Who knew Sur la Table offered cooking classes?!?! This was a super fun experience and way less intimidating than I originally imagined. Very non cook friendly, haha. The class lasts about 2.5 hours and includes your meal, of course, at the end. I would have loved to enjoy our steak dinner with a glass of red wine, but this location (and maybe them all) don't have a liquor license, so this was a miss for me. But, that said, I do get why the lot would forgo the license. There was some cooking magic, which speeds things up and helps bypass some of the tedious parts of some recipes. If you're wanting to cook everything from beginning to end, this may not be your best option. But, if you're wanting to get a real sense of how to cook / bake differ t things with a fun atmosphere to boot, this is for you! read more

I scheduled my whole day around being able to pick up an online order at 8:45, which should have taken two minutes, and the doors were locked. Everything I read said they close at 9. No notice of special hours on the door or the website. I drove way out of my way for this pickup order and needed it today, so this was extremely frustrating and a massive waste of time. read more

My daughter signed us up for the Dolce Italiana class as my holiday gift. The class was scheduled from 10-12 but when we arrived a few minutes early, the doors were locked. Someone else who was waiting let us know that they don't open the doors till 10. Once they did open, we spent 15 minutes browsing the retail area waiting for the class to start. Once we got inside the classroom, we were directed to the coat rack and then to the sink to wash up and put on our aprons. Chef Laurie was our instructor and she did a great job of demonstrating and helping everyone. It was a full class of 16 and when I mentioned to her that I felt we were being rushed, she let me know that it's much better with less students. I really feel like they should cap the class at a smaller number to ensure everyone feels they aren't so rushed. We worked in groups of 4 so my daughter and I were paired with another couple - who we really clicked with. All of our ingredients were pre-measured on trays for each of the 3 pastries that we made. We made our Bomboloni dough but didn't use it because it takes too long to rise so we used pre-made dough and Laurie would use the dough we made for something else. Working in a group of 4 actually helped us finish everything more quickly because while someone was doing one thing, the others were doing something else. I did feel like I didn't get to do much though - I would have liked to actually do all the steps. Then we made our Tiramisu and it was taken away to be refrigerated. Laurie had a helper who did all the washing up of our bowls, tools, and mixer pieces so they were ready for the next item, and that was a big help. Next we made our cannoli shells and while those were frying, we made the filling. Then we cut out our Bomboloni dough and fried and filled that. The pastries came out pretty good but because we were so rushed we weren't able to make an even number to split between the groups. The class ended before noon which seemed very short. I enjoyed the class but I think this could have been a much better experience if they had actually given us the 120 minutes or capped the class at less people. read more

I took a cooking class here. It was not a "class" at all. We learned nothing. First off, the room was freezing. It was most definitely an uncomfortable temperature. There were 3 trays of raw ingredients. The "instructor" basically just told us to cut and throw in ingredients and he went WAY too fast. I looked around and everyone looked confused and were all on different steps. People had to keep asking what we did next because everyone got lost because he went so fast. He didn't explain ANYTHING to us at all. Literally just told us to cut thing and then to throw them in. The dumplings were meh. The soup was OK (the girl across from me had a sip and pushed her bowl away while making a face) and even the instructor said he hates this soup. The drunken noodles were very tasty. I also noticed the instructor threw out our extra soup instead of giving it to us to take home. Not worth the $200. NOPE. read more

It was a bit disappointing. The cooking area is small and crowded. When you sign up it does state that four people will share a cooking space. What it does not state is that all four people will share one small cook stove and all of the ingredients, utensils, bowls, etc. You are all cooking one meal. Two pieces of the equipment were of poor quality and broke. The "chef" seemed flustered and did not teach us. Some of the ingredients she demonstrated with were old and she did not even use them. There is no area for eating once the meal is prepared. You stand at tables set up in the cooking area. We arrived ~12 minutes before the class was to start and we were told to browse and shop. During the class there was a 15 minute break where we were encouraged again to browse and shop. I would not recommend. read more

Disappointed in Sur La Table - Not Worth the Hype or the Price I expected more from a store and experience of Sur La Table's caliber. My family--my spouse, son, and daughter-in-law--signed up for a cooking class together. The class description said we'd be "paired in groups of four," so we called ahead to confirm we could all sit together. We were told there was no assigned seating, but we could request it upon arrival. That part went smoothly--they did seat us together. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. Strike One: The class didn't account for group sizes when it came to meal portions. While we were four people, other pairs received the same amount of food. That meant our group had to share what others had to themselves. As a result, most of the prep time, we sat around with nothing to do while watching others enjoy the hands-on experience. If you're going to group four people together, there should be enough utensils, ingredients, and equipment for everyone to participate equally. Strike Two: For $90 per person, I expected more than a scant half-pound of ground chicken for dumplings, a couple of ounces of shrimp, and tofu as the fallback protein (which should only be standard for vegan options). The portions were minimal and honestly felt like an afterthought. Strike Three: The instructor rattled off directions so quickly that many people kept asking for clarification. The pace made it hard to follow and enjoy the class. The only saving grace was spending time with family--which, frankly, I could've done just as well over a lovely dinner out. For $360+ total, we could've had a great meal and a bottle of wine somewhere else just as memorable. Generously giving this 2 stars. read more

The Chef's were not the employee's who had been working in the store. We entered class and were immediately Welcomed by Chef Dean (Please excuse me if the name is incorrect) he introduced himself, where he trained, and previously worked. Then had the class say a little about ourselves. Very warm, and welcoming. Everything was ready, & well organized for class. We worked in groups of four. He explained extra cooking information that was great info to use at home. We worked in easy steps, everything ran very smoothly. The food was completed at precisely the right time. We all sat down and ate our prepared meal. You chat with folks you've never met. Chef had low nice music playing. Chef chatted with everyone the entire time. All in all a great experience in the cooking class. Unfortunately, due to the prior experience we personally will not repeat this. Classes range in prices and are both inexpensive to higher end cost classes. Children's classes are also offered. Thank you Chef. You are wonderful at your job. I've read cookbooks and/or recipe cards but this was my very first cooking class to participate. As a decent cook (to self-claim myself as), I've got some skills and have cooked and served for many in the past but did I learn something new in yesterday's Italian cooking class? Hell yes! And we had fun with jokes/laughs etc. It sure was worth the $$ (wasn't super cheap to be frank.) We made all lemon based: chicken marinated in lemon, olive oil, salt/pepper, garlic, and shallot, broccolini marinated in salt/pepper, lemon zest/lemon juice, shredded pecorino, and olive oil, risotto cooked in olive oil, saffron, salt/pepper, butter and lemon. The recipe was very simple and you really don't need special skills to make what we made last night. The chef's instructions were also simple, clear and were very easy to understand. You'll be in a fully equipped kitchen so you really don't need to bring anything with you. Great for ladies'/girls' get-together or date night or even family fun. If you want some little twist to your outing plans, gather a group of people and get reserved at this place for a fun cooking class (each class is maxed at 16 people.) read more

Terrible on line order experience. I had many items and qualified for Free Shipping and their system sneakily added some BS shipping insurance fee. I did not add it, their system automatically added it and disguised it in the total tally on the right. Very shady and obviously they hope you wont see this. Furter, another item was out of stock and it was not indicated anywhere. Third their system did not send an order summary to my email. (Yes, the email was correct.) had to call, hold for a long time and beg for a copy to be sent which further disguised the behind the scenes fake shipping charge. My credit card informed me of the fake fee so I called and explained this and also asked them to check the notes on my order where I never received a copy of the order whereby I could have caught their shady business practice of the shipping charge after advertising free shipping. I was met with a snide you should have caught that our system automatically added fees you didn't ask for. There are lots of kitchen stores that are transparent and provide at least a minimum of customer service and they will get my future business. BTW the backordered item date has changes three times now and the wedding registry items that I bought through the registry are not updating as bought. Do they do this hoping to get extra business and make couples deal with dups- would not surprise me at all. This place needs to fix their tech issues and stop being scummy when these tech issues are bought to their attention. read more

This is our first time taking a cooking date night class through Sur La Table and it was worth every moment! The instructor did a wonderful job taking us step by step in creating our dinner menu! He made it fun and very easy to follow. We had some great Motown music in the background. Which made cooking fun and fulfilling. The food came out wonderful and delicious!!! We were surprised with a delicious Panna Cotta for dessert!! We were emailed the recipe at the end of the evening. This truly completed our evening. We not only left class with a full belly and heart. We left the class with wonderful friendships. Will definitely be taking another class very soon!!! read more

My husband and I attended the date night cooking class ( a Christmas gift from my husband). It was a sold-out class, and we were very excited to try it! We showed up a little early and walked around the store. The class before us ran a little over, so our class started a little late. We get to our station and think we will cook our meal. We were wrong; it's a group effort, so we're not making sure that people genuinely wash their hands after they are on their phones or touching their hair and then handling our food, etc. We were packed in with too many couples and not enough room to move, making it difficult to cook and get the chef's attention. You can't tailor your food at all. I don't like salt in my food, and I don't want a lot of butter, etc. The steaks were very rare, and I couldn't eat my food. There weren't enough seats for everyone to sit and eat, so some people had to stand and eat. When you pay $200 for a meal, they should have places to sit and should be tailored to what you don't like in your food. read more

I just completed the Ramen cooking class with two of my friends. There were 10 people in the class. I looked around after we ate the Ramen that we had made. I noticed that no one had eaten more than 50% of the food . Some people only ate a couple of bites. It was not good at all: the noodles were gummy, the pork was fatty, and the strong tuna flavor of the broth was not appetizing. At $89 a person we were all disappointed. I think this class should be scrapped because the process for preparing the noodles and the broth is very long, and the ingredients have to be purchased at an Asian market. It's just not feasible that anyone would make this. I am giving two stars because the chef and the staff were very nice. read more

So much fun!! Last week I found myself without any plans one night, so I thought I'd see what cooking classes Sur la Table had on the schedule. It was "Italian Kitchen: Siena Countryside" which sounded amazing, plus they had a code for 40% off. Done and done. The class was on a Tuesday from 7-9pm. There were 8 of us in class, and one instructor, Geralyn, who was very knowledgeable and a great teacher. The menu: Grilled Hanger Steak with Salsa Verde and Toasted Hazelnuts, Rigatoni with Charred Eggplant and Smoked Mozzarella, and Local Fruit Crostata. Everything was super fun to prepare and even more fun to eat. Delicious!! I cook a lot at home but I did learn some new techniques and I can't wait to sign up for another class! read more

So we took the recent Halloween cookie class. Instructor was frazzled through the entire class because she had never made the cookies before and seemed freaked out the entire time because they were taking longer than she thought. She was sort of barking orders and then barked at the kids "DON'T TOUCH THE COOKIES! THINK OF THIS AS A PROFESSIONAL KITCHEN" well um yeah sure but they're kids. And it's a HANDS ON BAKING CLASS. The same kids that were touching the cooked cookies were then taking them home (they were touching the cookies right in front of them, not the other group's cookies). Other instructor came in at the end and started talking with our instructor about the next class so we were left to wrap up the frosting of the cookies without much of a glance. We just kind of left. My experience was with a kids cooking camp. I signed up my daughters two months ahead of time for a week long camp. The time came to start 7/5/21. The camp was supposed to start at noon on 7/5. At about 11:20 am I got a call that the entire week to camp is cancelled due to a staffing issue. Did you not know about you stuffing issue till 40 minutes until class start? Had to scramble to find something else for my kids to do and cancel a bunch of appointments that were set while the kids were supposed to be at this camp. I get it cancellations happen, but I'm positive they knew about it longer than just the 40 minutes before the start. Very disappointing. read more

I did a cooking class with them and left extremely angry. The recipes and cooking is good but the instructors are extremely rude and mean. I make one little mistake and just get bashed for it. I have been to this location twice now for cooking classes and I cant wait to go again! While these classes can be expensive, they are seriously worth the money! Last time I went, it was a surprise birthday present for my boyfriend and at the end of the class, the chef brought out a dessert with candles and we all sang Happy Birthday. This was totally above and beyond and really made the surprise special. Beyond this, the food was delicious and the chef was so personable. We made flan, cojita cheese corn and mango salsa chicken with sofritas. I would recommend going during the week though because the classes are about 10$ cheaper per person and the class sizes are really small ( both times, it was myself and a guest and one other couple). read more

I want to start with the positives. Our chef who led the class was great! She was knowledgeable and the class was easy to follow. The food was decent, but gave me terrible heartburn. However, there are a couple oversights I'm not particularly thrilled about. For instance, I found out I was pregnant after signing up for the class. According to the dishes we were cooking, there was only one that sounded like I wouldn't be able to eat (champagne chocolate truffles). I'm not big on chocolate, so we decided to go ahead and keep the class. What I didn't know is every single dish with the exception of the main course had alcohol in it. However, the main course had deli meat that was not cooked thoroughly. The disclaimer online says food allergies but never specified anything about alcohol in almost every dish. Although the alcohol is mostly cooked out, it is never safe to have any amount while pregnant. Not once did it mention alcohol would by cooked in almost every dish. Had I known, I would have called ahead to specify. Also, since I'm so early in my pregnancy, it's been difficult to openly mention it to people. I can't 100% fault them. I should have been more proactive, but according to the dishes listed, it made it look like I could have the dishes without issue. So if you are pregnant, do not take a class without first calling and verifying! I ended up walking out hungry since I felt like it was only ok to eat a spoonful of each dish. Just felt like a waste of money. The class itself is fairly straightforward. All of the ingredients are cut up and pre-measured. So all you have to do is combine ingredients in order. The only caveat, is when you have a ton of people talking over each other or the chefs voice doesn't carry, I can be very easy to miss adding an ingredient at the right time. This happened to us twice and so our food didn't turn out as expected. I would have found it helpful to have a printed out recipe to follow during the class. With how much I paid, I feel like I deserve the recipe written down too so I can try it at home. There's also a rather stupid rule that you cannot bring any leftover food home. You either have to sit there and finish or it gets thrown out. So the majority of my food had to be thrown out since my husband couldn't eat two helpings of the food. Since my pregnancy is my own dietary issue, I'm not going to inconvenience others. But it would have been nice to take home so my husband could eat the leftovers. The whole experience just felt a little awkward. Lots of random people that you have to cook with, share pots and ingredients. Just wasn't exactly for me. I can see why others would like it. But personally for me, I didn't think it was worth the money. The few bites I tried of the food had too much butter and didn't taste great (granted that most likely had to do with the missing ingredients). Glad I tried it. But probably won't do again. read more

My wife and I were in the market for a good quality espresso and cappuccino maker. After googling several brands, we went with the Brevelle. Micheal the manager walked us through the entire operating procedures and was very professional. The sales staff is great. Very professional, but not stuffy After a couple of cappuccinos, I was lit up like a Christmas tree. Received a nice discount too. It was a very fun date night, and the staff was personable and nice. It was a great experience and fun idea, but here is why I am only able to give it two stars. 1. Cost - The meal was basically food-chain restaurant steak and potatoes, but it cost $80 per person. If this was a decent cut of meat with decadent sides, I wouldn't have an issue. Sadly, that wasn't the case. 2. Didn't really learn anything - The chef in charge was very nice and was fun to interact with. However, she was a pastry chef, and it was clear she really didn't have much experience/knowledge about savory cooking. It was more like a paint-by- numbers experience, instead of an actual class. We didn't walk away with any new information or skills. Basically, we paid them to do our prep and dishes. This was another reason we had a problem with the price. I am okay paying more if you teach me things and give me something to walk away with. 3. Taste - The steak and red-wine sauce tasted pretty good, but the gnocchi were nasty! They absorbed so much water when cooking, that they basically fell apart. They didn't have any flavor, and the texture was gross!! Additionally, the pesto that was put on top just added to the moisture problem. Again, it was a great idea. It was just very poorly executed. My beau and I have taken several cooking classes here and love them! He now makes the best crepes ever!!! Last night we made some of the best pie I've ever eaten in my life:) These classes are as much about learning "how" to make a recipe as they are about learning the tricks of the trade. Each chef we've had has been tremendously friendly and encouraging, and also available outside of the class for any questions about fine tuning your skills. I would highly recommend for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable in the kitchen, a wonderful date night, or just a night out with friends. The classes offer some of the best coffee while your there as well. I greatly appreciate how much fun I have learning a few skills in theses classes;) Hats off the the wonderful chefs whom conduct these classes!!! read more

Love me some Sur La Table and so happy to discover that I don't have to venture down to the chaos that is Park Meadows. I stopped in here during my lunch hour to get some knives sharpened ($5 per knife!) and trade-in my empty Soda Stream bottle. Things were pretty quiet in the store as they were putting out clearance items and making room for the next season's decor, but I didn't mind since the woman that helped me offer to sharpen my knives while I waited! Normally it's a day or two for them to turn them around, so I happily waited 15 minutes ? tops? for her to sharpen my 3 knives. Better 15 minutes in the store than 2 days without my beloved knives! Anyway, I always love perusing their kitchen decor. They have such cute seasonal stuff - I normally can't resist buying at least one thing, but nonetheless - it makes for a fun store to browse. They also have a pretty large kitchen for cooking classes at the front of the store. I've never taken a class, but they've always intrigued me so mental note! I was also stoked that I could trade-in my Soda Stream bottle for a refill here. I think it was $17.95 when you bring in the empty bottle to recycle? Certainly beats the heck out of buying a new one at $25+. read more

They have a wide variety of classes from baking, grilling, international cuisine, sauces, salads and much more. Chef Diedra Rae is very knowledgeable, was upbeat, and managed our 9-person group with much grace and poise. What is even more surprising is you get to keep the food you prepare and in your class, and in my class, we were given addition dough, plus, you receive a store discount. What a killer deal!!! We learned so much and we can't wait to try to make the salad with pomegranate vinaigrette, pork with cherry-port sauce, green beans, and creme brulee at home. (My husband really wants a creme brulee torch- now dessert is manly). There were so many little tidbits of information and technique ideas that made us think, "I didn't know that!"
