I checked out Mexico Lindo on South Juniper Street in Escondido recently and was really impressed! First from the outside, such a beautiful tree lined sidewalk and nostalgic façade. There is also parking and an entrance in the rear. This family run establishment could not have been more homey and comforting. Very old-school plastic covered, vibrant Mexican tablecloths, tables dotted with crusty bottles of hot sauce and so forth. The place is really a throwback to a bygone era in dining. Worthwhile visiting just for the vibe. The service itself was outstanding. Warm, friendly, welcoming, and personable. I felt like part of la familia the whole time. The menu here features many of the Mexican restaurant basics like enchiladas, burritos, tacos, seafood, etc. I ordered the enchiladas, one cheese and one chicken. Both come smothered with their delicious, richly flavored mole sauce. Topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and crema. Such an excellent dish despite the enchiladas being rather conservatively filled. Not sure if they have chips & salsa service here but I wasn't offered any. My Modelo Especial was served in a bottle, nicely chilled with a side of lime wedges. I look forward to visiting again soon. Highly recommended if you haven't been. read more

The food here is delicious and service is super friendly. There's plenty of parking and although there were other tables, there was no wait. Entrance is in front and back. The chilaquiles were spicy! But delicious. Chorizo con huevos were also delicious. Kiddos got carne asada fries. We can't wait to come back and try other dishes. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough! It may look like a taco shop but this is definitely sit down authentic Mexican food! The restaurant was cute and clean. What a fantastic, classic little Mexican hole-in-the-wall! It's among the very best in Escondido! I only sampled the Asada and Adobada tacos which were superb, but suspect that everything else would be as good. The Asada was lean, tender but with crispy bits, and super tasty owing to perfect seasoning and probably a proper Asada marinade. The Adobada was also lean, tender and super delicious with an excellent Adobo sauce coating and seasoning. I found them both to be better seasoned than most of the other 15+ taquerias I've visited in Escondido, with just the right amount of heat and deep flavor. While Kennedy's Meat has excellent Asada tacos with a better quality beef cut that's properly marinated and grilled for $6.99, I'd really rather have two from here for $2.90 each. My only disappointment was that I could only get chips and salsa for $3.80, but the obviously house-made mild chunky salsa was excellent. And like almost every other taqueria in the area, there are but two salsas in squeeze bottles: one red and one green - both just okay. They do however have at the tables a range of bottled salsas, including Chipoltle and Habanero. Can't wait to try more on the huge menu! read more

Great Mexican dive restaurant. This place will take you back... to 1960. When we moved to Escondido our neighbors raved about this place and told us not to judge by looks. I am glad we didn't. My wife loves the Tortas. My favorite are their burritos and tacos. My kids are fans of the rolled tacos. This place is divided into two halves. One side has seating at the bar, the other is where the majority of the tables are. The location is located on Jupiter Street; aside from the 7-11 on the corner, this street has a lot of old school charm. There is parking in the back, I love their mural on the back entrance. I saw this restaurant while dining next door. I was immediately drawn to the old school authentic look of the place. We came back a few days later to try it out and were not disappointed. We weren't greeted or seated but felt comfortable enough to grab our own menus and take a seat. The server came over pretty quickly and took our drink orders. They serve bottled beer but no draft. We noted that most of the regulars grabbed their own drinks from the cooler but we weren't sure what the rules were so waited for our server to bring them to us. We asked for recommendations and based on that, I ordered the grilled chicken torta. It was delicious! The beans were super authentic and the bread was to die for. There's a panaderia next door so I guessed they get their bread fresh daily. My husband got the enchiladas but wasn't super crazy about the sauce but he's pretty picky on that. He thought the beans were amazing. We also loved the hot sauce on the tables. The green was especially good and spicy. Overall, I loved the family atmosphere and the vintage building. I found this gem about a year ago. I work right near this little place and for some reason I decided to give it a try one day and get a bacon breakfast burrito. WOW! My favorite breakfast burrito in town that I've found. The bacon was crispy, they add delicious onions and peppers and beans. And the salsa is Fire! If the salsa isn't good I'm always let down, but this place does not disappoint. After eating many breakfast burritos I decided to start trying other menu options. My husband and I were out of town looking for somewhere to have breakfast. We had found a different place to eat but as we were driving we noticed this little restaurant that said "Mexico Lindo" something about it caught our attention and drew us in! Maybe it was because it's a super small and dare I say vintage hole in the wall, usually that's where it's at! The birria was delicious, the broth was super flavorful and the meat melted in your mouth, sure it's a bit greasy (not too much though) but hey! It's birria! My husband had the carnitas wet burrito (with mole sauce) it was so delicious as well! The red salsa is a must!! If you like spicy this is it! We even bought some salsa roja to go. This is a old school taqueria. I used to go to the one on the corner of Holt and Euclid in Ontario as a kid back in the 80s. Growing up that was the place to go to, to get some good tacos. Small place, little hole in the wall that was always packed. You always ran into someone you knew there. Place always had people in it, day and night. Sucked when the place burned down and didnt reopen. Recently visited the this one in Escondido for the first time and tacos did not disappoint. Same taste and salsa still good. Brought back a lot of memories. Brought back some tacos for my POPs and i could see it took him back also. I will say the price of tacos did go up quite a bit, 2.70 a taco is pretty steep which does add up when you go with a few people. Especially since i could handle a good 8 tacos by myself. Especially cause they're so good. Would have liked to have seen price somewhere in the 2.10 to 2.40 range.Still, Will definitely visit again if around the area. Best tacos in Escondildo.... 1) Hole in the wall mexican joints are the best! 2) Yummy, cheap TJ style street tacos. The carnitas taco and tostada where gooood! The fish taco was ok, it was kind of like pieces of fish sticks in a tortilla with the white sauce. Not the best, but not the worst. 3) Go here for the food, not the ambiance.
