I don't understand their mediocre review score. We walked in thinking we were underdressed for the room. It had the look and feel of an upscale restaurant, then we noticed people were dressed casually. Our server was top notch. Very professional. Very proficient. No empty glasses and he promptly removed the used dishes. Several visits to our table without overdoing it. The food was exceptionally good. I only knocked off one star because when I went they weren't serving sushi, which in my opinion is a staple food. However, the service was great, atmosphere was great and the food was really good. I've tried take-out at Lei Ting Blue Pearl (formerly Lei Ting) both before and after the new ownership. I didn't have much to say before, but now I can't say enough good things about the food and service here! The menu is a bit more asian-fusion over Chinese, but all aspects were super tasty. A bit pricy, but well-worth for the quality and quantity they serve. They made a mistake about missing an item that we ordered and paid for but was great at fixing the issue. Personal favorites I recommend at the moment are: - The honey sesame chicken. Perfect balance of sweet and savory, and it's quite crispy too! - The sauce on the Las Vegas roll and its freshness was great. - The egg-roll was massive! Crab Rangoon's and dumplings / pot stickers were the best part of our order, but they literally cost DOUBLE what we pay at our normal Chinese carry-out joint, and they were good but not THAT much better... sushi was not great, we got an order of California rolls, and the 2 that tried them each had one, they apparently weren't good enough enough to go back for a second roll. So again, total waste of money there. The sesame chicken was ok, nothing to write home about. The pad Thai was the strangest flavor - not enjoyable. It had more onions than chicken, so you better like onions a LOT if you order this. We won't be going back here, I'm disappointed because I am looking for a new place for Chinese carry-out, I don't mind spending the extra money if it is worth it, but this was not. Food tasted good, good sauce and Veggie fried rice very good. Mixed vegetable soup was SUPER salty. Way too much use of cheap vegetable's in both dinners, lot's and lot's of big sliced carrots and big chunks of green peppers to fill the cartons... First time here. Very nice decor. Started with soup ( 4 of us ) Won ton home made large and delicious, hot and sour soups got " excellent " reviews, Tom yum was quite large and fantastic!! I ate lunch with my friend at this little gem last week. Park in the back of the building. The restaurant is in the walk-out lower level and more accessible. There is a super close, handy elevator that will see you comfortably to the street level if that's where you parked. I ordered the garlic honey chicken. Fresh ingredients, delicious flavors mingled in this Asian delight, generous portion. My friend had the Gen Tso's chicken which she said was the best she had ever eaten. She took home a doggy box because with the lettuce wraps, eggroll, and the main course, satiety came quickly. I had the Tom Yum soup and had 2 lettuce wraps as my appetizers. The soup was full of fresh vegetables, a savory peppery broth, perfectly seasoned without any burn to the palate. I needed a doggy bowl to take home 2/3. [I enjoyed the soup for breakfast the next day...yum] It was that generous of a serving and would have certainly filled me up before the main course. The eggroll found a good home, too, dipped generously in their sweet house sauce. The serving sizes will fill up anyone's hungry appetite, which I had that day, having had nothing to eat in 20 hours. The food was served hot and with friendly, efficient, attentive service by our server, Patty. The outgoing owner was present, too, seeing to every patron's comfort. Everyone had a smile on their faces, making the energies very positive at Lei Ting Blue Pearl. The decor is beautiful, serene, and contributes favorably to your culinary experience. Lei Ting was recently featured in an article in the local weekly newspaper, The Spinal Column. Having been a local Chinese eating establishment for decades, it had been recently purchased back by its original owner. They reported a grand plan to create a place that specialized in Asian Fusion. Milford is in need of some culturally diverse restaurants. We were sold on the concept and visited Lei Ting on the Fourth of July. We walked in to find the restaurant more than half full which was a good sign. The decor was a cool blue, attractive and modern and clean. The attractive menus were presented and were quite diverse: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Fusion. The chef's special 5-spice duck was posted on a sign by the bar. I love duck, especially duck breast, and when I can get it, I often cook it at home. My choice was easy. My wife was indecisive. She loves sushi but we were here to have a hot meal. She ordered Orange Chicken (although she would have ordered the more traditional, Orange Beef had they agreed to substitute). I requested calamari for a starter and she opted for a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll from the sushi bar. The waiter came back looking lost to report that they were out of calamari. I decided that the hot & sour soup would be enough for my appetizer. From here it was all down hill. The hand roll arrived and it was loaded with imitation crab and mayonnaise. Mayonnaise on sushi? No ginger, no wasabi, no soy sauce. Mayonnaise. And where was the spicy salmon? My wife mentioned it to the waiter and he seemed to not have a clue. After she rejected to the creation, I visited the sushi bar where owner "Chef Tom" was engrossed in a game or something on his cell phone. It took a full minute before he looked up. I told him about the mistake and he apologized and created the spicy tuna hand roll that was ordered. It was just as uninspiring and un-Japanese as the first creation. In the meantime, I was served my hot and sour soup which was neither hot nor sour. To be painfully accurate, there was so much gunk in the bowl that it was more like a thick stew of soy flavored mucus and tofu. Blech Then came the mains. The 5-spice duck was horrid. It was served on a nest of over cooked rice with mushrooms that were still ice cold. Buried in the rice were a couple of mini bokchoy halves that were saturated with water. The duck was inedible. It had been warmed so many times that it had a powdery consistency. And it was so salty that it made me gag. In my last bite, the overcooked meat tasted like it had been sitting on a dirty wash cloth. To say this was the worst version of duck that I have ever eaten in my 65 years of life would be a profound understatement. And it came back to haunt me. Within 12 hours I was tied to the toilet with acute food-borne diarrhea. The Orange Chicken was not much better. A meal at the fast food joint, Panda, would have been tastier for half the price. This dish was sugary though not with much orange or spice flavor. The rice was also overcooked mush. The dessert menu was just as compelling as the lunch/dinner menu. But with such a poor performance so far, we opted for a stop at the local Dairy Queen for some ice cream to purge the taste of the horrible dinner. I hate to leave bad reviews. But I also have no patience for poor service and bad food. It was such a shame really. We were looking for a restaurant that we could frequent. Instead we will continue on occasion to trek out to Troy or Rochester where the restaurants are markedly better. We won't be back to Lei Ting. Cost: $58 plus tip. Plenty of parking. read more
