I've been to sushi planet twice now for lunch. the first time i had a special roll for about $10.95 and one of the half price sushi rolls for $3.25. I was surprised at the size of the half priced roll. it was a decent piece of fish for 50% off sushi. the rolls that the group had were all very tasty and the fish was fresh. the second time i went i got the $10.95 chirashi. fish was very fresh and nicely sized. it came with a piece of egg, tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail, octopus, white tuna, and mackeral. my date got the lunch combo with 3 pieces of shrimp tempura and beef teriyaki. the beef teriyaki was tasty, but pieces were a little small. i will be back for more of the tasty rolls and fish. read more

Good place for some good sushi. Usually where my wife and I go when we crave sushi. They also have another location in Moorpark that's bigger. When we go as a family (5) we usually go there because of the space. The service isn't always the best because they always seem to be under staffed. However the servers have a good attitude, and you can see they are doing their best. If it wasn't for that I would of given them 5 stars. read more

My husband and I are pretty big fans of Sushi Planet. We visit the one in Camarillo at least once a month and since I work in Calabasas, I also visit the one there for lunch. They don't offer the fun dining ambiance you'll find at Yamato's, but the food is much better and fresher. While my husband is more of a sashimi connoissuer than I, I stick to the tempura/rice sushi rolls. My absolute fave is the Rocket Roll. I get it every time, without fail, and devour it. So yummy. I've tried to venture out into other rolls and they can be pretty good, but haven't knocked my socks off. My husband often gets tuna sashimi and enjoys it, and I do the buttery salmon. Yum! We usually get about 3 rolls (give or take something from the extensive 50% off menu) and pay around $35 before drinks. The place has a bistro-style sushi bar (high bar stools) and about 10 dining tables. If there's a crowd, expect slower service. Not mind-blowing, but very good sushi for the price. Our sushi lovin' boys saw the fwy sign saying "Sushi Planet" & they immediately thought of Toy Story's Pizza Planet. Yes, they were a little disappointed upon entering. So "planet" refers to large building or vast menu here? Actually neither, it's just a catchy name. Came during happy hour and the boys favorite was on the happy hour menu - crunch roll, then to be "daring" they tried the Rocket Roll. They loved both. No brown rice sushi options here. Oh Baby Roll with yellowtail had a nice flavor and kept its shape while being consumed. The Moon Walker Roll with albacore was a little difficult to eat because it kept falling apart, but it had this grilled garlic that added a wonderful taste to the sushi. Never had that before and I put some of it on the Oh Baby Roll, too. Yum! Wasabi was somewhat weak in spirit. The whole glob they provided didn't provide much kick. Salmon Skin Salad was tasty. Calamari Tempura was too battered, kinda took away the taste of the calamari. No premeal miso soup here, I kinda like that before sushi. Highlight of the meal was their Fried Banana & Coconut Ice Cream... it was AMAZING! Service was attentive with Ms. Kai & the young chap that took over. Affordable pricing (Happy hour does make a difference!). Clean environment. Parking was easy at the time we went. We'll be back, the boys said this is their new favorite sushi place. read more

I don't eat sushi, but wanted to try Sushi Planet for their teriyaki. The chicken teriyaki was abundant & good (they use breast too). The veggie & shrimp tempura was equally yummy! Lunch specials are the best deal. Tons of food at a decent price. I would've given them 4 stars, but I'm deducting 2 (yes 2!) because of the super slow service. I've been there twice, once during the lunch crowd & the other time we were the only patrons in the place. And both times, the service was snail-like & unapologetic. BOO. First off, this was the worst Sushi place I have ever been to. We got there and it was not very busy, a military group of about 20 people and just us. We sit down and order our food and about 30 minutes goes by and the places fills up after us. Everyone else around us is getting food and 40 minutes goes by and still nothing. We get up to leave and see that EVERYONE who came in after us is already chowing down.... All we ordered was a California Roll and an Avocado Roll! TWO LOUSY ROLLS! So we get up to pay and look at that, they seem to make our order right on the spot. We will NEVER go there again. Poor service. After we got back to the office, we ate the sushi... You are better off going to Vons or Ralphs to get sushi from their stands... This sushi is the WORST sushi I have ever eaten in my life. I think they should bring up the quality some! read more

Disgusting customer service!! I called to place an order for pickup at 7:45pm they close at 8:30pm and when I asked if I could place an order for pick up the lady who answered the phone who clearly hates her job and should get a new one said "ughhhh... What can I get you" I said never mind and hung up. I've heard that their service was horrible but kept being a customer because I had never encountered it myself but safe to say I will never be eating here again!!! read more

3.5 stars I was totally apprehensive about a recommendation to try out Sushi Planet after shopping in Camarillo, both because of its westernized name and because it's a chain. I was pleasantly surprised! Sushi fish is decent (flavor and firmness could be improved for some, but nice selection like white tuna, blue fin, etc), rice is good, service is good, prices are low (2 of us ate for $35), and there's a nice mix of regular sushi and a tons of crazy rolls with cute names. There's better sushi out there but if you're in the area, it's A-OK. read more

First, extremely pricey! $52 for two people, no alcohol and only four rolls. The goyza appetizer tasted like it was frozen and heated up in a microwave. Very expensive, crappy service. When they put our food down, they did not announce what it was. I am allergic to shrimp and my daughter ordered some food w/shrimp. Expected at least to be told what each dish was. They forgot our wasabi and ginger. When I requested it, they brought one set - there were two of us, so I had to request it again. Kind of shocked at the price. Will not be returning. read more

We got the Baby Lobster tempura roll, which has - you guessed it - tempura baby lobsters on top, and who cares what they have in the roll on the bottom because it was just too good. Sushi Planet is our 4th place sushi restaurant to go to in town. Now, we'll never go back. They pretty much got everything wrong. From hair in the food, to dropping edamame on accident on our table then giving it to another table, to never seeing our server again after the first round of drinks. They weren't even busy! I was expecting an ok but completely wowed by the food quality and stellar service. This was right across Bella Capri Inn which was great after nice walk through old town. I especially liked the spicy tuna w crispy rice or I dare say mini-onigiri. also had a very nice roll and jalapeño yellowtail. The hostess was the sweetest; that goes for the staff too. They worked harmoniously and looked out for each other to serve the customers. I got my order so fast that at first worried it was pre-made. Not at all; kudos to the sushi chefs. Food is very good. I have stopped by twice since I live far. The service has always been very bad. We were sat down at a table for two. About five minutes later another couple with two kids was sat directly next to us. The waitress went straight to them and took the order for their drinks. A few minutes later she returned with their drinks and began to take their order. Then she left and brought them their food. We were still waiting to order our drinks!!! Back and forth, i had two dishes, one was the spicy tuna and the other real crab. The spicy tuna was garbage, low grade, hard to taste anything recognizable in it. I am a western sushi eater, which means no sashimi for me, I want my rolls dipped in sauce with avocado and spices all over it so sushi planet is perfect. I wish the service would pay more attention to the customers for $10 an entree. The fish is usually fresh and the tuna is always tasty. Favorite: Happy Roll, Oh My God! Roll and the baby lobster. It's not a fancy sushi place but they do well for "western" sushi lovers. Dunk it in soy sauce and down it goes. The owner is a nice guy too and always looking to please his customers when he is around. If I could do 3.5 stars I would so I just rounded it up to 4 because I enjoy eating there. read more

Amongst the myriad of random mini mall type sushi joints this one does not really stand out too much. It is pretty Americanized, so you won't be able to get anything to out there or crazy (unlike a few of the more authentic joints in Ventura). The quality of the sushi is really all over the map, on some occasions that I have been in there the quality is pretty decent, and other times it is a bit rubbery and 'fishy' smelling. It truly is 50/50 as to what you will get one day versus another. Service in the 2 years I have gone there can be just as spotty as the quality of the sushi, really hit or miss. For about a year (2012-2013) they had one waitress who was an attractive mid 20s and wow did she work hard and fast around those tables, ensuring everyone got what they wanted. I have not seen her for awhile so sadly I do not believe she still working there. Anyways, overall I would say it is a sold 2 1/2 to 3 stars. Nothing stellar, but nothing too terrible either. I no longer go during the dinner hour, and only stop by once in awhile for lunch. Prices are pretty reasonable especially at lunch. But again, the quality does tend to suffer. read more

My husband and I work near this establishment and decided to give it a try after work one day. It was a bit small but very cute and I was comfortable where we were seated. The service was very good and they had quite a selection of sushi rolls, which is what I love. We ordered numerous and all were very good! We relaxed and had drinks and never felt rushed. Ok, something happened to the quality of this place the last time I came about a year ago. Last year I would have easily given it a 4 star rating. Great sushi and great service. This time around, not so much. What really caused me to knock down my rating this time around was that the rice they were using for sushi tasted just like plain rice! Although my girlfriend swore it was almost like the sticky rice you have with Thai food. Anyway, it's almost like the person preparing the rice forgot to add the seasoned vinegar. After the first piece I had to do a double take and eat another piece just to make sure that I wasn't imagining things. One thing I will say is that I am grateful that the waitress was accommodating enough and changed over the orders of salmon and yellowtail sushi to orders of sashimi. I have to add that the slices of yellowtail looked a little beat up and were falling apart as I tried to pick it up with my chopsticks and I wasn't sure if there was one server assigned to our table because I spent my meal flagging down different people for service and no one asked how the food was after I sent my initial order back for a change order. Not good... The next time I make my way out to the Camarillo outlets, I'm going to give Sushi Planet one more chance and that's it. read more

I thought it was an average sushi restaurant. Nothing spectacular for me. They did have a 1/2 sushi menu which was interesting. So rolls are longer. Sushi is usually 2 pieces well made. They do a good job with their presentation of their sushi. I wasn't wowed though with the textures of the sushi. Their Sashimi tasted kinda different or weriod from sashimi I have had at other places. There was alittle bit of a language barrier I think as our waiter kinda got upset that they took our order wrong and brought out something we didn't order. Mediocre sushi at best. Super quick lunch before shopping at the outlets. Got spicy tuna rolls and philadelphia rolls. Nothing spectacular about spicy tuna but they add avocado to their philadelphia rolls and it tasted better than without. Service was quick but I guess we did dine at 2pm. Oh, I take that back. Server took forever with the check, especially for being an empty restaurant. As mentioned, their basic rolls and sushi are 50% off all day. The woman said 30 min wait, which I felt was too long but fine, I'm hungry. She took down my number and said she'd call of sooner. Never did call so I show up at the 30 min mark. Same lady acts like she's never seen me before waits for me to speak, yet again. I ask for my order, which has been sitting on the counter.. she said she was "going to call" me. At this point I'm irate at the service, take my food, get to my car.. food is barely warm like it's been sitting at least 15 min. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Camarillo! I am the biggest fan of their Rocket Roll, which is made with shrimp tempura, avocado, and imitation crab. Sounds pretty basic, but the secret is in the sauce. You also can't go wrong with the 911 Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, or the J-Roll. The best part? All the rolls I've recommended are on their Happy Hour menu on the weekends from 12-5pm. Since I don't usually go on the weekdays, I'm not sure about their Happy Hour times then but just give them a call! The only reason I could not give them 5 stars is because service can be lacking. Sometimes inattentive or may come off as rude, but it's not enough to scare me away. Just be assertive and let them know if you need something. read more

My friend suggest sushi so we yelped this place. It had pretty high ratings and the menu didnt look bad so we drove over for dinner. We were seated right away in a lil corner. The corner spot would have been good for a romantic dinner however my friend was dissapointed bc she couldnt really scope out the scene during dinner. She ordered some dynamite roll or something and I got the beef and spicy tuna combo. I must say the prices were very reasonable and the portions were very filling. The meat was good not great.
