A great little spot in Milltown, the place to go for homemade ice cream. It's clearly in the vibe of the good ol' times where you'd walk down to the tiny little shop that somehow serves up great cones every time. Still works. A great value and some great flavors - I tried the following: Chocolate nut surprise - Not too nutty, the right balance of ingredients and plenty of chocolate! Chocolate cookie dough - Exactly what you would want to expect. Scrumptious large chunks of dough in deep rich ice cream. Cannoli - A wonderful bridge of sweet cream/vanilla between the two chocolates. It goes down smooth like a cannoli (with little cannoli pieces embedded). There are so many great homemade ice cream places all over, I can't say "drive an hour to Milltown!" but if you're in the area - anything "Brunswick" let's say - this is the can't-miss spot. read more

Absolutely amazing. This is definitely the place to go if you want to have great time with your family. For the smallest cup size, it's surprisingly big! The servers are also and kind very patient. The location is pretty good, though; It's located next to a train track and the highway. Though I've never seen a train pass by... There's some tables next to the shop. Depending on the day and time, there's either a lot of people, or little to none. Overall, I give 9/10 will definitely come again. read more

First and last time at this establishment. Ordered small Vanilla Pecan Ice Cream in a cup. No taste. Not worth the calories. My girlfriend and I had a few bites and tossed the rest. Do not come here. The girls are complete idiots. A friend of mine wanted a job so I was in the area and told him I was going there anyway so I would get him an application. When I went up to the window, the girl said "we only hire females." I asked to speak to the manager and was told "there isn't one" There's never a manager present whenever I had went in the past so it's just a bunch of young girls unsupervised who don't know what they're doing. In the past, I have been to the Jamesburg location. I enjoyed the ice cream here as it tasted fresh, big portions, and an affordable price. The same thing holds up well for the Milltown location. I am happy they are now close by and that they are in the location they are in now. They are located where Ice Cream Depot used to be, as Ice Cream Depot is now closer to town. I was never really a fan of their ice cream, but Four Boys definitely is a winner for me with the friendly service and good product. read more

Cool little ice cream shop with a great variety of frozen treats. I'm so used to most of the small ice cream stores in New Jersey only having soft serve ice cream- having never been here before, I was expecting more of the same but was pleasantly surprised when we got up to the counter to find that they not only had a selection of everyday hard scoop flavors, they also had some especially. On this particular trip, I was really fancying Italian ice, and it turns out I was in luck! Chocolate is my favorite flavor, but mixed in with cherry, it's heavenly for me. The employee making my ice cream did a great job of mixing the flavors together, it created a picture perfect dessert! I went here when it was the old owners called ice cream depot.. once they changed to four boys.. it is the worst! The staff of young kids are super rude unwelcoming and not friendly at all! When asked a question they have zero clue! Don't even bother getting a kids size versus small .. what a joke! It's a half a scoop of ice cream for $4!!! For a small it's $4.25! Four Boys opened last night and I hope everyone loves them as much as I do. My husband had banana ice cream in a cup and said it was one of the best banana ice creams he ever had. I had a chipwich, made with vanilla soft serve ice cream, nestled between two homemade chocolate chunk cookies, and rolled in chocolate chips. It was DELICIOUS! They also have vegan and allergy friendly options. They sell cakes which can be grabbed Togo or custom ordered. I highly recommend that you get to Four Boys and try their amazing homemade ice cream. I'VE been pretty loyal to Miltown ice cream depot, but this place really exceeds expectation. This is in the same location as where the old Miltown depot used to be. I stopped by here for some ice cream on a Thursday night - with a line, as per usual. The portions were huge and the staff was friendly and the ice cream, was the best. I know some of the locals who will swear that the Ice Cream Depot is the best and way better than Four Boys but we have had nothing but great experiences here! The ice cream is always fresh, portions are huge and very comparable pricing to other local establishments, and the service has always been lovely. Vanilla PB is my favorite but the seasonal flavors were delicious! Now, I don't mind the ice cream depot at all - lots of bang for your buck. But their ice cream can also can be bought at Shoprite or CVS since it's mostly a brand called Jack and Jill or most recently I saw Edy's there. I'd rather pay for a quality homemade product. We have 3 pizza places in this small town, there's got to be room for 2 ice cream places to thrive. read more

EATS: The "hard"-style ice cream is the real standout with flavors like apple pie and cannoli. The taste is delicious (tried a number of flavors and haven't had a bad one yet!), the portions are huge, prices fair, and the waitstaff sweet and fast. ATMOSPHERE: There is plenty of parking but no indoor seating. Options include outdoor picnic-style tables and a few coveted seats under an awning. It's more "rustic" than "charming." That said: If you have kids, there is plenty of space for them to run around in the grassy area behind the building. LOCAL LORE: People around town will sometimes refer to this place as "where the Ice Cream Depot used to be." The Ice Cream Depot has since moved about 3 blocks away to Main St. location. Pretty crazy to try to take over where a well known and established local ice cream joint was. Give them a lot of credit for that! Decided to give them a shot and we're very happy we did. Wow! Really awesome. We are new to this part of NJ, moving just three weeks before being required to "stay at home". Yesterday was a glorious day and after a delightful ZOOM visit with friends in the UK we decied to just take a ride to explore the area! Making a wrong turn is HOW we discovered this place and all I can say is that was pure luck! With that being said I will share that I do bake our bread, make homemade Greek style yogurt weekly and I also make our ice cream! I might pack the ice cream churner away. We ordered two cones of soft chocolate / vanilla swirl with sprinkles and just a tiny dish of soft vanilla for our spoiled pup, Murphy. He doesn't usually eat ice cream but we ordered it anyway. So most of the "swirl" was chocolate but that was fine by me. I don't even know if I have the words to describe this luscious sweet treat! I could actually see the cocoa in the deep chocolate... it was like eating Belgium chocolate in ice cream form. As if it could get any better, there was at least a pint of ice cream on the cone. (We were given pint containers to dump them in because they were getting drippy.) I would pay $5 for that cone again before buying a pint of Ben & Jerrys or Haagen Dazs. It was THAT delicious. I will definitely be ordering ice cream cakes for birthday celebrations from 4 Boys! What a score of a find! Loving it here already! Also, Murphy devoured his ice cream much to our shock! Staff was very unfriendly. I made a pit stop at four boys ice cream for a sweet treat to make my day brighter. Looking back at that decision, I definitely should have ran the other way when I was faced with staff member Hannah Canto. When I ordered the "chunky monkey" she gave me a look of disapproval, as if I was less than a person for ordering the flavor. I asked her "Why did you make that face? Is it gross?" She replied "Yeah probably but I'm not sure." Needless to say, it was pretty gross, so I told her "You were right, the ice cream was gross, but thank you for it anyways." What I thought was gonna be a kind exchange of words became an onslaught of sarcasm. "Okay? I'm not the one who made the ice cream" said Hannah Canto." I responded by saying: "I know but you were the one who said it was bad, I was just voicing my opinion and agreeing with you. This next part is straight out of a movie... she took the melted slushie she was drinking, sucked it up through the straw, and shot it onto my face, getting slushie on my face and neck. I was mortified; How can a person I do not know treat me with such harshness? To top it all off, she said "You got a little something on your face" mocking the fact she did that to me. I politely walked away but it for sure ruined my day. Since I was curious, I tried out the new place where the old ice cream depot used to be, and I was not impressed and I don't plan on going back again. I was intrigued by their selection of interesting flavors and got a cannoli hot fudge sundae. Their ice cream is not creamy, it's more ice milk than ice cream, and what it lacks in cream, it also lacks in flavor. the whipped cream was tasteless as well, and not as whipped as I like it. The fudge was average, and the prices aren't great either, being higher than I would be willing to pay for ice cream like that. They say that it is homemade, and I can definitely taste the difference, but that difference is not good. I'll take any ice cream over four boys. Milltown is where its at to go get ice cream, but four boys just doesn't live up to that standard. read more

I am very disappointed in Four Boys. My husband and I went there last night and brought our sweet puppy. My husband asked for a pup cup which was always $1.50 for a small cup of vanilla soft serve. Their soft serve machine had a problem so they said they could give the puppy some whipped cream instead. Frankly, it seemed like they were just giving it to us as a "sorry we don't have the vanilla." Out came a bowl with a small bit of whipped cream in it. We went to pay for our ice cream and somehow, even though each ice cream is only $4.50 and we got 2, the bill came to $12.75. I asked how that could be and one of the employees even said, that the total should have been $10.50. Right? Apparently not. Instead, this very small squirt of whipped cream -- not even ice cream!!-- is $3.75. I was very annoyed and said that someone should have told us it would be $3.75 because I wouldn't have gotten it. Instead of doing the right thing and saying they apologize and would honor the known price of $1.50, they just kind of shrugged and said sorry. I won't be back. It was a real rip off, especially because it wasn't even ice cream and to add insult to injury, my dog wouldn't have a single lick because the whipped cream was terrible!! It's not the $2 that annoys me so much--it's the complete and utter disinterest in customer service and the feeling of a bait and switch in pricing that isn't posted anywhere. We won't be back. Luckily we have another ice cream shop right around the corner from Four Boys, so we will go there instead and just deal with the longer lines. read more

When ice cream depot left this location, I was sure people would try the new place because the location is so great, with plenty of space to hang out outside while you eat your . Somehow, milltowners have been so loyal to ice cream depot and they're missing out on this new replacement. Four boys has the best ice cream. It's SO delicious, it's fresh, and you get HUGE portions for a totally reasonable price. The classics are perfect and the weekly flavors are interesting and amazing. Everybody's nice and this ice cream is SO worthwhile!! GO GO GO!!! read more
