I have had every satellite service in our area. They are all the same and all have data limits that are expensive and run out in a few days of the new billing cycle. It's been almost 12 years and I finally have internet worth paying for. I felt hopeless with no other options until I heard of the WiFi services. After contacting all the WiFi services I had heard of I was still feeling hopeless. The only way to get service to my home would cost a ton of money up front. I mean $1000 plus just to get signal. I was referred by a friend to Surfnet. A company I had never called because I didn't know they existed. Sure enough they could get clear line of sight to their towers and now I have an amazing internet service and it was $179 for the install and equipment I needed. And $79 a month for service. I can stream and all that with no worries. Thank you Surfnet. Installation looks clean and neat and the guys were polite and friendly. No more big satellite dish that cost way to much and really just sucked. My kids can game. We can stream movies. And we don't have to monitor every thing we do because we have unlimited data. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. Surfnet Internet- avoid them like the plague. Completely dissatisfied with surfnet internet. The worst customer service I have ever dealt with, and the second worst (after Hughes net) internet service provider for areas outside of cable service (spectrum). If you want reliable fast internet service for rural and semi-rural areas, try starlink or ranch wifi instead. Surfnet is horrible! And dishonest! After years of poor service and frequent service interruptions, I made the switch to starlink as soon as it was available. I've been trying to get an accurate final bill from Surfnet for over three months, with no luck. They just keep trying to bill me for $529 literally every two days (at 12:01 am) when all I owe is $140. I am not getting a correct final bill or even a call back or email despite dozens of attempts. It's beyond the pale. Run, don't walk away from them. It's only a matter of time before they fold and go bankrupt. read more

I would not recommend this company unless they are your only option. Our internet is not only slow - it goes out AT LEAST 1x a week - absolute minimum and on average 2-3 times a week. And it's not a few minutes when it's out, it's the ENTIRE DAY. If you have service on your phone, I would just get a hotspot. We have tried everything - it's just bad. You're still paying for the hours that your internet is out, you may as well spend it on something that works. Our area isn't that rural. I don't understand how the service can be so poor. read more

Spotty coverage at best in Atascadero despite having direct line of site to their tower. For the past 2 months our performance drops every evening between 4pm-11pm, ranging from 2mbps - 4mbps. Our service plan is guaranteed 15mbps. It appears they have oversold the entire bandwidth they offer to all their customers. Peak evening streaming overwhelms their system. If you only do web browsing and email you won't have a problem but at that rate you might as well invest in 5G hotspot off your mobile phone. That 5G infrastructure might just be the better service to rural ISP communities. For the past three days I've called tech support and they give me this comical sequence to follow before the say they will escalate this trouble ticket to level 2 support. Their tech support script comes direct from the the "IT Crowd" tv series. 1. Have you reset you Wi-Fi hub 2. Have you reset Surfnet broadband modems 3. We'll have level 2 service tech support call you back So I did some sleuthing to see where the holdup was on the internet during the evening witching hour. I did a traceroute to Google.com IP address and routed the path from my home computer to google. It took 3.5 milliseconds to reach Surfnet's first router. To get outside of Surfnet to their large internet service provider, it took over 3000 milliseconds (3 seconds). So the delay was getting outside of Surfnet to get access to our favorite destination with a simple tracing command. That amount of lag time (latency) in the internet service basically shuts down any reasonable streaming service. Surfnet is selling you quick response to their infrastructure but do not have a good large and reliable pipeline to service their customers demand. Pretty sure all these 5 star reviews are either from fake accounts or from people that don't understand how the internet is supposed to work. Customer service is non-existent. A service problem arises, you call in, they say nothing is worong, must be on your end. And magically the next day things are back to normal, with no action on your part. Happens all the time. Also, might as wellpay for a basic plan if you have to go with these guys. Their network cannot actually provide anything above 12mbs unless you only use it at midnight or the stars are propelly aligned. If you try them, go month to month so you don't get stuck witha term contract, they seriously suck. If they were at least honest, I could deal with it, but they will lie to your face. I pay for the 18mbs plan, never seen anything past 15, even on non-peak. read more

I've been with Surfnet for 15 years now! Both in the Santa Cruz area and here in SLO. I've had nothing but excellent customer service from them - always helpful and speedy with any technical issues. Best story: they let me put my account on hold because I'm unemployed due to COVID. But I called Dave last week to say I have an upcoming online concert and it's time to get internet back. Literally, that same day Cody came out and got me all set up again as they wanted to make sure I was set up for the event. Woot! And everything has been great. I also told my landlord about Surfnet. As far as internet service goes, Surfnet is pretty good. We live out in the country so are kind of limited to internet providers. The signal stays pretty strong and we have had very few internet outages. If you do have a problem, their tech team is ON IT! Unfortunately, their customer service, leaves A LOT to be desired. It took me almost four hours to reach them, this morning, and that was after leaving four voicemails and sending two emails. No-one ever did call me back, I had to just keep calling until someone answered the phone. For THIS reason, we will probably start looking elsewhere. read more

This company is Run by a man named Ken, who will give you the run around until you finally give up. The customer service is the worst I've ever experienced and they make no efforts to resolve problems. Our internet started having problems during the pandemic and they weren't making house calls, completely understandable....but we didn't receive service for over a month/almost two months...we asked to not have to pay that portion since they made no efforts to help us have service whether over the phone or otherwise...they stopped our service without notice....we got it up and going again and "Ken" who calls himself the top dog of the company said we would have to consult billing to see if they would wave the bill that we owed with which we weren't receiving service....they do not pick up the phone or return phone calls...so once again after weeks they stopped our service again without notifying us. No email, no phone call....I think our request of asking to not pay a bill with which we receive service seems fair and yet they have done nothing to accommodate this situation in the least. They hang up, refuse to answer the phone, can't answer question other than to take it up with "Ken" and have made it impossible to stay with them. I hope this company goes out of business and companies that care about their customers succeed. We have no problem paying for service received, just have no idea how a company can handle its customers this way....greedy, ignorant companies do not deserve to get rich.....I will tell everyone I know to go a different direction "Ken"......thank Randal for hanging up on my husband this morning. I have been a Surfnet user for over ten years. The company started out with pretty rocky service and support, installations were janky and unreliable. I'm writing this review to say that Surfnet has stepped up to the mark and changed their idea of great service. New installations are done by qualified and contentious service technicians, 24 hour tech support has been outsourced to a reliable US call center, and system reliability is greatly improved. Surfnet is a microwave based service connected by "line of sight" and does not rely on cable, DSL, satellite, or phone lines to your home. I live between Boulder Creek and Los Gatos in the mountains. We have no reliable fast internet choices other than Surfnet, and although they had a rough start I would highly recommend their service today. My speeds are 9Mbs up and down. I am not a gamer nor do I stream movies, the speeds are entirely satisfactory to work from home and extensive "surfing". read more

I have been with surfnet almost 1 year. I was a wild blue data limited customer prior to surfnet. I had been searching for unlimited data and streaming quality company that would service my area. There are only 2 companies that I found that had the qualities of unlimited data and streaming capabilities and Surfnet was the lower priced. Surfnet customer service was excellent. The young man that came out to assure that we could hook up, expidited our installment. The service man that came out soon after helped with removing the dish on my roof. Small unobtrusive receiver installed within days of calling. We have now had GREAT streaming, no problems and would diffently recommend this small company that came out of Santa Cruz. read more
