Personally I must eat sushi at the bar or it's not the same experience haha. Discovered they have 3 no rice roll options! So great. I ordered the Oishi Roll: assorted sashimi, avocado, gobo, IMO, spicy crab, wrapped in cucumber $14.95. Even though it came with a sauce, I automatically always ask for side ponzu cuz I love it so much. The chef polightly said, you don't need it, it's in the sauce, try it. He was right! I always listen to a chef if they say just try it as I've prepared it. They made it that way for a reason. It was delicious. Light but definitely enough food. Even though I didn't need it, I also ordered albacore sashimi because, to me, that is the test. Is it fresh? Yes. I also expected 2 pieces and got 5 so I am STUFFED lol. Staff is friendly, bathroom is clean. Like the vibe. Ultimately Kuru Kuru nearby on Hollywood Way and Alameda will always be my #1. This restaurant is outstanding in service and in Sushi.. Haven't had the kind of sushi, I was raised with until now.. They have everything you could want in a Sushi Restaurant.. I'm a fan! I came in here late in the evening and had a very pleasant experience. Every person working was very friendly and welcoming. I had the trio sashimi special, which consisted of albacore, yellowtail, and salmon. Usually albacore is my least favorite of the three, but it was so melt-in-your-mouth delicious, I was thrilled. I also ordered ikura (salmon eggs) and uni (sea urchin). The sea urchin specifically was some of the best I've ever had. I'm drooling just thinking about it again. They give complimentary soybeans before the meal and complimentary watermelon after the meal, which I found to be nice touches. They also put a lovely orchid on the plate - just speaks classiness to me, and I took it home because it was so pretty. One things that surprised me is that the ladies working the floor were cleaning menus and wiping down chairs during their down time. These are areas that are often overlooked in many restaurants so they tend to get sticky and just generally gross, but they take an obvious pride in cleanliness here, which I very much appreciate. The sushi chefs were warm and friendly - Kyle and Ken - and even gave me a sample to try. It's nice to have chefs that interact with you instead of being standoffish. Overall, excellent experience. I definitely intend to return and I will bring my teenage daughter to try their Spanish mackerel with fried bone, which is a delicious item but can be hard to find - usually only the most authentic sushi restaurants carry it. I love admitting when I'm wrong, especially after all of these years of stupidily judging this place by its outside cover. That was until yesterday when a gal pal and I decided to try something new for lunch and we hit this little whole in the wall in a Burbank mini mall on a 101 degree day. Cute, clean, lovely people, friendly sushi chefs and it only took one glance to our left at a dish someone had just ordered to say, "Oh yeah, we are eating here." We tried the Hamachi which is always the tell tale sign for me of whether a place is going to be good. If it doesn't taste like butter and desolve accordingly then I'll just have something cooked please. Well, the Yellowtail didn't fail nor did my friends "test" of the Tamago. Both were deelish. We then moved onto the Dake Roll to see what this signature roll was all about. First of all, it had REAL CRAB, not real Krab like most places will try to scam you into ordering. (Hate that) It also had Tuna, Yellowtail, ALbacore, Cucumber, Avocado and a 911 Sauce (Which was basically the red rooster burn your tongue off if you're not careful sauce. We also tried the Ichi Roll with spicy real crab topped with shrimp & soybean paper. Very tasty. THe only thing I didn't like about this place is the fact that they make their spicy mayo with sweet tastying mayo. This restaurant is quaint, by this i mean unusual or odd looking on the outside-it is in a small strip and next door is a fish aquarium..As long as they aren't getting their fish from there, im cool. It is also family owned/operated and really small. It was pretty busy..i felt bad for the under staffed employees but i was really irritated that we had to ask for a table, ask for a menu, ask for a drink order to be taken..you get it.. Although, THEY ASKED ME to change my order because they were out of an ingredient to make my roll. After all these issues, i decided to just go with simple rolls-spicy tuna and Philly. When we did get our food, the order was wrong..but they were quick to fix it. The fish was not the best by far but it was still fresh if that makes sense? They were not plentiful with the wasabi and ginger..Then when we were finished guess what? We had to ask for the check and then ask for a box that was obviously needed..$35 undeserving dollars for 4 small rolls and 2 small teas. I went back to Sushi Dake for dinner last night expecting something on par with my first visit (LOVED IT!!!). The service was still warm and friendly but the food was just.....meh. We ordered the Heart Attack, tempura fried jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna and it was sort of bland. How can something like that be bland? HOW??? The garlic albacore roll was kind of mushy and the sauce a little too sweet. The himachi kama was SO dry. I can't even remember the other stuff we got....that says it all. I too have never been to this restaurant because if it's location and outside appearance. Due to Yelp, I now have a new sushi restaurant to frequent in Burbank. And it's right down the street from my office! Can't beat that! There is a roll on the menu that is to die for. Spicy tuna roll wrapped in albacore and avacado. This roll just melts in your mouth. I don't mind it if its good quick fix for me. I've tried a good number of their rolls. I usually go off the list of what I have not tried. There's plenty of parking since its a plaza. Its understandable of the interior decoration given what's surrounding it and its a residential area next to a high school. I have been a customer at sushi Dake for over 10 years. Yesterday I called to place an order so I could have my son pick it up for his birthday. I wanted to pay by credit card over the phone so my son didn't have to pay for his birthday. Impossible. I told them that I was a customer for so many years and they said they don't know me. Wow. You would think after so many years that they would know their customers. Then, I specifically asked for Ponzu sauce to be added to my order. It was not there. I have been going to Dake for about 5 years now (they've been open for about 9 years). We went there on the recommendation of a trusted friend (otherwise, I would have never tried it because of the location - in a strip mall next to an exotic fish store). I am so glad that we did. IT WAS AMAZING, and it is our GO TO spot for sushi. They have a great variety, high quality sushi and the service is wonderful. We've recomended it to som many of our firends and they are never disappointed. The restaurant is owned by Michael and Diana. Diana is one of the sweetest women I know. She is always so welcoming, and how she remembers everyone's names, I willl never know. Michael is great. He is a little more aloof until he gets to know you, but just as wonderful. I love how he is always trying to create new rolls. His latest is a with Mango, Salmon, Avocado and, I think, Tuna. It was really good, and I'm not a fan of Mango. I think the Oishi roll is one of the best ever. Cool crip and oh, so yummy! The Diana Roll is a good one if you are not sure what you want. It is 6 or 8 different types of individual sushi rolls. There is one with Smelt Eggs, Salmon Roe, Spicy Tuna, Yellow Tail, Tuna, and a few others. If you are in the mood for a salad, they also make a great sashimi salad. It is really good. They also have a great selection of Beer and Sake. Tony is the 'new' (he's been there about a year now) head chef, and he is completely open to trying new things. Just don't do that to him when the restaurant is full. I watched someone go in there when there was a wait, and then sit at the sushi bar and tell Tony they wanted several different types of rolls. And they weren't simple ones. "I want this type of fish,mixed with hot oil, then wrappend with Soy and Seaweed paper then, on top I want ......." You get my drift. Then that individiual had the odasity to complain about how long it took ... REALLY ... do you not see that there are only 2 sushi chefs behind the counter and about 30 people with orders in front of you? SIt back, relax and enjoy some Sake. Went there for the third or fourth time on July 25, 2019. They're close to me distance wise, and the food is pretty good! However this last time I was there, while we were walking out the waitress looks at us and yells out loud "only a $7 tip"?... Not only did she read the amount wrong, but she yelled it out in front of the entire restaurant. Does she realize tips are optional? And was yelling across the entire restaurant and laughing the best way for her to handle that situation? This is our local spot because we can walk here. It is pricey for what it is - rolls. I like the spicy tuna hand roll with soy paper (no extra charge) and blue crab roll. I am unsure what I have done to offend this establishment, as I have tried to bring them regular business,but everytime I have come in here the woman and sushi chef treat me horribly and ignore me and chose to argue with me about my order. I dont ask for complicated dishes, just gluten free soy sauce, and greet them with a smile. I have tried to shower them with kindness this last time because maybe they just had a bad experience with someone that looks like me. It did not work.They seem to only cater kindly to families and elderly. Which is nice, but are very judgmental of alternative or different looking people. Great for families but not great for anyone else. I have worked as a server and bartender most of my life, I always try to be understanding of their occupations difficulties. I tried this place today after living in Burbank for over a year. I have kept passing by here but never went in. Today was the day. I went with a friend and we were seated promptly and they did their best with her wheelchair. We ordered from the bar. Everything was fresh and tasty. John was my sushi chef and was attentive and got our doers right. The food was good and the price was as expected. The selection was also good and I will be back to try more of their foods.
