I'm going to try and balance out the reviews and give it a 3 because people either love this place or want it burned to the ground. Maybe the staff has read the comments? Maybe I just got the right people? But I had a really pleasant experience. Staff was warm and friendly, no issues with waiting for food, and wait time for seats wasn't too bad. Food wise everything was as expected. Sushi was good and rolls were decent size. Of course people want the best deal and it's hard to find the balance of good quality fish for cheap. This place leans towards expensive and not sure if it's worth it given their variety rolls don't really have much variety outside of spicy tuna and salmon. Honestly I wish I could give it a 3.5 because 3 seems too low and a 4 seems too high. Just go expecting a moderate experience. You start shooting for the stars you'll end up knocking down a couple while you fervently write your Yelp review about how awful the place was. It's ok. They close at 8:30 and at 8:25 they said they were closed and that we couldn't order anything to go. We've also been told by them in the past that they won't do Chef's choice and if we wanted anything we can only order off of their menu. I am writing this review on March 6, 2021. This is not in regards to the food or the quality of the servers. I am extremely disappointed in the wait it took for picking up my lunch today. Keep in mind I only ordered 4 rolls. Two Rocket rolls and one omg roll. I called in when they opened (12pm) and the person who took my order over the phone said it will take 20 minutes I call back at 12:20 and they stated the food was not ready yet. I was in my car with my daughter with the AC on and I see people sitting down getting their food faster. I called in at 12:30 nobody answers I called back again in front of the staff and nobody picked up the phone. At this time it was already 1240 and nobody called me to let me know the food is ready. Keep in mind I was picking up lunch for my family which ended up taking up more than one hour of my time. The staff did not care and the manager simply shrugged it off as if they were too busy. Good food, nothing that particularly sets it apart from other Sushi places around here though. Good place to go to if you're not looking for anything fancy. My main issue with the place is the music!! The Christmas playlist is a ridiculous; filled with silly little repetitive Christmas remixes. I'd highly recommend going here after the Christmas season is over to advert the music. The LED lighting is also a bit too bright green for my taste. I used to frequent both this Sushi Planet and their Moorpark location frequently when I lived in Ventura County. I was recently visiting and decided to pop by again, and am happy to report they still serve quality sushi, while it seems most other sushi bars in the area have come and gone. The staff have always been friendly and know their regular customers, and service is usually quick. Weekends have a happy hour deal for lunch and early dinner, though I've noticed the sushi served during those times is often of lesser quality and chewy, so I recommend going for a roll or appetizers during those times. Other times during the week, the fish is usually fresher. This is the one part of town where parking can sometimes be tricky, and they do have a lot, but I've seen it fill up. read more

I've eaten here many times for over 10 years and each time it did not disappoint. The staff has always been friendly and the food always tasty. I've tried just about every roll on the menu and each one was consistent in appearance and presented well. The rolls, however, are not unique and are very similar to what you may find in the average sushi restaurant. Sushi (fish on rice/not the rolls) most of the time was good and appeared and tasted fresh. Only a few times did I experience bad tasting tuna. Dinner plates are good and the portions are filling. The shrimp tempura stayed crunchy and didn't get soggy. The garlic endamame is a MUST try. It's not offered on the menu anymore, but just ask for it and they may make it for you. At my last visit in July 2019, I sat at the bar until they closed and I watched how they cleaned the area. I have to say, they are very clean and followed every Gordon Ramsay rule! They cleared out the fish from the refrigerated area and thoroughly cleaned it from top to bottom. They scrubbed down the walls around them and sanitized every part that may touch food. The bento boxes last night were meh. The sesame chicken my mom ordered was like breaded fried chicken which isn't what we imagined for sesame chicken. The OMG roll and my teriyaki chicken bento box were okay but it didn't seemed outstanding. The miso soup was the best thing along with the simple cut spicy tuna roll. I've been here a couple times with my friend Kathie to eat sushi rolls for dinner here and it's been fine then but maybe it were the bento boxes that left us feeling completely full but just unsatisfied in the taste of the food. Their happy hour is most days of the week, HH hours have changed recently to expand so double check. Good roll options on the list. Service has always been quick and kind. Once they provided edemame on the house simply because I ordered a roll that would take a bit to prepare. Seating is surprisingly tight. So depending on what day/time you come, there can be a rush and a small wait for seating. Their roll menu is enormous with many many creative rolls. Stopped by Planet Sushi with my teenage son for dinner our way back to the Valley. Vibe was sorta Manhattan with an upbeat playlist - lost of black and neon. Wait was short at 8pm. We ordered an Oh My God Roll, a Rainforest Roll, a Spicy Tuna Roll and an Eel Avocado Roll. They were all good, but the Rainforest Roll was the least-good value but probably the most difficult/time-consuming to make. It tasted fine but I definitely would not order it again for $13.95. The other roles were good and fairly priced. Our ticket was $43.33 before tip. This is a decent place and I would come again, but not necessarily a top destination.
