    Dinner Bento B

Cute clean restaurant with a sushi bar. Extensive menu with something for everyone. The restaurant wasn't too busy on a Saturday night. Just one party in front of us. The restaurant has ample seating with tables in addition to the sushi bar. Wait staff were friendly and the service was good overall. The bento and salmon bowl we ordered were good and comparable to other Japanese restaurants. I ordered the special blue crab and uni bowl. It was fresh and good quality, but portion was small. Prices here are higher than the average Japanese restaurant in LA. The overall quality is good though. I would come back and try other items from their large menu selection.

So many delicious sushi rolls! It was tough to just pick one, but we went with the Tiger Roll, and it was excellent, as were the baked green muscles. I love that they serve you a little bowl cinnamon sugar chips while you wait for your plates. There's so much more that we want to try next time! Just keep in mind that they close at 2pm, and reopen at 5pm for dinner. Also, their restroom, while clean, is not in the best shape. The tank lid anyway.

Great little hole in the wall. We stopped by here a couple months ago just out of curiosity. There is only a few tables taken on a Tuesday during dinner time. Server was prompt, and the food was delivered pretty quickly. Everything we had tasted delicious and was fresh. I recently brought some coworkers in for lunch on the company dime. And they loved it! We will definitely be back when we are in the local area. The owners are super sweet and you could tell they really care about their business. Plus the bear theme is adorable.

This is our favorite Friday night sushi spot! Our go to are Shrimp Killer, Sunrise, Put your Hands Up, Hot Night. The service is always great even when it packed in there and there are only two people waiting tables. We lost this spot and will keep it on rotation as a favorite date night location

Literally the best sushi place in ALL of OC for the money. But trust me, its worth it and not really more than a lot of other mediocre sushi places Quality you can taste, service with a smile, I'm their customer forever now

We were looking for a restaurant earlier in the week that's open late and this was convenient to us and had some good reviews. The rolls were decent but the soft shell crab appetizer had too much breading for my liking and the miso soup was watered down.

definitely worth the price! my boyfriend and i were making an impromptu date since i'm leaving for canada and won't be back till next week. randomly found this spot on google and since we were both craving sushi, thought to give it a try his bento lunch combo and my aloha roll came out to $55 + tip, so be prepared to spend some cash when you come to this upscale spot! tucked away on mcfadden, you can almost miss it. very hole in the wall with amazing promise. definitely will be back again!

Sushi bear is a hidden gem that I highly recommend if your around the area The ambiance is super laid back with a lot of seats so that won't be an issue . The restaurant is located in a fairly large shopping center so parking shouldn't be an issue . The service is also on point . They were very helpful especially considering this was my girlfriends and mine first time trying this location but overall check them two thumbs up!

We stopped by about an hour before closing. It was pretty empty, which made us hesitate at first -- but we're so glad we decided to go in! We ordered the Dragon Ball Z and the Burning Sensation rolls, and both were delicious. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned. I especially loved the smokiness in the Burning Sensation -- a unique touch I don't usually find at sushi restaurants. As a bonus, the complimentary chips were a nice surprise. They had a light cinnamon sweetness that made them quite addictive. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be coming back!

Salad and miso soup that comes with bento box meal

My coworkers and I wanted to try a new place for lunch. We came during the middle of the week. There was one large party there and we were the only other group. It made me a little nervous because I chose this place. My coworkers ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, shrimp killer sushi roll and chicken udon stirfry. I wanted to try their bento box with two items which included sesame chicken and takoyaki. It also came with miso soup and salad, which was your classic garden salad you get out of a bag and nothing special. The Takoyaki balls were OK and the chicken was just not that tasty. I enjoy rice, but I didn't even like the taste or quality of the white rice. My coworker asked for spicy chili oil to go with the Ramen. We found out afterwards that it was not included and charged $3 for a teaspoon size. Sorry to say, but we will not be putting this place on our lunch rotation.

My only hope is that as more people discover it, they also help preserve what makes it special. This is a small, family-run restaurant, so please be patient during check-in, be kind to the staff, and remember that many guests have been waiting for the opportunity to enjoy the experience as well. Honda-Ya has officially become one of my favorite places to explore Japanese izakaya-style dining…read more The night started with the Mushroom Trio Butter, and we added truffle sauce. I didn't know it at the time, but this would end up being the best dish of the night. The mushrooms were perfectly sautéed and the truffle took everything to another level. An incredible way to kick off dinner. Next came the potato salad, which was a refreshing, chilled dish that balanced everything else we ordered. Then the beef tataki arrived. Thin slices of tender, perfectly seared beef served cold. It was simple, clean, and absolutely delicious. Our first round of skewers came alongside the Gindara (sweet miso black cod). I started with the miso pork belly skewer, and the flavor was unlike anything I've had before. Rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. Now, I'm still on my journey of learning to enjoy seafood. My girlfriend has made it her mission to expand my palate, so she insisted we order the Gindara. She told me it was non-negotiable. I gave it an honest shot and managed a few bites, but the fishy flavor is still something I'm working on. She absolutely loved it though, so I know it was a great recommendation for seafood fans. After that I moved on to the Japanese beef skewers, which were incredibly tender and practically slid right off the stick. Just when we thought we were done, I made one last audible and ordered two more skewers: the chicken breast with yuzu pepper and the pork cheek. Best decision of the night. The chicken surprised me with an awesome kick from the yuzu pepper. Juicy, flavorful, and much spicier than I expected. In the best way possible. Then came the pork cheek. That single skewer became my favorite bite of the entire evening. The crispy edges, the savory saltiness, and the tenderness instantly reminded me of the pork chops my dad used to make when I was a kid. Food doesn't often bring back memories that vividly, but this one did. That nostalgic feeling made it the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. If you're looking for a place where you can order a variety of small plates and experience new flavors, Honda-Ya is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be back. Especially for those mushrooms and that pork cheek.

I ordered the Inaka soba, which was very savory and flavorful. The bowl included tororo, mushrooms, bonito flakes, shredded nori, green onions, and an egg. The curry was aromatic and came as a silky, soup-like consistency that coated each udon noodle nicely. It had a deep umami flavor. The udon was the ideal texture - thick and chewy. As for the beef, it was very tender. We shared a crunchy roll on the side. It was cut into 8 pieces. Every piece was super crispy and delicious. The main flavor came from the eel sauce, so it tasted very sweet and savory.

We ordered and noticed people who were seated much later than us got their food already. Another server who brought food to the table next to us noticed us and asked if we got our food yet. He double checked for us and main server hadn't sent our order to the kitchen. We had already waited 25 minutes in addition after placing our order. Our order came out very quickly after the realization. Unfortunately the lemon salmon sushi roll that came out seemed incredibly rushed. The roll wasn't tucked in so each piece we grabbed broke apart. The fried squid legs were good. The udon texture was good, but by the time our food came out, we weren't in the best mood. All the waiting and lack of service ruined our appetite. The 2nd server gave us a bag of salted noodle toppings to-go as a solace for the bad service? The cheese pull goes crazy and it is a large reason we always return! We love the curry as well! Hire Katsu (2/5): sad to say this one was a bit of a disappointment. I wish we had taken a picture but the pork had been pounded extremely thin to the point where i only really tasted the panko. To my knowledge, this was supposed to be a more premium cut since it's more expensive than the other pork katsu. I never judge anything based off of value, but this was dry and burnt to a crisp ): From the side profile of the cut, it appeared that one layer of batter and panko was thicker than the meat itself. So far, we have had more good experiences than not at Hako, and prefer not to let this particular experience deter us from returning again. We hope future trips will prove to us otherwise, but until then, as for the quality of our meal, I hope this can be looked into.
