Been coming to this place for many years, and not Once was told that for a group of 5 and above an 18% gratuity is automatically added. I've known the owner Sam as well so no disrespect, but for an added 18% of unknown charge is ridiculous IMO. Sam brotha, you need to teach your staff better and or put up signs to disclose that at the front door. Not to mention 10.4 tax on top of it. So for me it was $42 and some change not expecting to pay. Sorry, but this makes me sick to even think of ever going back. Moral of this post is to be ready for an unexpected 18% gratuity charge just for them to seat you, bring you water and bus your table when your done. I miss the old Sushi Hana! I really enjoyed coming here for the belt sushi and trying new things! They renovated the whole space and now you order on a tablet and the belt brings you the food. Not too much interaction with the employees until it's time to pay, everything else is done on a tablet. They also don't have any kind of lunch special, and it seems like they raised their prices a few times, some think it's because of the remodel. We had been going here for about 8 years. We used to go once or twice a week for a few years until we moved then our visits were less frequent. We really liked the new concept and started going more often. On our last visit we were not informed when being seated that we would be subject to an added gratuity. This bothered me mainly because our party of 5 consisted of 2 adults and 3 children under 9. The youngest being 4. To count a 4 year old as a cover to add on a tip is horrible. I then wondered if this has been happening every time we visited and didn't realize it. She only mentioned the added gratuity because she noticed I kept looking at the total being about $125 without tax but the total she charged our card was over $160. There is very little service provided, you order on a tablet at the table and besides water and any soup items everything comes to your table via trolley even soft drinks. We normally spend anywhere between $100-150 and sometimes there's only 2-3 of us we have always left 20%. The notice of the gratuity is apparently printed on the menu. But it should be on the tablet since you may not even look at the menu. The food is decent conveyor belt type sushi that got them the star. I used to recommend this place but no longer. I felt deceived based on where the added gratuity was posted and upset that any restaurant would count a 4 year old as a cover to add a tip. We will no longer patronize this business. read more

What a wonderful experience, Limited interaction with staff, and all ordering is done thru a kiosk, and drinks are delivered by a robot. What a cool shop, The small interaction that was had with the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Prices seemed a bit high for the quantity of food given, but overall this was great. I enjoyed eating here but my most recent experience may cause me not to return. They apply a service charge of 18% for groups of five or more. We are two adults and 3 youth kids. I don't consider this a "party" that would require extra attention from the server. Especially when the design of the restaurant is that a robot brings the drinks, I order my food from a tablet and a robot brings the food. Our meal was cut short because they had a cleaning crew arriving at close. Our waiter collected his 18% service charge by asking us to hurry up at 8:15. We were pretty much shooed out of the place and in our car at 8:27pm. They close at 8:30. They were removing condiments from our table while we were still eating. The food is meh but it's fun for our family. I left frustrated by the service charge. My bill was $150.21 for a family of two adults and three kids ages 8, 11 and 15. read more

Uhm, I've been going to Sushi Hana in Portland for almost 2 years and had high hopes for this place but yea it wasn't a let down. Starting with prices, Portland was much better off! Quality? This place has a few more selections that were new to me so I was excited. We came around 7-730 at night and there wasn't much to select from however it's always recommended to order from a server anyways to guarantee the freshness rather sitting on the conveyor for who knows how long. I really wanted to like the Garlic Seared Salmon but the crunchy garlic was TOO CRUNCHY. Actually hurt my teeth.. but flavor was great! The Salmon Skin Roll.. was a let down. I don't know what kind of sauce they use but it was not appetizing. Kind of a teriyaki sauce + fishy taste to it? And it wasn't the salmon skin, I tried the sauce on it's own. If a place has the house special roll, I'm all for it! This one however was again, disappointing! The egg wrapping was too thick.. and fell apart. It should be nice and snug.. What a shame to have left with great sadness from Sushi Hana's reputation for me. Not only that, service was extremely slow. Or more like, un-attentive. 3 servers and 3 staff making the sushi and none of them asked if we were needing anything.. We've made it thru more than half of their menu over the last couple years and havnt had a single thing we didnt like. Quality ingredients. My son Likes their chicken Katsu with a side of unagi sauce. One of my daughters loves their Ramen bowls and my other daughter and I try various rolls. The remodel is pretty but the sushi is way overpriced. $5 for 2 pieces of seared salmon. Their prices are similar to an actual sushi chef restaurant but the quality of fish doesn't deserve such a high price. Kura sushi is more worth it - better price & more variety. We were still hungry after 8 plates but we didn't want to spend anymore so we left. I think the high price is to pay for the new belts & remodel, not because of quality. This place sucks. A roll consists of three pieces. Read that again... a $5-$9 roll consists of 3 pieces. None of the sushi was fresh. Crunchy rolls weren't crunchy. And the Chicken Katsu wasn't Chicken Katsu. It was a heated up frozen breaded dry chicken patty over plain white rice. I wouldn't have paid half the price I paid for this slop. I've been here before they renovated the restaurant and I would say the place looks very nice! More space and tables and the design of the restaurant looks very modern. The monorail system replaced the conveyor belt system. It is a really nice fast way to serve food. It's kinda like Kura Sushi in Bellevue! The food I would say is very high quality! I really enjoyed all of the rolls and nigiri I had. The seared salmon had a nice buttery taste to it. The New Mexico had a good crunch texture to it with a little heat to it. Compared to other place I would say I would come here for quality, if you're looking for pricing/quantity then maybe this place is not for you! read more

Pre Covid this used to be a decent spot to scratch the sushi itch. Not sure what happened but as the interior got a makeover so did the quality and pricing. Quality of food tanked. The only dish that got better was the fried calamari BUT it doubled in price to $9. Salmon looks pale @ 5.50/pair. Flavor wasn't there...just ate it to fill my gut. Crab salad was probably the item that deteriorated the most. Tasted like playdoh. Speculation - trying to maximize the mayo, added water and then thicken it with flour or corn starch. End result, crab playdoh on top of rice. The worst part was that my wife got food poisoning. She got a couple rolls for herself (which no one else ate) and she was sick all night and the next morning. The remodel, new fancy water robot and food tram doesn't make up for the degraded food quality and increase in pricing. Also, the preparation of sushi in the kitchen (not in full like almost all other sushi restaurants) should've been a red flag. Wish this wasn't the case because we used to frequent this establishment prior to Covid. We won't be returning as the final cost with tip for water was comparable to the cost for dining at Fogo de Chao (not an exaggeration). read more

I used to come here all the time and liked it. Went to check it out after the remodel and the service I received was atrocious. I brought my 1 year old. Now, I don't have a very messy baby, but I'm a firm believer in cleaning up after kids in a restaurant. I forgot her plate but am not a huge germaphone so put her food on the table like we do in her high chair at home. A waitress comes by and says "do you want a plate for her" and I replied "no thanks, she will probably flip it over." The waitress says "can you at least put down a napkin or something she will get food everywhere" I responded with the fact I always clean up after my child. Maybe save the attitude for if she made a huge mess and I wasn't going to clean up. In the end, I made more of a mess than she did. When we were paying, my friend was playing with my child and she let out one single squeal of delight. Another waitress comes by and said "you are very loud." She's a happy child! Maybe she's never heard a baby cry and throw a fit. I will never be back. I have never felt so unwelcome just because I have a child. And my child made no mess and was very well behaved. I'm not sure if management changed during the remodel but someone outta brief them about the fact sometimes people bring kids in for sushi. An absolute disgusting experience. Had a great dinner at Sushi Hana tonight! Our first time checking out the cool sushi monorail. All the rolls we tried were excellent, the gyoza were delicious and the tempura shrimp was awesome (came out very hot and fresh with a perfect batter). I didn't get any pics because we were very hungry....next time. Definitely a spot worth checking out. We got there at 530 and it was busy but when we left at 630 it was packed so keep that in mind. read more

Conveyor belt sushi is for connivence not flavor. I always hope for fresh staple plates on the conveyor and then order anything specific or complicated. We walk in and stood for a good 10 mins until the sushi chef had to seat us. I'm not sure where the other staff was. I went here at 5:00PM on a weeknight so I assumed busy enough for the dinner rush to have the plates fresh, but early enough not to eat older fish. Zero stars!!!! I have eaten here a couple handful of times, but never felt one way or another enough to leave a review. It was simply close, convenient, decently priced sushi & rolls. I got a craving tonight so I ordered to-go. One Spider roll, 2 Paradise rolls ... both of which should have had avocado. After eating a piece of each roll I realized the avocado was missing. Upon further inspection, I was sad to find that only 2 of the 12/14 pieces actually had the SLIGHTEST smudge of avocado. I decided to call, hoping they would politely offer to make it right on my next order. Boy, was I wrong!!! I ended up talking to 3 different people over a 5 minute phone call. The second person (manager?) tried to dismiss my complaint by telling me that my roll was fine & it had the standard amount of avocado. I wasn't happy with that answer seeing as how "NO" avocado didn't seem standard for an item that listed avo as a main ingredient. They finally put the "chef" on the phone who RUDELY assured me that he made the rolls himself & he knew for a fact that every single piece had avo. Thoroughly peeved at this point, I told him that I would gladly drive my happy ass back through rush hour traffic to show him he was FOS but, if I had to inconvenience myself that I expected my next two visits to be one the house. He said no. Thankfully, there are camera phones & Yelp. You can decide for yourself. In the meantime, I will be getting my sushi elsewhere & talking mad shit about this place. The sushi is good and the inside dining experience is unique, since they've remodeled and have the monorail food delivery system. Just don't expect to be "served" by anyone, including getting anything to drink anything but water. They've raised the prices to pay for the amazing remodel, but its still less expensive than other sushi restaurants. Probably because they don't have to pay for servers. The takeout option is difficult to utilize. Their website doesn't allow for separate orders to be combined, so for our family of 4 we have to place 4 separate orders. After getting takeout 7 times now, 6 of them were wrong or missing items, requiring a second trip to get our items. Staff were argumentative but finally handed over the missing items. The food is good enough that its almost worth the hassle... almost. If ordering to-go, just be sure to check your order thoroughly before leaving! The lack of service, rude staff, incorrect orders, and raised prices combine to get just 1 star review. Im giving 2 stars just because the monorail food delivery system is a unique experience. It's conveyer belt sushi with a twist ... instead of a lot of dishes going round and round, you order from the electronic menu, and a sushi car (for lack of a better word) brings your order from the kitchen. It's quite novel, at least for me. You lift the lid, take out your food, and the car returns to the kitchen. What I like more than anything is the relatively small portions, and that you can order at will. Eat a couple dishes, order another, decide you are hungry enough for another so you order it. The menu has plenty of pictures so you have an idea of what you are ordering. The sushi was fresh, and the waitstaff friendly. I was preoccupied during my visit, so didn't really pay as much attention as I usually do. But I wouldn't think twice about returning, especially as close as I am. read more

I'd say it's 3.5 but bumped up to 4 due to generous serving size for appetizers and full rolls. It used to be conveyor belt style and the quality + prices are still the same. This is not your fancy sushi quality but good for it's category. They recently installed "monorail style." You sit at your table and order from an ipad. You can order in multiple installments and it will tally for you. You cannot order alcohol but some drinks (soda, tea, etc) are included on the monorail menu. I liked the whimsy of the monorail. I also liked the convenience (no waiting for wait staff to order, no praying they have your favorite or waving down a busy sushi chef). Also, I liked the fact that it tallys your amount so you can get a sense of your total (no sticker shock). Could be better? You can't pay at the ipad so after all the convenience of the ipad we had to wait for our server. Serves can't check out multiple tables at once, so she had a line and had to go back to the main desk between each check out. Also the "squirt bottle" wasabi was a little difficult. In addition, I wish that the ipad had roll ingredients -- we found ourselves frequently cross-referencing between the menu and the ipad. read more

Prices are higher than Sushiland but quality could be comparable, if not worse. For 3 people, we spent $60+ and that barley filled us up. They are super stingy about their food and barely gave us any creamy scallop per gunkan. The slices of fish were thin and they probably say it's because the prices for fish have gone up, but seriously, don't try to scam your customers. A few items I thought were good were the seared salmon, baked mussels, and agedashi tofu. The restaurant was quiet with barley any customers, but we had terribly slow service, both from our server and the chefs standing around talking to each other. I like conveyer belt sushi since we can eat more for less, but I felt uncomfortable ordering here because our server kept making comments about how much we were ordering. I should've said something then and there, but he would stop at our table for a second to just drop off food. We have been to this place for 5 times during the past 6 months and considered ourselves regulars. I would say 4 out of 5 times were good. The food was fresh and decent quality. Everything else, service, cleanliness was good too. Today we went there again for dinner and was expecting the same experience. We were wrong. The sushis tasted very old. The shrimp tempura was leathery and chewy. The eel was all skin. My husband's Philly roll had a big piece of salmon tendon in it, which was not able to chewed through by human teeth. It was just horrible. We did notified the server at the end, and all he said he was sorry. I would say 3.5 star before and one star today. I am not sure if I will go back again. read more

We had such a good meal here that it deserves a review. First and foremost, this place was renovated with health and safety in mind. It's hard to describe the new delivery mechanism, but basically a covered container zips out to your table, where you get your order. Lid for delivery boat was cleaned frequently. Next - super fast delivery. Every nigiri order was within 5 mins (we couldn't even keep up!). Quality: Tbh I'm not a sushi snob. I've had it all over the US and in Japan and my take is as long as it's not bad sushi, it's all fine! Service: Very friendly (a bit chatty), fast and helpful. You WILL need to flag them down because they are busy. Price: Oof. I know sushi is always expensive, so just expect it. I love eating at Sushi Hana. I love the fact that it is a conveyor belt sushi place that when you see something you like you just pick it up. The colored plates distinguish the price. Although it has gone up a little bit the food is still fresh. I try to come and eat here at least once a week if I can either during lunch or after work since I work so close to Sushi Hana. They are friendly and attend to you as much as possible refilling my tea and asking if I want anything. When you order make sure you get fresh ones if you don't see what you want on the belt. Very accommodating and clean. Highly recommend this place if you want decent, fresh sushi for the price you can't beat from other sushi place. read more
