I went here with my boyfriend thinking it would be a change of atmosphere from our other sushi place we always love and enjoy. The employees are nice but rush you with everything. I got suspicious when our sushi came out quick since at the other place it takes awhile. I didn't enjoy the seaweed salad since it tasted bland and dry. The fried calamari tasted burnt and I knew that before I even tried it since the color was a lot darker. Not even being there for 10 minutes a mother with a baby starts screaming at the waiter for trying to charge her baby the full price... really low of them to do since the baby wasn't eating anything and just having water. Been coming here for years there's a few ways to breakdown Sushi Palace, quantity and price. Quantity wise the unlimited ends up being worth while. Provided that you pace yourself you can get through a good variety of pieces. Some are great and some are a miss depends really that one is looking for. Price at 25~ it's decent given the volume. Obviously if you went piece by piece there's more variance in cost. I will say this much: with all the new sushi options in the area menus are getting really creative. I feel like sushi palace hasn't changed in years menu wise. Not sure if that's good or bad but something maybe they should consider? Came here on a Friday around noon. We chose the AYCE menu, which was really good for $22/person considering the menu included appetizers. But then, we also drove for about 25 minutes. We started with the appetizers which consisted of: Shrimp tempura - typical frozen then fried flavor, but still decent. Spicy seaweed salad - it was my first time trying it, but it was actually the most appetizing part of the whole meal. Chicken teriyaki - subpar. It tasted like the kind that the Chinese place serves around here: grilled chicken cult with some bottled teriyaki sauce and sesame sprinkled on top. Lumpia - it was actually a vegetable spring roll served with a sweet vinegar. Not actual lumpia. Again, probably frozen then fried. (Lucky it was pretty good. My boyfriend was excited as it is one of his absolute favs at the Filipino places) The sushi was, to say the least, not too memorable. We ordered a few varieties: spicy tuna, eel, lobster, and some other really in memorable rolls whose names I can't even remember. The spicy tuna and lobster something roll pieces were interchanged in presentation, so I guess the chef thought it would look appealing. It was plan confusing. They looked exactly alike, and were both mushy, but the only difference was the taste - one was savory and the other was sweet. Not the best spicy tuna I've had at all. It was actually the worst... And spicy tuna rolls are my go-to rolls. My boyfriend liked the eel rolls the most, but that was expected, because they were cooked, but to me, they just didn't taste that great. Too fatty. All the other rolls were unmemorable, because toward the end, I remembered all these reviews about the surcharge, so we decided to suck it up and eat. We also had the green tea and red bean ice creams, where the green tea was the clear winner. The heavy green tea taste was a really good palate cleanser. Will be going to Ichi Umi the next time we want to go to an AYCE. I am very torn about this place right now, because I have gone here many times and I have absolutely loved it, but the last time I went, everyone in my party got very sick. The other times I have visited this place, however have been very good experiences and the food has always been top notch. Let's start with the good things about Sushi Palace. The people who work here are always very nice and quick to seat you and take your order. They are always polite and nice when they talk to you. Another positive is that the restaurant always seems clean. I have never seen bugs or any dirt for that matter. You can see the place where they prepare the sushi for you and it always looks clean. Finally, my favorite thing about Sushi Palace is the fact that it is all you can eat. At roughly $20 per person, you are going to get very good quality sushi at a decent price. There are other places where you can get sushi for less, but, in my opinion, the quality is not as high. Now to the bad experience that I had at Sushi Palace. First, I want to disclose that this is the only time I have had a bad experience at this place and that it was not just me who got sick. We had six people in our party and 5 of hem got sick. Three of us ordered from the all you can eat sushi menu and the other three ordered from the dinner menu. Nothing really seemed off about the sushi as it tasted good and look fresh. The problems started when we got home. Some of us developed stomach problems and others, myself included, developed very bad flu-like symptoms. Flash forward two weeks and I am still recovering from pneumonia that I got from there. Again, I want to seriously stress that this has been my only bad experience there and it will likely not deter me from going back because something like this can happen at any restaurant if someone in the kitchen is sick. In conclusion, I would say that I like Sushi Palace because the value you get for your dollar is good and the overall experience is usually a positive one. The people are very friendly and the restaurant is usually clean. Just because I got sick going here, as did some of my friends, I would probably go back because it was my only bad experience here after going more than ten times. I am someone who is willing to give every place a second chance, but if something similar happens every again, I would totally give up on this place. Incredible sushi experience as everything is made to order. The Edison Roll is simply amazing. The appetizers are a neat addition to the meal as are the soups. I had some sashimi, and the quality of the fish was nice. That said, if there is a large group in there watch out. We sat next to a group of maybe 20, and their food took a LONG time to come out. The guys making the rolls were so backed up we waited for a long time for our food, and listened to the large group complain about missing food our entire meal. I have been to this place a few times but not an more. The manager attempted to charge my group and I an additional $7 for not eating the 8 pieces of sushi left at out table. Out of spite I sat there and ate a few of the pieces and just stared angrily at the manager. This is ridiculous considering the restaurant was busy and we all ordered a bunch of food. There are times when it's super busy but the servers are pretty attentive and times when my family and I have been one of 4 parties, and despite the 5 servers, no one came to our table for some time. Most of the rolls taste pretty good, but the sashimi is pretty questionable. The shape and size of the salmon change with each order and freshness is definitely not a word to describe the taste... it tastes a bit fresher than costco salmon if you can imagine that. This place is delicious, but I don't really think it's worth the price. Maybe I just don't order expensive enough rolls. They have an extremely varied menu, including lots of veggie rolls for vegetarians like me--my favorite is the sweet potato roll. They've also got a variety of soups and appetizers, all included in the all-you-can-eat price. The service is pretty quick, even when the place is busy, and the waitstaff is friendly. The buffet isn't self-serve, and it's not pre-made. The waitstaff gives you menus and pencils, and you mark down what you want and then they take it back to the kitchen. Everything is fresh and delicious. They charge you extra if you leave uneaten sushi on your plate. I don't really have a problem with this--sushi is expensive and this place would hemorrhage money if people were able to just load up their plates and not finish eating. They're also not that strict about it: I've had them tell me to eat a couple more pieces and they won't charge me. They don't just blindside you with an extra charge. When I came here with friends, we were just going balistic with our orders, and we were pleased with just about every round of sushi we received. I make sure I'm always stuffed with lots of sushi, soup, seaweed salad, ice cream, etc. As I read the reviews here, I'm shocked by how terrible the service was for some people. I have to admit, the service isn't that great: sometimes you don't know if they actually understand you, you might not get enough menus to order from or get your food on time. I really do love the food at this place & I've been here multiple times. After last night I really don't think I'll ever go back there again. From the moment we walked in we got constant dirty looks and side eyes. Our waitress was rude from the moment she brought out our drinks. Every time we asked for anything she rolled her eyes. She never once came to check up on us while we were eating & when we finished I constantly tried getting her attention to ask for the bill & she never came EVEN AFTER PASSING ME AND LOOKING RIGHT AT ME. After 20 minutes I asked another waitress & she said yes. We waited about 20 minutes. We still had a couple rolls left on the try that we wanted to bring home. I understand the not wanting to waste fish but when the second waitress came back she said we had to pay to take it home. Mind you this place definitely got expensive because we were three people & the total was almost $100. IT TOOK 40 MINUTES FOR SOMEONE TO COME OVER AND TELL US THAT THOUGH. We ate the rest of the pieces & paid. We didn't leave much of a tip. After we signed the tip and got up and started to leave the waitress that gave us the check was checking how much tip we left & looked mad. YOU RLLY THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA LEAVE A BIG TIP FOR THE SERVICE WE GOT. OUR ORIGINAL WAITRESS NEVER LOOKED AT US AGAIN AFTER GIVING US OUR FOOD. Service is OK in terms of speed.. there were only 2 other tables and it took a few moments extra than i expected to bring us our food. We left two pieces of sushi and no one yelled at us lol. The location inside is very welcoming, warm and there's plenty of spacing. Staff is okay, most of them don't speak a lot of English and sometimes, they rush to give you the check. There's a wonderful menu selection: tempuras, teriyakis, appetizers, sushi rolls, sushi, noodles, udon, etc. They make everything fresh (after you order it) so that's nice. The quality of the sushi was okay (for $20, you get unlimited sushi so I'm not expecting anything grandeur). I personally feel that perks are that everything is made-to-order and it's unlimited, but I'm more concerned with the quality of the food and Sushi Palace did not "wow" me. Sushi palace and their sushi is not bad (in terms of freshness) and hits the spot. There are multiple locations around New Jersey, and I went to four of them. I can definitely say that the four are extremely different in quality and service. A reoccurring event at this particular Sushi Palace location is how they "forget" or ignore a huge chunk of your order. This happens at the other locations also, but never to the extent that this location does it. It's happened to me when I came here with 2 people, 5 people, 8 people- every single time. This is super frustrating since you have to reorder and wait for a very long time, after which you may not even get all the things you reordered AGAIN. We confronted the waitress in why this was happening and she became speechless, blinked a few times, and literally just walked away. I've never seen service like this before- but at least this confrontation made a great conversation. I was not aware that you could choose from lunch special/regular menu $9 - $12. Not a single piece of solid tuna, rather it appeared to be from tuna in a can. Spicy? No spicy mayo. Rice was undercooked. The salmon bento box? Skip it. I went here on a recommendation from a friend, who asserted that the food quality was good and worth the cost. I walked in to find a very packed house, so clearly they had no problem attracting a crowd. I'd say it was mostly college age students, a few couples, not so many families but it was Tuesday. Got seated in a few moments, was with my parents. The seating was kind of annoying in that there's this one really long booth-type cushion seat that runs along the wall. Small tables are placed next to it at intervals, with chairs opposite the cushion seat. When people sit down or hit their back against the seat you can feel it down the row. It's annoying. Don't let your kids jump on it.. you'll definitely bother someone. The food was pretty good. I have to say it's one of the redeeming factors. There's two menus if you opt to go the buffet route. One is kitchen and the other Sushi/Sashimi. You just write in the # of orders of whatever you want, and flag the waitress down. The kitchen menu has pretty standard openings for Japanese cuisine- house salad with the ginger dressing, miso soup, as well as udon dishes and tempura, even dessert on the bottom. The sushi/sashimi menu is very detailed and portions for the rolls were more than enough for me. Sashimi comes in one piece per order, but go that way if you don't want to fill up on rice. Good cuts. The service was the damaging part of the experience for me. They need to improve the way they micromanage the orders, because dishes were completely missed more than 3 separate times, switched with a neighboring table once, and the waitresses were hard to get ahold of if we wanted to order more food. People are probably going to say how service usually isn't that great at Asian food joints but to you I say, for $18.95 on a weekday I'd like my food and good service, thanks. All you can eat sushi for $20 lunch, and $25 dinner. Overall: They give you a paper menu and you check off what you want and put numbers for quantity. They then come out 15-20 minutes later with huge platters for your order. They have a decent selection, with seaweed salad, various tempuras, teriakis, green tea and red bean ice cream, all the major sashimis and sushis you want. Quality of Fish: I would say the fish is close to average for freshness. The salmon sashimi is usually quite alright, but their tuna is kind of dry and stringy(not too great of a cut), and their white tuna is also a bit stringy, lacking that silky softness you love in white tuna. no toro(fatty tuna) sorry. Variety of Roles: nothing special here, various mixes of sashimis and shell fish and sauces and rice. You'll find the typical "dragon rolls", "california rolls" but nothing special to talk about. Note: only order what you can finish, they will charge you if you leave leftover fish at the end. Owners are definitely not japanese. I don't think the sushi chefs are japanese either. I end up coming here occasionally, but I usually end up less than fully satisfied, being too full on average quality sushi. read more

I'm going to keep this blunt; the food is the same and the service is same lackluster nonsense. However, today when I went with my boyfriend and my sister they decided to add an automatic 15% tip onto the total bill. On their site from what I've seen, they only charge this for parties of six or more. Obviously, we brought it up and we were met with the rude, accent-heavy manager who claimed that if we do not leave this tip she would make sure we would have no service given to us next time! One thing lead to another and she took the charge off the bill. We still paid a 15% tip and left a note saying that it wasn't about tipping, but about the principle.
