinds with the meal. It's not as if you needed to add any more! The napkins are tissue-thin so you build up a pile of them at the table, but that's kind of part of the charm of the place. It's not starched and fancy, waiters aren't hovering over you, and the decor is a little random but I gave it 5 stars because, for home-cooked authentic Mexican food, this IS as good as it gets. read more
