This place was unexpected super good. I usually don't really get taco and honestly if I was passing by this place I normally wouldn't try anything. However, i'm glad i decided to try something different today. The steak taco was so good since it was cooked just not overly cooked and the taco was crispy and soft which is hard to find since most time i find it too hard or soft that makes it soggy quick. The birria was a bonus since I came here on Tuesday and apparently there's a free third taco for it and i really wanted to try birria taco here and i surely did not leave disappointed! Highly recommend coming here and i believe there's another location that opens 24/7!! Definitely come here if you got late night craving! read more

Surfside Taco Stand - Steak and birria taco - Tex-Mex Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

A small gem in the wharf area. There are many big and good restaurants in the wharf area but sometimes you just want to get something quick and easy to eat. Surfside accomplishes that mission completely. It is a small shop with small sitting and a small outdoor sitting area, however the quality is good. It is not authentic Mexican taco since it is a Tex mex but the quality is very good. We found this place on a Saturday night when we didn't want to reserve anything. The reviews were very good so we decided to give it a try. They have almost ten different type of tacos (kinda pricy lol) but each taco is two big tacos with a side of rice to satisfy the hunger enough. We ordered steak taco and birria taco. The steak taco was great, the combination of the sauce with guacamole made it really delicious. The birria taco was good too but we liked the steak one better. I would say the only reason is that I have had better birria tacos and in general they are not easy to make. The service was fast which is great. The only issue that I had is they don't have a bathroom which is totally fine for a small restaurant. I was happy when I saw they have a sink for washing hands but it didn't have water which is the main reason for 4 stars. I will come back and I guess hopefully they have figured out a way for the customers to wash their hands. read more

Enjoying immensely the Port Antonia Quesadilla and a Maui Taco. From the blackened corn in the taco, the yellow rice, and the grilled chicken in the quesadilla, ever ingredient is prepared with care and flare. Drop some coins in this bucket and you'll have no regrets! read more

Antigua (fried shrimp) tacos were incredibly amazing!!! Definitely my favorite taco here so far. Nevis (grilled shrimp) tacos were also delicious. This place definitely has really good shrimp (sooo warm and fresh and tasty). I also tried Maui and Cabo San Lucas (steak); they were all right. Maui was good but had cold fish meat, which I didn't realize, as I like hot/warm meat better. Cabo San Lucas steak was a bit too tough for me. Go on Tuesdays to get a free third taco! More worth the slightly high prices, although I'll say the prices are still reasonable on a regular day for two well-portioned tacos plus delicious yellow rice. read more

Today was a very warm day to exploring DC and I was in need of a cold drink! Most of the places on this area are SUPER expensive, so I was relieved when I stumbled upon Surfside, where my partner and I ordered a bottle of coke and a strawberry lemonade. They make the lemonade on site and it was just what I needed, icey cold and delicious. Plus, both drinks ran me just around $8, which was really affordable (especially considering the prices in the area). I'm excited to go back and try their food!!! read more

Amazing food and great price considering that they're at the wharf. Really enjoy this place one of the better values in the area.

This place was amazing! Great atmosphere, quick service. We got lucky and were able to snag a table to eat (small dinning area.) If you don't get a table, plenty of places to eat outside. Four of us ordered and were super pleased with all the flavor and fresh food Would recommend to EVERYONE! read more

I LOVE surfside. They're one of my go-tos when I need a quick bite before a show at The Anthem or when I want to walk around The Wharf with friends and grab a bite to eat. They're expensive, but you get 3 tacos and rice! I wish you could mix and match tacos easily and I also wish they had more seating, but I love to bring mine to the docs. The line is also normally pretty long, but the staff is always friendly and efficient. Normally I have to wait about 10 minutes for the tacos, but they always come out hot and fresh. They also have good sodas in glass bottles I'll splurge on every now and then. I love any of their tacos with pineapple on them and their carnitas are also very tasty!! I've been going to Surfsides throughout the city for years now! Definitely check them out!! read more

Good stop when down at the wharf. This "salad" burrito was light and refreshing. Don't forget the guacamole and chips! read more

The convenience of it being in such a prime location was a major plus. However, there were a few aspects of my experience that left me with mixed feelings. It was kind of surprising to me that the restaurant didn't have any cups of water. Instead, they insisted on selling bottled water, which I found a bit inconvenient and unnecessary. It would have been nice to have the option of free water, especially considering the prices. In regards to pricing, it was definitely on the pricier side. For reference, I ordered the Belize Quesadilla, which after tax and tip came up to $18.65. Even glancing at the rest of the menu, everything seemed to be similarly priced. Especially as someone who grew up in Texas, there are definitely better, cheaper options. Nevertheless, I am willing to give it a pass due to its location on the wharf, which often tends to be associated with higher prices. For food, I do feel like it fell somewhere in the middle for me. It wasn't really outstanding or memorable enough to make it my first choice for future visits, but it was decent enough for a quick fix. The interior was the highlight of the experience. It was super well decorated and was one of the factors that really drew me into the restaurant in the first place. The thing that stood out most to me was it's lack of service efficiency. Despite there being only two people ahead of me in line, it took way longer than expected to place my order. I noticed that there were individuals at the next window engaged in casual conversations, seemingly disregarding the waiting customers. Overall, this restaurant's prime location on the wharf made it a convenient option, especially for grab-and-go meals. However, the general experience definitely has room for improvement. While it may suffice for a quick bite, I would personally explore other dining options in the future. read more

This taco joint opened up at the Wharf recently and I was excited to try it. I really wanted to like it because it's another relatively affordable (more on than below) option and the interior decor is bright and colorful. However, I'm giving 3 out of 5 stars because the fish in the tacos didn't taste fresh. And for a place that touts their "fresh fare inspired by the beach," they fall short of their promise on freshness. There are some good things and some bad things to take away from Surfside. The price: Now, this place has a great Taco Tuesday deal. This is an awesome deal. Normally each taco dish comes at an average of $11 each with two tacos per order. BUT on Taco Tuesday, you get an extra taco with each order. So that brings the average down from over $5 for a single taco to roughly $3, which is much more reasonable. So on Taco Tuesday, the price is your friend. All other days, eh. I should say, also, that each taco is pretty hefty: large, heavy, and overfilled--which is great. The presentation and sides: Another thing I really liked was how colorful and full the dishes looked. I think the avocado, sauces, beans, and rice were mostly good. The yellow rice in particular was delicious--above average! It's unfortunate that the fish itself just wasn't fresh or pleasant to eat. The tacos: The fish tacos (Maui with grilled dorade and Negril with backened redfish) were very unpleasant. They had a fishy smell and taste which tells me the fish wasn't fresh to say the least. Further the skin on the fish was fatty and chewy. I took a bit of taco and a long piece of skin was dangling outside my mouth. You need a serious bite to chew that skin down and it wasn't worth it considering the fishiness in the flavor. The shrimp taco (Antigua with green goddess sauce) was better. But nothing special. The shrimp was a bit crunchy for my taste. Also, for how good the sauces were overall, the green goddess dressing on the Antigua taco was not good. It had a strong bitter aftertaste. This is easily my favorite dressing of all time but at Surfside it just wasn't good. The chicken tacos (Punta Cana with fried chicken and the Bora Bora with grilled chicken and mandarin) were pretty good. The Punta Cana was the best taco we tried overall. The Bora Bora had a lot of great seasoning and bold flavors with the mandarin adding a sweetness to each bite. Pretty solid. The quesadilla: Finally, the quesadilla was pretty good. I really liked the combination of the squash, shrimp, mango, and cheese in the St. Croix. It was a success. Overall: The shrimp quesadilla and the yellow rice were really good. But the fish tacos were disappointing and didn't taste fresh. I may give it another shot at a later point in time, stirring away from the fish, of course. read more

How do every single time your rice is crunchy like a Dorito! It's horrible! Never again

Twice, I picked up an incomplete order from this place. I recommend to double check your order before leaving the restaurant

I came here for Happy Hour before a concert. The restaurant is located at The Wharf. The outdoor environment is very nice. The food is so so. We ordered nachos to share between me and a friend. They asked if we wanted to add chicken and guac to which we said sure, like it should have just came with the nachos already. We ate our food and drinks then when we got the bill, to our surprise... they charged an extra $10 for chicken and guac!! That is insane, especially since the nachos were already $8 without the extra. You could go to any bar and get better nachos that already include chicken and guac for way less. Would not recommend coming here and getting nachos at least, not sure about the other food they offer. read more

I never leave reviews but this experience was so bad I have to warn people. I paid $18 for a burrito that was 90% rice 5% other ingredients. They gave maybe 7 leaves for the "side salad." A 24 hour taco stand? We have to stan. Everything on this menu is worth a try and they definitely don't skimp on the portions either.

Surf side is great. Parking is difficult but the tacos are well worth the stress. Ordering online before picking up a to-go order makes it a bit easier. The rice is buttery and soft every time. The steak is always tender and flavorful. The guac is always flavorful as well. Just order the tacos! I keep ordering Cabo, that is my go to. Now I like Negril. That gave me a taste of the Caribbean I'd been looking for! read more

Got in from a late flight to DC was the only thing really open. The food was fantastic. service was quick.

good option for a late night meal that's not fast food. burrito could have more too it, seems like mostly rice and chicken

I was at Surfside Tuesday night at 10 PM. We ordered the Belize which is the steak quesadilla and it was excellent. It was stuffed with Steak. So today I bring a friend and I order the Belize and the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands was great. The Belize had no steak and a bunch of green lettuce on it. Someone made a mistake or someone was being freaking jerk. read more

Nacho average taco stand, unique take on Tex Mex with excellent favors. I had a quesadilla with chicken and citrus or mango pineapple and wow it was amazing. Little pricey but the portions are large and the food is good. You place your order on a screen and your number is called so no service and because there's people all standing around waiting no ambiance. I'd return again for a quick on the go meal. read more

Always good! Never disappointed! I love the street corn especially! Service is always fast and efficient!

We were in temporary housing on the wharf for 30 days and I believe we are at Surfside six times. The food is delicious, the ingredients are amazingly fresh and the price is unbelievably reasonable. Fantastic steak tacos. As a Latino, a must try. Great taste and good portions. Piña colada is tasty and refreshing.

This is one of my favorite places to get lunch - it's filling, fresh and (usually) timely. The order ahead feature on surfside's own site is a great bonus though it doesn't actually update when your order is ready, so just ask for it at the counter when it has been the estimated amount of time. Over the years I've been to all of Surfside's locations and tried a large percentage of the menu but my go-to is the Nevis. The shrimp are *huge* and a great bang for your buck. Complimented by fresh guac and mango salsa it really is my dream meal. I am not a fan of their corn tacos (mealy texture) so either sub with the flour or just eat the plentiful flavored rice that comes in the tacos and as a side. Seating inside is limited as this is a tiny shop but they have some dedicated outdoor seating and large amount of Wharf seats in front of the shop which are never full. No bathrooms but there are nice public ones just around the corner. read more

In town for a concert and came in for a quick bite. The birria tacos are so bomb. I legit will dream about them. I love the self order kiosk and the heaters saved me during this cold day. Love the location if you're in the mood for a quick bite and hanging around the wharf. Food is solid and modestly priced in comparison to the Mexican restaurant Mi Vida around the corner (not worth it btw). I noticed they recently put out tables to sit at (outside) and it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. Food is good (for DC) and it's easy/quick/affordable. read more

The tacos are good, but it's total BS that they refused to give me a cup of tap water. The cashier said "At this time they are only selling bottles of water for $2".
