grest burgers…read more Amazing staff The Citrus surprise... probably the best milkshake ever.

An employee named Angi bullied my employee when she called in for a to-go order. My employee was…read moreliterally in tears because of how Angi had treated her. I knew that she was not exaggerating because Angi had previously treated me that way on the phone too. When confronted with the bullying, Angi denied having ever mistreated anyone, and that was comical because she has a long history of being rude and abusive and passive-agressive to customers on the phone. She's even nasty to employees of the other Stars in Eureka, when they call. Her reputation got around. She then went on to spin the story to make herself the victim, and when I told them that I would contact the owner, they refused to give me his contact info. Not only that, but she had her manager ban me from the store for whistle-blowing. The young manager first taunted me with pathetic dominance displays meant to humiliate me, while claiming that it doesn't matter what I tell his boss because the owner would "believe my word over yours all day", but that ended up humiliating himself and this Arcata branch of Stars. It showed what unethical and poor judgement the hired staff have, and what incompetent leadership the branch has been left in the hands of. This comes after raw sewage had leaked from plumbing problems that were not being fixed for far too long, and the fluorescent light in the parking lot was flickering/strobing enough to cause a seizure for most of a year, with no attempt to fix it. It should be noted that when customers who have been eating there weekly for many years, and who have been customers for longer than the manager has been alive, are retaliated against for whistle blowing, the owner loses significant amounts of money annually. We tell our friends. More the point, we give our money to the Eureka branch of Stars (different ownership) who do a better, more consistent job making the food well, are always friendly and honest, maintain the safety and hygiene of the branch, and are honorable people in general.

We were two-wheeled pilgrims, dust-caked and hungry, and Papa Dogs Tap House and Deli was exactly the kind of gritty oasis we needed. This ain't some polished, pretentious joint. Papa Dogs has a real, lived-in feel, a kind of cute and quaint charm that still feels authentically small-town. I ordered the Albuquerque turkey, it was the perfect combo of flavors and the super cold pineapple hard cider was much appreciated. They were out of chips so I skipped on that (obviously) The folks working there? Solid. No fuss, no fake smiles, just genuinely kind and efficient. But let me tell you, the true salvation, the damn highlight of this whole pit stop, was that patio. We peeled off our helmets, stretched out, and let the Weaverville air wash over us. It's got that easygoing, unpretentious vibe that just screams "kick back." After hours of white-knuckling it through twisty mountain passes, that patio was pure, unadulterated bliss.

Food: Bland! Bland! Bland! I had a cheeseburger with mushrooms, which was as boring as eating cardboard! I'm all about using less salt, but damn, were you out of salt and pepper?!??? My man's burger had half a lettuce and a piece of pineapple from a can. My daughter had a hot dog that she mostly ate, so maybe it wasn't that bad. But everything was so greasy. It felt as if we had downed a bottle of cooking oil. We felt kinda crappy afterward. Service: I don't know if the lady didn't like the way we looked or what, but she had a sour face when we picked up our tray and when we asked for napkins. Maybe she's stuck in the 1920s and not used to mixed couples. Or maybe she's upset that tweakers are hanging out at her shack. Ambiance: All the seats were outside and no umbrellas to block the sun. OMG. There were two benches in the shade, but these two ladies took them with chocolate-covered strawberries on the table. Ummm wouldn't the chocolate melt?? They just left them on the table in the heat. Ew. Then, there was a homeless guy with a machete walking around talking to himself. We were about to sit at the shaded table, but he just stood there waiting for food. Or was he just hanging out? There were other homeless or ragged-looking men strolling around. It was scary and uncomfortable to eat. I mean, what's he gonna do with that machete??? But, hey, at least we got out of there alive and unscathed. Oh, and not getting food poisoning is a plus!
