I am writing this review on March 6, 2021. This is not in regards to the food or the quality of the servers. I am extremely disappointed in the wait it took for picking up my lunch today. Keep in mind I only ordered 4 rolls. Two Rocket rolls and one omg roll. I called in when they opened (12pm) and the person who took my order over the phone said it will take 20 minutes I call back at 12:20 and they stated the food was not ready yet. I was in my car with my daughter with the AC on and I see people sitting down getting their food faster. I called in at 12:30 nobody answers I called back again in front of the staff and nobody picked up the phone. At this time it was already 1240 and nobody called me to let me know the food is ready. Keep in mind I was picking up lunch for my family which ended up taking up more than one hour of my time. The staff did not care and the manager simply shrugged it off as if they were too busy. The Parking lot was empty‍ Don't order take out if you're in a hurry read more

Food was excellent, but unfortunately they automatically add a 15% tip to our party of 4 people without saying anything. So I add another $15 on top because I didn't look at every line on the receipt. Bullshit! Will never return! read more

They close at 8:30 and at 8:25 they said they were closed and that we couldn't order anything to go. We've also been told by them in the past that they won't do Chef's choice and if we wanted anything we can only order off of their menu. Having eaten there in the past the Sushi is sub par and there are so many better choices in Camarillo! read more

I used to frequent both this Sushi Planet and their Moorpark location frequently when I lived in Ventura County. I was recently visiting and decided to pop by again, and am happy to report they still serve quality sushi, while it seems most other sushi bars in the area have come and gone. The staff have always been friendly and know their regular customers, and service is usually quick. Weekends have a happy hour deal for lunch and early dinner, though I've noticed the sushi served during those times is often of lesser quality and chewy, so I recommend going for a roll or appetizers during those times. Other times during the week, the fish is usually fresher. This is the one part of town where parking can sometimes be tricky, and they do have a lot, but I've seen it fill up. read more

Good food, nothing that particularly sets it apart from other Sushi places around here though. Good place to go to if you're not looking for anything fancy. My main issue with the place is the music!! The Christmas playlist is a ridiculous; filled with silly little repetitive Christmas remixes. I'd highly recommend going here after the Christmas season is over to advert the music. The LED lighting is also a bit too bright green for my taste. Something a bit more calming in color would be a great change. read more

Love Sushi Planet. Ive been a regular since discovering it 3 years ago. Such a fan that any time I was in the area (coming from SB) Id make a point to stop by. Their happy hour is most days of the week, HH hours have changed recently to expand so double check. Good roll options on the list. Service has always been quick and kind. Once they provided edemame on the house simply because I ordered a roll that would take a bit to prepare. Seating is surprisingly tight. So depending on what day/time you come, there can be a rush and a small wait for seating. Their roll menu is enormous with many many creative rolls. Make whatever kind of slight modifications you like, they've never complained about the ones I request. Love this place and glad that I live just across the street these days! Pros: A variety of tasty sushi rolls offered, friendly staff, kitchen is very clean. Cons: Restaurant is small and not ideal for large parties, happy hour prices for the sushi aren't that cheap. Atmosphere: Good for a casual night out, date night, family dinner. Price Point: Sushi a little more expensive compared to some of the other local Camarillo sushi joints. I've eaten here many times for over 10 years and each time it did not disappoint. The staff has always been friendly and the food always tasty. I've tried just about every roll on the menu and each one was consistent in appearance and presented well. The rolls, however, are not unique and are very similar to what you may find in the average sushi restaurant. Sushi (fish on rice/not the rolls) most of the time was good and appeared and tasted fresh. Only a few times did I experience bad tasting tuna. Dinner plates are good and the portions are filling. The shrimp tempura stayed crunchy and didn't get soggy. The garlic endamame is a MUST try. It's not offered on the menu anymore, but just ask for it and they may make it for you. At my last visit in July 2019, I sat at the bar until they closed and I watched how they cleaned the area. I have to say, they are very clean and followed every Gordon Ramsay rule! They cleared out the fish from the refrigerated area and thoroughly cleaned it from top to bottom. They scrubbed down the walls around them and sanitized every part that may touch food. The back kitchen cleaned the walls and surrounding areas. It was comforting knowing they follow the rules for a sanitary kitchen. Would I come back: YES read more

The bento boxes last night were meh. The sesame chicken my mom ordered was like breaded fried chicken which isn't what we imagined for sesame chicken. The OMG roll and my teriyaki chicken bento box were okay but it didn't seemed outstanding. The miso soup was the best thing along with the simple cut spicy tuna roll. I've been here a couple times with my friend Kathie to eat sushi rolls for dinner here and it's been fine then but maybe it were the bento boxes that left us feeling completely full but just unsatisfied in the taste of the food. Will give it another shot! read more

We've been going to this place for the past 3 years.. we always put the tips cash ..and we didn't look more then what the total is ..2 days ago we were just me and my husband and they did add a 15% tips to the total .. i understand some places will add the tips for parties of 4 or more..but it looks like this restaurant add it regardless of how many people there are..tipping culture is out of control here..this is not acceptable read more

My new sushi place in Camarillo! I have only tried 2 items in their menu so far and I'm very pleased. Albacore Truffle and Four Season. I am soooo coming back to try other stuff but I will always order the Albacore Truffle! Ambience is very nice. It's cozy. Has a welcoming vibe to it. No complaints on the service. The soy paper was a different textual replacement for seaweed. The roll itself can easily get soggy and so a little more challenging to pick up with chopsticks but nevertheless a delicious roll. The sashimi was fresh and did not disappoint. Although one piece of salmon was a touch colder (like it had not quite finished thawing) than I would have expected. Overall a delicious meal. And oh- because we always do miso soup now - we're always curious about the miso flavor. This one held up in our top 2. #1 being Sushi Planet in Moorpark. Efficient service. We'll definitely be back.

A Disappointing Experience at Masa Sushi -- Especially for Guests With Food Allergies…read more We have visited Masa Sushi frequently because, when our orders are prepared correctly, the food is genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the service has become consistently disappointing, and after our most recent experience, I feel compelled to share a serious concern--particularly for anyone dining with food allergies. I have a serious gluten and dairy allergy, and every time I visit, I make a point of clearly communicating my allergies when ordering. Unfortunately, the server consistently seems unable or unwilling to acknowledge these concerns. He often simply stares at me without responding, and there appears to be a significant language barrier that makes communicating important dietary restrictions extremely difficult. His body language can also come across as visibly frustrated or irritated when I ask questions about my food. During my most recent visit, I ordered a Chirashi bowl and specifically requested no Kani (imitation crab) because Kani can contain wheat and therefore poses a serious risk for someone with a gluten allergy. I made this request specifically because previous Chirashi bowls at this restaurant have arrived with Kani despite my request to have it removed. When I explained that I could not have the Kani, the server told me, "There is none in it." I was confused because my previous Chirashi bowls had contained it. Unfortunately, when my food arrived, the Kani was there again. I immediately called the server over, pointed directly to the Kani, and told him, "I can't eat this." He took the plate back to the sushi bar. Instead of preparing a new dish or addressing the potential cross-contact issue, the Kani was simply removed from the existing dish, and the same plate was returned to me. I asked, "You didn't replace it with anything?" The server did not answer and quickly walked away. This was particularly concerning because when someone has a serious food allergy, simply removing the offending ingredient from a completed dish is not necessarily an adequate solution. The Kani had already been in contact with the other food on the plate. At a minimum, I would have expected the restaurant to take the allergy seriously, communicate with me about how the dish was being remade, and provide a safe replacement rather than simply picking the ingredient off and returning the same food. The service in general is also extremely slow and consistently feels disconnected. This doesn't seem to depend on how busy the restaurant is; even when there are only a few tables, the service often feels flustered, inattentive, and at times rude. It's unfortunate because the food itself really is good. We've returned many times because we genuinely enjoy it when everything is prepared correctly. However, delicious food isn't enough to justify repeatedly dealing with this level of service--especially when a customer's serious food allergy is involved. For anyone with a significant food allergy, I would strongly recommend exercising caution and making sure the restaurant can clearly understand and safely accommodate your dietary restrictions before ordering. In my case, after this experience, I no longer feel comfortable dining at Masa Sushi despite genuinely enjoying the food. Great food, but the service and handling of serious allergy concerns need significant improvement.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for the "wow" factor of having some sushi rolls that were possibly the most unique and tasty I've tried, as well as really good Thai food. They have alot to choose from here. One roll we ordered had a shrimp tempura inside, albacore on top, and some kind of delicious dressing. It quickly dissapeared, with my friends and I exchanging wide-eyed "Mmmmm!"s. The Tom Yum soup was also delicious and we didnt leave a drop. If one of you wants sushi and one wants Thai, this is obviously the place to go. I found their fish to be of high quality and value. Not the atmosphere (or the crowds) of the Moorpark locale, but the wide selection of options makes it an ideal choice for a group. read more

You know this place really surprised me, great food, really nice service and you can't beat the prices with the quality of sushi. I recommend the sashimi set which offers 3 pieces of fresh tuna, albacore and salmon! They have a few different sakes, the Kikusui was my choice and it was silky smooth. We got the Tonkotsu Ramen ($13), which was quite poor; while the proportions were generous the broth was off and the ingredients melded together a bit too much, like a stew kept on for too long. The dinner bento box with teriyaki salmon ($17) was decent though, with great tempura vegetables, excellent fried gyoza, and good, if generic, salmon and spicy tuna maki side. We also got the B.S. II roll (whatever that stands for; $14), a California roll topped with cooked scallops and shrimp and spicy mayo. We've had many variants of this before (my spouse being a cooked sushi fan) and this was fairly mid, as the foodies say these days.
