As some who was a waiter for 7 years it's rare I ever go to a place and leave no tip. Not only was the service here not deserving of a tip but honestly I deserve a refund. Trust me, save your money and do not ever go here. Upon arriving, my friend and I took a seat and began to look at the menu. It took 10 minutes for the server to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink. Please keep in mind there are only three parties in the whole place. us (2), a family (5) and another table of friends (2). So the delays don't really make sense here. Once he came back with our waters we placed our orders. We both got two rolls each. It took 45 minutes for our food to be brought to us. During that time I witnessed the manager arguing several times with the chef. They were both yelling at each other. Once they brought over our food, they had completely forgotten a whole roll. Yup we ordered a whole 4 items and they couldn't remember that. I figured that maybe it was still being made so I ate my first roll. I kid you not, some of the salmon was frozen in the middle. But I pressed on because I was hungry. Now it had been 10 minutes since the food was brought over and the server never came to check on us. So I walked into the kitchen and told the server I was still waiting on the roll. He still had the chef work on two more orders that came in after mine before he made mine. Not once was there an apology or even an attempt. All I got is is "oh I forgot". Well I guess I forgot to leave a tip. Really only eat her on the weekends sometimes because I work in the same area. Sushi is not the best but its okay. I would go for the hand rolls particularly salmon. Lots of rice more than fish on the rolls. The salmon is usually good quality but I ordered the cucumber wrapped roll and the other fish inside of it wasn't the best. Looked off colored and tasted off as well. The gyoza dumplings were okay. Very small location. If there's nothing else around its decent enough to eat at. The staff is very nice. Way too much rice in their spicy tuna rolls and their tempura spicy tuna rolls and they also use avocado in them. You basically get no spicy tuna. Their California rolls have no cucumber so you end up with the same texture, it gets boring and a different flavor. The place wasn't packed or anything so we only waited maybe 10 minutes to get seated which wasn't bad. However, it wen't down hill from here and quickly. The lady that was serving us was SUPER slow and it must have taken her at least 10 minutes to get us water. We knew what we wanted pretty quickly and we placed our order. I had read that the service was slow so I was just curious on how long it would take to get our food so I timed it and it took us 45 minutes to get our food!!. There was another couple next to me and they twice complained that they receive the wrong food. I started regretting coming here after I started seeing more customers complain. My wife got her order first so I had start eating because we I didn't her to starve. She was done with her meal and, as we had a newborn, my wife stepped outside to feed our baby. And I still didn't have my food. I finally got my food, which was "ok" but not worth waiting 50 minutes for it. The two servers were so slow that another family that had come in started taking orders , bringing drinks and cleaning up the tables. The patrons must know the servers because they referred to each other by name. The lady asked my at least four times if I needed anything else (she was super nice) but nobody else (that worked there) ever came to ask. When it was time to pay, I told the (slowest) girl that I had Groupon but she only deducted the face value and not the Groupon value. I brought this to her attention, she corrected it but then said that there was a $5 redemption fee that was applied - ridiculous!!! I didn't want to get into it, because I just wanted to leave, so I let it go. After all this, this wasn't the worse part. One of the other customers complained about the horrible service and was going to walk out. The server tried to stop him (as she was calling the police) and the customer pushed the server out of the way. This is for sushi and two beers - for just two people!! ...so I took the bill and walked up to her and asked about the two coupons she told me (on two occasions) she would apply to our bill - and her response was: "Did you purchase the coupons?" ...."Where are the coupons?"... she said. My version of sushi is an avocado roll or some sort of veggie roll. So it's highly evident when a roll is lacking flavor, made sloppily, or is just really tiny. That never happens here! I come here with my family all the time. This place is small, yes, but the waitress and sushi chefs are always friendly and treat everyone like regulars. They have always been extremely welcoming to my three year-old niece as well. The waitress chats with her and has, on a couple of occasions, brought her a treat of oranges and mochi ice cream on the house. I recommend any of the rolls with eel (always delicious) and the Hot Babe Roll, if you like 'em spicy. Throw in a chilled glass white wine and it's a perfect night out. Since I like the restaurant so much, when I saw a Groupon available, I immediately purchased it, as did many others. I did like the yakisoba a lot though, and the portion size was good. I guess the food was a little bit more expensive than some other sushi places, but it didn't really bother me since I was using a Groupon. They applied our Groupon to the bill immediately, and all was good. I read in another review that they gave an immediate 15% gratuity charge, but my boyfriend handled the rest of the bill that we had to pay (~$6), so again, it didn't really bother me. My only minor complaint was that the menu didn't have a drinks or dessert section? Not that I saw anyway. However, they have a variety of drinks ranging from iced tea to beer to green tea. They had ice cream desserts too. The restaurant is very small, so I wouldn't recommend it if you are coming with a large group. The salmon, yellowtail, toro and kanpachi are outstanding. Ask for the salmon "Sophie style" with avocado, lemon and chili oil. The blue crab hand roll is a religious experience - giant portion of savory, briny crab. I love the soft shell crab appetizer, and the green mussels, too. There are rolls to please anyone, from basic California and rainbow rolls to rolls that are piled high. If you want grainy, mealy, mushy or flavorless sushi rice, go somewhere else. If you want thin slivers of sashimi this is. Or the place for you. Look for parking in the back to avoid the traffic from In-N-Out. Clean restroom. I've never had to wait for a table. I should have read all the horrible reviews from fellow yelpers before entering. Every single sushi we ordered was STALE! I should have left the food and took off, but I didn't want it to go to waste so I finished my orders and boy did I regret it the next day. My stomach was in pain the entire day and I had to spend it next to the toilet. I called my date to see if she was alright but she wasn't feeling well either. I'm sure they could do better but man, my experience here the day I came for lunch was such a MEH experience. First off, we sat at the bar and I could almost immediately tell that the chef was not very experienced. He was older and I thought he had some rolls under his belt but this was not the case. Only thing that really keeps me coming back is groupon. I do love their yaki soba; it's amazing every time I have it. Their sushi is always a 50/50 deal for me. It's either really good or just okay. Salmon roll is decent, it's not amazingly fresh, but it's better than most places I've gone to. Spicy tuna - gave me an awful tummy ache once, never again. Their salads are decent, I've had better. Tempura ice cream...It was okay. It was good for a moment, then bam - it turned into a powdery mushy bread with not very sweet green tea ice cream. I've lived in the area for a while and I had never heard of Sushi Yun. I found this little place through a Groupon Deal that gave you to get 50% off your meal! We went in expecting it to not be great, but we had a great meal and a good time. The place is really small so if it were at all busy I would stay clear. The waitress didn't really acknowledge us when we walked in so we just sat down. There were a group of boys who seemed to be regulars and she was very helpful to them, however, in order to get service we had to flag her down. It wasn't terribly busy so it didn't bug me much much, but there's definitely room for improvement. The food was much better than I had expected. One couple with a baby left and the husband actually went to the car with the baby and waited while the wife paid their bill. He was very upset because the service was so slow and they weren't getting any attention. Another couple was snapping at the waitress for more napkins, water, wasabi, soy sauce, forks . . . not very many happy people. We were seated within a few minutes at the table next to the window. It was a great location as it was a bigger table and we got to see everything that was happening. The waitress took our order immediately as we told her we knew exactly what we wanted. Now let's get down to the taste, quality of the sushi. The rolls were poorly rolled, fell apart and lacked taste. We ordered five rolls (ranging from $5.95 - $13.95), edemame, glass of wine, small Kirian beer and large Kirian beer and with our $20 Groupon, it came to $50 (so basically, $70 total). I thought it was a complete rip off for the quality of the food. We had some leftovers and declined to take it home (we usually take all our leftovers). Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. After about 40minutes, was told another five minutes and that they are backed on orders and they are prioritizing people who's dining in. After twenty more minutes no food, everyone from door dash employees, to dinners, and to go kept being told food would be out in 5 more minutes. Never happened, and after noticing that even the diners were waiting for drinks and checks and constantly being told the same excuse. Finally asked about an hour for a refund. Horrible horrible service, was never even checked on and I they never once apologized for the delay. Was never even acknowledged until I asked for a refund and then was finally told "Extremely sorry. I have driven by this place lots of times....just too busy to stop and this time I did. Good Food, Good Service..... I really recommend this place. I had the Two Item Special Combo and Sophie personally made the sushi and it was great ! Too bad I didn't stop and try Sushi Yun before. read more
