So unsanitary! The cooking class is not worth the expensive price. I did the summer grilling class, and I was appalled by the amount of unsanitary actions that the teacher took. They did make us wash our hands in the beginning, but they did a cleanup break halfway through and told us to go explore the shopping area. We were not asked to wash your hands when we returned and were made to cut up potatoes with our bare hands. This would've been fine because I was working with a group that I knew, but then they made us all combine our food and do a buffet style. I wasn't able to eat any of the food we've prepared and we had to sit there and watch this man use a dirty dish rag to open ovens and wipe down the surface and then also use the same rag to hold down on top of the steak to cut. He also didn't really explain what he was doing very well and didn't really teach anything. We were lost the whole time because he would half explain to just one table and not even come by to show us. I wouldn't have eaten the food because of how unsanitary it was to see being made by a bunch of strangers with unwashed hands and then mixed together but we were sitting there for two hours and so hungry the entire time. They also made us these coconut, pineapple drinks that I didn't even touch because the person that handed us our cups placed her finger inside of the cups when she was carrying it, dropped it at our table and didn't even say what it was. It wasn't a cooking class. It was mostly just standing around and watching. read more

Date of visit: May 14, 2025 I popped in here the last time I was at the mall because they used to sell Cheese Storage Bags (if you've never heard of them, they're great for keeping blocks of cheese from getting moldy) and hoped that they still carried them, even though I didn't see any on the Sur La Table website. Sadly, they did not sell cheese bags anymore. At least I don't think they do, I never saw a single employee as I went through the entire store. Everything was laid out and labeled well, so I doubt I missed them, but I will never know because there was no one there to ask! read more

Disappointed -- stopped working quickly. Poor quality for the price. lPurchased this spice grinder and it worked fine at first, but the plastic locking mechanism cracked and failed after roughly two months of normal use. Once the latch broke the lid wouldn't stay in place and it wouldn't grind. The interior parts feel flimsy and cheaply made -- not what I expected. Save your money . They don't back up the products they make!! read more

I have to say it was disappointing. Would not recommend. Not enough filling for the cannoli's we made. Should have had 3 deep fryers available for the group that was present. They had 2. Should have had 3 dishes for the dessert we made. They had 2. I would say it was just ok. read more

I took a macaron baking class. HORRIBLE!! The "instructor" barely knew how to bake and use equipment. The macarons were flat, some undercooked some overcooked. She twice ruined the buttercream frosting, used a meat thermometer for the curd, all together, horrible. Not at all hands on as it was supposed to be. I took an amazing cooking class here recently. We learned how to make croissant dough and use it to make different types of pastries. Nobody else registered for the class, so my friend and I had a private class all to ourselves. Our instructor was terrific and had so many tips and tricks for us to work with the dough and the different pastries we made together: fruit turnovers, kouign amann, and palmiers. I would recommend this experience and hope to return again to take one of the Italian or Mediterranean classes next. They also have family-friendly classes for people with kids! read more

Took an Intro to Sushi making class and it was just OK. What made it OK was the other class attendees. The instructor [who indicated he had 50 years of cooking experience]rushed us through each item and really never explained anything. It was so haphazard that I really didn't learn anything. The sushi rice was undercooked, and the only star of the show was the Matcha ice cream. My suggestion is buy a "Sushi Making for Dummies" book rather than pay $95 for the class. read more

My husband and I did the Date Night sushi making class and had so much fun! We were interested in trying a new skill a little unfamiliar to us and this was the perfect opportunity. They have so many classes to chose from, for a variety of age ranges. The class was small and we all worked together to make some delicious sushi. Our instructor and assistants (sous chefs?) were all very helpful and encouraging throughout the night. We learning about making the perfect sushi rice, preparing your vegetables, and preparing various proteins for our rolls. Then, customized our rolls and enjoyed them with a variety of sauces. Yum! In addition to the class, you get 10% off at the store after your class, a great bonus. Overall, we had a great time and will hopefully comeback for more! read more

Sur La Table provided the perfect setting to kick off my husband's birthday week celebration. We relished crafting dishes like salmon, salad, French onion soup, and crème brûlée - his favorite. Sous Chef Morgan's kindness and patience enhanced the experience, making us eager to return. The only thing I would suggest is being a tad more considerate with allergies. I put that my hubby has an onion allergy and they reached out inquiring, but I assumed they would allow us to make separate salads for him to enjoy. However, because everything is prepared family style, he was only able to enjoy the salmon and dessert. We both look forward to exploring and purchasing their impressive range of products. Attended a Classic Fried Chicken, Nashville Hot Chicken and buttermilk biscuits class at the Sur La Table. We loved this class because it was not about just watching, at these classes, its about doing, real hands-on learning. We chopped, stirred, dredged, fried...and the best part, ATE! The classes are kinda pricey, but learned alot of new things while frying chicken. The instructor (Chef Jake) was very fun, very knowledgable and helpful. I will definitely come back for another class. Their calendar is packed full of classes all month long, every month. If I lived closer I would be there every weekend. Good time! read more

Less snooty than Williams Sonoma but more upscale than Bed, Bath & Beyond, this store has everything the home cook can possibly need (and then some). As others have noted, there is a huge amount of gadgetry here - strawberry hullers, bean de-stringers and an avocado knife...that's right...a knife specifically for cutting avocados because EVERYONE needs one of those. A regular knife JUST WON'T DO. I liked the broad selection and that they generally had items in multiple price points. You CAN spend $2700 on an espresso maker, but you don't have to. They have good sized sections for bakers, grillers and general cook's needs. There were a lot of helpful emplyees around to answer questions. I didn't care for the screw job pricing on cooking classes - $70?! Are they on something? Also, the helpful employees seemed to disappear at check out time and of course, I got stuck behind "cookie cutter hoarder lady" who was buying 800 cookie cutters on clearance AND who insisted on the sale price for each be announced.....sigh... Still, it's a nice store for both the dedicated cook and the novice who just needs the basics. read more

I was very disappointed in the cooking class i took. It was called the "South American Steak Night". The chef was rushing through a lot of the knife techniques and when i asked him to explain the technique, it seemed as though it was the biggest pain for him to repeat what he did. I've been to Braise's cooking class and i felt they did a much better job. In addition, $70 for a cooking class is a bit much if the chef doesn't want to walk through things you ask. Therefore, i would recommend Braise over Sur la Table. I posted a picture of what the cooking class offered and what the final product of our meal was. I was so hungry after and had to buy some pizza. Definitely not enough food and the chef didn't seem to be enjoying his time. read more

As a frequent online shopper, I am happy that they opened a brick and mortar store at Hilldale. Sometimes, you want to touch/feel/try before buying something and Sur La Table is set up for that. The staff is helpful in case you have any questions. Two qualms I have: 1) Some items are overpriced vs. what you can find online at other retailers. 2) No embedded Nespresso store (as some stores elsewhere have). Would love to purchase the pods here vs. ordering online. read more

For Christmas for my wife, I ordered a date night cooking class from Sur La Table. I ordered it two months in advance and took advantage of a 10% discount. 10 days before the event I got a phone call that they had decided to book a private party and cancel everyone in the class. I was offered to be moved to the 4pm class. Not exactly date "night" or a time I want to stuff myself with steak and lobster. So I had the website up and said no problem, I'll pick a class on another day. I was told "our reservation system doesn't work that way." You were about to move me to another class, and now you can't. I was told I had to cancel and rebook. I asked about the 10% discount I booked under and was told "I guess you lose that." I was then told if I felt this wasn't an adequate solution I could email customer service. I have two emails to customer service and nothing but the automated "someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible." Classless. read more

Absolutely love this place! I have recently got into cooking at home and this place has EVERYTHING you can imagine or need in the kitchen. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products, their applications, and uses. If there is a specility, high-end, or general use item that you need for your kitchen for cooking or baking they will have it. Recently (well actually yesterday), I took the Essential Knife Skills class. This is my first Sur La Table class and first cooking class ever. The instructor, Zak, is personable, professional, and funny to boot. The athmosphere of the class was very inviting. Walking in I was greeted by Judy who asked what refreshment I wanted with chairs for each person with a packet of all the info we go over in the class with a 10% coupon attached. The class ran for 2 hours long including some light snacks and refreshments. Overall, great learning atmosphere and experience. I would highly recommend their classes. Whether it is their classes or just going to pick up supplies or ask questions, you can't go wrong with Sur La Table. read more

This is definitely an upgrade from your standard William Sonoma. The staff is all extremely friendly and willing to help. I have never come out empty handed. They always have exactly what I'm looking for and usually have an array of different choices. Not to mention they'll make you a lovely cup of coffee to sip while you shop :) I took one of their baking classes last weekend with my Mom and it was excellent. I took the one where we made a buche de noel - or a holiday yule log for us common folk. The class is extremely hands on and educational. The chef that taught it was knowledgeable and able to get everyone involved regardless of their baking experience. The end result was beautiful and I was even a little impressed with myself. For a birthday gift my wife took a friend here for a cookie decorating class and for her description of the class and what she brought home I am outraged to say the least. $75.00 per person and the person who ran the class was a fill in that knew less than most of the people who paid to attend. The techniques advertised were not taught and the instructor (I use that term loosely) seamed to have limit kitchen skills let alone the ability to teach others. My sister took a cake decorating class at WCTC for $35.00 and now runs a successful wedding cake business in Oregon. I could have taught them how to do this myself and saved $150.00. I made 4 dozen decorated cookies last nigth and even was able to make the allergyfreindly vegan, something the so called experts atSur La Table were not able to do. All I can say is outrageous. If anyone out there wants to learn how to decorated Christmas cookies let me know, I won't charge you a dime. read more

I admit that I have a kitchen gadget shopping problem. Fortunately, Sur la Table is far enough away and expensive enough that I don't come in very often. Today I wandered in looking for a gift. The staff were immediately welcoming and even offered a latte or espresso to enjoy while shopping. That's a nice touch from a kitchen gadget shop. They have lots of things, some fancy, some not, mostly expensive, and a good variety of things. They do also offer cooking classes occasionally as well. For high end gadgeteers like me, this is like Disneyland. read more

My boyfriend is UBBBB-SESSED with the place, but it really doesn't do me good. In fact, something is very fishy about all of it. The concept is great. Good quality cookware and contraptions and cooking classes to teach you how to use the stuff. Too bad everything is so overpriced. Ridiculously overpriced, and if you're easily fooled, you'll be spending hundreds of dollars in minutes. They do have free espresso. So I love them for that. In general though, maybe go to Bolter for cooking classes, or the Milwaukee public market. I think you get more for your money. I do not usually walk around Bayshore, ... I park close to where I need to go and get in and out, so even though I live close, I knew of William Sonoma, Alterra, B&N, and Trader Joes... and ignored the rest. Yesterday I wanted to pick up a pair of jeans (see my other reviews ...ick!) and also needed a replacement CO2 canister for my sodastream, so I parked in the structure, and walked to William Sonoma.. it is GONE!! I guess that's what I get for clicking the spam button on their emails. I ended up FINALLY finding a pair of jeans that fit and that actually looked like jeans at the GAP... when I walked out of the Gap, I saw Sur La Table.... Great - HUGE selection of gadgets at ALL price ranges, awesome selection of cutlery. I have a 16x13" roasting pan from All Clad in my wishlist now, if anyone was wondering what to buy me. read more

Sur la table is really cool. Having spent a lot of time in competitor stores for cooking supplies with my mother I must say Sur la Table is rather impressive. The cooking class I took there was also superb and the food was delicious. Though I would have liked to be able to get a little bit more creative with the food, it was very well done and the measurements were so exact. My favorite parts of the store: the knives and the espresso machines. Of course there are a lot of little trinkets to fulfill your undiscovered kitchen needs. read more

Umm freaking awesome, but I agree with Tony- dangerous! So many glorious kitchen tools, gadgets, and accessories. They have a cookie cutter for almost anything you could desire. Every household needs a giraffe, cactus, foot, and beehive cookie cutter, right? I almost jumped with joy when I saw the Cuisinart food processors and mixers in a rainbow of colors. Hot pink and bright purple? Yes, please. Don't get me started on the espresso makers. Amazingly high tech and awesome. Which one did I like most? The one that was almost 3 grand. Hahah, yeah no. As someone who's in school for a baking/pastry certificate, I can verify that this store is dangerous. Was super-excited and proud of myself when I walked out having only spent $12! Love the baking section - every decorating tip you could want, couplers, cupcake papers, huge selection of cookie cutters and more. They have their own line of bakeware that was incredibly reasonably priced and was also on sale and I can't wait to try it. Be careful about getting sucked into the gadget vortex - remember that you don't actually need a special gadget to do every little thing in the kitchen. They also offer an industry discount, which I thought was cool. Show a membership card or pay stub and fill out a small slip and you get a card to show every time you check out. They also offer classes, but I find them disappointingly overpriced. $79/person for a couple hour cooking class is insane. This will likely become my go-to spot for kitchen gear. Staff was friendly and helpful, but not pushy. Tweeted to see anyone else had used their bakeware, looking for opinions and the corporate folks answered me - that's pretty on the ball. read more

Ah yes, sur la table. Sooooo difficult for many to pronounce. But, for those that can, you'll soon realize that the French name is there for a reason. The French bring upscale to cooking, and the cooking products that are for sale here are definitely up scale. But that's ok, if you cook. All too often, you're looking for something nice and spend hours searching the city for it. Search no more, and just go here first. High quality everything. Knives, small appliances, crockery and pans, coffee makers, beverage containers/servers, and the list goes on and on. I am a Sur la Table fanatic from way back. I loved the original Seattle location and this is my favorite shop in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. I can't step inside the store without buying something. I took my dad to a knife skills class here and the staff were AMAZING. My dad is generally in wheelchair though he can get around on crunches. I did some scouting and Chef Michael was GREAT. He had a stool and really helped me make the class a great experience for my father. We will definitely be back. read more

Really, extremely expensive kitchenware and appliances. There are some good deals on clearance items. There was a pressure cooker book that had a very low price and the clerk refused to honor the price. She said that the book was offered for one of their demos, but could not be purchased at the price, as marked. I asked what the price was and she said that she did not know, and she tucked the book under her arm and hid it in the back. The episode was very interesting. The product lines offered in the store are outstanding, but pricing is out of control, in my opinion. It's a fun place to dream! read more

We had a very negative experience. The night of our $80 class there was a snow emergency. Businesses were closing early and sending people home. Schools and community centers were canceling events. I live across town and the weather forecast said things would get much worse during the time I would be in the class. We called to see if the class was being canceled and if we could reschedule for the next time. We were told absolutely not, that we could sign up for the next class, but would have to pay for both. My partner, who lives close to the store, attended the class but was treated coldly by the instructor after she told him I was not attending because of the weather. And, he took away the recipe packet that was intended for me. She pointed out that even though I wasn't in attendance I should at LEAST receive the recipes we paid for. She was then given a used packet that was stained, written on and dog-eared. For the rest of the evening, my friend was treated with a cold shoulder as if she was being difficult. I wrote the company about the bad experience and received an automatic response that they would reply within 48 hours. That was 3 weeks ago and we've heard nothing. The class was a holiday gift to me from my dear friend. She spent $160 for the two of us and I received nothing but a printed sheet of recipes. read more

This place is a foodie's playground:). They have some beautiful knives and cookware. You can actually test out the knives on veggies. Yes, they are expensive but I would much rather spend more on a quality product that will last forever with proper care, than some cheap Walmart pan pan I'll have to replace in a few months.
