Octopus Nigiri & Cracker Roll with fried potato strings on the side

It was my first time trying Aya Sushi out & I'm so sad I didn't find this place sooner! Absolutely amazing, my new favorite spot. We got the miso soup, octopus nigiri, & the cracker roll with the fried potato strings on the side. The roll was definitely one of the best rolls if not the best roll I've ever had. We'll definitely be back soon & I'll be telling everyone I know about this place The service was amazing they were so sweet. I wish we could've gotten a bit more water but besides that no big deal & everything was awesome. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful & fun plating as well as a very calm atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Our new go-to sushi spot. Caterpillar roll and salmon sashimi is my usual order at any sushi spot. It's my personal deciding factor for quality and flavor. This place has it. Presentation was excellent, [[HIGHLIGHT]]service and ambiance were great too![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We'll definitely be back.

Went here for lunch with my coworkers for the first time and this place was AMAZING! As a sushi lover, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food prepared for us, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the cleanliness and aesthetic of the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There wasn't a line so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very prompt yet very patient with us as we ordered; there was also another man who helped on the floor who was equally kind and attentive. Our food came out within a reasonable amount of time and we appreciated the freshness and presentation of everything. My boss and coworker had ordered rolls that came with these cute looking "volcanoes" with a smoke effect. Definitely enjoyed our time here, I'd love to return here again and next time with my husband for a lunch/dinner date!

Tempura...light batter, delicious veg and shrimp!

Ordered sushi and tempura for take-out and it was absolutely incredible. Just as good as the sushi you'd receive as a customer seated at the sushi bar. Hands down the best sushi on the west side of Olympia, and arguably all of Thurston County!

Superb sushi at Aya Sushi! The menu is extensive with lots of appetizers, rolls, sashimi, noodles, and desserts. They first serve you a small bowl of miso soup, then we added edemame. I got the Crunchy Roll, cuz anything with tempura shrimp is gonna be on my order. It was nicely spicy but the pieces were a lot bigger than the traditional size. I had to cut each one in half. Everything was delicious though. Especially the strawberry Mochi Ice Cream. It's a must!

Terrific spot. Fresh vibrant sushi, and the menu is extensive. Definitely ordered too much, but had to sample a bunch of rolls. Their miso soup is warm and comforting. The staff are friendly, the service is great, and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back when in town.

OMG we had an amazing birthday dinner at Aya!! Great service and look at my pictures. The food was awesome and the presentation was beautiful. Highly recommend!

Chirqshizushi. 3 kind of fishes and seaweed salad. Don't spend $23.95 on it, not worthy

Service:0* Food: *** The server wasn't attentive, and chirashizushi was boring. I was quite disappointed. Waiting for taking the order about 8 mins just right after 11:30 am. When I was done eating, raised my hands for the bill, the servers enjoyed chatting too much and forgot to look around the dining area. I suddenly became noticeable after my server finished taking 2 tables' orders. But my meal was done before the 2 tables's customers came though. When I left, there were only 3 tables were occupied. I wonder how busy they could be to check their customers even though just stopped by to ask "how everything goes?".

Yellowtail hand roll. Poor quality fish in it.
    Lauren L.

Not sure if it was because I did a pickup order but the fish in my hand roll was of obviously poor quality, almost every piece. It was scaly, dark red, tough and stringy.

The Food IS and has always been amazing here. the new staff is a huge improvement, considering the old staff was rude and unprofessional. I got the Nigiri Bento Box.

Fabulous sushi. Generous portions of fish. We used to be trappers lovers, but will make the 50 minute drive time and time again to eat at Aya. Each roll is well thought out, and favors come together amazingly. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful presentation of the Chirashi Donburi They included great wasabi, Gluten free options, and gave us free miso soup with our meal. Very kind waitress that helped us and checked in often. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Peaceful environment[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I've been twice now: once on a date with my husband and another time for a family outing, and both experiences have been fantastic. The prices are fair. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it's definitely not outrageously expensive either, especially for the quality. We usually spend around $100 for two orders of takoyaki and three sushi rolls. I came for the sushi, but apparently I'm staying for the takoyaki and the fantastic service. Seriously, the takoyaki here might be the best I've ever had. They're served at just the right temperature, crispy on the outside, savory, and actually have a good amount of octopus in each ball. My husband agrees, which is why we always end up ordering TWO orders. We can't help ourselves. The sushi itself is delicious and really well balanced. I don't feel like the rolls are overloaded with rice, and every roll we've tried has had a good balance between the fish, sauces, and other ingredients. Nothing feels like it's drowning out everything else. Both times we've visited, the service has also been wonderful. The servers are attentive and friendly, and good service is one of the reasons I enjoy coming back. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, especially around the entrance where you're practically passing right by the chefs. But I actually like the lowkey, humble atmosphere. During the day, it's fairly dim inside with just a sliver of sunlight peeking through, and the neutral tones make it feel cozy without trying too hard to be fancy. My only gripe has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: PARKING. Downtown Olympia parking is such a pain in the neck. You might find yourself circling a few blocks looking for street parking, but Asahi is one of those places where I'll deal with it because the food and service are worth the trip. I've been to plenty of sushi places in California, so after moving to Washington a few months ago, I've been hoping to find a sushi spot here that could compare and that I would actually want to return to. Asahi is definitely that place. It's officially my go-to sushi spot in the area whenever I can afford to treat myself, because if I'm coming here, I'm budgeting enough to try and tip the servers well too. I'll happily keep coming back for my two orders of takoyaki and sushi fix. :)

Tonight, we did an impromptu pop-in as my husband's physician ordered to increase fish and seafood to 3 times per week. Looks like we'll be enjoying more Nori then, YAY!! I just wish we lived a little closer. Tonight, we ordered Crunch California, Picante, Big Mike, and Black Widow sushi rolls, along with Gyoza and Crispy Crab Rangoons to share family style. Ooh my tummy is rumbling just thinking about all of the yummy goodness soon to come! We are meeting up with our brother and sister to share. I highly recommend Nori for a casual lunch or dinner date, or double or triple date. We love their sushi, their entrees, noodles and rice dishes, and their soups. Who am I kidding? Every menu item we have partaken in, has been delightfully enjoyable! Give them a try just once, and I can bet confidently, you will be coming back time and time again.

I consider myself a bit of a sushi connoisseur (my husband just calls me "bougie" lol), so I figured we'd give this place a try since it was convenient and a sushi place for me to try. When we walked in, it was completely empty and there was a sign up at the entrance mentioning they were hiring servers. The restaurant seemed spacious but maybe it felt that way because all the tables were unoccupied. It took a few seconds before someone came out, but the girl who helped us ended up being the only saving grace of the entire experience. She was super sweet, told us we could sit anywhere, brought menus right away, and was on top of everything: drinks, appetizer, sushi, clearing plates. She was honestly the only person we interacted with the whole time. I did end up going to the register to pay after our meal, since she got busy once more people came in, but she handled everything she could really well. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the service. It was simply mediocre. The shrimp tempura tasted undercooked (I could still taste the batter smh). My husband got the Red Dragon roll and I got the Big Mike. He asked for no cucumber and they were accommodating. Regarding portion sizes, they're generous, and I can see how that might appeal to the general palate. I like that the rolls were cut nicely too, where the rolls were a little thinner than your standard piece, so they were easy to eat. The torched salmon and eel were probably the best parts of what I ordered. But overall, the quality felt pretty average. The rice was lacking flavor and kind of just tasted like plain filler. Our total came out to about $57 before tip, and honestly, it didn't feel worth it. Most rolls averaged $19, but they tasted more like something you'd expect at a cheaper spot. I've had similar sushi before that I'd consider more of a budget option (not amazing, but decent for the price). This sushi was passable but tasted more like $15 for a roll.. Just subpar for my standards. I think what made it more disappointing is that when I go out for sushi, I am expecting something better than what I could make at home (and yes, I have made sushi before with sashimi-grade fish, sushi rice, etc.). It is convenient to have someone cook for you, and good sushi is supposed to feel like an extraordinary experience. That's why I dine out at sushi restaurants but this just didn't hit the spot. Overall, amazing service, but the food was pretty underwhelming for the price.
