I have recommended surfaceworks to my clients on occasion as I am a realtor. In a bind with my regular house cleaner, I had them to my house a few weeks ago. They did a reasonable job but after they left I was missing $2000 from a drawer of my desk. When I called, they were shocked of course and questioned the two people that came to my house. I've been using Surface Works off and on for several years for a bi-weekly cleaning. In general, they do a terrific job, though it does vary a bit depending on who comes to clean. But, I will say they do the best job out of any cleaners I've worked with in the past. They are very punctual and respectful, especially with responding to working from home and at-home schooling requests. Surface Works is not the cheapest cleaning service, but I continue to work with them because they are the best. It is worth it for me to pay a bit more to ensure reliability. I purchased a three hour house-cleaning from Surfaceworks through the Living Social site. It was very hard to reach them- they didn't have voicemail available. They didn't have much availability when I booked, either, which I attributed to the living social deal- probably they had lots of people calling in the same few weeks. They were able to change the time of my cleaning the week of the cleaning, which I appreciated. They also sent two people, which I was surprised and pleased about, since the deal didn't specify that. I live in a one-bedroom and have previously had a regular cleaning service with only one person and after three hours, I would have a clean apartment. After three hours of cleaning and two cleaners, my apartment was still not clean. I wasn't home, so I really don't know how they spent the time. The knick-knacks on my bookshelf were dusted around-- they didn't even dust between them, so there was visible dust. I have one houseplant and they didn't pick up the dead leaves from the hardwood. The floors were mostly clean, and the bacthroom was done well, but overall, there was still lots of dust around, which was surprising after that much time and that many people cleaning a one-bedroom. I won't be using them again. Perhaps they do a better job if you aren't using a special deal, but I will not try it again to find out. read more

Surface works cleans my two-bedroom apartment once a month. It's not a hard place to clean but I want it done right and well and I don't want to have to think about it. That's why I chose Surfaceworks. They bill me monthly (and don't accept tips) and then access my apartment by talking to the building manager. They are clear about when they are coming and they arrive on time. The apartment is always spotless when they're done. So on the one hand it's not that complex what I'm asking them to do but I want that done to a high-level and accomplish it. Kudos. read more

I'll start with the positive. They were available on short notice, and the ladies who cleaned were nice. At least one of them spoke English well so we could communicate. The cleaning itself was below average as far as quality. Some areas were good, like the bathrooms and the kitchen, but the mopping left a lot to be desired. I could still see spots where things were stuck to the floor. Perhaps this is because she didn't rinse the mop one time while mopping. I'm sorry, but that is just spreading the dirt around, it is not cleaning. Some baseboards were missed entirely, and I found hairballs shortly after they left, which indicates to me that nothing was moved for vacuuming. I don't expect perfection from a cleaning company, mostly because I've never experienced it, but in my opinion, this was poor cleaning technique. Visible dust on top of the refrigerator was not touched. Also, she used way too much dusting spray. I asked them to use my non-toxic cleaners, but they chose to use the dusting spray instead. I had to open the windows because the smell was so strong. The mopping consisted of squirting Murphy's Oil Soap solution on the floor and swishing it around. As I already mentioned, not ever rinsing the mop. Although I found out about Surfaceworks through a group discount coupon deal, I feel that it turned out to be not such a great deal. Their hourly rates are higher than others, and they do not bring their own cleaning supplies. I asked for a little more time, which of course was at full rate, so I don't think I ended up getting a very good deal. I admit that I did not bother to call the office to ask for them to fix anything. I just don't do that with cleaning companies because I find it is never satisfactory when they come back, so I don't bother. I paid them for their time, they did their best, and my assessment is to go with someone else. read more

I would not not recommend his company to anyone. Like a few others, I bought the group coupon for three hours of cleaning and was not happy. Scheduling was hit or miss, but they showed up on time. The supervisor dropped the one cleaning woman off after a walk through. While scheduling I said I'd be happy to buy additional time, and repeated the request to the supervisor, but that did not happen nor did the woman offer. She did on ok job but did not move ANYTHING and was confused when I asked here to clean behind the couch. I later saw she didn't even clean under the bed and I have hardwood floors, so it's not like it would have been that hard. Same as others, she cleaned around things and didn't rinse the floors. Basically she did a half assed job. I'd attribute it to the cost, but I even offered to pay more, the request went unanswered. At precisely three hours later, the supervisor came back and she just stopped cleaning and left. I feel bad for the workers because it seems like that is how they are told to clean. I don't find it likely two other reviewers had the same exact person doing the cleaning. read more

I agree with the previous two reviews. I ordered the 3 hour special cleaning through living social with a view to using this company frequently if they did a good job. It did take a while to get an appointment, and they were difficult to contact - each time having multiple phone calls backwards and forwards. On the day three people arrived at least 20 minutes late, and proceeded to spend an hour cleaning. I guess the three hour special was three people for one hour - which was not clearly explained. The three were nice and friendly but that's where the positive stops. I was really disappointed with the clean - one entire level of the house doesn't look like it was even mopped and they did some surfaces but left others - they didn't wipe down windows which clearly had marks on them. It was just a very basic clean which I could have done myself. Would definitely not recommend. read more

These folks are wonderful. Although I live 3,000 miles from MA, I wanted to give some friends (who are going through a very, very hard time) the gift of some house cleanings. I called SurfaceWorks and set everything up with Gabriela in a few minutes. It all was very simple. When the day of the cleaning came, they contacted me to let me know that they were worried that they wouldn't be able to do a "good enough" job in the time we had allotted when they got to the house and found what greeted them. Unfortunately, I didn't get the message for a few hours. When I called back, Gabriela told me that she personally went to the location to strategize with the cleaners the best way to to use their time to get the best possible result within the time I had paid for. My friend, although embarrassed, was thrilled, and I'm really grateful to Gabriela and her crew for doing such a thorough, thoughtful job. My highest possible recommendation. read more

I have to agree with the other reviews - I purchased a 3-hour cleaning from them and I was very disappointed. I recently purchased a townhome and wanted to have all of the bathrooms (3.5), appliances and kitchen cabinets cleaned so I could just move right in. Nothing else - just those 3 areas since the place was VACANT! The 2 cleaners came on time and were very friendly and courteous. However, they barely cleaned the bathrooms (it still had dirt in the shower and along the door) and the cabinets had sticky stuff on them still from the previous owner. They hadn't wiped down any of them. When they asked me to inspect the work, I looked in the fridge and it was untouched. I asked them about it and they went back to do it only to just do a surface wipe-down. They didn't take any of the shelves out nor did they clean any of the bins. So essentially, I had to go back and clean EVERYTHING that they supposedly cleaned. It wasn't worth the aggravation of making them do it again. Its unfortunate because I was actually looking for a cleaning company on a continuous basis and had they done a decent job, they could have had a client. I guess everybody loses in this one. read more
