Mushroom Swiss . Picture won't do it justice

If you're craving a hot juicy burger this is the place to go! The new owner's have the right idea . Congrats. Had the Mushroom Swiss burger , great flavor and assembled just perfect . The patty was excellent. Perfect medium rare. They cook it based on your liking . Only recommendation I have is maybe a different style of bun. Little soft but might just be because of the Togo box. Overall will be coming back!!'

    "Club" sandwich

Went for lunch and ordered a club sandwich, which is stated as having ham, turkey and bacon. The sourdough was very burnt and hard and only had bacon. We asked the staff if they ran out of turkey and ham and said we only had bacon and they told us we were wrong and that was turkey and ham. Made me double check myself and take apart the sandwich and there was only cold bacon straight out of fridge. They would not fix sandwich and insisted that the meat was ham and turkey. Unless they have some weird combo meat it was definitely just a BLT, which isn't even on the menu as an option.

The Surfside Classic burger with a side of fries

I had been wanting to try out Surfside Burger Shack for awhile, and I was very impressed with both the selection and the set-up. Very cute place! There are a few arcade games in the back that in addition to the decor and lighting, give it a very casual, old-school, beachy vibe. My burger and fries were good, but a little on the dry side for my taste. The flavor was great, however! My friend really enjoyed his combo, so perhaps the dryness of my meal was an exception to the usual mode of things. I'm definitely willing to eat here again and give it another go! Parking can be a little iffy considering its location right along the 101, but parking is pretty plentiful (and safer) along the side streets. I look forward to coming back and exploring the menu a little more, and maybe playing a few arcade games while I'm at it!

I really like the idea behind the Surfside Burger Shack, but the food just isn't that tasty. This is my third attempt at eating here and I really wanted it to be different. I ordered a Mushroom & Swiss combo with fries. The taste of the burger patty itself was completely drowned out by the cheese, which didn't resemble real Swiss. It tasted more like American cheese. The consistency was mushy and the lettuce was soggy. The fries looked like house-cut fries, which is nice. They were fresh but seriously needed seasoning. I'm a very happy regular at Stars Burgers in Arcata and wanted to expand my burger horizons. Unfortunately Surfside, I can't ride the wave. Wait, there are positive notes! The owner/staff was very friendly and I was happy to see that they use eco-friendly to-go packaging.

    Chili cheese fries

The food was good and the staff was very friendly. The different burger size options were nice.

    The Bacon Bleu Burger

The wait was a long time because there was one chef making all of the food. I ordered a Bacon Bleu burger and it was depressing. Patty was dry, the blue cheese had no taste, and there were pretty sad pieces of bacon. The burger was 75% lettuce and mayo to where I got sick from the amount of mayo on it. I also asked for no tomatoes and fried mushrooms as a side but I got tomatoes on my burger and got fried pickles instead. At least the pickles were good.

Expensive surfside soggy burger and cold fries. $30 bucks for 2 burgers and 1 fry.

Prices are relatively good, especially for this area. Food was oily though, buns were disappointing for a restaurant food.

There's a nice list of California regional wines by the glass or bottle, and a local selection of beers and hard cider. It seemed that the biggest hit of the evening was the deserts. To a table on the night we dined, everyone was eating the desserts. My only regret from the evening is that we didn't eat the desserts because we had to go in a bit of a last minute dash. Our server was very pleasant and let us know the special of the day, a halibut dish with a creamy pepper sauce. Debating between that and another dish, we asked her recommendation and she suggested the fish. So we did it. My wife and I traditionally split meals at restaurants, because they generally give you so much food, you leave uncomfortably stuffed. We prefer leaving comfortably satisfied. So we split the Arugula Salad. They bring complementary bread with a garlic butter or basalmic and olive oil. We preferred the basalmic. The garlic butter wasn't very garlicky. But the salad was excellent. They split it for us for a small upcharge. The Halibut was excellent. We had to split it ourselves, but that was not a problem for us. It was served over couscous and was excellent. A bit small to split, so we added a cheesecake dessert with ganache. Very good. We paired it all with a Cabernet from the Oakville area of Napa (where we had just visited) and it was excellent as well. Our server was attentive. The pacing of our meal was very well done. Not too long between check-ins, but also not rushed. We recommend!

I found this restauraunt on Yelp and we reserved it for my birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We sat by the window and had a beautiful view of the sunset and bay. Upon being seated we were served some bread with some whipped butter mixed with some sort of seafood I believed? I forgot, but the butter was delicious. Our first round of bread however, was average at best and was very dense and doughy. The next rounds of bread were significantly better though, so maybe there's an inconsistency with the way they bake their bread in-house. I ordered the seafood penne pasta and my boyfriend ordered the king salmon with risotto. Both were "specials" and were not on the menu. However after digging into reviews here, it seems they are not so much specials since both dishes have been served here for the past 7ish years. Seafood penne pasta: I would rate a 3/5, maybe a 2.5/5. The pasta itself was not al dente which was disappointing. The "star" of this dish was supposed to be the scallop, which was severely undercooked! It was super soft and mushy. The shrimp was alright...some were overcooked. The salmon was also dry. I think the only thing I really enjoyed was the mussels, clams, and the sauce. The sauce had some curry with a small kick to it. This dish was just okay. Escargot: We ordered as our appetizer, I'd give it a 3.5/5! The escargot was a little soft but paired wonderfully with the bread. Creme brûlée: 3/5. Our waitress kindly put a birthday candle on it for my birthday. :) I enjoyed it, and it was very custardy! The downside was that the sugar on top was too burnt. I can't speak much for my boyfriend's dish, I did have a bite of his salmon and it was alright, maybe a bit too salty. The service however was wonderful and our waitress was super kind and helpful. Maybe I would come back to try another dish if I'm back in the area.
