I genuinely like this place because it's super close to where I live, literally five minutes away but today was just not it. I had a shift at the hospital, and ordered food on DoorDash around 11:53 AM before I had to clock out so by the time I'm all ready to go and in my car I would just have to pick up my food. But no. I got there and the place looked closed and maybe 2-4 minutes in finally someone helps me. I tell the guy my name and the order and he tells me that he didn't make my order because there was no rice. I asked him how long it would take, and he tells me it would take at least HALF AN HOUR. No call or text so I drove there thinking my food was ready but it wasn't? Instead he gave me options for a salad or fries and I just went with the fries. I'm tired and hungry and I didn't want to make a fuss. We've driven past this place a few times and finally decided to give it a try! I got the double trouble for the kids with no veggies, which was perfect because one wanted beef and the other wanted chicken. We made it a combo with the fries, which were nice and crispy. The first ever shawarma for me! I didn't know what to order, but the young lady at the counter was kind and helpful. The place has a few small tables, but is more like a takeout place. We had a chicken shawarma and a Habibi burger. The food quality was good. The shawarma was a lot of food and I could eat only half of it. My hubby liked his burger. The only thing for me was that I did not care for the cinnamon or nutmeg spices in the chicken shawarma. It was the kind of mediterranean food that used cinnamon for flavor. A little different flavor palette. It might be just their shawarma flavoring, and their kebabs might have different flavoring, which I didn't try this time, so I don't know. Overall the chicken shawarma was OK, a bit heavy with french fries wrapped together inside. I wish it was not cut up and served as one big piece like a burrito since the cut up pieces were falling apart as I ate. We also tried a couple of small walnut baklavas. She answered all our questions and did not rush us into ordering. There was another staff there as well, and he was nice and respectful. To order you have to use a kiosk like at McDonalds, 2 combos and an appetizer costs about $50, the machine automatically asks you to tip (for the service?) I think it was 20 or 25% by default but you can decline it. The person cooking must be able to read the order in real-time because shortly after I clicked the button for hummus I was informed they were out so we had the baba ghanoush. Inside of the place is a few four person tables and some wall art. Honestly slightly nicer than your average strip mall joint but thats a low bar. I got take-out (searching for our replacement for the now closed Pita King) and it came out pretty fast. They included napkins and utensils but were out of forks. I chalked this up to being after the lunch rush. Unfortunately I didn't check the order before I left but was unpleasantly surprised to see they got the orders mixed up and the modifications for one was applied to the other so neither order was "right" but technically I got what I paid for. Called them up to figure out what was what and the person answered was straight forward and said how they made it (incorrectly) very matter of factly. When I asked them to read the reciept to understand my confusion they said "Oh sorry" that was it. It was frustrating, the apology was felt insincere and there was no real acknowledgement so I said well it's too late now and just hung up. They could have made it right and offered a coupon or something and I would have declined it's just the principle. It was my first time going there and it was a lot of little things just didn't sit well and I likely won't go back and I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone. The baba ghanoush was fine, the bread was lackluster, the shawarmas were really good, the salad was good, the fries were "meh", and overall the portions were small for the price. Summary: I just love mom & pop places but it breaks my heart when they don't live up to the expectation. They charge too much and deliver too little in terms of portion size, quality, and attention to detail. If you're looking for mediterranean I highly recommend Ali Babas which is a few miles away maybe instead of this place. read more

Honestly, this place was underwhelming and honestly very disappointing for $50 in the meal was not that great. For starters I had ordered a plate and the chicken and steak with fries and I asked for a salad on the side. They didn't give me the fries and the salad is 90% tomatoes and has these huge hearts from the Romaine in it so I just wasn't really a fan. The service was nice and the sense that they were friendly, but my order was completely wrong, it was cold and it didn't taste good. The meat was tough and dry. We honestly didn't even finish it. It's really disappointing because I don't eat out often and I was willing to try a new Mediterranean place because everywhere else was closed and I'll probably never come back. The food definitely looks better than it tastes. And like I said when you try a new place, you have high hopes and expectations and everything about this place wasn't good. They didn't have ice. The meat had no flavor even the olives tasted like nothing. When normally when the food doesn't taste that great you can make it up by having sauces when I didn't have enough. I have tried Mediterranean food all throughout San Diego. It's one of my favorites and it's very rare for me to eat Mediterranean food and not like the experience, but I was highly disappointed. We shared 2 beef kabobs, 2 skewers of chicken tikka, and chicken kabob. My favorite item was the lemon cilantro beef shawarma wrap( must try ! ). Really disappointing experience at Mr Shawarma in San Marcos. We didn't even end up eating. You're required to order at a kiosk, which is fine, but about five minutes after placing our order we were told one of the main items, the Turkish potato item, wasn't available. Then when we asked for our drink cups, we were told the soda machine was out of order. I asked for a refund just for the sodas at that point. Instead, they refunded the entire order and told us we could reorder. By then we were done. We decided to leave. This is the first time I've ever walked out of a restaurant still hungry. We will be keeping an eye on our credit card statement to make sure everything processes correctly. Overall, a very unprofessional and frustrating experience. read more

First time here, and...wow. I didn't imagine I could be this disappointed with Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. The two young men working there were very friendly, and are the only thing contributing to the two stars. We ordered the fattoush salad and Mr. Shawarma fries with beef. The fattoush salad was bagged salad mix (not romaine as the menu indicated), a ton of chopped white onion, and chopped tomato. No pita chips. No cucumber or radish. No feta cheese or fresh herbs as stated. Absolutely DROWNING in dressing . Wait, let's go back to the lack of pita chips. The word fattoush literally comes from the Arabic word for 'crumbs' or 'to crumble'. As in crumbled toasted or fried PITA pieces. The fries. Abomination is the best word I can come up with. The fries were barely lukewarm, and were extremely undercooked - no crunch, just a soggy mess. The beef was unrecognizable as shawarma. Heck, it was practically unrecognizable as beef. It was mostly burnt, and actually had more crunch than the fries! The seasoning had a weird chemically "from a packet" dusty taste, probably due to the unbelievable overcooking. We had ordered the fries with garlic and tahini sauces, but there was no tahini, and the garlic sauce was the worst imitation of toum that I've ever tasted - I think it may have been Mexican crema with a couple of garlic cloves thrown in.
