Good spot right in a busy strip mall. Kool ambiance with posters & art on the walls & very spacey not cramped tables & booths. Service was quick and painless with a wide variety of meats & food. The ONE thing that coulda got them higher was: NO avocado or guacamole on any of the tacos! To me that's sacrilegious!!! Tacos have to have at least an avocado slice or guacamole!!! I sampled three of their tacos: Asada, Carnitas, and Pastor. They are mid-sized rather than the street or large size, with house-made tortillas that are fresh, tender, and delicious. Topped with cilantro and onions but no light guacamole cream like many other places. The Asada was my least favorite as it was not well-seasoned, the little cubes were chewy, and there was some gristle. The Pastor was average, and Carnitas the best with very good flavor and some crispy bits. Chips cost extra at $1.50 and they're perfectly light and crispy, but unsalted. Four salsas are available at the bar: medium hot red, mild tomatillo, mild creamy green (not sure of the flavor), and a very hot green (I think tomatillo with serrano or some other pepper). read more

I cannot recommend La Takiza more strongly. They catered my daughter's graduation party a few weeks ago, and my wife's 40th a few years ago. The food was an absolute hit at both events. So many of our guests were asking about their restaurant and were planning to take their families there in the future. The only downside was we setup the backyard as the primary area for the party, but La Takiza was in front, so nobody wanted to leave the front. They also catered my buddy's retirement from the Marines on base with the same great results. The staff is super professional and nice. Setting up the logistics was easy. And the price was right. This is a large taco shop, it's not the fanciest place, the service is just okay. It depends on the crowd and what you order to determine the time to get your food. The menu is not that extensive, but mainly consists of tacos, and there's not many vegetarian options. I decided on the huevos rancheros, since there is breakfast in the morning/early afternoon. This plate was different than what I have experienced somewhere else, just the quality is not as good. The rice and beans are okay, but seem to lack flavor. Bought four Menudo this morning. I opened first container and got a bad odor. I thought it was my senses and proceeded to eat it. The food is good here and we've dinner in before, we ordered Togo for the first time and our order was incorrect. I asked for 2 carnitas sopes no tomato no lettuce, 1 pollo sope no tomato no lettuce and 2 carne asada tacos plain. Ok so I've been here a few times and I've come to enjoy their food. The salsa bar has all you need to make your tacos tasty. They have a huge kitchen with a mix of chairs and booths with different colors which makes you feel like you're in a taco shop in TJ. The decor is authentic too with big signs of Mexican sodas and beers. The food is legit and the service is decent as there isn't really much of a staff working here. I enjoy the adobada as well as the Barbacoa. They offer several types of salsa that are sure to tickle your fancy as well as Tiffany and Nancy lol. If you like soccer, boxing or telenovelas you'll be glad you stopped in here. If you don't like either of these, you'll probably want to take your food to go. I had to try this place a couple times to make sure good it is!! Their small little Street style tacos are the bomb!! I usually order their chicken or carne asada quesadillas which are small and amazing. I haven't explored the menu to much beyond those tacos because they are so good I keep getting them. This Mexican food place is decent size, like double the size of your usual Mexican spot. No drive thru option but they are fast and located right off the freeway @ the 78 and 15 intersection. This last time I went there I noticed another patron enjoying their soup (which looked amazing!!).. Best tacos and Micheladas in North County, hands down! This place is super authentic and very affordable. We usually order a variety of tacos to share. If you like cheese on your tacos like I do, order the quesadilla de maiz and choose your meat. The carne asada and al pastor are my personal favorites, but the chicken and carnitas are also very good. My husband likes to order the nachos with al pastor and a Michelada (or two!). They have a serve yourself bar for the salsas and toppings. The salsas are very good, but on the spicier side. If you like mild, go with the avocado salsa, which is not spicy at all. You can also get onion, cilantro, and hot carrots at the salsa bar. The restaurant itself is fairly large and can accommodate larger groups. You order at the counter, pay, and then they bring your food to you. You can also order to go and I believe they do catering as well. I would eat here every day if I could! La Takiza is our second go-to spot for Mexican food. Let's be honest, there's a lot of spots to choose from, but we go here because 1) it's close to home 2) meat selection is varied and good 3) It's a clean restaurant and 4) Service is quick and friendly. I've tried different tacos and they were all good, but the ones that stood out were barbacoa and tripa. The barbacoa is yummy, tender, marinated beef. The tripa is slightly crispy and rich. If you're weirded out by eating "stranger" animal parts, just don't ask what it is before you try it. Adobada is good here, but I prefer another spot for adobada tacos. The salsa bar is well-stocked, I like the green tomatillo sauce, hubby likes the smoky red one. Hubby has tried a California burrito and was disappointed because the fries weren't cooked thoroughly, but we recently tried a regular barbacoa burrito and it was yummy! Lately, we've been enjoying the meat plate. It comes with your choice of meat, warm tortillas (they make their own!) with a side of rice and beans. Came here at 9:10 pm with my amigas excited for a michelada since online it told me it closes at 10 pm, but when I showed up it was closed!!! I have been here twice now and am pretty impressed. I've tried about every type of taco they make, two of which I've never had before. This is the place for buche tacos. Done perfectly. They also serve a wonderful quesadilla. Beer and bottled sodas are offered at the usual extreme mark-up. Prices are at about $1.85-2.50 for tacos, depending on the variety. They have an above average salsa bar, with some tasty green salsas. Service is prompt, polite and the place is clean. Plenty of seating even during peak hours. read more

So I had a moment to grab something quick waiting for the train back to Oceanside while in Escondido. Figuring the Green, White, and Red wouldn't steer me wrong I got the Quesadilla Grande with, Yum, a Homemade Tortilla, I just love Tortillas. Homemade Salsas for dunking and Horchata. Been here a handful of times and food was always great, have recommended it to people but today... Which lands on a Tuesday was helped by a different lady, young girl. Her attitude was just awful and racist, I wish I could upload a picture of what she served my boyfriend. We asked for tacos and I got regular tacos but form some reason they gave my boyfriend tacos but with big flour tortillas, looked more like burritos, came out cold, no guacamole and the flood was just not fresh, I went up a told the girl my boyfriend had asked for tacos and she said those are tacos but in flour tortillas and I said well don't you have the small tortillas, looks like burritos to me, she said well I already made them I'm not switching it out, she said "you wanted tacos, that's what you got" . Most tacos were alright ... fish, carnitas, chicken, asada. But the pastor was old and dry. Legit place on the inside; muy authentico. The girls were sorta nice ... Ok, not really. You know the attitude. Well, maybe one. Whatever. But for the past four days my estomago has NOT been happy, and it started a couple hours after eating. I'm thinking it was the pastor. But maybe it was the semi-funky salsa bar. What looks like dried alfalfa was actually cilantro. Who knew?? I won't return even though I'd like to try the barbacoa. The positive thing to report is that Walmart's Great Value Ultra Soft bathroom tissue is not only effective but also affordable. We had La Takiza come onsite to do a company lunch. These types of things can be hit or miss - I mean we're feeding ~400 employees and not every vendor can handle that with speed, efficiency and make everyone happy. La Takiza, however, was able to do just that. Due to the nature of our business, employees are required to take their lunches at specific times. Consequently, company wide lunches can cause lines and frustrations. This did not happen when La Takiza came to serve, even with them making tortillas onsite. Additionally, they were extremely affordable and did all of their own clean up/set up, etc. Super impressive! It helps that the food was all tasty (we did four types of meat for a little bit larger than normal street tacos, plus salsas, rice, beans and agua frescas) and people went back for thirds and fourths!
