The restaurant got very busy and the server managed it all without any delays - - so kudos to her (Kate/Katie, I believe). The teriyaki calamari appetizer was a definite hit. This is the first time I ordered sushi to be delivered from this restaurant I ordered two salads with ginger dressing and four traditional maki/rolls, tuna, spicy tuna, yellowtail and eel. All were fresh and good sized rolls cut into six pieces. The tuna and yellowtail rolls had huge pieces of fish, more fish than rice, which was a nice surprise. I ordered a specialty roll, Dragon, which was very good. It has spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado and eel, and then topped with more eel and eel sauce and cut into eight pieces. So much flavor. I will definitely order from Shinto again when we don't feel like going out but want good sushi at home. Well packed for delivery, too. read more

First time trying this location and I really like the more toned down feel in comparison to the 59 location. Of course no hibachi here so that alone relaxes the vibe. I texted my friends in Japan and they said it must be an American thing? I tried remaking them myself at the table but I never got it right. My agedashi tofu which is my favorite Japanese appetizer, was so salty I couldn't eat that. Because of the super dark color I assumed they over did it with the soy sauce? Finding quality sushi is hard to come by in the suburban Chicagoland region, without a doubt. Thankfully, Shinto is around to remedy that! I'm just going to say right off the bat that Shinto does not skimp out on fish with their maki, and that's what has always been impressive and appreciative for me. Unlike many competitor sushi joints in the area, the maki rolls are not overwhelmed by how much rice there is. Especially with the Alaskan Roll (tuna, salmon, and avocado), I was half expecting there to be tiny pieces of fish and a sliver of avocado inside in each roll. When I saw how wrong my assumptions were, it was no surprise that I was pretty excited. You can actually taste a balance of the fish and rice, instead of just having a mouthful of rice and a hint of fish. Quality of the fish overall is pretty good. Both the tuna and salmon were fresh, no funky smells, flavors, or textures. The eel and shrimp were the only things that were cooked in the rolls, and there aren't any complaints there either. With COVID still lingering around, my family and I chose to do takeaway. Placing the order was easy, quick, and the woman I spoke to on the phone was friendly and helpful with any questions I had. Restaurant was kept clean and had sanitation stations by the door and at the pick-up table. All staff were wearing masks and kept their distance too. My husband and I have been going to the same sushi place for nearly 10 years and finally decided we need to branch out. I was extremely underwhelmed overall. The store itself has nice decor and some interesting elements. I couldn't tell if the back was a sushi bar or not. My husband was underwhelmed by his mojito but I really enjoyed the passion martini. We did the sushi dinner for 2 at 72 dollars. The pieces of fish on the nigiri were so thin. The quality was fine but the pieces were so tiny. The heat roll had great flavor but was too big for just one bite which was hard. The rainbow roll really needed a sauce or salt or something. It was really missing some sort of flavor beyond the fish and soy sauce and I generally love just plan sashimi and nigiri. Service was fine. Nothing to write home about. We were seated promptly. Drink order taken quickly. Waters refilled often. Offers for another drink happened. However, since our normal sushi place has the same dinner for two for nearly 20 dollars less with large slices of fish we will not be returning. read more

Decided to try the Shinto on Freedom Drive in Naperville yesterday for lunch since I had an amazing dinner at the restaurant location on Route 59. The service was great, but I was the only person in the restaurant for a. While. I was however disappointed with the food. I ordered the shrimp hibachi dinner meal to fairly compare it to the Rt 59 restaurant. There freedom drive location has no hibachi grills at the tables, do food is prepared and brought out to your table and, the portion size was significantly smaller for the same price. I ordered a side of the noodles and they were horrible. I will stick with the location on Route 59. read more

Had dinner at Shinto my last night in town for work. I did not catch my server's name, but he was very friendly and efficient. The decor is nice, especially the sand tray floor. I ordered hamachi sashimi, which was a great price at $6. It was thicker cut then I like, but very buttery and good quality. I also ordered an eel roll, which was very good tasting, and rolled tight so it didn't fall apart and had a good kick with the layer of wasabi in it. The great reviews had me sold already, but I'm glad I checked out Groupon first because they were offering a $30 voucher for $15, which we ended up getting for $12 with coupon code. Score! It took us a few minutes to get seated. Liam was our waiter, and as other reviewers have mentioned, he was wonderful. Helped me select the "cooked" sushi rolls, divided the shrimp fried rice in three different bowls for our kids, which was a really nice touch, and gave us just the right amount of attention without being intrusive. The crab rangoons were by far one of the best I've ever tasted, but a little pricey at $8 for 4 rangoons. The shrimp fried rice was delicious. My 18 month old loved it and kept asking for more. The sushi rolls were fresh and nicely presented. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but decent. My favorite was the crispy crunch roll. Shrimp tempura was pretty good too. The dragon and heat roll were alright, nothing to write home about. I was a little disappointed that our bill came out to $78, but subtracting the Groupon of $30 brought us down to $48. Not too bad considering we had a party of 6. We also had leftovers to take home to family, so that was an added benefit. It's above average which what you'll expect from a strip mall sushi joint. We're not from the area so we don't know the difference between Freedom and Rt 59 location other than the hibachi offering. Small pieces of nigiri and sashimi for the price of $4 a piece. Nevertheless, 6 pcs nigiri, 8 pieces sashimi, 2 rolls and 2 appetizers and Katsu dinner(for takeout) cost $160. If in the area of the Chicago Fashion Outlet again will not go back to this place. There should be some fine Sushi restaurant in Aurora or Naperville. read more
