The dynamite spice is perfect if you're someone who enjoys spice. If you don't know already, they do make you pay immediately after ordering so be prepared for that! I went with my husband and brother for dinner and ordered Cajun fries with lemon pepper seasoning, combo 1 with atomic medium sauce and an extra 1 lb of shrimp. Our server took our order first on an iPad and we paid before we ate. The Cajun fries with lemon pepper seasoning was seasoned perfectly. It had a kick of spice with citrusy flavor. For our combo 1, we chose 2 lbs of shrimp with head on, which also came with potatoes, corn, and sausages. We got an extra lb of shrimp with head on with a spicier level. We enjoyed our meal with rice. The rice was cooked a bit softer than I liked, but it was still good to soak up the sauce. There is a good amount of seating inside of the restaurant. It seems a bit smaller relative to the Vallejo location. There were some flies when we walked in and the ladies bathroom stank like there was a plumbing issue. My friend said she always wanted to try a seafood boil so we dined at this location. We arrived a little after 12pm on a Saturday and were the first ones there. The servers were nice and let us pick where we wanted to sit. Ordering was easy, she picked king crab with shrimp and I got the snow crab with shrimp. Both ordered with garlic butter sauce, mild. I'm not a big fan of sausages, so they let me swap it out for more corn. The food was delicious, but I feel like there was a bit too much garlic. The shrimp was big and juicy and the corn and potatoes were cooked to perfection. There was so much food that we both had leftovers to take home. The sign outside the building was a bit confusing. It has both Mel's Diner and Bag O' Crab on the same building. We walked into Mel's all confused. Make sure you pick the right door to enter if you're not familiar with the area. Also, you have to pay after you order. It's a little weird because I like to leave tip depending on how well my service was. Being that this is the only seafood boil place in Fairfield, it's not bad! My family and I have eaten here a couple times throughout the years and we like it a lot. It's always pretty clean in there and I have no complaints with the service. The only thing that is different than usual is that they have you pay and tip right after you order and before you get your food. I also wish they can put your seafood boil in a bowl or on a tray instead of a bag so it's easier to eat. I usually order a Combo #2, atomic flavor, and medium spice. We decided to check out this restaurant as we were leaving yesterday since the game was on. We came to visit Fairfield for an event and stayed at the Hilton located in the same parking lot as this restaurant. We were greeted when we walked in considering it was a little busy and There were only two people working the time to get seated and serviced was a bit extended, but nothing to complain about. I didn't do a mini preview of the restaurant on yelp and saw that on average it acquired 3.3 stars, I specifically did not look at what was the reviews that led to that type of rating. I wanted to give this place a fair shot on my own. I ordered garlic noodles and a six piece order of lemon pepper wings. I will say the garlic noodles are the best noodles I've tasted in a long time. My only complaint though is, I don't understand why you can't add on shrimp or another meat choice that is also listed as an add-on for other things. That didn't make any sense to me, but I didn't feel like arguing about it. I was still pleased with the noodles . The lemon pepper wings were cooked extra crispy as I requested however, I'm glad I do not have sodium issues because they were way over seasoned. I have to be honest about that. They were just OK. I think that should be a suggestion for the future to not over season fluid in general, but especially the wings. My friend ordered a bag of crab with the Louisiana flavor for seasoning. She seemed pleased and my other friend ordered a shrimp Poboy sandwich and she seemed pleased as well. I feel that when it comes to seating, considering it wasn't busy there should not have been a limitation on where people could sit since there were a great amount of tables that were empty. I noticed that from the patrons that came in after us who literally ended up sitting where we were, which was not a problem. This is a restaurant I would bring the family to on a random if I just so happen to be out in Fairfield, but most likely I will be doing a to go order if I do come back here for the garlic noodles only. I'm giving this restaurant four out of five stars because of the add-on issue regarding the shrimp only I feel that should be an option since it's an item that can be used as a side to a crab bag. read more

First time going here with my girlfriend's family. We got the 1 pound shrimp and clams with atomic medium spice. Great seasoning and little oily. Fresh seafood and perfect kick of spice. We also got the fried oysters basket. Fresh and perfect batter. Cajun fries is a 3/10 not enough Cajun seasoning and fries were a little soggy. We got the swai fish also, very fresh and tasty. Lots of garlic in the sauce but it also seemed "watered down" like it needed more actual seasoning. As for the food and portion, it was freshly made and decent enough. I hate to resort to writing a bad review here, but have tried since November to receive follow up on our meal! We ordered 3 lobster dinners and then our waiter came back and said she'd have to check availability! Then told only 2 lobsters were available & had us pay up front! Then, she returned again and said the 2 lobsters were dead and spoiled! Offered 2 lobster tails instead. We had never been here before, so had no idea the meal would be jumbled in a bag-would be nice if wait staff would ask if we'd been here previously. Then, asked for a knife to take corn off the cob (I have braces) and offered a crab cracker to perform this task! The lobster tails were rubbery and before we could complain, noticed our waiter slinking out the front door never to return! We would never have tipped up front! Asked about bread from counter staff, who were on their phone, and had to explain our experience so far to not be charged more! After reluctantly reminding us that there is an 18% automatic charge on parties of 6+ after this was made apparent to us by the hostess, the male server with brown hair tied back, took our order. We ordered a combo 1 with "On Fire" spiciness. After reconfirming with us 3 times with 3 different people saying "On Fire" spiciness, he put the order in just for it to come out with "No Spice" 15min later. When we brought this up to him, he proceeded to tell us "you ordered no spice, that's what I heard," raising his voice in disbelief. Not only did he dismiss what we were telling him, he exclaimed "no spice, that's what I heard,!" He raised his voice further. We then reiterated we said ON FIRE and didn't say anything different. He then exclaimed louder, "I CHECKE D THREE TIMES, BUT THE THIRD TIME YOU SAID NO SPICE!?!" I took the receipt and showed him exactly what was on the ticket THAT HE INPUTTED which explicitly said "COMBO 1...ON FIRE" It could have been a simple interaction if he had just read the receipt that HE printed out from the POS system. Let me reiterate, he chose to prove the customer wrong, when he IN FACT caused the PROBLEM. Very unprofessional even if he might have been a new server. He proceeded to take the receipt back, and didn't even give it back to us after sorting out the mishap with his supervisor. Luckily the food came back correct after an additional 10-12min. It comes down to basic human decency to double check if you made a mistake before trying to argue that someone else, especially the customer, was at fault. read more

When I went yesterday they now implemented a QR code ordering system from 39miles and now you can order and pay directly from your phone. Service is okay, the last few times they haven't been very attentive. The food has been relatively consistent, the shrimp is usually cooked perfectly and I usually get the spiciest option. Although in the past when I've ordered the lemon pepper wings it's been a hit or miss. It's been either too salty or under seasoned. I've frequented this location several times, but usually for pick up. I can say that pick up orders have always been prepared accurately and ready on time. I really like that they text you when your order is ready as well rather than having to go in and check. If you're getting one of the sea food bags, they double bag them so the greasy sauce doesn't get on everything. My group of 4 decided to dine in last night. They only had a couple other tables filled, so we were seated right away. The waitress was really nice but after we ordered she told us it's their policy to make all customers prepay. We asked when they started this policy and she said because of Covid but not sure how that even relates. I have never prepaid for a pick up order, so why do customers dining in have to prepay? The wings are battered but it's a thin crunchy batter that is seasoned to perfection. My pet peeve is when lemon pepper wings aren't lemony but these do the name justice. For some extra zest, squeeze a little more lemon on the wings then dip them in ranch. Garlic fries will get your breath hot and garlicky but it's so worth it. Their fries come out HOT and they top this with hellaaa garlic. They only give one cup of ketchup when they should really give 2 but that's okay. You can customize your bag or do one of their combos for more bang for your buck if you want more than one type of seafood. I only get the shrimp here in Atomic Sauce so can't speak for any other flavor. ,I've had the range of spice levels from Medium, Dynamite and On Fire, and I'd probably stick with Dynamite. Medium isn't spicy enough, but On Fire is a little spicier than I'd like for my meal. The heat sneaks up on you, especially since the shrimp comes out super hot. I felt like there was a little bitterness to the On Fire sauce as well that I never taste with the other two spice levels, so not sure if that's the usual because of the added spiciness or what. I love love love to squeeze lemons into my sauce bag because the acidity cuts through all that butter! I really wish they gave big bowls to pour your boil out into like other places, but it's workable. Seafood is sold by pound only. They do not do half pounds, (we asked!). They have a list of add ons for your bag like potatoes, sausage, and boiled egg. Side Note- This location only gives plastic to go bags. Other locations I've visited have given reusable tote bags that are super cute and handy to reuse. Also, they do not automatically include condiments (ketchup, ranch) if you order to go so make sure you ask. As a returning customer/patron, I was excited to bring my family here to eat some good food and introduce them to a new seafood boil restaurant they've never been to. We were seated, and for the most part our arrival and settling in to our seats was normal, standard. This unfortunately went down extremely quick. We were immediately asked to pay right after ordering, including tip (which personally I feel like that's awkward considering we haven't experienced the service or ate the food yet). I ordered a dozen raw oysters which I had to walk up to the counter to ask and order for. They came out and weren't fresh, warm to the touch even though it sat on a bed of ice. Our server after delivering our food, helped us with nothing else. I was constantly walking to the counter trying to ask for lemons, in which he actually pointed to the bucket and instructed that I can grab them myself. Who does this? Very disappointing and I feel like I wasted my money and time trying to dine at this restaurant. First off we had to pay upfront and tip upfront for food that we had not received on our table just yet. It was a little strange, but we went with it. The food is all reasonably priced, and when we received our food, it was piping hot, which was great. But the spice wasn't there for the seasoning in the bags of shrimp and lobster tail. We've had other places that had more spice in it, which is what we like. But it did have good seasoning just wasn't as hot (spice wise) as we would've liked. The service was good and quit. it is worth checking out but spicy is not spicy as you would think. Try Getting it two steps up from what you think you want.
