The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious. The Gem roll is definitely my favorite, sweet and a touch of wasabi. I've yet to try dessert but it sounds fantastic. Don't pass this place up. read more

food is good, service is hit or miss. A little pricey for sushi but by far is the best in the local area

Had the hot paradise roll, and the special salmon roll. They were delicious!! Buy one get one free.

I really loved this place! We found out about it from a waiter at another restaurant. Four of us dined and we were all very pleased with our selections. We started off with chicken lettuce wraps it was awesome! The chicken mixture was kind of sweet and a little smoky. And there was plenty enough for four people. We also had as an appetizer edamame that was sprinkled with sea salt. That was a first for me was really good. My boyfriend had pepper steak, ginger salad and fried rice. It was so good and I really never like anyone's pepper steak. We had "Endless Love Roll" which has crab stick, boiled shrimp and cucumber inside with red row on the outside. It was good. The "Grand Canyon Roll" had shrimp tempura, avocado on the inside, a drizzle of eel sauce and sprinkled with tempura flakes- crunchy which was a good mix of textures. The Las Vegas Roll had crab stick, eel, cream cheese, slices of avocado, tempura style with eel sauce on it. The "My Love" Roll has salmon, spicy mayo, cream cheese with red roe on top. We also had The "Rainbow" Roll" which has crab stick, cucumber, avocado all rolled up in perfect harmony with salmon, whitefish and tuna on top! The " Crazy Roll" was crazy good. Which had spicy tuna, tempura shrimp and cucumber with a spicy mayo on top. They even have a 25% off sushi rolls every day special right now. Totally awesome!! Overall it was a great time for the tummy. Service was good. Will go back next year. read more

Great entrees and sushi. I had the yellowfin roll and rainbow roll, both contained raw meat and were delicious. Sesame chicken was good (you can find better) as well as the Kung pao chicken. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Hampstead. read more

This was my first visit. I ordered chicken hibachi. I asked if I could get fried rice without egg. I was told by the waitress that the rice is already made and they can't accommodate me. I ordered the jasmine rice instead. I asked for extra rice since I didn't want the veggies. She told me there were no substitutions allowed. My meal was very served and it was good. On my way out I asked to speak with the manager and made him aware of my problems ordering. He apologized and stated they would have made me fried rice if he had known. He also stated that the owners make it very clear to the wait staff that there are no substitutions but he would have given me extra rice. At these prices they should be more flexible. read more

Wow! It's superbowl Sunday today n every place we went to was not open....Everything happens for a reason...this place is awesome! We found it on yelp and I have to rate it! Our blood Mary's were the bomb. Ordered spicy n they were perfect. My husband n I split the Chicken Pad Thai n some specialty rolls...I don't think you go could go wrong with any choice here..The atmosphere is clean, current, and modern. Bar tender is eye candy for any single gals.totally recommend this place to anyone traveling thru or living local! Prices on Sunday you can't beat! read more

New ownership\managers have really turned this place around. Great food and nice beer on taps. Good beer specials during the week. Keep up the good work Dave. read more

This is some of the best sushi I've had anywhere and to find it here in our backyard (Hampstead) is awesome! The prices are not cheap, but not expensive either. I always crave their hot & sour soup whenever I feel a cold coming on and the kids love sipping miso soup from little sake glasses when we dine in. They also have the best tap selection of beers of any sushi restraint I've been to. Great service and well managed. read more

It looks like a cookie cutter sushi bar in the strip mall by a grocery store. I went there Friday night at 6:30 and it was pretty crowded. It has a bar and plenty of tables. The place looks bigger in the inside and I didn't even have to wait for long to be seated. They have different kind of food not just sushi but also curries. I ordered the chef speciality called orange peel beef. It's served in a bed of steamed broccoli, and comes with two sides of either soup or salad and rice. It was so good and a decent portion. The sashimi was also amazing. It's a nice place to eat dinner on weekends but it sure was packed. read more

Delicious sushi!! And did I mention buy 1 roll get 1 free!? Service is always fast and friendly. Almost all of their portions are gigantic and enough to feed a family. Well be back again and again! read more

I liked this place a lot. The food is great, the sushi is spot on, the interior is aesthetically pleasing, and the atmosphere is relaxing. It's a great place to stop after the beach, go on a date, or just chill with some friends. read more

The sushi was good. Huge selection of specialty rolls, as well as many other menu items. They have a huge bar (but we don't do that; just worth the mention). Sushi was very fresh. Service was good, and it wasn't a long wait. Ambiance and decor were nice! Spacious layout. Four stars only because the rolls are $1-2 more expensive than comparable rolls at other places, BUT!! The buy-one-get-one free makes it an incredible deal! Worth the trip! read more

Great service. Awesome Pad Thai. Fantastic sushi specials. An excellent value for the quality of food!

One of our favorite spots. Sushi is great! BOGO all the time. My kids are picky and they even love the "dumplings, edamame, and noodles". I highly recommend this place! read more

I've lived all over the country, including on the west coast. This is by FAR the best sushi I've ever had. Prices are good too!!!

Love this place! Sushi is great and this is our go-to place for Chinese food! So glad they're in the area!

The owner said he would do a substitution, then charged me an upcharge. I waited in the front for over 5+ minutes as 3 employees passed me and then when i ask why i am being upcharged i get a rude oh well and no apology. Thank you sushi gem for once again demeaning people of color. read more

Terrible server. He was so slow, forgot things and there were only 5 or so customers in the restaurant with 3 servers on staff. Disappointing. Sushi was good, not great. Although for BOGO sushi, the price is great and worth it. Ambiance 4 stars. Bathrooms clean. read more

Some of the best sushi on the NC coast I've had. Very fresh sashimi. Nice atmosphere, low key and nice.

I thought Sushi X was really good right at first. It subsequently fell to pieces. There was an obvious, painful decline in both food and service. Sushi Gem is indeed under new management. I have only had takeout but it was far superior to the 2nd Sushi X. Different owners, chef, and management. The food is fresh and well-prepared. Obviously someone in the kitchen gives a damn. I won't go into details but had to post to show my satisfaction and support. It's good and I'm glad it here. Well done.Definitely recommend. read more

This is the best place for chinese food in the area. We pay them a visit about once a month. Their food is good and like I said the best in the area so take that as you will. However, my only serious issue with Sushi Gem is the prices. My family and I have a standard order we have always had. Its never changed and we get the same thing everytime we get chinese food whether its from Sushi Gem or any other similar restaurant when we travel out of town. Sushi Gem is by far the highest I've EVER had to pay! This is the reason we only visit them once a month or so. We ordered aprox two nights ago and our total was over $80 bucks! Now granted, we have a good size order but it is not $80 dollars worth of fun IMO. Sushi Gem, please lower your prices so we can visit more often and i dont get such depressing buyers remorse the instant i push away from the feeding trough!!! read more

The food was amazing, great taste and an awesome selection of good sushi rolls. The reason for three stars was the hour long wait for sushi rolls and the fact that our hot entrees came out 25-30 minutes before our sushi rolls read more

Service was prompt, I ordered bang bang shrimp and a beer at the bar. The bartender was quick with my order and very friendly. I also ordered spicy tuna, a philly roll, and sexy girl to go. My food was prompt and the bartender kept my glass of beer full. I cannot emphasize the quality of service and attention to detail. I highly recommend this sushi bar! read more

Great go to in Hampstead. Fresh and tasty Curry lunch specials are more than enough for big appetites.

The owner was very rude and the food was mediocre at best. They probably served us what they had leftover from the night.

Great food. Last time I went there I ordered the Unforgettable roll, and th Spicy Veggie roll. The unforgettable roll was delicious, and I liked the idea of the roast beef on top of it. It wasn't thoroughly cooked, but it's sushi, and it was only a thin piece attached to the rice. I also live near it, so it is nice to go there once in a while. The spicy veggie roll was VERY spicy. I am glad that I had a ginger ale, because the jalapeño was very spicy. My favorite dish to get there is the Royal Hawaiian Pan-Fried Noodles. I love the brown sauce, and the pan-fried noodles go very well with it. To top it, it has tasty and cooked peppers, as well as asparagus, chicken, and beef. Sometimes when I am not hungry enough to eat it, I eat it for lunch the next day. It stays good the second day, and is big enough to last. If you don't have to much sauce of course. The noodles DO become soggy, but they still taste good! I strongly suggest going and trying food there if you haven't already, and if you have, keep on eating it. read more

This place truly is a Gem! We love their Korean Bar-B-Que Ribs. The flavor is delightful and the meat melts in your mouth. The rolls we have tried are the Bagel Roll, Unforgettable Roll, Bahamas Roll, and the Las Vegas Roll. They support the Military, another plus!! We will continue to come here and recommend to our friends. read more

Took a chance after hearing that this formally great, and most recently crappy place has reopened under brand new management. Well glad I did ! Much larger menu, everything tasted and looked super fresh, and service was top notch. Now mind you it was slow, and I believe because the damage the previous owners created, will take some time to reverse itself. I recommend everyone to retry this GEM !! read more

Coming from California, it's been hard for me to find a place I finally approve of ... But sushi gem has Amazing fresh sushi!!! buy one get one deal is there to stay! Can't beat that ! Dinner for two turns out to be about 30 to 35$ if you both fill up on 4 rolls total like we do . ( not including drinks ) the 20 minuete drive from home for us it worth it for this sushi . read more

Nice atmosphere and the service was pretty good. However INCREDIBLY disappointing sushi. I LOVE sushi and normally order more "exotic" rolls. However, I got the Alaskan roll and the gem roll because I'm pregnant, had never been to this establishment, and both were on the menu containing crab (cooked) and the Alaskan roll had smoked salmon (cooked). They came to me looking beautifully, however I was incredibly disappointed when I could tell by taste and appearance that the "crab" was actually imitation crab (it wasn't manipulated in any way, just a big chunk of fake crab), and that my smoked salmon was actually raw salmon and it wasn't even firm (maybe farmed? Ew). The Alaskan roll also contained no cream cheese like it was supposed to. At $16.95 for one and $12.95 for the other roll I expect real ingredients and for the roll to be made correctly. I could've gotten better for cheaper at a grocery store. Only redeeming feature was I only had to pay for one roll because they're BOGO free. I will not be returning. read more

Love their sushi! Have actually never dined inside, always order a few rolls ToGo and it is excellent! Best spicy tuna around by far. Great quality and staff are always pleasant. read more

It's our second time here this week. Everything has been SO good! If you want your dish to have some heat, just tell them your number up to 5. Sushi is best in the area and so beautiful. Great service, Definitely worth trying out! read more

I don't live around here, but whenever I come down to visit family, I make sure to stop in at least once. This time was pretty much the busiest time possible, 6:45 on a Friday night. They seated our party of six within two minutes (pretty impressive, or just lucky, given the amount of business at the time). We all ordered different things, but I got my usual favorites: Rainbow roll, spicy salmon roll and Jalapeño Jack roll. I got through maybe half before I had to box it up. Our server, Haley, did a fantastic job. She was all over the place with tables, but was very attentive and everything came out just as ordered. The sushi itself is always very fresh, consistently accurate according to the menu, and delicious. Even if you're not a big sushi fan, the menu has ample choices from Thai curries to noodles, Chinese and Japanese fare. I seriously recommend checking them out for a good meal at an affordable price. FYI, the two-for-one sushi deal went away back in March, but they now offer 25% off all rolls. I don't know if it's every night or just on Friday, but it's still a decent deal. read more

The place is decorated very nice, prices are decent for what you get, and the quality of sushi is pretty good! I would def come back!

Though the sushi was good once we received it...it took 55 minutes to receive 4 rolls, then another 30 to receive the additional 2 rolls. We led hungry, as we did not have time to wait for more. Disappointing, as the sushi was above average read more

Great option for Asian Fusion, without a long drive to Wilmington. The Hong Kong Wonton noodle soup is highly recommended. Vietnamese Pho noodles are perfect on a cold or rainy day. Thai style curry and rice plates are good as well. Several curry dishes served "family style", is a great option for group dining, so everyone can try a bit of everything. Nice atmosphere, for dining as well. The sushi is decent, but nothing to write home about. Very user friendly for take out as well. Excellent location and value. Suitable for family dining. read more

I had a mixed experience. The overall atmosphere is nice. The service was good. The sushi rolls that we ordered were excellent and if we had only had the sushi rolls I would have likely rated as a 5. The entrees however (lo mein and tempura shrimp with veg) were flat and bland. I would not want to eat either again. The prices on the sushi are good. I thought that some of the prices were a little high but the sushi rolls as buy one get one free is a great deal. read more
