This is my new favorite cheap AYCE sushi. For about 25 bucks you can have some pretty good quality nigiri and appetizers to satisfy your sushi cravings. The salmon and tuna nigiri were my favorite. Everything tasted fresh and the amount of rice they gave wasn't too much so you can capitalize on more fish. The speciality rolls they have here kinda sucks though. Their volcano roll and the tempura has way too much batter and just didn't taste good. Also, stay away from the cheap artificial appetizers. Edamame and seaweed is the best here. Service was very fast and atmosphere is nice.

We like this place. Depending on time and party size it can be a bit hectic but our family has been here several times and most recently tonight with a group of 7 adults and 2 toddlers. A bit of confusion with our ordering for so many people, but the food was good and clean high chairs are always a bonus!

This place is phenomenal. They have some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. Their all you can eat is for $20 and they don't pack the rolls of just rice. The service is amazing. They consistently asked how we are doing and if we needed anything else. The place is dimly lit and is had a nice atmosphere to it but no designs that are too distracting. Highly recommend!

You better have a good appetite, because if you're doing AYCE sushi, you'll be challenged! It's $29.99 pp from 3-9 PM. There's a good number of special rolls included on the AYCE menu, but you can also get nigiri and appetizers like most places. Appetizers like miso soup, crab rangoon, and gyoza are all fine. Warning, the shumai is a little suss compared to everything else. Nigiri comes with big cuts of fish and this is great. I had tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and more, and they all tasted fantastic. The one problem is that the amount of rice that is padded underneath is the most I've ever seen for nigiri. The rolls are the main attraction, and you'll be happy with the selection here. The mountain roll was one of my table's favorites, but you can't go wrong with any of the other choices. Hope you like shrimp, because it's in a lot of the rolls offered. Service is pretty fast, and the restaurant is clean. I even have friends come here for a la carte, and there's a nice variety on the regular menu. Despite the nigiri having an overwhelming amount of rice, everything else was great.

Hokkai sushi is in the Trader Joe's parking lot so it's easy to start thinking about sushi once you see the sign. I was turned off by the font on their sign- "Hokkai" in flames. Based on that alone, I didn't pop in... until today. The interior is modern and chic. It's dimly lit and decorated somewhere between awesome 80's and early 2000's club. For 1pm on a weekday, with an awesome lunch special, I expected it to be busy. It was dead! I asked my server about their busy time but she didn't speak much English. Everything was delicious and fresh. Everything was served beautifully- you can tell they spent time on the presentation. I appreciate that. I recommend Hokkai! But tell me the sign doesn't throw you off??!

I've only been here twice. According to their website, it says the ayce is something like $27. It's a bit higher than the last time I was there. I haven't been back in awhile since there are a lot more options now. I'll share some pictures, the menu is pretty much the same. If you are craving for sushi and on a budget, it's a good deal. If you care about the quality and have been to others, I would say the quality is eh.. mediocre. Nothing that would wow you. As for me, the quality was average, nothing more. Definitely check this place out if you don't feel like going to the Schaumburg area and are in the mood for a sushi fest.

3.5 stars. Love the option that they offer ayce sushi made to orders. Located in Trader Joe's plaza. The parking a lot needs some tlc but so so. Never been so was excited to try it out. However, all of the rolls include rice and are loaded with rice. They're is a disclaimer regarding them noting the customers must finish what they order in the menu or they'll be charged an additional fee. We did like that as they advertise one cost for ayce. The food was pretty good. The ambience is nice, clean, and service was just okay.

All you can eat sushi prices seem to be on the rise everywhere and Hokkai is comparable to others at $27.50 for AYCE dinner. The wait staff is attentive and seems to make their rounds every few minutes. There is no desserts on the AYCE menu, but who has room for that anyhow? Overall, great food, service and ambiance. Rolls Ordered Pop-up roll (topped with spicy tuna) - My favorite of the night, tasty spicy tuna. Chicago roll Green Turtle roll Angry Dragon roll Twister roll The nigiri's were pretty good, a bit heavy on the rice. The fried scallops appetizer was more like imitation crab, but fun to eat. .|\---/| | o_o | .\_^_/..2022

Decent place for AYCE sushi. The biggest positive was that the fish tasted fresh! Which is obviously my #1 want when visiting a new sushi place. What I didn't love is the AYCE menu is somewhat smaller than other places and almost every roll has a fried or tempera element. I usually like the fresher rolls. The other negative is that the Nigiri pieces are on top of HUGE mounds of rice. It is ridiculously too much rice per piece which just makes me feel like they want you to be filled up and out the door.

I went with the bento box B with the teriyaki chicken, and I can't really pick a clear standout. The teriyaki chicken was cooked perfectly and just hit right, but the fried vegetables were just as impressive. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. And yes, I said vegetables... I know, right. They kind of balance each other out, and honestly both were equally good for different reasons. I also grabbed a side of crab rangoon and yeah... those were crazy good. Crispy outside, creamy inside, just straight addictive. Only complaint is you get three. That's it. I could've put down 30 without even thinking about it. What I really liked is this place doesn't try too hard. The food is clean, fresh, and consistent. You can tell they care about what they're putting out. Unfortunately my wife is vegetarian and the seafood roll included fish eggs, so that obviously doesn't work. At first I was told no, and after speaking with the manager it turned into an unnecessarily difficult conversation before they finally agreed to remake it. What was most disappointing wasn't the initial mistake -- those happen -- but the attitude and unwillingness to correct something that was such a simple fix. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I strongly believe that taking care of your guests and making things right should always come first. Losing a loyal customer over the cost of a few sushi rolls simply doesn't make sense. Restaurants, especially those serving seafood and shellfish, should be mindful that many guests have dietary restrictions, allergies, or lifestyle choices like vegetarian or vegan diets. Unless it's clearly stated otherwise, customers should be able to expect that separate items will be packaged separately. Unfortunately this experience has made me reconsider supporting a place I've visited and recommended many times before in Downers Grove. Hoping this is something they reflect on for the future.
