I'm confused by the very low reviews in this place. I wonder if most of the reviews were before the restaurant expanden it's location. They did a full remodel and expanden so it's larger. We came here for lunch and just ordered two jb rolls. The rolls were actually really good. A lot of fish. And beautifully decorated. I was very impressed. Service was also great. The ladies couldn't care less about having us waiting around and only came back to let me know that they had to take it to the back to box it up which would take another 10 minutes extra (not sure why because they were almost empty ...shocker) I was so hungry I would've taken it without a bag to save the extra time. Unfortunately I had an extremely negative incident at this location today Sunday January 31, 2021 I came in at approximately 3:30 pm with my elderly mother for lunch. When I opened the front door, I came across a young male in dark clothing standing in the doorway leaning against the register. I said excuse me to this person several times more so for my mother so she can pass with ease. This person never moved and as my mother moved around him I told him "you could have moved, she is an older person" to which the male proceeded to tell me to "shut up, whatever" I told him "excuse me?!" He became belligerent and responded "you heard me!" to which I responded "you know what? You really need to learn how to respect people" I promptly took my mother out of there. This disgusting abhorrent behavior was witnessed by your young waitress with glasses and I honestly think she was too scared to do anything about the situation. This also occurred in front of all your patrons. I believe this disgusting behavior should not be tolerated anywhere and that management should have stepped in. I just now realised that this is the same place I reviewed 4 years ago...Different location but same issues. #1: they don't have a sushi for 1 on the menu...Well, they have something that I suppose is sushi for one, but it's $43..They have rolls on a separate menu card, but you can't even read the ingredients because the background is jet black...A number of the offerings are scratched off- amateurish. .....If you want to order sushi for one, you'll pay $18 for 4 pieces..The biggest issue is that this place charges 5* prices while the quality is basically on par with Publix take out...Sashimi appatizer is 3 pieces of tuna, salmon and whitefish....No flavor...Zero...Steamed dumplings are about the size of a marble, and they're all dough...no taste..And then you get your bill...The waitress hovers over you while she processes your bill at your table...Of course the tips start at 18%, so if you want to give less, you have to punch in the numbers on the portable computer right then and there in real time...I tip well, but this approach is a hustle...You're going to pay big here, but you're not going to receive value that's in line with the money....Go to Publix...Their imitation crab meat is just as mediocre... read more

It seems that when I went 2 months ago they were understaffed and the waiter wasn't sure about the menu. I asked him to make a simple change in the food order. I found out about this hialeah location one day while doing a yelp search for sushi in my area. I love sushi sake and I really wanted my kani su but didn't feel like driving to the biscayne location. The dining area was a nice size. I briefly glanced the area as I ordered my food for pick-up. My favorite meal here is the kana su as an app and the rene roll. The rene roll I must say is absolutely delicious. It is a lithe small but I've never had an issue with seating. My friend girl loves their plum wine but I am not a drinker so I couldn't tell you. Second time ordering takeout from this place. Fish wasn't great, left a lot to be desired especially for the price paid. Ordered a sushi dinner no octopus or eel which they did without a problem but they included imitation crab, tamago and a very fishy fish (mackerel or something similar to that) I guess to keep their cost down. While the tamago was good and imitation crab meat ok, I was expecting fish. Now I understand that sushi technically refers to the rice, but general practice at most sushi places would not be to give you imitation crab and tamago in such an expensive plate, definitely seems like a cost cutting measure. Also, if I don't like octopus and eel, I likely wouldn't like the fishy one they gave either. Luckily that was only 2 pieces. But 6 pieces of lackluster sushi out of 15 (two tamago, two imitation crab, two something fishy) is kind of disappointing for $36. Unfortunately I had forgotten that I had a similar experience the first time I ate there. Shame on me I guess. The gyoza was lackluster, probably frozen (although I'm sure most places serve something similar to be fair) and the chicken fried rice seemed way too greasy. The rice I've had at sushi maki seemed much lighter and more flavorful. While I'm sure there are some decent items here, I wasn't thrilled with my experience with this place. Ordered a Dragon Roll from this place, where I order all the time for pick up. The worse roll I've ever had. It was missing the spicy Mayo, no eel sauce and the shrimp was very stale. Called back to verify if they had changed anything. After phone rang for a while, I get an answer . I asked what is in the roll, which server had to read from menu. I told her what was missing and she said that spicy Mayo is under the avocado and the eel sauce was dotted on top. I explained to her that the sauce was missing, and her answer was I'm sorry, I can't see what you are telling me so I can't do nothing about it. With that answer I replied ok, I'm not bringing it back because I have no time. Well, you just lost a customer. Because with that attitude I will not order from there ever again.
