I was really excited about trying this place for lunch, as I have not gotten a chance to eat a Sushirrito. The large sushi that I ordered for lunch was the Fumotoi. It has hamachi, shaved cabbage, carrots, cucumber, jalapenno's and corn. As it is supposed to be like a large burrito, I was surprised by the small size of it. I guess when I think burrito, I assume it will be the size of the SF burrito. The size was of that of a wrap sandwich. I found the flavor of the sushi to be surprisingly sweet. I could not taste any of the jalapenno peppers. I felt unsatisfied after eating mines. I didn't really enjoy the taste and was a tad still hungry. I think before I visit here again, I will have to make it into the city and get a sushirrito to compare the size and taste. One check off my lunch spots lists to remove for now. read more

Sushi Secrets does not disappoint! I first came here to try their sushi burritos, and I've pretty much eaten my way through their menu. My newest obsession: their poke bowls! They're pretty much the exact same thing as the burritos, same price and everything, but it's easier to eat since it's in a bowl. And lemme tell you, they do not skimp here. The cuts of fish are fatty and chewy and delicious, and the sides are super fresh! Usually poke bowls don't fill me up much at all, but here I'm stuffed. Eat your sushi burrito right away, it gets soggy fast! Sushi secrets has seriously become one of my favorite places to get grub in Berkeley. It's always so tempting because it is close to the bus stop too. Interior isn't super big, but they have decent amount of seating and a cool comfy couch! Plus they always have Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit playing on TV. I've tried B2 (tempura unagi), B3 (spicy tuna and king salmon), and B8 (salmon) and all have been super flavorful and delicious. The amount of fish that you get is pretty generous.The roll is also packed with a lot of veggies and surprisingly not that much rice. The whole thing is really pretty too. Each burritos runs around $8-9. I think it is worth it for the quality and the amount of food you get. I often just eat half and save the other one for later (hence...the soggy comment above). It's good food and you feel healthy about it. =) I have also tried the potted milk tea. Good. It's about $3.75. With so many boba places nearby, I often opt to not get my drink here. ooooooh i'm such a fan of this. I've been wanting to try it because I'm a big fan of the sandwich place next door (the Sandwich Spot), but I was a bit wary because Sushi Secrets never looked busy. Give it a month and there will be lines out the door. The people who work there are extremely fast and professional. You order your roll thing at the corner of the counter closest to the door and then go pay. I picked the B3, no carrots, and it was incredible! There was a TON of fish - wonderful quality, wonderful flavor. I liked the mix of the other veggies. A little bit of cucumber, a lot of purple cabbage, and a teeny bit of.. was it sweet potato? It might sound weird but there wasn't much and the mild sweetness was a perfect compliment. It was a great size, at least 2x the mass of the regular sushi roll. There was more sauce than in a typical sushi roll, but the sauces weren't overpowering and they weren't salty. It is a filling, high-quality, fresh, easy meal. So this place makes sushi burritos, and poke salads, etc. I stopped by a soft opening and I got the B5, the Eisen, complete with home made honey walnut, shrimp tempura, sweet corn, cucumber, purple cabbage, and for sauce: spice mango aioli, Japanese kimchee aioli, and anago aioli (straight from the menu). This was really good, also gets spicy towards the end of the first half. I don't really recall eating shrimp, like it wasn't noticeable. My friend ordered the B2, the bijoubu. This one was pretty good until you get to the eel. The eel was just shocking and it was kinda fishy... Though the veggies are fresh. The name "Sushi Secrets" sounds kind of sus and the logo/artwork has a creepy naked animal thing (literally what is that?) BUT despite the strange branding, Sushi Secrets is SO good! I discovered Sushi Secrets on UberEATS and have consistently ordered the King Salmon Bowl since. The salmon is really fresh--you never know with raw fish--and the bowl has the perfect mix of ingredients. My only complaint is that if you eat in the restaurant itself, the ambiance is not great. It's not the cleanest and it's always eerily empty. I ate dinner there once and felt like I was trapped in a dystopian YA novel cafeteria. So if you plan on trying Sushi Secrets, you'll definitely enjoy the food but I'd recommend you order to go! read more

I come here maybe a few times every week. I have used up countless of their loyalty cards. I usually order a poke bowl. The seafood is always fresh. And considering the portion and the quality of raw material I get, the price is probably half of ordinary sushi restaurants. The owner and service staff are amazing. Once you have tasted the sushiritto, it's difficult to like other sushi burritos. I had Chichibun and Hokushita and one was so spicy you couldn't get the taste of the fish. Saw that this place recently opened and decided to try it out. Thought it was pretty good! The menu selection isn't very wide, but it works for this type of restaurant. I stood there staring at the menu with a confused look in my face and a worker asked me if I needed help--yes please! I was recommended the B1, which is for people that are fans of California Rolls. The normal price is $7.99, but with the 20 percent off grand opening discount the total was only $6.86. Pretty good! Cheaper than Chipotle. Also pretty decent prices compared to Sushirrito in SF. My sushi came out really fast. I was confused because there was no avocado so I asked the guy that delivered the order. There was supposed to be avocado but they were out, so I got extra crab meat. I think they should've told me when I placed the order that there was no avocado, so I docked one star there. The sushi was bomb. The food exceeded my expectations, definitely coming back. I thought that it was a bit weird that there was cream cheese in my sushi, but my friends seemed to like it (I'm not a cheese person). Water was self serve so that was nice. The place was very clean, with cool couches near the back. It was good and satisfied tremendously my sushi craving. It would be good to split if you were not that hungry. I also got the potted drink which I thought was yummy as well. Interesting take on sushi+burrito=sushi burrito !! I decided to get B1 on the menu because it was the ONLY one on the menu where everything was cooked, aside from the "create your own meal" option. The male employee there was very informative. But as for the overall taste of B1, it was bad. They used an american cheese in the sushi, and not only that, they added way too much sauce! What a bad mix.. The overall aesthetics of the place was friendly and modern, especially the far back! Several comfy couches and several board games to keep you company. A pretty good sushi place, whether you're looking for a sushiritto or just regular sushi. I usually get a sushiritto to go, usually the Amabuki or Berkeley Churrito. My orders are made pretty quickly, never had to wait too long for my order, usually 5 to 10 minutes. The sushi and sushiritto are tasty and fresh and always make me full. The inside of the restaurant is on the small/medium side, if you're looking to dine in. There are a good amount of tables to sit at. The front area near the cashier is a little cramped though as that's where people waiting for to go orders also sit. This is probably be the closest sushi place to the Bart station, don't even have to cross the street and just a few steps away. Super convenient. So I'm checking out the menu, very limited but I couldn't really comprehend for some reason so I just randomly chose what may taste good and unfortunately they didn't have it so I went for the Tuna Poke Salad and then another unfortunate thing was they didn't have anymore seaweed and the lady next to me goes "I WANT SEAWEED" and I'm just thinking "how you gonna make a sushi burrito without seaweed?" Hmm... So I decided to take the Tuna Poke Salad without the seaweed, the people who work there are nice but I was very unsatisfied. The salad didn't even taste good. The Tuna had this very bland flavor and since it's already a salad, you'd expect a little more flavor for it to pop. I been here a few times with my boyfriend and we both really enjoy this spot! It's very quick process (never has taken them more than five minutes to make my sushritto) and never really too busy. Usually when I go, I get B1 that seems like the classic there (sooooo good). However, this last time my boyfriend and I wanted to try something different so we got B3. It was quite the experience eating B3. It was full of favors that personally I would never want combined. It was very spicy with a hint of a nutty taste. I couldn't have been more wrong, it was a perfect, moderate layer of rice. This was my first sushi burrito, and I'm definitely hooked. I had the Chichibun, which was the perfect balance of fish, vegetable, and rice. It definitely packs a punch, so be warned if you aren't a fan of wasabi. The store was small, but had enough room for small groups. There is a section in the back with couches for more intimate dining. Plus they were playing How to Train Your Dragon, which I consider a perk. I have always wanted to try a sushi burrito so imagine my excitement when I found out that this place opened up near the BART station. The restaurant itself was very quaint as most are in Berkeley. The ambience was welcoming and casual. The workers enthusiastically greet you as you enter the shop, keeping the traditional Japanese sushi bar greetings. The menu is easy to read and figure out. I order the B2 which included unagi and red cabbage. Overall I enjoyed the burrito. The flavor was still subtle as sushi should be so I could enjoy the roll with a tad bit of soy sauce. The portions were huge though, since it IS a burrito sized sushi roll. They were not skimpy on the unagi or crab, and didn't overstuff the burrito with rice. I also order the takoyaki which was actually cooked perfectly. It wasn't overdone so the dish was still very saucy. The customer service was impeccable. They greeted you with a smile, and joke with you at the cash register. They were also extremely respectful, sticking to handing customers their burritos with two hands and bowing slightly as well. Pssst. Sushi Secrets is open and it's pretty darn awesome. It won't be a secret for long that this sushi joint has an extensive variety of sushirritos (all around $7-$8) and a few yummy tea drinks ($3-$4)! I ordered B8: Hokushita, a combination of salmon, homemade tamago, sweet corn, lotus chips, carrots, and other delicious ingredients. Excellent sauce, a good amount of sashimi style-salmon, and flavorful tamago made for a tasty sushi burrito. However, I do wish the sushirrito were packed a little tighter so I could eat it without using a fork toward the end. That alongside a complimentary "cow" milk tea crema with oreo crumbles and a mint leaf made for a photo-worthy and belly-pleasing dinner. We grabbed our sushirritos and wandered to the back of the small-ish restaurant where we found a knock-off Jenga set. SCORE! We played a couple rounds and even invited a lone diner to join us in a game. After we each won two games, we called it a day and thanked our gracious hosts. They kept checking in on us, so I did feel as if I were a special guest in the restaurant. Sushi Secrets has great potential to be the next cool hangout for college students around the UCB campus. It just needs a little more exposure and a few more games to play around the couch or on the tables! :) The space is small, but I can see it gaining traction among college and high school students from Berkeley High alike. Jumping on the sushi burrito train! It's a little bit cheaper, but not by much. So it's a slightly cheaper, but not that much better alternative. I got a B8 and added in the milk tea. Pass on the milk tea, it's so watered down. No good at all, that was my first sign that this place might not be that good. The service was good, the guy walked over to handed our sushi burritos to us. The sushi were hefty and heavy! It was really big so that was great. The rolling/wrapping was also nicely executed as the burrito didn't fall apart easily. They put A LOT of sauce in there though, it was drenched in sauce. I think if they only had a quarter of the sauce, it would've been great. It was a pretty big portion. The fish tasted alright, couldn't really tell how fresh it was with all that sauce in there. All in all, it's good. A little bit cheaper, quality is not quite as great but still decent. Skip the milk tea though. read more

I love Sushi Secrets and would eat here at least once a week if I could afford it. I am always happy with the customer service, the portions, and the freshness of the ingredients. I think it's great they offer a variety of sushi burritos and poke bowls as well as a build-your-own option for both - though I've always found exactly what I want in the menu choices (with a little something extra added in sometimes). My go-to burrito is the B2, which comes with grilled eel and surimi crab for proteins; to it I add raw salmon ($2 extra, totally worth it). The veggies are always crisp and fresh, the salmon high quality, and the sauces flavorful and perfectly complimentary to the fillings. The ratio of meat to veggies to rice is fantastic for the price, I never feel like I'm filling up on rice. Today I decided to give a bowl here a try. The bowls all can be made over tortilla chips, rice, or mixed greens. I chose the crab bowl over salad. The portion of crab was out of this world! I never would have expected to say I got too much protein on a salad but I could almost say that for this bowl. I was left with a heap of crab by the end of my greens - definitely not complaining about having some extra crab for some chips or salad from my own kitchen. The bowl wasn't overdressed and even having multiple sauces, I could taste all of them and each complimented the crab, veggies, and other dressings. I now have a bowl option when I'm not in the mood for rice and nori! Notes on the stamp cards: if you have more than one stamp card started, they cannot be combined; you have to finish each card on its own. Also, bowls do not count toward the card, only burritos. Being downtown Berkeley, don't expect to have an easy time parking. I assume the line can get long at lunch when UCB and Berkeley high are in session, but you can preorder for takeout to speed up the process. read more

Haven't been here enough to make an accurate assessment of the food quality, but this establishment has horrible customer service standards, I mean REALLY bad. I was made to feel like a greedy, indulgent child because I asked the cashier to remake my burrito. I'm not a fickle diner and will I usually eat whatever is served to me in restaurants, even if I find the food to be sub par. But after four bites of my overly sauced wasabi burrito, tears were welling up in my eyes and my sinuses were on fire- I could not eat another morsel of this wasabi abomination. I explained what was going on to the cashier and asked if the burrito could be re-made minus the wasabi. He said no- but he would be happy to provide me with some soy sauce, which would neutralize the heat. This was my first time at Sushi Secrets, but it was not my first time eating sushi- soy sauce does not make wasabi disappear. I again asked for my burrito to be remade- slow painful deliberation from cashier. I suggested a refund since he was not able to process the suggestion of re-making my order. "I'm not giving you a refund, you ate almost half!" I told him that a partial refund would be fine. "I'll tell you what, how about we make you another one?" Oh what a novel idea! If only someone had suggested that in the first place! The seemingly gracious and kind burrito maker apologized for the previous mistake, and made me a new burrito. The next insult was when my order was completed, instead of preparing the roll "for here" like I had originally requested, the cashier hastily wrapped it up, handed over, and said "It's to-go," AKA- get out of my restaurant. Humiliated, I left and walked back to my car to eat my burrito of shame. When I unwrapped the paper, I discovered the final insult- the burrito was filled with shit! Not actual shit, but the cheapest shittiest ingredients in the shop. Not at all resembling the original order. These guys are cold, needless to say I won't be returning. read more

Good alternative to Sushiritto and sushi burrito places in SoCal if you're from there. I got the unagi one (B2) and it was pretty good although the seaweed was a bit chewy. The menu they posted at their door was different than their actual menu inside, so be aware of that before deciding what to get. They have a milk tea combo for 10.99, but their regular burritos are 8.99 and milk tea is 3.00, so you're only saving one cent. Milk tea wasn't bad, but their combo isn't really a combo at all. Minus one star cause one of the workers started our order, picked up the phone, then resumed making our food without washing his hands...so if cleanliness is a concern for you, avoid this place, watch them while they make your food, or have them use gloves. read more
