Back again because another friend wanted to try this place after going to the farmer's market. SZ is not authentic Japanese. My friend ordered the bulgogi bento box and I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box. Each bento box came with soup and salad. I was able to substitute my meat gyoza for a veggie one. I was also able to swap the california roll for a spicy tuna roll. That was nice, especially since there was no upcharge. Still, my meal was not good. The gyozas should not be deep fried and I think they use Sriracha sauce in the spicy tuna which didn't taste good. Our server was very nice and checked on us regularly. read more

Food was good with very affordable lunch special pricing. Their complimentary house salad and miso soup were so delish compared to other sushi places. My only complaints are the excessive rice to fish ratio and that I got a massive stomach ache after eating here. But if I'm around the area and craving sushi, I'd probably still come again. read more

This place has been a favorite for the last decade. A hole in the wall but don't let that fool you. Their rolls are fresh and flavorful, clearly using freshly caught fish. Even if you're not the biggest sushi fan, their bento boxes and noodle dishes aren't forgotten about on their menu -- they're just as good. Truly one of Livingston county's gems. read more

Love sushi or sushi novice, this is your place! Get your reservation in, because this place is SO GOOD there is even a wait on Sundays! This is the premier sushi restaurant in Livingston county maybe the best in the neighboring counties too! Service is always with a smile. They have become... LESS TASTY! Their service is nice, and the servers come by often to check on you and see how you're doing, but the food is just not as good as it was a couple of years ago. The shrimp doesn't taste as fresh as it used to, and I have several people who agree with me on that! read more

I'm not a fish eater, so I can't rate the sushi for you, other than the veggie sushi I had. Went in for lunch. They have a great lunch menu. I had a bento box that was just under $11. It included an entree, so I had chicken teriyaki, rice, and veggies. It also came with California Roll but they let me sub it with the avocado roll, 2 fried dumplings, and tempura vegetables. A lot of food! The chicken teriyaki and veggies were on point. The seaweed on the avocado roll was a little tough. I also thought the tempura veggies were bland. But overall, I was very pleased with my meal. The restaurant had plenty of staff working. Lots of servers and chefs. It kept things moving! I did get a cherry coke and it was over $3. I mean, I guess I shouldn't complain since my actual lunch was so inexpensive. But $3! Lol. I made sure I drank enough to get refills! Anyone who spends over $8 gets a side salad and miso soup. I highly recommend their ginger dressing. It was very tastey and refreshing. This is our go to place for sushi. They have over 60 different choices on the menu. The service is always good without being overbearing. Get here early as it is a smaller place and fills up fast. We showed up a little after 430 and it was full by the time we left a little after 530. read more

Pretty good sushi for being a landlocked state! Avocado bomb was INCREDIBLE! I am am avocado lover already but the fresh avo plus crab salad with shrimp was so flavorful! The sushi was also good, my favorite of the 5 rolls was the ruby roll. So many flavors mixed well into one. The dragon is always a good classic and fulfills my unagi needs. Definitely the Best Vegetarian Sushi I've ever had! The Veggie Love and Strawberry Blossom are what vegetarian Sushi dreams are made of and I've yet to find anything good even close to comparable. Unexpected gem! I did not expect a superb sushi restaurant in Brighton Michigan. I was nearby and spotted in corner of small strip mall. Exterior of building screamed "don't order anything raw!". Immediately the service and crowd (within 5 min of opening for lunch on a Monday) sang "this is the real deal". The sushi was artfully prepared with serious attention to detail; every ingredient fresh. There were several regulars who were known by name by the servers, and five (yes, 5) sushi chefs very busy. I do not recommend this lightly or through ignorance, as I have spent time in Tokyo. This is by no means Japan, but perhaps the best American-style Japanese restaurant in the Midwest. really? The sushi was really good, but I wasnt too impressed by the service. The best item on the menu is the avocado bomb. It was spectacular and very unique. It was a sliced avocado filled with crab salad and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The sushi was good, but nothing really stood out as jaw dropping. The mixed drinks were my biggest disappointment. For them to be that expensive, they shouldn't be nearly undrinkable. It's the best sushi north if ann arbor, but I'm not so sure it's worth the long wait times they have here. Also, they wont let you out your name on the list without being there, but they dont have a waiting area. You end up just having to stand by the door. It's really awkward. read more

Once you try sushi zen you will NEVER want sushi anywhere else. My aunt has an allergy to Salmon and cannot have it, the waitress was very very kind about it and helpful, she made sure to tell the cooks multiple times she has an allergy, the people here are always kind and I love the environment. EXCELLENT sushi and expansive Japanese menu. I lived in Tokyo for 6 years and they do sushi correctly. Beyond the standard fare, their avocado bomb is exceptional and a spicy delight. I've had a bento here and it is plentiful and offers a solid variety of foods ordered. I once had some Korean fare and found it less than average but I would say that is not the standard for this restaurant. I've had it sit down and take out, and in both instances the serving size was really good making it way worth the price. When I've ordered online, they always pay close attention to the extra instructions I add about adding cucumber and spice so you don't have to worry about that being overlooked. The ambiance of the restaurant is honestly top tier with the real flowers and candles on each table, aesthetic consistency, along with their round turning table perfect for large parties. These are the things I've tried from there: Orange chicken: 7/10 (and only because it's not my favorite dish anywhere, I just tried a bite of someone else's but it's good and has fresh mandarin in it; it quickly became my dad's favorite dish there) Pork Larb: again and again 10/10 I could eat this everyday Sesame chicken: 8/10 (not the best of the best I've tried but still very good) Kick boxing chicken: 10/10 Sticky rice: 10/10 perfect with my Larb Thai tea: 10/10. the best Thai tea I've had in Michigan. Very creamy and great flavor I've had a lot of Asian food in my day but this place is definitely one of the best in what they have.

The chicken wings could have had more Thai flavor, but overall a decent wing with a nice texture. Red curry is among the top in town, according to my partner! The wonton egg noodle soup was good, but I was disappointed in the flavor and quantity of the pork. The wontons were very good, though. Do they have bacon inside? Yum! The mango stick rice was excellent, and enough for four people! Quite the value. We'll try more from the menu here for sure and I'll report back on the rest!
