This place just beat the other two places I used to go to for Sushi in North Vancouver. I like their sushi better, their service better and the environment better. Conveniently located central to many retail stores with plenty of free parking. The experience here is a testament to their quality and standard. Because they have been around for a very long time. Pretty Cool. However, I did go back to dine in and the experience was pretty different. It was Saturday evening on the 22 of November. We had a server who was unfriendly and unprofessional. Sushi Man is my go-to inexpensive sushi spot in the North Shore. The food isn't incredible, but it's decent, and a bargain at the price it's offered at. Never had friendly service when we dined in. Asked for our gyozas to come first once as our appetizer and we actually had to wait til we were done the rest of our food before they came out. Sloppy presentation. They have gotten my pick up order wrong twice, I only found out once when I got home and I smartened up the second time and checked before I left. Local friend introduced here for pick up sushi. There is a big menu board with picture just side of cashier and it was very helpful when we were hurry. So I ordered B box which has udon, California roll and tempura set. (For picnic, I'm more comfortable with California roll, just in case). The set of tempura includes two prawns, two yum and one zucchini. Generous portion for under $10 lunch. Honestly I was surprised with quality and value for that price. Udon soup has good balanced broth, California roll has less rice/more inside and crunchy warm tempura. Not soggy at all. Only minus point was way too sweet tempura dipping sauce. I had high hopes of this place as it's always busy whenever I drive by. The price point of the sushi is also very affordable but don't let that fool you. The quality of the sashimi isn't the greatest. It tasted old and was slightly warm, which was unfortunate since when I did take out I had to wait for my order to be ready, got home within 5 minutes and ate it right away. on my way to capilano suspension bridge, thought of grabbing dinner somewhere in the north shore... did a quick search on yelp and found this hidden gem in north van right on marine drive. located in a strip mall with lots of parking. brightly lit and sample menu offerings plastered on the wall. place felt like a family run biz . i tried the salmon teri box! it was good. fish was cooked right. cali rolls were so soft and moist. even the crab was soft and tender. you can tell, its rolled to order and not just made in advance sitting somewhere in a cooler. it tasted so fresh. fresher than most good establishments in the lower main. the shrimp tempura was just average. more breading than shrimp. tempura sauce was a bit weak and had no ginger in it. but overall, portions are huge and prices reflect good value. an aspect that needs improvement is the service. servers seem to being called. no eye contact and pretends to be busy. hard to ask for tea or water refill. it shows on their faces they get paid min wage and hate it. lol. tables needs to be wiped down better and not just on the fly. for a quick japanese bite to eat, this place solves that issue. would go back and try the other things. cheers and happy eating! read more

Our go-to place for sushi or a quick meal in North/West Van. We like the laid back atmosphere (casual dress, we bring our baby sometimes), the place is clean, and the service is fast. It's also very affordable, for all we can eat the two of us usually pay about $30-40 depending on if we have drinks. The specials are good, and people recommend the bento boxes though I've never tried one. We always get the agedashi tofu, yam tempura, chicken/beef yakisoba, yam avocado roll, and veggie rolls. All very delicious. My only complaint is the miso soup, which I usually love but which comes with crab meat instead of tofu (I don't eat seafood). Still, pretty small complaint. I gave them four stars because while it's tasty and the price is good, it isn't a knock-your-socks-off kind of place. For date night sushi we typically go somewhere like Sushi Bella, which is more pricey but has a nicer ambience and better presentation. For a casual meal though, we love this place. read more

I live out of town. The sushi man is a go to stop every time I have been in vancouver. I've been going for 10 years. The food is always great, the price is nearly unbeatable, and service staff are some of the nicest people. I recommend anyone who wants lots of vey good food for reasonable prices to visit the sushi man. Today I went to the sushi man and it was great as usual. The food was good and the staff were their usual happy people. When I walked in the asked me for proof of vaccination and ID as per British Columbia guidelines. I showed it to them and was seated. About 5 minutes later a man walked in and wanted to be seated. They asked him for his proof of vaccination and ID. He flipped out and became very hostile with the servers. He was unable to provide valid proof of vaccination, unable to provide I'd and was not wearing a mask. After an approximately 10 minute exchange he left. At that point I thought it was over and went back to my meal. It was not over, buddy came back just to antagonise the staff some more. He yelled "this is racial profiling" and then stated he would " write a yelp review declaring how racists the staff were and how bad the food is" every month for the next year. No person deserves to be treated as I saw today. The servers were nothing but respectful and professional. They treated everyone the same. It's not their fault the government mandated masks and proof of vaccination. And they are doing the right thing by following through with government regulations. The servers were incredibly hurt by the notion that they could be called racist and I will be logging on every month for the next year to so I can bullshit on his yelp review (if he follows through). I hope the staff who had to deal with him have a great day and know that guy is the real loser cause now he will miss out on the delicious sushi offered by the sushi man. Was good! My partner and his friend sure got a lot of sushi for a small price, sooo that's good. I ordered gyoza, which was delicious, and deep fried California rolls, which were also good, but not near as good as Lynn Valley Sushi. Our server was really nice! First I would like to point out that ever since I was a little kid, I've always been a huge fan of sushi. I used to come here because I thought their sushi was okay but I haven't had a chance to swing by to this restaurant for several years because I found a better restaurant. Recently I decided to come by and order some takeout during lunch time. Unfortunately the quality had somewhat decreased. I had ordered a Nigiri combo. The raw fish portions was okay, it wasn't special or anything but the rice was where it had disappointed me. I ordered some sashimi and a nigiri combo and taken it home. As soon as I got back, I placed it in the fridge like I always do because I had to do a couple things before I start chowing down on them. As soon as I was ready, I started eating them but immediately I noticed the rice was slightly harder than a average sushi rice should be. Please keep in mind that I often put my sushi in the fridge because I usually have a couple tasks I needed to do first before chowing down whenever I bring my sushi home and I never had a single problem with any other joint's rice until I had theirs. This is kind of disappointing because I actually did like sushi man when I first ate there several years ago. I guess after a while, as things get more expensive due to inflation, better quality will be harder to find and worsen the quality gets. read more

But the size of the portions are small, the sushi pieces are tiny and this shrimp yakisoba joke... Went to Sushi Man for the first time as its very visible from the side of the road. Looks smaller on the inside. Greeted in a haste. Have a seat. Sit down to order and it looks like standard North American Japanese wannabe food. Its not too pricey and portions are Ok. Food is medium quality but not terrible. Standard. Service was under par. Cold and un personal service more typical of a Chinese restaurant. Sushi rolls are not bad. The Sushiman, for those of you who haven't been yet, i recommend it for reasons i personally love. The quality of food is excellent and the service matches it. They're quick to take your order and the food is ready within minutes. Atmosphere is that of a typical sushi bar. If you're looking to get in, eat some very affordable sushi and get out all within a strict time limit, look no further because the Sushiman is perfect for you. Does not like when anyone points out his mistakes or changes up an order. Eat and then get out. The sushi was cut into different sizes and thus I nearly got TMJ or a locked jaw from trying to eat it. The knife used was fishy tasting and so my vegetarian plate was tasting of salmon or the like Server did not come back to check to see if food ok or give me the bill. They only know how to seat you here or take your money if you order out The rice was hard, the plating of the "BOX" was greasy and messy...I don't think the BOX was actually washed well. This is my teenage son's favourite place for sushi. I love it as well. I usually order for pickup and it's ready quickly and the order is always right: in particular, I have the veggie box. The tofu is always perfectly done and the portion size is great. You get great value and large portions. The front desk staff are friendly and very organized. Their lunch specials allow you to choose from three different rolls of sushi for around 6 bucks, which is a filling amount of food for a mid-day snack and won't break the bank. The service is friendly and quick, though the taste of the vegetarian sushi leaves a little bit to be desired. I have yet to find a vegetarian sushi that meets the tasty punch of Minato Sushi on Broadway in Vancouver, though I wouldn't hesitate to visit Sushi-Man again given the chance. Sushiman was a quick stop sushi lunch for me after going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. I was very impressed with two things: the freshness of the sushi and the price. It was $6.95 for two rolls and 1 maki along with a miso soup. Amazing. The salmon was fresh and tasty. The BC Roll had a nice crispy salmon skin that went well with the BBQ sauce. Although a little westernized, I appreciated the cheap meal and good quality fish. My sister ordered the bento box which was packed with food. My mother, who usually doesn't like Japanese food, did admit that the fish is very fresh and tastier than other places. The miso soup was good and so was the agadeshi tofu! I ended up forgetting my phone in the restaurant and returned about 30 minutes later when back tracking myself. The waiter had kept the phone on hold under the cash register to see if I returned. We almost wanted to walk away and get out. The problem is that servers are all family members so there is no training or professionalism involved. Very ignorant and unprofessional.
