This place had been on my list to try for awhile. The parking lot is cramped and shared with the 2 strips of businesses. The first thing I noticed upon entry was how clean the restaurant felt. Service was excellent. The rolls that I tried were good. They offer all you can eat or you may order off the menu. There are teriyaki items available for your non sushi loving friends. This is my new favorite cheap AYCE sushi. For about 25 bucks you can have some pretty good quality nigiri and appetizers to satisfy your sushi cravings. The salmon and tuna nigiri were my favorite. Everything tasted fresh and the amount of rice they gave wasn't too much so you can capitalize on more fish. The speciality rolls they have here kinda sucks though. Their volcano roll and the tempura has way too much batter and just didn't taste good. Also, stay away from the cheap artificial appetizers. Edamame and seaweed is the best here. This place is phenomenal. They have some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. Their all you can eat is for $20 and they don't pack the rolls of just rice. The service is amazing. They consistently asked how we are doing and if we needed anything else. The place is dimly lit and is had a nice atmosphere to it but no designs that are too distracting. We like this place. Depending on time and party size it can be a bit hectic but our family has been here several times and most recently tonight with a group of 7 adults and 2 toddlers. You better have a good appetite, because if you're doing AYCE sushi, you'll be challenged! It's $29.99 pp from 3-9 PM. There's a good number of special rolls included on the AYCE menu, but you can also get nigiri and appetizers like most places. Appetizers like miso soup, crab rangoon, and gyoza are all fine. Warning, the shumai is a little suss compared to everything else. Nigiri comes with big cuts of fish and this is great. I had tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and more, and they all tasted fantastic. The one problem is that the amount of rice that is padded underneath is the most I've ever seen for nigiri. The rolls are the main attraction, and you'll be happy with the selection here. The mountain roll was one of my table's favorites, but you can't go wrong with any of the other choices. Hope you like shrimp, because it's in a lot of the rolls offered. Service is pretty fast, and the restaurant is clean. I even have friends come here for a la carte, and there's a nice variety on the regular menu. Despite the nigiri having an overwhelming amount of rice, everything else was great. read more

Ive been here three times and each time I was turned off in some way. I wont be giving this place a fourth chance. One time it was just my husband and I dinning and they began shutting off the lights and mopping. Mind you it was 2 hours before it was posted that they were to close. It was clear that they were trying to push us out. Another time the light above our table kept flickering and making us nauseous. When we asked to move the waitress gave us a hard "No". We had to get a manager to have us change tables. Also, the wait staff stands in the corner and stares at you the entire time like a hawk while you eat, its very uncomfortable. The staff is unkind and the sushi is cold. Even the ones that should be warm, are under room temp at best. I dont recommend this place to anyone. read more

Hokkai sushi is in the Trader Joe's parking lot so it's easy to start thinking about sushi once you see the sign. I was turned off by the font on their sign- "Hokkai" in flames. Based on that alone, I didn't pop in... until today. The interior is modern and chic. It's dimly lit and decorated somewhere between awesome 80's and early 2000's club. For 1pm on a weekday, with an awesome lunch special, I expected it to be busy. It was dead! I asked my server about their busy time but she didn't speak much English. Everything was delicious and fresh. Everything was served beautifully- you can tell they spent time on the presentation. I appreciate that. I recommend Hokkai! We have been going here since 2015. This place has gotten better over the years. Service is wonderful. We moved further away from this restaurant and recently was in the area and it was great to see the same waitresses. Food is good. Im not sure if it's because we haven't been here in a year but food seems fresher and quality/quantity is great. All you can eat menu has good choices and price is reasonable for what you get. I've only been here twice. According to their website, it says the ayce is something like $27. It's a bit higher than the last time I was there. I haven't been back in awhile since there are a lot more options now. I'll share some pictures, the menu is pretty much the same. If you are craving for sushi and on a budget, it's a good deal. If you care about the quality and have been to others, I would say the quality is eh.. mediocre. Nothing that would wow you. As for me, the quality was average, nothing more. A solid modestly priced, good value Japanese restaurant. We came for a late lunch on Friday. Nice and informative staff. Pretty room with better decoration and ambiance than expected for the price. We had the all-you-can eat lunch special. Sushi, sashimi, and rolls are on the smaller side which is perfect. This means you can experiment with broader choices and not waste food. It's a decent AYCE sushi restaurant. We ordered nigiri and rolls and enjoyed most of it. I appreciate that they don't use too much rice in their rolls, so you can actually taste the ingredients. Decent place for AYCE sushi. The biggest positive was that the fish tasted fresh! Which is obviously my #1 want when visiting a new sushi place. What I didn't love is the AYCE menu is somewhat smaller than other places and almost every roll has a fried or tempera element. I usually like the fresher rolls. The other negative is that the Nigiri pieces are on top of HUGE mounds of rice. Literally THE best all you can eat sushi I've ever had. Very good quality and has all the yummy appetizer offerings I love on the AYCE menu too! $30 seems like a bit of a ticket but it's worth it. Delicious AYCE sushi spot. The sushi comes out quick after you place your order in. The waitress/waiter were all so nice and quick with refilling water and getting us our wine glass (plastic/rubber feel cups) for our moscato that we brought to the restaurant. The sushi were all so delicious especially the spicy tuna. The tuna nigiri was thick cut slices which was a bit too much for me to eat. Friday Night Dinner, AYCE Food: 4-stars Service: 3-Stars Price/Value: 2-Stars I have to say the food was very well prepared--with freshness of the sushi and sashimi being key!! The service is, well, confusing since you never quite know who your server is (roving concept) so I just started holding up my filled out sushi order in the air and someone came over, often times stealthily from behind me, snatched it up, and delivered it to the kitchen. Since one person takes your order and another delivers it, they really never know who ordered what, which, in the end is ok too if you are sharing. Just know it's a dynamic server environment. The restaurant itself is an eclectic mix between contemporary cocktail bar (when you first walk in) and traditional Japanese restaurant (front entry and dining room) which makes for a cool vibe--except no cocktails--which is ok at this point given you will not get out of there for under 50 bucks--per person! Would I come back? Probably, for that annual holiday catch up get together with a bud but definitely not as a "go to." read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk in but the restaurant is clean and well spaced out. Servers talk abruptly but do their job efficiently, which is what we look for when at AYCE sushi. The nigiri quality was fresh and melt in your mouth, however they do pack a ton of rice underneath which ruins the proportions. Overall, I was impressed by the quality of the fish however. Rolls were delicious. We got the salmon avocado, Alaskan roll, and Chicago rolls. We are big salmon people. I'd say the appetizer menu isn't as extensive as other AYCE places. And they did not have raw scallop on the menu which we love to order in nigiri. Overall quality of sushi 5/5 Too much rice packed in nigiri left tastebuds unproportioned in every bite.
