I'm so torn about this review because there was only one major downside to the dish, but it was one that completely turned me off. The sushi rice they use (I ordered the spicy tuna roll) was so incredibly sweet! I'm talking arroz con leche sweet- way too sweet, and also too sticky for my taste. And let's be honest, if the rice isn't good, that's kind of a major part of sushi. But it wouldn't be fair not to state the positives about the roll, because aside from the rice I was happy: the tuna was fresh, the spicy mayo was quite possibly the best I've ever had, and the portion size was super generous for the price. Stopped here after my workout at the gym next door. i saw the reviews and decided to give it a try and test it out. The place was empty as it was 3pm, Sophie greeted me while she was rolling some sushi. I purchased 3 rolls, Rainbow, Hawaiian and Philadelphia Rolls. The sign outside said 40% off on select rolls but after i inquired about that she informed me that it did not apply to my choices, only the ones that did not have fish on top of the rolls. I didn't mind as i was prepared to pay the reg price anyways, i ordered takeaway since i did not want to eat all by myself and took them home to share with my dad. She was very polite and fast while doing my order. I think it took about 7 min and brought my bag outside where i was waiting. the rolls were neatly packaged and labeled. plenty of soy sauce and other condiments. the fish quality was good, the rice was also good, it did not have a sweet flavor like some reviews acclaimed. Only one person working. Service needs help. She needs someone working up front. I tried calling a few times about my order and she; I suppose the owner?, the one who prepares the sushi [more about that later], the waitress, cashier, buss person,, & who knows, the one who cleans the bathroom, could not take my call. There are two reasons I don't recommend a Sushi Yun. The fist one is that we ordered the Shrimp Tempura and it said (8) pieces on the menus for 8.95. When it came it only had (5). We asked about it and the manager was startled and said it was a misprint. They said that other restaurants only give (4) prices so this was okay. The second reason is that the food took forever to come out. We were the only table Sat the entire time. There were a few to-go orders that were picked up. The fish was not fresh.. the salmon was not even really that vibrant salmon color.. significantly more pale and the tuna was ground up which made me highly suspicious. I probably would have gotten it anyways, I met with my friend and mentioned the reviews. We figured that you never know, maybe some of us will like it. The place is very small, and it did fill all the way up before we left. Food was fine, not bad, not one of my better ones I have had in regards to sushi. However I didn't find the hostess to be really friendly. Barely talked at all, asked for things, and never really a reply. Once it started to fill up she forgot we existed. We were never offered any refills or even checked on to see how we were doing. Okay whatever. What ticked me off was when I waited close to 40 minutes to pay for my bill! Like I want to wait that long to give you money! We finally had to stop and ask her for that and a box. Then it took 5-10 minutes more and she still forgot the box. The bill came to a total of 73 cents after the groupon. She manually wrote in a tip and total line. Good thing it wasn't more to where I needed to use a card! 1.5 stars. Got a groupon for this place. Fiance and I tried it because we're always looking for a great sushi place and after reading the reviews, thought it can't be bad...It was bad! Customer service was Ok...but food, not Ok. Also, I do not like hair in my food...more on that later. We got 2 lunch specials which contained spicy tuna cut roll, salmon/tuna sushi, crunchy cut roll. The sushi, and I've noticed this with sushi places that don't have fresh fish, they tend to be on the drier and rubbery side, as if it's fake fish or something. We only enjoy fresh fish so of course we were super disappointed. And we laughed when we saw the back of the waitress' shirt "best sushi in orange" and thought, dang, if this is the best sushi in orange, then the city of Orange does not have a high standard of sushi. The deal-breaker? There was a nice 2 inch STRINGY black hair entwined in my salad! Thank God I don't like to eat salad. If we did not have a groupon for this restaurant, we would have been really sad that we spent a lot of money for substandard sushi. Maybe we should have known when we entered the restaurant a little past noon and there were no customers during peak lunch hours. After 15min asked if there was a waitress, he said there was and hold on a minute, he continued working behind the counter for another five minutes, came out adjusted the thermostat and closed the front door. Still ignored. When he got back behind the counter I asked to order again. He nodded. Another five minutes pass.... He comes out and takes our drink orders. Bring back three cans of soda, we've been here around half an hour, in an empty restaurant. The waitress walks in the front door with shopping bags. Decided to try out this place to see what the fuss is all about. Came for lunch with my boyfriend. Sat down to take in the ambience of the whole place. The wall is covered in a photos of smiling customers who supposedly had a great time doing karaoke. It smelled like someone just mopped the floor and that wasn't really helping my appetite but it was okay by the time the food came out. The 16 piece mixed sashimi came on a cute wooden boat. It was 4 pieces each of salmon, tuna, yellowtail (surprisingly chewy and I'm not sure how I felt about it), and what appeared to be tuna steak (surprisingly yummy but I'm not sure why it would be part of this sashimi boat). The pieces weren't cut nice and thick like you would expect; they were more like strips, but whatever it tasted okay. The carrot and cress garnish were used generously, at least. One thing I'd have to complain about is that the wasabi (there was an obvious sad attempt to shape it into a leaf) and ginger were not put onto every plate and what came on the boat was all we had for the whole time. (I guess we could've just asked for more after the sashimi boat was taken away but it would've been nice to not feel like the chef was being cheap with it.) Ichiban roll was yummy and pieces were nice and fat. The baked green mussels appetizer came after that (but it's okay, the nice waitress already warned us that it would take a while) and they were also nice and creamy and delicious, like shots of heart disease. And here's where I admit my main motive for even choosing to eat somewhere so out of the way is because Sushi Yun offers a great gift certificate through Restaurant.com. I ordered an additional Pink Lady roll because I personally felt bad even using a $25 off coupon on what had been $40 worth of sushi. I can understand how it would suck if customers came in and you knew, as an owner, they came just because of the gift certificate and will only buy the minimum amount and be done with it. But at the same time, if your business has this agreement, every customer should be treated fairly. If anyone is planning on coming here for the same reason, I would suggest to not bring it up at all until the very end to prevent against any discrimination through bad service and whatnot. That last extra Pink Lady roll turned out to be my favorite one, too. The crunchy tempura wrapped in thick salmon slices and garnished with avocado and cress were completed with a tangy sauce that was drizzled over the whole roll. Overall, the sushi wasn't bad at all. It's sad to see the place so empty (but it was probably just the time of day and the beginning of the week). Don't wave your coupon around and don't even let it be seen until the very end if you worry that it will affect how you are treated by the servers or the owner (who seems like a very nice lady who was actually an okay person with unique geisha makeup). read more

The first time we came in. Slow service . We were the only customers in the restaurant! The waitress has to be flagged down to order. I think because when adds her own tip on the receipt, she really doesn't need to pay attention to the customers. She also talked on her phone while waving bye to us without looking up. They made a sushi roll with cream cheese and the description did not mention any cream cheese. The sushi though, is really good. We ordered the hot babe and the yum rainbow., yummy. Miso was good n the jalapeño appetizers were nice n spicy. The second time we visited , my Groupon deal had expired so the same waitress as the first time didn't want to honor it. When I told her it says "amount paid NEVER expires" she honored the $20 credit. I don't recall what we ordered but the service was a lot faster and the sushi was oh so delicious! Ordered 5 rolls, a poki bowl and salad. Didn't think it'll be too good considering we just randomly drove by and didn't read Yelp reviews first. Surprisingly it was great, fish was fresh and generous. Rice was soft and sweet like it should be. I would never have discovered Sushi Yun if it wasn't for a die-hard fan. It's a small local establishment with a wall of chopsticks for regulars. There's nothing fancy about the decor; they have kitschy Asian decorations with photos of customers plastered all over the walls (warning: some are shirtless or have their boobs falling out). They do have a TV so you can watch the news or sports though. Prices are fair for medium-premium sushi and sashimi. For those on a budget, they have lunch specials, bento box-style with teriyaki or tempura and the classic California rolls. However, I guess I like the finer things in life and they offer it at a good price - my favorite is actually a roll with rice (I don't eat rice usually): the eel roll. The Love Roll on their specials menu is another favorite that is thick, fatty salmon wrapped around avocado and greens, without rice. I crave the sushi here and the intimate feel. I don't get why there are so many bad reviews. I've been here so far 3 times and everytime the food,service and prices were fine. The portions were good, I usually eat a lot and I couldn't finish my meal the other day. The rolls are a good size and the server checked up on us frequently. Also it didn't take long for our food to come out so there wasn't a wait. After our meal I like how they give out an orange with whip cream chocolate drizzle and a cherry on top.
