. I wish they have more bar sitting instead of 6-7 chairs. My favorite sushi chef Tak is off on Thursday and Friday so we came on Saturday night. Around 6 pm the bar is already filled so we waited for more than 40mins it's worth it tho. We also bring own Sake instead of buying cuz since we come so often there are no more choices we like to have/try. They charge us $20 for corkage to bring own bottle of Sake. Sushi is always good but not much selections what we like. Since we had so much different kinds of fish in Japan two months ago. I shouldn't expect the same I guess. Love the location by 5th Street Public Market. I've been here twice now and the quality and freshness of the fish has been excellent both times. It used a very over the top presentation to hide the mediocre ingredients. I couldn't finish it so I picked apart the last few and the salmon was just very meh quality. Won't give you food poisoning but not the kind I would eat as sashimi. Then the tempura, was not crispy at all, very soggy. So the sushi lacked the crunch it promised. Sushi pure is definitely hit or miss. Sometimes the food is on point other times it's just not very good. Yesterday was an example of that sitting at the sushi bar for lunch. The food was off and quality of the fish was just ok.. the food was served very quickly which isn't usually the case so everything appeared to be premade except the sushi rolls. Chicken on the bento box was luke warm and tasted reheated which my fiancé didn't eat. The sushi chefs were friendly to us but there was a strange dynamic going on with the server and them and they seemed to be unhappy working there... I ate some of my roll and spit out the nigiri because the fish tasted off and chewy. Typically I enjoy my meal there for the most part but we both left feeling unsatisfied and still hungry.. We started with miso and edamame. Both were good. We had 3 rolls the Geisha, the First Kiss and the Black Angel. We substituted all tempura for just plain shrimp (with an up charge) our favorite roll was the geisha which has no rice. The purple rice was actually good though! They're really big on crab and tempura, neither of which we love. It was hard to find rolls without either. Considering that, we still gave them 4stars. The atmosphere was nice, service was fair as far as speed but the servers were all sweet and friendly and in all fairness we were there at the very end of the night. *bathrooms are clean (very important to me as it says a lot for the restaurant) I'd definitely go back but I'd work harder at finding rolls without crab and tempura.
