If you do get an elaborate drink, I suggest sharing it with a loved one as they're huge! Been here twice. The staff are very friendly. The first time we went there, they let us bring our dog in, even though they weren't really a pet-friendly joint. They gave him some whipped cream, too. If I wrote this review a few years ago when I first tried Surreal Creamery, my rating would've been much higher. But now that their prices have gone up, I just feel like this spot is overrated and overpriced. Over $10 for an average-tasting bubble tea topped with average-tasting ice cream. At least $8 for a cup or cone of ice cream. Their bubble tea is fairly priced at $6-7, but you can get much tastier and richer-flavored bubble tea for the same price elsewhere. If you still wanted to see what all the hype was about, I'd say to go for the the taro/matcha swirl ice cream with some fun toppings (I used to get Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, and Biscoff Cookies). I haven't ordered the jars since it looks like it can feed an army plus is exorbitantly priced. I think it's nice that they use mason jars instead of too much plastic, but it's a bummer that they can't wash/sanitize and reuse the glass jars. We ordered the taro with boba, Oreos and condensed milk - delicious! I don't know many places anywhere that serve soft serve AND bubble tea so 5 stars for that. I do have to say the earl grey taste more like a vanilla, the early grey is veryyy subtle. The cookies and crème (blue colored) is also a bit light I wish it had more Oreo. I will start of by saying that it is very difficult to find parking, as we all know New Brunswick is a busy area. So be prepared to look for a parking for a while and have to walk to the ice cream shop. The shop itself has a chill vibe, but due to covid a lot of chairs are up and things look a bit messy which is somewhat understandable. The tables however are not clean. Staff was nice and even offered to let us try some samples since it was our first time going to this place and we didn't know what to get. My husband got the Vietnamese ice cream w/Thai tea and I got the matcha ice cream with lucky charms. My husband said that he loved the creaminess of the Vietnamese ice cream and he loves the cookie that was "bussin" lol. He however did not like how sweat the ice cream was and the Thai tea tastes very artificially powdered. The quantity was fair for the price. For mine, I think the ice cream was creamy and has that earthy matcha taste that I like and the lucky charms add a crunchy nice taste. I had to take half of it home because I couldn't finish it. It's priced at $8.50 but it's pretty large, I normally split it with someone. I've tried several of their mason jar specials, I also suggest you share with another person. My first time trying them was in-store and I needed so many paper towels to clean up after my blue ice cream (it was the Nom Nom Cookie Mason Jar). To put it fairly, parking can be a nightmare sometimes. I have skipped going due to the dread of parking before . Not their fault they are just located right on Easton Ave. in Downtown New Brunswick. If you're lucky enough to find a spot, please make sure you put in more than enough to pay for the parking or read the signs thoroughly because sometimes it's a longer wait or there is a line. My sister found out about this place on TikTok. They make mason jar sundaes where the sundaes tower over the mason jars. Do you have the choice of ordering a pre-designed sundae or making your own. My first impression entering the store, everything looked dirty with dunkin donut cups on the cashier counter, then my bad experience was awful customer service, first time this happens in NY. I have now been to Surreal Creamery twice (both during the quarantine). I have been using this wonderful Yelp app to put in my orders for pick up. Both times I ordered a Float Tea (roughly $9), which is bubble tea on the bottom and soft serve ice cream on the top. They have quite a few mixtures to choose from. First I chose the Vietnamese iced coffee with Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream, the second time I had Taro bubble tea with taro and matcha swirl ice cream. Both were REALLY good, and I really enjoyed the flavoring of the ice creams. They were sweet and so flavorful. You can definitely taste the flavor! Also, regarding the ordering process. So again, I made my orders for pick up and was able to include my tip through the app. These people are making money by working, yes, but they are still making a choice to work and interact with a lot of people by being here during COVID. So in my book, they're risking their lives, so just a note that people should definitely tip and if they are able, tip a little more for these workers. Anyway, during pick up, both times my orders were ready by the time I walked in. So no need for unnecessary waiting or being by strangers.
