It's been a few years since I've been back but we happened to be in the area and was in the mood. Parking was a little weird but doable, we found an open meter on Saturday, 100' from the Palace front door at about 2:30. $1/hr not terrible. Didn't know but there is an ally path from the main downtown parking area to the shopping plaza/pedestrian roadway. This is still a great all you can eat sushi places, as good as I remember, great location and atmosphere, though the interior is showing a bit of wear and tear. Service was adequate but they did appear to be short maybe one server. I thought my wife and I were going to have all u can shovel but she pointed out that they also offered a 2 & 3 roll special. Not only did they offer my regular favorites but the price was about half the cost of all-u-can-eat. Special included an ample salad and soup while the six rolls were surprisingly large with generous ingredients altogether left us pleasantly full. Sure I could have had another roll but then I would have been "uncomfortable" and sleepy. Happened upon this sushi place, but will never happen again. The interior had cool architecture and design. There were plenty of waitresses and our food was out quickly. One waitress tried her best to help, but she was difficult to understand. We had the seaweed salad that seemed dried out. The shrimp ceviche was super good but it pretty much ends there. The selection of rolls was basic with nothing that stood out. The rolls we had were ok. The Oreo tempura and mini rolls were decent. As soon as we put the last bite in our mouths, the check was there. We felt nothing short of thrown out. It was weird, but we wanted to leave quickly when a group of diners allowed their children to run around the restaurant. While we ate we hoped the staff would say something but the situation got much worse. We were forced to move drinks on our table so kids wouldn't hit them while running. Came out to eat here with a family member. Loved this place's sushi and kitchen items that you can order. They have a bunch of things that you can order from on a list, and each one came out tasting really good. Everything we ordered from the kitchen list came out freshly fried and crispy, or cooked or made just the right amount. Sushi and sashimi both looked and tasted fresh. Staff and employees here were pretty helpful as well! I'll give a warning to be careful about how much you order and eat at this place though. The restaurant has a policy that you can order all you want, but you MUST finish eating everything that you order, otherwise you'll be charged for any big leftover waste. Just a heads up to let you know, so don't order too much! Interior has a pretty cool design, but it can also feel a bit cramped when there's a bunch of people sitting. They have a regular non unlimited sushi menu and the unlimited sushi menu. I've only ever ordered from the unlimited sushi menu. It's the perfect mix of cooked food (kitchen menu) and sushi. It's a dimly lit, intimate spaIf you're visiting on a weekend, expect a wait and a FULL house, I mean no empty seats at all. I visited last Saturday, and our wait time for a party of 3 was about 40 minutes. One of the best things about Sushi Palace is their unlimited sushi menu. It's best to go with a large group, so you can order a wider variety of rolls without getting full too quickly. Lately, they've even added an additional menu with new items, which is a nice touch. Every time I visit Sushi Palace, I always start with Kani salad, edamame, and shumai, it's the perfect way to kick off the meal. My go to rolls are the Pink Lady, Butterfly, and Volcano, they never disappoint. I always bring my friends and family here to introduce them to sushi, and it's become my go to spot. Be prepared to wave your waiter/waitress over whenever you want to put in another order, which I actually appreciate. Most of the time, they mainly come by to clear plates, so if you're waiting for them to ask about your next round of food, you might be sitting there for a while. I usually come with a pretty large crowd of 15-20 people and get their all-you-can-eat set Ambiance: Spacious, plenty of natural light! The space can fit a large crowd of 15-20 people at a long table setup-you just need to call ahead to reserve Service: The staff is quick to take your order and deliver your food. They are also quite attentive and continuously poured hot tea or water throughout our lunch Food: Sashimi slices taste fresh and delicious! My favorites are the Salmon and White Tuna sashimi. Their sushi pieces are quite large and come with a a large portion of rice at the bottom. My go to favorite rolls are the dragon roll, soft shell crab roll(fried crab), tri color roll and spicy salmon roll. Their tempuras are super crispy and come hot to your table! So, I had such an awful experience with the service the first time I went to this location that I flat-out refused to return for ages. When a friend suggested we eat here a few days ago, I thought, well, it's been over a decade. Surely, the service has improved...right? No. The servers were very nearly as rude as they were the first time I came here. After my previous experience, I refused to get all-you-can-eat and ordered a la carte. Just like before, the food was fantastic and made very quickly. But the staff? You won't see anyone so much as crack a smile at you. Any questions directed towards staff are responded to with disdain and impatience. The servers bumped into me several times without a single apology. One server also put her hand on the rim of my cup (you know, where my lips go) when delivering my tea, as a warning for those concerned about hygiene. No one asks if you liked the food, if you need anything (except for water, they were on top of that one). All of the serving staff seem to be dismissive, rude, and unpleasant. The only service improvement I experienced is that at least the staff didn't try to kick us out after only 20 minutes this time. To cap it all off, they slammed the receipt on table and nearly yelled at us when my friend accidentally signed the customer copy instead of the merchant copy. For crying out loud, is a GENTLE reminder so much to ask for?? It's not like we'd gotten up or even started gathering our things yet! I've been to Sushi Palace in Somerville a handful of times, and typically I've gotten what I've expected, fast and reliable service on a moderately expansive menu in an all you can eat format. Up to this point, I've gotten exactly that. Though, my trip on Tuesday June, 24th has convinced me to write this review and likely not return. First, I'll start with the good. My group of 5 had a reservation at 6:30, and we were promptly seated at 6:30, given waters and the menu to order. After that, it was all pretty much down hill. After putting in our first order, we were served within 15 minutes, though the server forgot a number of items (since it's all you can eat and it was busy, we figured we would just order those items the next go-around). Upon finishing our first order- it took about 15 or 20 minutes for the staff to notice and come around with a second order sheet. Though once they came around with it, we filled it out and returned it. Then came to the waiting- about 40 minutes of it. We asked the staff a few times what happened to our order, and each time we were either disregarded or were told "it's coming." After enough waiting the staff brought us back new order sheets because our original order sheets were lost. At this moment, my group was considering leaving due to all the waiting but we decided to give round two one more chance- that was the wrong decision. After waiting another 25-30 minutes with no food, and the surrounding tables being served again and again we inquired what happened to our order. The staff apologized and indicated it was busy, though from our observations it appeared our table was the only one that continuously got disregarded. My group was about to finally leave when our order was slowly being brought out. Item by item- 5 minutes apart (and of course- with items missing). After eating the remaining sushi that was served, we asked if we can have to ice cream we ordered about 40 minutes earlier- and we did end up getting it- 10 minutes after making our final request. Upon getting the bill, our group asked to talk to the manager to ask about a discount due to the disappointing service. The manager quickly said they do not give discounts for slow service or forgotten items. My group then decided not to tip- a decision we do not take lightly. We understand servers are typically underpaid and rely on tips to get by, but to some degree there needs to be respectable service for a tip to be given. After paying, a few members of my group went down to the bathroom (myself included). When we came back up to our seats I discovered the servers took the gluten free sauce I brought (since Sushi palace does not accommodate originally with gluten free soy sauce). Typically I would say something and try to get it back, but myself and my group was so fed up we decided to leave. But the story does not end there! While trying to leave our server cut us off at the exit and said, "You can't leave, you have to tip." A little shocked we explained once again that over the course of our meal we were often forgotten about and had items not given to us. Our server still in front of us at the door kept demanding we tip. Nowhere on the Sushi Palace website nor on the check does it indicate tips are built-in to the bill or required. Eventually the manager came over again, asked the server to step away from the door and we left. I was going to leave a 2 star review before being stopped at the door- but being confronted at the door made it easy to change this to a 1 star review. read more

This was an all-you-can-eat spot that had plenty of options. The space was smaller than I thought but did have a closed off location for private events it seemed like. The service was okay as it tended to slow down the more we ordered, but suppose that is the point. I will not share everything I tasted, but just give a few of the items tried. From the kitchen, the best item tried was surprisingly the miso soup. There was plenty of tofu present and came out very hot, which was nice to see. The broth was refreshing. The vegetable lumpia was also tasty. The rice vinegar enhanced the overall flavor. Regarding the sushi, I had some regular hand rolls, sashimi, and special rolls. They seemed to be of decent quality, but lacked in consistency as we ordered a few items more than once with different results. I was most intrigued to try the mushroom avocado roll as I do not believe seeing that before. The combination of mushroom and avocado was definitely interesting but grew on me after a couple of bites. Pretty good experience for ayce sushi in the Somerville area. The restaurant is loud (even on weekdays during the night!) and moderately crowded so it took ~10 minutes to get a table for 3. We ordered a variety of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. Each one was of good quality for the amount of food ordered. The specials were also great, specifically the sesame tuna! To be honest, the food here isn't bad, but it's not the best quality sushi I've had. But for the amount of food you can order, I believe it's worth it. We started out by trying the red snapper and calamari, which were decent, but nothing special. I really liked their eel, and enjoyed most of the rolls. The Edison roll stood out to me the most as my favorite, though I strongly disliked the butterfly roll and felt like it was a poor combination of flavors. In terms of service, Sushi Palace is very quick and has very helpful staff. They were constantly cleaning off any empty plates and accommodated all of our needs. The inside of Sushi Palace is clean, though the tables feel cramped and the interior doesn't stand out in terms of appearance. Sushi Palace delivers sushi rolls and sashimi as well as a variety of freshly-made traditional Japanese dishes (teriyaki, udon, tempura, etc.) at a reasonable price with a laid-back and no-frills ambiance. Diners can place their orders either à la carte (paying for each item ordered) or on an 'all-you-can-eat' basis (currently, $29 for lunch or dinner on Monday through Thursday; $31 for lunch or dinner on Friday through Sunday) that includes soup, salad, anything on the menu, and even ice cream (if you have room for it after your meal). They're back!! I know, dealing with pricey take out all throughout the past few years had been enough to make anyone a bit bitter. I decided on a whim to check if they are doing all you can eat yet and they are! Prices are reasonable especially if you go heavy on the sashimi of buttery salmon. It's still BYOB and perfect place for a lively date night or going out with friends. Tuna on its own can be a little fishy but the white tuna was delicious. I always come here for all you can eat (AYCE) sushi and it never disappoints. There's a variety of appetizers and specialty rolls that will fill you up until you can't move anymore. Even if you don't like fish, there are actually tons of options for you, such as udon, tempura, etc. My personal favorite dishes are the spicy seaweed salad, any of the tempuras, and the edamame. For the sushi, I love the mango ones. It's literally just a piece of mango on top of rice! I also really like the Yummy roll (so good) and the Dragon roll. It's always great to go in large groups because you can try a bunch of different stuff together. When we were there this time, there was a seasonal snowflake roll. It just takes like the spicy seaweed salad as a roll, so it was great! Also, to top off your meal, you can get AYCE ice cream. The flavor is really great for the chocolate and green tea ice cream. They have a red bean ice cream, but I personally think the flavor is dull and tastes like vanilla. I believe Sushi Palace is takeout only for the moment. I've ordered through various delivery apps and done pick up. In all cases, food is ready faster than estimate. Takeout packages are securely wrapped and hot items (soups, noodles, etc) are separated from cold (sushi). I really appreciate the care they take into making sure your meal makes it home with your safely. I am not a huge sushi eater and usually get a chicken or pork katsu bento box. I prefer the pork because the chicken is typically overcooked/dry. One time I ordered chicken teriyaki for a friend and the chicken was very tender and not overcooked at all, so I may have gotten unlucky. The bento is perfect after a long day when you're hungry and indecisive. The tempura vegetables are great - I wish I could replace all the sides with them (but the shumai and california roll are fine too). We really like the food, but we've had to create a process to enjoy it. They package the hot items in the same bag as what should be cold items. So we always put the cold things in the fridge and allow extra time to get the food cold again, which of course affects the quality unfortunately. It seems this problem could be solved by simply putting the hot items in a separate bag. I've requested this every time, to no avail. Sometimes it's more frustrating g than others, and I've started cooking my own edamame to have with the meal to avoid ordering a hot items. I can't mandate everyone into my family into ordering only cold things though so, the problem persists. They also are stingy with the soy sauce, including only one serving for clearly 3 orders, so we have to divvy up the sauce because we all like differing amounts of wasabi. Half of the people at my table ordered all you can eat sushi. At least 5 different workers consistently hovered around our table and would stare at our table and our food... the entire time we were there. I can understand a little enforcement behind following the all you can eat rules but this was horrendous. Uncomfortable environment, completely unwelcoming. Felt as though we were being scrutinized the entire time. And on top of all that, the sushi tasted like they got it from the dumpster behind the local 7-Eleven. read more
