There's so much to say about this place so let's just jump in with sushi. Sushi had good presentation & flavor. Fresh. Selection was ok - a lot of deep fried rolls with lots of sauces. Only cheap plate was the edamame. Would have liked to see more cheap plates & definitely more sushi & sashimi. Location was easy to get to, plenty of parking and with a conveyor belt, once you're seated, there's no wait for food. Server was good. Young & inexperienced, but considerate. :) He checked on us regularly & kept our water glasses full. I really don't know why people give them bunch of stars? If you really know the quality of sushi, you will not love this place. (I think their friends are giving them nice reviews) haha. First of all, all the sushi on the conveyor belt were NOT fresh at all also only 15 plates were on there. Those fried rolls were all soggy prob made them long time ago.I ordered Ikura and they were way smaller than actual size. Over priced for cheap stuff like edamame was all dried and amount they give you is only little bit. Sushi chefs (Asian man and woman) are not friendly at all. A kid made loud sound once and this chef looks back at him and give him mean face. I totally didn't enjoy at all. Plates were dirty, conveyor belt was sticky, everything was horrible. The food was delicious and fresh! I don't consider myself a conveyor belt sushi connoisseur but I've been to a few in my time and I will say that everything was top notch! The music selection by Amy also exceeded my expectation. Good Vibes and great customer service. Amy checked on us so frequently that I didn't have to go out of my way to get their attention for my additional drinks and orders. I recommend anything nigiri! Make sure you pair with a tall glass of beer. Also they keep their Sapporo beer glasses ice cold which makes drinking beer much more satisfying than it already is. 10/10 would recommend. "Yikes" is the best word to describe this place. I was craving sushi and my spouse and I were in the area so we decided to try this spot even though the reviews weren't so great. The concept of a sushi train sounds awesome, but the actuality of it was not so good. We quickly realized that even though sushi/food were readily available, they didn't look fresh. It looked as if they've been sitting there for a while which would make sense since there weren't a lot of customers. They did have a special of 99cents per beer which attracted my spouse, but you had to spend at least $10. We thought that that would be easy but nope. The server was nice and attentive enough. He brought us miso soup as soon as we sat down. Now I love miso soup and I thought there could be no way that people could ruin such a simple soup. False. It tasted old or as if something has been sitting there a while. The tofu tasted disgusting. and I love tofu! Then for the beer, our server wasn't of age so my spouse did have to get up and get a beer from the fridge (not too bad). When we finally gathered up the courage to pick up a plate with two pieces of sushi, it was overloaded with sauce and not fresh. I waited to see if any of the sushi won't have any sauce. None of them. NONE. So if you're into sauce, cool. If you're like me and can do without sauce, stay away from this place. If you're trying to find a good sushi spot, this is a top contender. The prices for the sushi here is cheaper compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. They have a great selection of deep fried & cooked sushi rolls. They also have delicious deep fried salmon called Salmon Poppers. The deep fried ice cream is a must! It is just enough for two. The only downfall is that it's a small restaurant with only three booths and a limited amount of seating at the counter with the conveyor belt. It's delicious, they're very attentive, and they have beer specials on Friday and Saturday. Run by a small staff, they're continuously running around helping people. Depending on the day, you can get a plethora of different desserts if you really want them. The mussels are REALLY delicious. We always order two orders but end up taking some of the extra they make. (It takes ten minutes to cook them, so be patient.) They aren't open on Sundays but they're totally worth trying when they are open. read more

This is a great place to go with kids. You can get exactly the right amount of food and the price is right. This is not high-end sushi. Almost every roll is filled with imitation crab. What I got from Sushi Train was not quite mind numbing... in fact it was actually throat numbing. I don't know how it happened, but soon after a dining on a few plates from the train some weren't feeling well and my throat was strangely numb. I don't know what would have done it, and I'm assuming ambesol isn't a secret ingredient... so I'm left a little clueless. It tasted pretty good when we were there, but the end result didn't pan out. There's a huge sign outside the restaurant that says all rolls are $1.50. FALSE. Only rolls on the red (or whatever color) plates are $1.50. To make matters worse, the $1.50 rolls only had two or three pieces. So yeah, in theory $1.50 rolls are cheap, but in practice you have to order 3 or 4 of them to comprise one actual entire roll. Most of my plates were either $2 or $3 and they all had tiny, tiny portions. The quality of the fish was satisfactory and the service was fine. I love sushi. I do not love Sushi Train. Not one bit. A group of seven of us came in around 7:30, post workout and super hungry. We waited a few minutes for seats to be cleared and then were seated. The seats were fine. I ordered a bowl of rice for my kiddo. She was happy with it (I mean, it's rice...). And then we waited, and waited, and waited some more for something to come down the line that didn't contain artificial crab. I got a spicy tuna roll... I was the only one to get a roll that did not have artificial crab. We all started ordering off the menu because nothing was coming out except sauce-laden rolls, chocolate chip cooks and edamame. I got a seaweed salad and it was literally two bites. The spicy tuna hand roll was standard. Not as spicy as I'd like. I ordered a salmon skin hand roll and had to ask twice for it. And it would have been amazing had it not been drenched in sauce! There was no sauce in the picture! And no description saying the lovely, delicious crispy skin would be ruined by some disgustingly sweet sauce. Everyone in the party had issues with getting things ordered off the menu. Having to ask two or three times is unacceptable really. Service was bad. Food wasn't great. Sashimi would've been awesome but maybe that's asking a bit much. The only good things... Visited Sushi Train a couple weeks ago before a movie at the Regal. This location is pretty convenient and the hours are great. Upon entering, you see a conveyor belt with tables and booths around it. Dishes of varying colors cascade down the belt, and people take what they want, stacking dishes. My friend and I sat at a bar style table facing the conveyor, and a server approached immediately to ask whether they could get us anything to drink and to explain how the place works. I definitely noticed some people that appeared to be regulars. Started eating right away; my friend is a vegetarian and initially had trouble finding options, but was able to specifically request a few from our server. Service was really fast, and the variety of options here is pretty good. There is a menu to help with identifying dishes, but it wasn't always clear what I was eating. Luckily it was all good! They have a $1.50 a plate deal currently, which is great. Out the door my friend and I each paid less than $15 with tax and tip. Not the best sushi ever but it satisfied my craving and was super convenient! read more

To be fair, had I reviewed Sushi Train a couple months ago, they would have got 4 stars. Their wait service has always been sketchy but the food and fresh sushi had kept us coming back and they had been our go to place for sushi in Lacey. One of the main cooks left now and our last visit was one not to be forgotten. It was around 6pm and I think on a weekend. Barely anything on the belt as we walked in. We did not get asked once for our order for about 15 min. We decided to choose to eat elsewhere that night and as we walked out, we noticed 3 other tables leave behind us. I'm sure we will be back because most of their nigiri was very fresh and the value for their prices are almost unbeatable. They just need to improve 100% on their service. While up here visiting my brother and SIL, they wanted to take me to Sushi Train, because they eat there all the time. I am a little surprised by the negative reviews, because I thought it was pretty good. Perhaps it's the fact we got there right when it opened and everything was super fresh. I loved the fact they had the vegetarian rolls separate from the rest of the rolls - so I didn't have to ask people 'hey, what's in this?' The edamame was cold, which was different, since I've only eaten it warm before. The staff was very nice, and were giving out lots of free samples to my fish eating brother and his friends. Now that they've been open long enough to've fixed their admitted problem with a lack of ingredients when they first opened, I didn't find myself wishing they were able to make things that they simply couldn't. They also had much more variety (and quantity) in what was on the belt. Good for them. The udon was basically great and I am pretty sure that I'll be suckered in to going back just to have a bowl. But the sushi, on conveyor and off, is just too big of a disappointment for it to be a draw, especially with how good Sushi House have gotten at making edible food. It's perhaps easiest to describe the problems with what was on the conveyor: sitting too long, no cycling out of things that have warmed up. The result was a texture, on one roll, that was uncannily like what I'd imagine a pressure-cooked baseball might be like. Yum. I don't know what they were doing wrong with the tempura batter on that one to give it its bizarre toughness and chewy quality; what they were doing wrong with the rice (making it easy to shape but not proper sushi rice) was pretty normal and the soggy nori was the natural outcome of overmoist rice under a dome for a long, long time. The stuff that was fresh was no great thing either, so don't let me give you the impression that it was the cave-aged quality that put me off. It's just harder to explain. Again, the rice is a huge problem, but I don't imagine that that will change. Worse, with the exception of their burdock, none of the ingredients were really worth eating. Under-ripe avocado that's oxidized is as disgusting in taste and texture as color, and there's really no way to be nice about it. I can, however, be nicer about the attention to detail that went into making the individual rolls. You see, I've had sushi like that before, and at a quite upmarket business hotel in Asia. Of course, it was all-you-can-eat, that region is solidly land-locked, and it was in China, not Korea or Japan. And then, I'm pretty sure that the "upmarket business" qualifiers tell you that there was a brothel in the basement, not that the food was any good (although it sometimes was.) So, then, if you're looking to abuse your brain's idea of what good sushi is and don't mind taking a bit of a beating on price and digestibility, you should run to Sushi Train. After all, some people like it. You might be one of them. But it's not very good, and there's nothing really laudable about it. One of the chefs is nice, but his demeanor is offset by the pushy and chaotic nature of one of the women acting as waitress. I just don't see the point. You can spend $5 more per person and get as much food and much better on the other side of town. Why wouldn't you? It's not cheap to begin with, so I really don't see the problem. For conveyor belt sushi, this place is great. I normally only get a few things on the conveyor belt at other places, because I don't want to get too full. I usually order nigiri sushi. Their nigiri sushi was great. The fish was fresh and draped over the rice like it should (so big pieces of fish). While for some people, the $1.50 plates may seem expensive, because there are only two small pieces of a roll, I actually found this as an advantage. You can have a lot more variety of rolls without getting full. If you don't see something on the conveyor belt that you want to try, just ask, and they'll make it for you - and it's still $1.50 (and still two pieces). I will definitely go back. They even have uni (delivered on Wednesdays or Thursdays). There has been an uni shortage this year (it's my favorite, so I seek it out whenever I can). They had east coast uni, but it was very fresh, and they give you a decent amount for the price. As far as pricing, I was completely full when I left and only spent about $20, this was including ordering five nigiri plates... My friends who ate rolls only (and cheesecake) spent $20 between the two of them, and we were all full. This place also has a couple booths, which is nice if you want some privacy. When we got there around noon on a Saturday, we were the only people there, watching the same pieces of floppy rolls drenched in various sauces go by, over and over again. I don't like imitation crab meat, and since all of the conveyor belt-available rolls were stuffed with it, I ordered some nigiri and udon off the menu. The udon was good and a bargain at $3, but the rice used in the sushi was soggy and tasteless -- definitely not good. We bid farewell to our old friends, the perpetually uneaten Krab rolls to which we had become acquainted over the past hour, and disembarked the sadly empty train. read more

If we've seated ourselves and you're busy, let us know you'll be over soon. - Ask us if we want a drink, or provide us a way to get our own. 2. Help me spend money at your establishment: Give me an idea of what you expect. You've got a menu... how do I get some of the stuff on that menu? The hostess/waitress/one girl you have in the dining area? The chef who stands in the center and always looks busy? - Provide instructions, whether verbally or on the menu, on how we can order things. 3. You've got the decorations, now create the environment: I've been witness to many awkward conversations between restaurant staff, usually about each other. One way or another, the problem common in all threads here is service. Staff is too tight, too busy, or too depressed/angsty to provide service. Come on Sushi Train, you can do better. If you deal with your angst and help customers settle in and begin participating, this could be a great place. Right now it's OK, and some days less so. Husband and I have been to several different conveyor-belt sushi restaurants from Seattle to Olympia. Sushi Train is definitely one of the better ones out there. The sushi is always fresh when we go in, no matter what time of day or night. The chefs are friendly and helpful. And the sushi is so good. Our favorites are the Las Vegas roll, Heart Attack roll and the Montana Roll (a gi-normous sushi that is stuffed in a mushroom then deep fried - sounds weird, but it's really good). The only thing I don't understand is why every time we go there, the place is nearly empty. This last time we went we were the only ones there. I cannot believe this place exists! The sushi plates run from $1-$3.50. They are smaller servings but even if you priced them out as full size they are still significantly cheaper!
