I went here for dinner after being recommended by many people but was extremely disappointed. The sushi AYCE was mediocre and nothing remarkable. They were extremely busy to be fair but I don't think it excuses certain things. We had to wait 40+ minutes for our second round. I don't feel like they checked the quality of their fish. The raw salmon and tuna had a strange taste. Upon smelling it, it had a fishy odor and ammonia smell. And the color was off. They did not charge us for that but we got no apology or offer to rectify the situation as if it were a crime for us to bring up the quality of their food because they were busy. I threw up everything shortly after because I felt so sick. I don't recommend this place and I think the people who work there are rude and think being busy is an excuse to provide lousy food and service. read more

I like Abashiri. Abashiri is a restaurant that definitely got me through Covid. I ordered from them religiously during the lockdown and the food was delicious. I don't normally do their sushis, so I can't comment on those. I normally get their dinner sets. My favorite is the salmon teriyaki with tempura. It has a lot of variety and decent portions. The price is very reasonably priced. I still haven't gone inside the restaurant, so I can't comment on their ambiance or service, but the delivery packaging has always been good. Two visits with a group of hungry friends and we all decided to go for the AYCE - all you can eat - but the experience devolved into a laughable Pythonesque experience. They close at 10.00pm Friday and Saturday- and yet by 9.00pm We started being harassed by the waitresses who made it quite clear they wanted us out and to hurry up and argued that they wouldn't bring us any more food.... How very pleasant (!) Then (because I lived in Japan for some time) when I finally went up to the counter to settle the check for us all, I quickly discovered they all pretended to be Japanese - but are really Korean and don't speak or understand a lick of Nihongo. Not a big deal right? But they attempted to convince me that I didn't know what I was talking about. An incredible experience overall! Every single bite was delicious, with the flavors nicely balanced between salty and sweet and savory. The Vegetable Tempura Roll was fresh, generous in size, and the tempura vegetables themselves perfectly crispy. The Crunchy Tofu Salad was dressed in a sweet orange sauce, and the deep-fried tofu cubes soaked up the dressing for a satisfyingly flavorful bite. The service was absolutely outstanding. Each employee was incredibly friendly, welcoming, attentive and accommodating. Our food came out very quickly. The energy was always positive despite it being busy (for a Monday night!) and it made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. This has quickly become my 'go to' place for sushi. I've had quite a variety of their rolls, and everything was quite good! In-person dining is best described as intimate owing to the small size of the restaurant. If you're claustrophobic, this might be off putting. Seems clean; a bit heavy on dark wood. Service was efficient, though the woman that served our table during my first visit seemed overwhelmed (I believe she was the sole server). Poor thing! My preference is to order for takeout so I can pig out in private at home. If you love the spicy kick of wasabi as I do, don't hesitate to ask for extra--they'll readily compliment your order with more. Overall, good quality sushi in terms of sizes of the rolls and taste, at price points that won't cause considerable angst. I can, and do, recommend Abishari with great ease. read more

We ordered 6 rolls with all you can eat (for 2 people) and after waiting a long time only 4 rolls came out... no explanation on which rolls were which. We asked if we had 2 more rolls coming and they all had no idea what rolls were missing. Had to re-order more rolls which took 45 mins to come out. No wasabi or ginger either time. Then we inhaled the rolls because we'd be sitting at the restaurant for so long, we wanted to leave. When we ask for the bill, they help 2 delivery pickups first, then clean some tables, THEN bring us the bill. We paid in cash because god knows how long we would've had to wait to get the card ran. I literally never not tip because I've worked as a server for years but this time we left $6. And $6 was too much for the service level. (Also, the way the sushi was prepared was so slapped together. If you are a sushi lover, this is the place for you! We got the AYCE and absolutely loved it! The rolls were the perfect size. Sometimes with AYCE, places will add to much rice, but not Abashiri. The ingredients they use are fresh and savory. There are so many rolls to choose from and they put pictures of the rolls on their menu, which is super helpful when trying to decide which rolls to order. This is the best AYCE sushi spot in all of Illinois. I always come here with my friends and family, and this place never disappoints. What I love about this place is the rice to fish ratio (normally AYCE sushi places jam pack the rolls with enormous amounts of rice, but this place does thin layers of rice). This is our first time at this location since the COVID-19. The restaurant has an average size for small groups 2 to 8 people. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have buffet sushi during the week days, not the weekend. I'm glad they found the room for our group, more than 15 people next door. My guess the owner just modify a gym studio to a 2nd room for the restaurant. Still under construction. The sushi were fresh and delicious. One of the best in the burbs! Went to dinner tonight and surprisingly, got a table right away though the place is packed. I ordered beef steak teriyaki and the beef was tender. It came with a bowl of rice, salad and fruit. They had AYCE and my husband and son got it. Spicy tuna was fresh and flavorful. Still the best AYCE near us and visit at least once a month. The quality never disappoints. Everything is always fresh and delightful. You also get edamame, pot stickers, salad and gyozas as part of the AYCE. It's not displayed but you can ask for it. The best part is the hubby and I will go planning on doing AYCE but if our order is under the amount of AYCE they won't charge us the AYCE price, but only for the rolls we ate even if we order off the AYCE menu. Small but a good find! Easily found right off Lake St. in Bloomingdale in a shopping plaza - driven by here a million times but finally stopped in. The restaurant is a bit tucked away and unassuming but the food was great. The AYCE sushi is so worth it! We ordered 3 rounds of sushi and we were so full by the end. I will knock off one star, because we ordered the same roll twice and they seemed to have different textures and flavors, so it seems like the consistency of the rolls are a bit off.
