It definitely had potential if the rice wasn't over cooked or swollen from being made with too much water. That's how Asians prepare food for babies by adding extra water. I work as a nurse at Duke. I happened to forget my lunch that day, so a few coworkers and I decided to order lunch from Sushi Love. I decided on the spicy noodles with chicken. I opened my container and there were NO NOODLES. Only chicken, bell peppers, and sauce that was so salty it made the entire dish inedible. When I called and tried to get my order sent correctly, I was not given any help at all. It was incredibly disappointing that they were not willing to help me get the right food or give a refund for a mistake that they made. All I was told is to take it up with Door Dash, and I only got a few dollars back from door dash. So I had to pay for something completely wrong and inedible because of the carelessness of Sushi Love. Came here Thursday evening for some dinner with friends and was pleasantly surprised with their half price sushi options. Ended up getting a green wave roll & an order of scallop and salmon sashimi. The green wave roll was good - originally $15 but $7.50 with the half price deal. I was also really pleasantly surprised with how fresh and sweet the scallop was. I ordered takeout tonight for myself and my partner and the person taking my order seemed confused about finding some items in the system as I overheard her asking a coworker. Ok, fine, maybe she is new. I made sure things were repeated and it seemed it would be correct. When I got home, some of the order was correct but some of it was missing or wrong, and we ended up with some extra things we didn't want. I called back and tried to explain, and spoke to the same person I believe. It was a 20 minute drive for me and it was getting late so I didn't feel I should have to go back, but I would have if I had to. I was starting to request a partial refund, for not a large portion of the bill, because they clearly made mistakes and we were missing food we had ordered. Instead of try to accommodate me or bringing it to a manager, she began to argue with me about what it was I had ordered in the first place! I was ordering from website photos with descriptions my partner sent me. She seemed to say at first that something got switched by mistake, but then began to talk to me like I couldn't read a menu. Let me start off with the interior, it was decent with both the bar section and the dining section. With the acceptable environment, the service was subpar at best. We had a group of 5 who arrived early while one other friend and I came in late. We didn't get our glass of water till we were seated for more than 10 minutes and it took us forever to receive a menu. The food came to us pretty quickly, but it was a disappointment. My friend had a salad with slices of beef, the vegetables on the plate was nice, but only problem was that the beef was well done and it tasted like beef jerky. My lunch box was mediocre, at least the waiter did get that I didn't want avacado in my sushi roll and the combination of the two was exactly why it wasn't one-star. Atmosphere: Sushi Love is a great place for casual sushi with friends. There are TV's and a bar. Service: Our server, Ivy, has always been a warm, smiley face at Sushi Love. The sushi comes out pretty quickly, especially considering the complexity of some rolls. Food: Here are the rolls we have tasted so far. Note: all rolls are buy one get one free! -Tornado Roll: This roll was messy but certainly very fulfilling! The sauce can be a bit overwhelming but you definitely feel full after eating the tornado roll. -Vegas Roll: A yummy roll... but could be better. The biggest thing lacking from the Vegas Roll is better quality tuna. The tuna was a bit gummy, but other than that, the roll had a perfect assortment of sauces and sushi. -Crazy Roll: A little bit ironic that this is called the crazy roll as it is one of the more simplistic speciality rolls. Nonetheless, the crazy roll was delicious and not overly spicy. -Sake (Salmon) Sashimi: I've definitely had better salmon sashimi for equal or cheaper price. However, it still had good texture. -Blue Devil Roll: Pretty solid roll--this seems to be one of Sushi Love's most popular rolls. I personally felt that the filet mignon didn't pair with the rest of the roll very well, but everything else was delicious. -Samu Roll: One of my favorite rolls! I love how there are so many flavors in this roll--shrimp tempura, eel, flounder, avocado... each bite is different, which makes the roll so great. -Sneaky Spider Roll: I'm not a big fan of wasabi, so I didn't like this roll as much. I didn't expect the kimchi wasabi to be so overpowering, but it was hard to enjoy the rest of the roll because I only tasted wasabi. The filet mignon didn't pair too well with this roll either. -Sunrise Lava Roll: This roll definitely has potential, but there's just so much spicy mayo sauce that you can barely taste the rest of the roll. The sauce and the content of the roll were good, but I just wish there was a better balance between the two! Overall: Sushi Love's menu can be overwhelming but if you choose the right rolls, you get a great meal that is worth your money. We've had experiences as good as 5 star as well as some towards 2 or 3 stars. The buns were perfectly steamed but sported only a dab of sauce and a sliver if overcooked fatty duck (the veggies were okay?). Super dry and basically inedible. The Lobster Roll was minced overcooked meat in a sea of celery on dry bread. Pretty awful. So, sushi is prob a safe bet but I'll be avoiding the rest of the menu. read more

I recently came in for lunch at Sushi Love and could not believe how satisifying their bento box was! The meal came with a sushi roll of your choice, appetizer, side salad, rice and lunch entrée; that's a lot for lunch and all for $11.50! I ended up ordering the orange chicken, spicy tuna roll and pot stickers, all of which were so delicious! I couldn't finish the whole bento box and just boxed it up for lunch the next day. I've also been to Sushi Love for dinner and enjoyed their BOGO special, always ordering the dragon roll and trying out some other specialty roll. So far, I haven't found one I didn't like. When people ask about BOGO sushi places in Durham, Sushi Love is always at the top of the list with their great location and delicious rolls. I will say that I used to think their rolls were a bit bland but on my most recent visits, they've tasted fresh; maybe things have changed? The service has always just been okay here and I do want to note that they don't split checks if you're ordering the sushi rolls. If you're planning to check them out, I'd recommend looking at their daily specials because Tuesday and Thursday they do half-priced sushi rolls. They have some drink specials as well. They claim most items are buy one get one free, yet stack rank the items on the bill so you pay for the most expensive half and the least expensive 'half' of the items are 'free'. Ok so deceptive pricing which they are defensive of when asked about/disputed. Seems like it's regularly an issue. Major poor form. The "ginger" was neon pink and inedible. The "wasabi" neon green. The market price "toro" was $16 for three pieces of sashimi and chewy. I've had a lot of toro... pretty sure it's not supposed to be chewy and fishy. It took us awhile to be seated even though it was a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not crowded...maybe they were short-staffed that night? We also waited for awhile at the table for our waitress to come by to take our order, but service picked up later on and we got our food quickly, and our waitress checked on us a few times. Initially we ordered 4 sushi rolls to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one-free daily deal, and the Saigon Street noodles. When we gave our waitress the order, she told us that the the way it works is that the higher price is always charged if we order rolls of unequal prices. For example, we wanted to order two $13 rolls and two $8 rolls. She told us we would be charged $26 for the 4 rolls because they calculate it as if we are paying for two $13 rolls and getting the $8 rolls for free...which surprised us. We decided to just get four $13 rolls since we were going to be charged the highest price anyways. The Saigon Street noodles were delicious: marinated beef with bean sprouts, spring rolls, roasted peanuts, rice noodles and vinaigrette on the side. It's not a big portion so I'm glad we also ordered the sushi rolls. We ordered the Blue Devil Roll, Black Widow Roll, Vegas Roll, and Caterpillar Roll. The Black Widow Roll (Soft shell crab tempura, crab stick, eel, cucumber and avocado topped with eel sauce) was definitely my favorite--the soft shell crab tempura was perfectly fried and flavorful. read more

The space inside is quite big with a bar in the back. I never ordered their cocktails so can't say much about that. They have booths and tables and great for big groups. The decor is alright.
