I was really surprised to place an order in here that it would take 40 minutes, which is pretty incredible for a sushi place. I don't think I've ever had to wait that long. They have a large menu which made it very difficult to decide what to order. I ended up going with the Volcano, Green Bay, and the Chicago crazy Maki. When I arrived to pick up, there was quite a line and it looked like most of the tables were already full. I can see why the place is really busy because the food is excellent. I think I overlooked the Chicago crazy and missed that there wasn't any sauce in the ingredients so that was the most plain one which is fine for people that prefer sushi without any type of sauces. I am not that type of person so I definitely like the other two a lot. It's always great to know of a good sushi spot to go to in the neighborhood and I would definitely come back here. read more

This whole time I thought I had wrote a review for this spot already. Surprised I haven't! Love this cute spot in the burbs. They have remodeled since I first started coming here. The service is always so good here and the servers are attentive which is great. Before I would come for lunch a lot. I love the lunch specials here because it is such a great deal with the amount of food you get. I must....always have to order the baby King Kong! My all time favorite. Love the flavor of it...creamy, sweet & spicy and some crunch! The sushi rolls are solid as well. So many good rolls to choose from. I like the yaki udon. It's udon noodles stir fried with your choice of protein and veggies. I liked it before when there was some sweetness to it, but it looks like the recipe changed a bit and it is a bit more savory now. The tempura udon can definitely hit the spot on a cold night with its warm broth. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Wow-living on the East Coast, on the ocean, I did not expect to find the best sushi place in Carol Stream, Illinois--so far from the ocean. Loved the jazz music and comfy private booths. Our waitress was attentive and refilled my water glass frequently after a long, dehydrating flight. I ordered the BEST Calamari platter and am so glad I did. I've never experienced calamari cooked so tenderly like this before. It was amazing! Also, I was delighted to learn that they don't use dairy in any of their cooking. On the East Coast, for some reason a lot of the ginger salad dressings have dairy in them... Not here. I've never had anything like the seasoning with the charred vegetables before. I think it was the contrast of the vegetables with all the other sauces and flavors I was enjoying. They really drove home how adventurous of a tasting platter it was... The sweetness of the tempura dipping sauce, the bite of the wasabi, the umami of the miso soup, the earthiness of the veggies and the contrasts in crunch of the tempura with melt-in-your-mouth sushi over rice. Wow!! The salmon in particular had that luscious mouth feel. If I lived here and came regularly I might order 4 orders of sake sashimi based on the piece I enjoyed last night. read more

Gross.. the sushi was not good. We ordered California rolls and one speciality roll. Took over 25 min to get the California rolls. The specialty roll was inedible. I left the whole specialty roll on the plate and told them I couldn't eat it and the reason and they still charged me full price. This was our first time here and very much our last! Stopped by this little gem in Carol Stream for lunch and it was such a pleasant surprise! Cute little place, staff was so friendly and sushi was fresh! We got the sashimi lunch special and it came with miso soup, a little house salad, a California roll, 4 pieces of chef selection sushi and about 6 pieces of sashimi and a small bowl of rice. We visited Kinta on a whim tonight because it was on our drive home and what an amazing experience! The service was so nice - immediately seated, quick service, complimentary soup and salad for everyone at the table, and special chopsticks for the kids. The food was fresh and amazing portions (the bento box was such a good deal!) and overall for a family of four with drinks appetizers we walked away under $100! Fillers - Feedback for the Restaurant I'll get right to the point. I ordered 4 simple sushi rolls (Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Spicy Scallop, and a Philadelphia roll). These types of simple rolls usually only have a couple ingredients: the fish being one of them then the rice, maybe a seaweed wrap, cucumber, and the spicy sauce. Even with the other ingredients, you usually get enough of the fish that you taste it. I always order these first because they are so simple if they don't do these right then nothing else will be done correctly. There was almost no fish at all. It was filled with so much rice and cucumber and the fish was barely there. I've included many pictures to show this. I know that times are tough and prices have gone up, and I do my best to support local / small businesses, but don't sacrifice the quality. I pay around the same amount at other places for the same rolls and get much more fish. This looks like they are cutting corners to save money. Even the miso soup was really watered down. Honestly, I would rather pay an extra dollar per roll for them to be made normally, with the right amount of fish. Don't try to save money at your customers expense. This put a bad taste in my mouth and now I'll probably never return. read more

Kinta Sushi has one of those unassuming store fronts since it's tucked away in a small strip mall next to a convenient store and Chinese buffet, but they're actually pretty legit. We came in on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty, so it seems to be more of a take out spot. The portions are fairly generous at the price point and we've always had a good experience. All the servers are always hustling and make sure drinks are always topped off and the food comes out quickly. As someone with a more Americanized palate who doesn't typically eat more traditional sashimi/nigiri, I usually stick to the deep-fried specialty rolls. The King Kong and Miami rolls are my personal favorites. The other rolls our group usually recommends are the Cry Cry, Love Love, and Atlantic rolls. Overall, Kinta is a super reliable, local sushi spot. They are a small business with hard-working employees so I'd recommend to give them a shot. read more

The most friendly staff I have ever encountered. The quality of sushi is always top tier and the price matches. Dining in is always comfortable and clean. Presentation is nice and a fair mix of traditional and modern twists. I also frequently pick up to go and they have never missed a thing in my orders. Their lunch special portions are crazy. It's huge. Every time I get lunch here, I am always in a food coma. Their ginger salad dressing is creamy, balanced between salty and sweet and then it has subtle hints of citrus. Tempura: comes with 2 shrimps, onion ring, sweet potato, green bean and zucchini. There's a good, light crunch on the batter. Even eating this, miso soup, and salad can fill you up a little. Calamari: has a good sear on the outside. Calamari is tender and not chewy. Kinta Sushi has been my favorite sushi place of all time for years now. I've been coming here since 2006 I believe and have been a loyal customer until I moved to another state. But whenever I come back to visit I ALWAYS ALWAYS come back to Kinta. I haven't been to the Chicago in over a year and wanted to see if Kinta Sushi was still the same.. let's say IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. We got the Miami roll, M-80, original dragon, double salmon, and salmon nigiri. All of it was so yum!! My favorite is the Miami roll, it's a deep fried roll with tempura shrimp cream cheese and avocado and it's topped with some crunch. It is to die for!! Literally my favorite roll. The original dragon is the usual eel topped with a crunch- delicious !! Great unexpected place in a strip mall that pleasantly gets 2 thumbs up! The sushi was superb and the servers sweet and attentive. Some days I would like to just dine here slowly and enjoy my warm saki and do find that I am overly attended to by the staff. I don't think it is the servers fault to be overly attentive but yet the management pressing them to be. I would go here more if I knew I would not feel so pressured to be finished so quickly.
