We LOVE this sushi restaurant! We have been going here for years and the quality is phenomenal, and priced very well. The sushi is LARGE and fresh!! Cannot rave enough, this is a staple for my family.

I've been on the hunt for a sushi spot that can stand up to my favorite sushi place. It seems that every place I try falls short in some department and I end up missing my favorite spot in the end. Well this changed today. I found a new place that's amazing!! To start off, the sushi was exactly how I like it. The rolls were soft, fresh and actually pretty large! Some sushi rolls can be on the smaller side but they were generous with the portion size. They offer a 2 roll or 3 roll sushi roll lunch combo that comes with soup and salad. It was really worth the money! I felt like I had a huge, filling lunch! I also tried Mochi ice cream for the first time. So freaking good! I just wish I had some more. I picked the strawberry and it tasted super creamy and had tons of flavor. Not bland at all. I also ordered Yakitori for the first time. I felt like the prices were really affordable compared to other places, especially when I took into account the quality of my food. So delish!

This is my favorite sushi spot in the area! I do think quality has gone down just ever so slightly in the last 1-2 yrs but price point and deliciousness still surpasses all others in the area. Typical lunch specials but even ordering rolls separately is reasonably priced. Sushi rolls always taste fresh! I am obsesssssed with their veg fried rice/hibachi fried rice. The hibachi noodles are good but not my fav. The iced Thai tea is also a pleasant surprise at a sushi spot but one of our favorite dessert treats! We order from here pretty consistently and never have any complaints or errors in our order. Most recently sat for dine in which was fine but not especially memorable in terms of ambiance. Will definitely continue to eat @ Sushi House!

Another amazingly beautiful meal along with excellent service. Look at these photos of this fresh delicious fish. Ashley and staff are professional and kind .. the fish is outrageously delicious. Great for 2, 4, 6 or 8. They gave a private room that fits 10 12 people. A must go ..

I have high expectations when it comes to sushi. Since moving to Dutchess County three years ago, I had yet to find a "regular" place until I tried Sushi House. I only tried one place by my house on two different occasions, both times disappointing. Sushi House was next to try. Nigiri is by far my favorite because it allows the rice & the fish to shine. I enjoy rolls and sashimi but don't typically eat cooked rolls, cucumber wrapped/soy paper rolls, and don't like filler such as fruit & cucumber. We've eaten at Sushi House twice and had takeout twice as well. Overall, the fish is good quality and well prepared. On our first visit, we went on a Saturday around 7 PM and we got a table right away, but many other tables were ordering sushi so it took a while for our platter to come out. On our second visit, we ordered the same platter but went earlier in the evening and the food came out much quicker. For takeout, we again ordered the same platter and were told 30 minutes. The food was packed and ready when we arrived. Service in the restaurant is very attentive even when busy. Each time, my husband and I had the sushi for two, which includes 18 pieces of nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and a special roll. They do not let you choose the special roll or swap the spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll is fine but as mentioned, I try to avoid rolls with filler. It is a packed, generously sized roll. The specialty roll included with the platter is the Rainbow roll (basically a California roll with fish on top). I don't typically eat California roll because I prefer raw fish to crab stick. Both rolls are fine, they're just not my personal preference for raw, unadulterated fish. The platter for two is beautifully arranged and arrives on a staircase with each step better than the next. It includes miso soup and a green salad. When we dined in the restaurant, we ordered our son the trio sushi (3 pieces tuna, 3 pieces salmon, 3 pieces yellowtail and a spicy tuna roll). He loves seaweed salad, and they allowed us to substitute the green salad for the seaweed salad and upcharged us $2-3 for the change. When we ordered takeout more recently, they would not let us substitute, even with the up charge. It is generously sized, arranged on a bed of cucumber. It seemed like the portion was slightly bigger when dining in the restaurant but because it was plated versus being in a takeout container, it's hard to be certain. I've enjoyed the Thai iced tea, which is a little steep at four dollars. The sushi for two is quite filling, especially combined with the soup and salad. The sushi lunch special is very reasonably priced and I was again craving sushi so I ordered online over the weekend. I had the three roll special (yellowtail scallion roll, salmon avocado roll, and salmon roll). I skipped the soup and salad and went right to the rolls. They were well-made and overall satisfied my craving but I felt like the fish was not as silky as the fish used for the nigiri. The pieces of fish were choppy/chunky, which I think contributed to them having more texture & chewiness. They were mostly good and tasted fresh but I prefer the nigiri. It's still better quality than many suburban places I have found. I ordered the beef negimaki to have later for dinner, but it was disappointing. Perhaps because I did not eat it right away, the scallions inside were very soggy but my issue was with the beef itself, which was very thin, raggy, and flavorless yet tasted of what I assume is the flattop they cook it on. It had a bitter, charred taste without actually being charred or seared. There was an aftertaste that was totally unpleasant and I could not finish it. The beef rolls were atop peppers and onions with the brown sauce but the quality of the dish suffered sitting on my kitchen table for a few hours until I ate it. The picture I took shows the dish as soon as I brought it home and by the time I ate it, the sauce had dripped down onto the vegetables leaving the meat bland, but the charred taste is not something that would have develop spontaneously. The quality of the takeout sushi is good but I think it tastes better freshly prepared when dining in the restaurant and eaten immediately. The nigiri is delicious and well prepared and presented, I just wish they were a little bit more lenient on substitutions, even if they have to upcharge, but overall, this will be our regular place for sushi. I'll skip the cooked dishes in the future and come here just for sushi as a result of the poor experience with the beef lunch special. But overall, I won't let one bad dish take away from my experience. The sushi is well prepared and fresh.

Terrible! My husband and I have been loyal customers for years and tonight when we called to place our order for delivery I was hung up on. We recently moved and have had delivery since moving. The woman on the phone took my order (which doubled their minimum for delivery and we are within the five mile radius for delivery) and only after giving her my address she stated that delivery was "turned off". When I asked for further explanation she repeated herself and when I didn't accept that as an answer she hung up on me. We will never order from Sushi House again due to their poor taste in customer service and follow through on advertised services. Bonsai it is for sushi from now on!

Consistently great rolls. I go there at least once a week and have never been disappointed. This is the best sushi place in Poughkeepsie.

This is the northernmost of three Bonsai locations in the area, located in a busy shopping/business/medical area on Route 9. Parking is ample in the giant shared lot, and seating is easy to come by outside of business lunch hours (M-F 12-1PM). In warmer weather, they also offer a nice outdoor seating area. In the middle of Poughkeepsie, am I looking for Michelin-grade sushi? Not really. I'm looking for fresh fish, vibrant color, and well cooked/seasoned rice. Clean presentation, decent prices. Does Bonsai offer this? Absolutely. On top of that, they have a great lunch special menu. It gets busy during the M-F lunch rush, so I like to order ahead or online for take out, or get there a bit earlier/later if I'm dining in.

Very light, hot and crispy. Pork ramen. Same as above. Pork was fair at best. Very fatty but tender. And what's with the corn in the ramen. That's for a cup of noodle. I was so happy to see Dimsum on the menu until I saw the prices! Way more expensive than what you get in the city! So I opted for the seafood ramen lunch special for $17 which came with a choice of 2 sides. Service was quick. The place was clean with a lot of tables. I read some of the reviews before coming here and they were right, the broth was not hot enough and was a little bland. So I was very disappointed. I decided to try their sesame balls despite the price - $8.49 for 2 pieces since I was already here hoping that would make it better. Unfortunately it also missed the mark. I saw other people order noodle dish and fried rice and left with clean plates - maybe those taste better. I really hoped this place would be good.
