I've been a regular at Tsunami Sushi, but after what I saw, I honestly won't be going back. At another location owned by the same people, I witnessed someone sitting with their bare feet on the counter and moving around the food/work area. Later I saw the same person at this restaurant, and a staff member confirmed he's related to the owners. It's extremely unsanitary and unacceptable for a food business. I skipped the all-you-can-eat sushi menu since I don't usually eat that much sushi for lunch. The food was decent, but I didn't particularly enjoy the spicy tuna roll. It was just okay, and I've had better. The rice was falling apart, which was disappointing. They presented their entrees on large plates to make them look more substantial, but the portions were small. They gave me half a mackerel filet, which was disappointing since I've been to places that serve the whole fish. The salmon filet was cut in half and served in a small portion. I had the option to choose between rice or salad, but I couldn't have both or pay for the side. Rice and salad are the cheapest sides to include, so it's not fair to charge extra for them. Celebrated a birthday here today with high hopes since a friend recommended the place. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. Ambiance: Cozy and casual. We came early and waited about 20 minutes even though the place was empty -- they seemed to still be preparing to open. Service: Splendid. The staff were friendly, and our food was served quickly. That was definitely the highlight of the experience. Food: You can order three dishes per person, which sounded like a great deal at first, but the food itself was disappointing. The sushi had too much rice compared to the fillings. Flavors were generally bland and forgettable -- not something that would make us want to come back, especially for the price. Miso soup didn't taste authentic. Grilled Hamachi kama and takoyaki were both very bland. The baked sushi had way too much rice; I honestly felt nauseated after a few bites. We reordered the spider roll because the first one was okay -- crisp and nicely balanced. Unfortunately, the second serving was soggy with sauce, had very little soft-shell crab, and tasted off. The nachos were a mistake -- not appetizing, and the chips broke easily. My kid compared them to cafeteria nachos, which says a lot. Drinks: Nothing special. By far, one of my favorite AYCE sushi in the area. I am a regular customer along with my family (there's 14 of us). The staff is really friendly and accommodating and when there's a large group of us. We usually come here for a special event like birthdays, and it never disappoints. A friend and I were looking for late night sushi on a Wednesday night and we saw that ST is open til 10p. Parking lot is well lit, and even stylish with vertical light bars. Due to our timing, there was plenty of parking available. Upon entry, we were greeted and advised that although AYCE ordering would close in 30mins, we could still choose to have that dining option if we desired. We were just looking to have a small order so we opted for a la carte. We had the Lion King, a Tempura Roll, a Tuna roll, and miso soup. Everything was delicious and arrived quickly. We enjoyed it very much and decided we have to come back at an earlier time to take advantage of the AYCE menu. Which is pretty extensive for the price! Side note, for some reason I really really loved their ginger! Not a lot of people like the powerful taste of ginger but for all the ginger fans, I just have to say you're in for a treat! The taste was so powerful, fresh, and clean! I felt so refreshed with every little sliver. We ate all our dishes but I kept sampling the ginger. The ginger was so amazing I had to ask if I could have some to take home, and to my Joy, they were happy to oblige. It was so good, that it literally put other sushi ginger to shame. Not to be too gross, but I actually had sushi again at another place a couple days later, and their ginger tasted like wet socks in comparison. The mixed tempura looked great. When I bit into it it was not crisp. It was greasy :( This made me feel sad because I was really looking forward to it. I came to Sushi Tsunami with a party of 7 at 6pm on a Thursday, and we were seated promptly. It's pretty dim inside, and a little cramped but clean overall. We opted for the all you can eat menu that included some of the more premium options. Services was nice, and we were able to find someone to place an order whenever we were looking, and food came out at a reasonable pace. While the quality of the fish was decent, the proportion of fish to rice was pretty skewed - the fish was either a reasonable portion or sliced pretty thin/small, and almost all of the pieces of sushi had too much rice. The rice itself wasn't the best quality, and because it was a little mushy it really quickly got to be too heavy and filling. I definitely recommend the nigiri over the rolls, and enjoyed the salmon, salmon belly, and yellowtail the most. The 49ers roll was pretty good, but the others I would probably skip. The inari filled with poke weren't bad either, but had a large amount of rice and was a little too heavily seasoned for my taste. If you like having a bunch of variety of non sushi items for AYCE sushi, this might be a good option for you, as they had plenty of other dishes that were decent - corn cheese, edamame, takoyaki, wings, bulgogi fries, etc. Overall, for the price I wouldn't say this AYCE experience is worth it for me. I've been here multiple times, and each time my experience here has been below average. Management could improve greatly. It takes forever to find someone to order your food and even longer for the food to come out, and the portions aren't even that great. Because of the long wait time, I tried to order multiple of the same item so I could get everything at once and avoid the wait time. For example, I tried to order 16 pcs of sashimi (before they took it out of the menu), but (who I assume is) the lead server denied me because he was unsure if I could finish it all. Weird because there was actually another server who was more than willing to put in that order for me...until she got flagged down by that same server and was told she couldn't do that anymore. Management needs to improve on the policies because it was extremely inconsistent, causing confusion between employees as well as customers on what quantities we're allowed to order. The description of the menu items aren't consistent either--the menu says one thing but another thing comes out. I ordered ceviche thinking I would get a traditional ceviche dish. The menu even had a photo of the traditional ceviche dish. Tell me why they came out with sashimi topped with green onion. On another instance, my brother ordered a sushi burrito thinking it would be wrapped in seaweed. Nope. It was wrapped in a tortilla. Don't get me wrong, the food is good; the raw fish is fresh and high quality, but until they improve on management, portions, and wait times, I won't be returning to this place anymore. read more

I went with some friends on Valentine's Day and we were fine waiting but what wasn't fine was how the host couldn't properly sit people. There were a lot of empty tables at one point and they kept seating parties of 2 at tables meant for 4 people when there were two open tables that seated parties of 2 empty for most of the time we were waiting. When my friend finally complained about the seating issues we were seated right away and aside from Amari none of the other waiters came to our table to take our orders even after Amari asked if they had. I understand a holiday is going to be busy but they were all running around like they didn't know how to handle a busy night, when it was slow the other time I went everything was great. Food as usual was delicious but to that male server with the glasses he needs to do better cause it seemed like after we were seated he told everyone else to avoid our table. Great spot for all you can eat sushi if you like nigiri and rolls. There are 3 tiers of meal options ranging in price, the more expensive tier the more options you have. The second tier is $40 and the most bang for your buck, as you can order most nigiri and rolls, which are typically expensive items. The food is pretty good, obviously for the price it isn't amazing but it's fresh and tasty. The yuzu hamachi and Cajun salmon nigiri were standouts for me. The rainbow roll and lion king roll were well prepared. The potato croquettes and nachos were also very good. It's a newer restaurant so the interior is quite nice. The service is also really great, both times I've been here the servers were attentive and kind, checking in a couple times to see if we wanted to order more food. Deduct half star here Service- It was not bad of a wait, I would estimate average of 5 mins you'll get your food after placing the order. Course B is where you really get the most bang for your buck for the nigiri alone. All the fish we ate was superb and fresh. I love that the nigiri comes with very little rice. We get full fast on rice, but this was the perfect amount. Keep track on what items are only one per person. I was bummed out to find out some things that I ordered multiple for are now only one to a person. Don't knock the rolls that are made from rice paper. I can't remember which one I had, but it was refreshing and a good palette cleanser. This is a perfect place for those who eat a mixture of things from raw to cooked. This was our second time coming here, and we were excited since our first visit was really good. Unfortunately, our experience this time around was very different. It took quite a while for our server to take our order, and the food also took longer than expected to come out. Normally we'd understand if the restaurant was busy, but we came on a Wednesday night and there were only four other tables seated. My husband and I usually order nigiri and hand rolls. When I ordered the salmon skin hand roll, I ended up biting into something sharp that scratched the inside of my mouth. I spat it out immediately, thinking it was something from the salmon, but it turned out to be a small, hard, metal-like piece (was a dark grey metal shard - like a needle). We got our server's attention, and they apologized and remade the hand roll. When I asked what the object was, they said it might have been something used while cleaning the fish. I wish I took a picture, but I was really shocked, confused, and glad I spit it out. I can't imagine what would have happened if I swallowed it! My granddaughter had knee surgery today so my wife and I decided to take her out for her favorite meal last night. When we walked in the door and told the hostess that my granddaughter and I wanted the all you can eat meal and my 72 year old wife wanted to order a meal from the kitchen problems started. She went over and whispered in the ear of the manager and explained the situation to him and he forbid us from dining under those circumstances. We were informed that because my wife was not getting an all you can eat meal she could not be served because "people steal off of the plates" We explained that we were not thieves, and had a restaurant of our, and just wanted to have a family outing. The waitress went over and had another top level conversation with the manager, who once again upheld his earlier ruling. After deep negotiations it was finally decided that my wife would have to sit at another table while my 13 year old granddaughter and I dined separately. It would have been different if we had ordered 2 all you can eat meals and the 3rd person didn't order anything, but she ordered a full meal for herself, and had no need to steal food from us. To top it off, we had not traveled one block from the place when she vomited everything up. Will not go back to that place again. Treated like thieves when we walked through the door, family dinner destroyed, and onto it all off my wife gave very large tips on both checks , (just to show that we have no need to steal food) I wouldn't have tipped a dime! read more

It was my first time here, and I've been to plenty of AYCE sushi spots so I understand that sometimes places use a bit more rice or filler to make the rolls more filling. But this was honestly a little overboard. I actually pulled out my phone to take a picture because the rolls were that unbalanced. We had a few rolls before the unagi roll came out, and we already felt like the fish-to-rice ratio was off. We even asked one of the servers if they could reduce the amount of rice in the next round, but he said no. When the unagi roll arrived though, the whole table laughed because it looked like we ordered a rice roll with a side of fish instead of the other way around (look at the pics yourself!). My friend even joked that they put even more rice on the rolls just because we had asked for less. We honestly didn't think it was too big of a deal as we could have just taken some rice off the sushi roll ourselves, so we left some excess on the plate for them to take. However, one of the waitresses said they cannot clear a plate off the table unless it was completely empty (no excess rice). On the positive side, the service was friendly. Since we were a party of about 10 people, they seated us in the large private room and were very attentive. The ambience inside was nice and I liked the decor. The outside is a little sketchy since it's right off a busy street, but once you're inside, it feels much better. I understand if you do the all you can eat there the whole table has to do it(meaning all adults/kids eating) but if we're there with two kids that are under 8 that's not eating you shouldn't have to pay for them just to sit there. Tsunami Sushi is one of my favorite sushi buffets in the area! I love how they have a wide variety of dishes other than sushi you can order! It's a sit down restaurant, so your waiter will come to your table and take your order and bring your food to you which is convenient. My favorite orders at this buffet are the lemon sushi, takoyaki, and salmon nigiri's. The ambiance at this place is quite nice too. It's a dimly lit and the way the food is presented makes this place seem very high end. The only complaint I have is that you can only order 3 items at a time per person, so if you're ordering something of small quantity like nigiri's, it will come out slowly. read more
