Great ambiance as well, rather than some techno-vibe throbbing music you will get nice music, warm atmosphere and a more traditional sushi bar feel. They also get great cuts of fish...."O Toro", Beni-Toro, (fatty salmon), Unagi, and many others. Try the black dragon roll with black "forbidden rice", (saved for the emperor only in the past), with soft shell crab on the inside, avocado, paper thin julienned cucumber, unagi, (bbq eel), on the outside with unagi sauce on the outside, (similar to a thicker teriyaki sauce). You will not find a sushi bar with better service, food and a place you will want to frequent more than this! They do a great job! Really like this cute sushi restaurant in the Wheaton Danada area. Most of the time I get the Salmon Bento Box. The Bento box includes teriyaki grilled salmon, California rolls, shrimp/ vegetable tempura, soup and white rice. Can't really go wrong with any of the Bento boxes. We tried a new place for sushi. I am glad we did. The sushi here was delicious. Our favorite was the Snow White Roll. It melts in your mouth. I couldn't give them 5 stars because when seated we were presented with a menu and then a sheet of paper to mark down our orders for the sushi chefs. We ordered from here for a little pre-valentines meal. My husband got the niku noodles and gyoza. I got a sweet potato roll, the chicken vegetable noodle dish and crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon- super rich, smooth and creamy. Very savory! There isn't any discernible crab chunks in there but Ir was enjoyable. Sweet potato roll- not overly flavorful, but worth the try. Chicken vegetable noodle- had a delicious sauce unlike anything I'd tried before. The chicken in it was tough and dry though. Niku noodles- my husband saw the picture on DoorDash and was excited to try this. He is EXTREMELY onion-averse and the dish did not list onion in it, neither did the photo show that. The picture vs what he got was pretty different. There was lots of onion and he was unable to eat it. I ended up having it for leftovers and I thought the flavors were good. The noodles were filling, but again the meat was a little tough. All in all, a 3 star experience. read more

It's usually a disappointment when I patronize a Japanese restaurant that employs non-Japanese servers who don't know much about Japanese cuisine. Not always, as in cases where the servers actually spent some time in Japan, but at Sushi Ukai, the ambiance is one of a wannabe Japanese restaurant. We ordered sushi takeout from Sushi Ukai in Wheaton recently. First time trying this place. When I got there to pick up the order, the place was packed with people picking up orders, presumably due to Valentine's Day. Despite being crazy busy and continuing to get calls for new orders, service was friendly. Anyway, we ordered a Fire Dragon roll, a Crunchy roll, and a Karma roll. The Fire Dragon roll was pretty tasty and was surrounded by a healthy dose of sliced daikon in its container. The black rice was an interesting touch, and it was nicely garnished with sauce. The Crunchy roll was a pretty standard shrimp crunch roll, with one difference -- the bottom had what seemed like a simple syrup, lending the roll an interesting touch of sweetness. I think it was missing masago, though. The Karma roll was unique because it was wrapped in daikon. Interesting. These rolls were rather big, so I had to try and bite each in half, which can get pretty messy thanks to the toughness of seaweed. At first, these seemed to be lacking in flavor, but then my wife realized that one of the plastic containers had not soy sauce, but unagi sauce. That upped the flavor. All the rolls were good and had some nuances that I haven't commonly seen, but taste-wise were nothing out of this world. Overall, 3.5 stars. read more

We had a nice lunch experience at Sushi House on a Friday afternoon. Quick service, water & tea refills. We had a salmon & a chicken bento box. The California rolls were a bit bland, but they tend to be anyway. Chicken & salmon were both hot & tasty and the teriyaki sauce was good. Tempura was very fresh. This was my place to go for sushi when I used to live in the area. I tried other sushi places around for the three years I live there and this one was so far the best sushi.I used to order the Fujiyama, it was sweet, the right type of sweet for me and crunchy (fried). Other rolls I liked were the dragon roll and the Chicago fire. For dessert their Mango, strawberry mochi were so delish. Their service was top notch always. Very disappointed. I didn't realize this had changed ownership and was no longer Sushi House...until I got home with my order and saw the menu and our order. The roll we ordered was just bland and wasn't as described on their menu. We each ate one piece. We wanted a hot noodle dish so we got DanDan Noodles. The description said "pork and garlic stir-fry with hot sesame and peanut sauce." The sauce wasn't hot sesame and peanut sauce. I don't really know what it was because it had no flavor. It was gritty and absolutely awful. We got about 1/4 cup of meat total. After a couple bites it went into the trash with the roll. I doubt I'll give this place another chance because it was that bad. I am not a fast food person but I'd rather eat McDonalds than here. read more

Sushi House Wheaton is part of a small group of family owned and operated sushi restaurants in the western suburbs. I haven't been to all of them, but like their restaurant in downtown Glen Ellyn, the Wheaton location features an upscale feel, friendly and accommodating staff, and wonderful food. This evening three of us (two sushi lovers and one non-seafood eater) had a wonderful experience and a delicious meal. The sushi is fresh, expertly made, and delicious. The non-seafood items are wonderfully flavorful and delicious. Also, the hot and sour soup is worth the trip alone. Hot, spicy, and very tasty, I could almost have had the soup as a meal. The Wheaton location is smaller than the Glen Ellen location, it seems, but both locations are worth your time. We will be back. read more

I was unimpressed with Sushi House. I was going to see a movie at Studio Movie Grill, but arrived early to get good seats. Since we had time to kill we decided to try out Sushi House. We ordered miso soup and two rolls: Blackhawks and spicy tuna. The rolls were very small for the price you pay. The Blackhawks roll went overboard with the Tobiko. The service was lacking. I've had some mad sushi cravings lately, so (again after yoga) I called in an order to Sushi House. I ordered nigiri: 2 Tuna ($6) , 1 Ikura ($4), and 1 Benitoro ($3.55). I also ordered the Red Crunchy Roll ($15.50 - shrimp tempura, avocado, and masago, sliced tuna on top). They quoted me 10 minutes for pick-up. I got there a little after the quoted time, and my food wasn't ready yet. Since there is no seating in the front, they offered me a table to sit at. (There I am in tight, sweaty yoga attire and messy hair, right by the cash register with 3 servers who are just kind of standing around. Awkwardddd!) The space IS cute, though. It has a pretty decent Date Night vibe. There were two sushi chefs - one older Asian man, and the other a 20-something Caucasian guy. The latter was VERY chatty and was telling stories in a really animated way as they made sushi. I found it a bit humorous since the older man didn't seem the least bit interested. Still, entertaining. I waited for about 10 minutes inside. The containers they pack in are very large, so if you don't have a large order and get take-out, expect your food to slide around. My roll and nigiri ended up all pushed together, and the Ikura had toppled over on the commute (fish eggs everywhere - nooooooo!). I was really pleased that they packed the Benitoro separately in its own container, but dismayed that there was some sort of sauce poured on it, saturating the fish and rice. It was still good, but *I* like to control my saucy portions. The Tuna and Ikura Nigiri was really tasty. The fish-to-rice ratio was very good - LOTS of fish! I was super excited about the Benitoro, and it was also good. The rice was just OK - not the best sushi rice. The Red Crunchy Roll was also just OK. In all it was a better experience this time around, but the cost vs. taste... yeahhh, not really feelin' it. Sorry Sushi House. read more

Always a good place to go to for sushi. It's not the best sushi you'll ever eat but you will find some really good rolls here. I should note that this is part of a chain of restaurants. But this specific location is good, the food is what you would expect, the service is also pretty good, and the place is clean and cozy. I would be back here. read more

I've enjoyed trying many sushi restaurants over the last 10 years and I have to say Sushi House is one of the best I've been to. The place is immaculate, small, and charming. The waitresses (especially Tanya) are nice and every attentive. This is one of those places where you run out of your drink and they discreetly refill it without you even noticing. I've tried a large portion of their menu and I've always been pleased with the quality of the food. The sushi is always very fresh. The food is really presented with Japanese aesthetics in mind. I enjoy taking pictures of their dishes as evidenced from some of the pictures I've uploaded. The prices are definitely more expensive for dinner which is why I prefer going their for lunch, but it's all good. I'll pay the extra for the good quality and the good service. read more

Just waited 1 hour for no food. It's a Saturday night it's understandable that they are busy. However, in one hour, I would expect our server to stop by our table more than once to update us on the status of our order. We did not realize it would take one hour to receive no food and Sushi House did not inform us it would take more than an hour to receive our food. We had to leave for another appointment and did not have another hour to wait. They expected payment for food that we didn't receive. Paid it cash just so we could go. FYI Sushi House, good business sense dictates that when you don't deliver products, you shouldn't expect payment. read more
