i had the best time here ! i know what you are thinking, how can a store be fun but they offer cooking classes. as a gift for some friends we brought them here for a cooking class. they offer tons of different types of food and lots of dates to pick from. we chose the Vietnamese class since its a food we love to eat and seems to not be very complicated. you're allowed to bring beer and wine so we brought both of course. while we drank our booze we learned to cook pho, thai lettuce wraps and pad thai and it was all amazing plus you get to eat everything you cook. we had tons of laughs and no one cut themselves with the super sharp knives so I would highly recommend the classes if you want to try something new. read more

I would rate this a sub par cooking class. The chef came with frozen sea food for our seafood paella. A $150 meal and the seafood is frozen. Also no alcohol allowed? I would of loved to have a glass of wine with my meal at the end. But that wasn't allowed. The recipe itself was so amateur in nature it was silly. I would of rather sat at home with my life and watched a spanish paella youtube video. That would of been much more enjoyable. Also, the Chef teaching class was leaving the company In 5 days and you could tell by her personality. It was like paint- dryer over time. Book somewhere else. Save your money and your time. read more

I love to cook and I could spend all my money at this place. I also absolutely enjoy their cooking classes. Even Gordon Ramsey shops here so thats enough persuasion for me.. At this point I think I've done about 3 or 4 classea and have always had a good time. The staff is extremely knowledgable about their products and can always help find what you need. I always get inspired and really need restraint from purchasing stuff I dont absolutely have to have (who am I kidding I can definitely make the argument). If you love to cook check them out and make sure to take a class too! read more

It's such a nice store!! This store is larger than others I have seen. This location has cooking classes on location- which makes it very cool. All mise en place per station, big windows that you can look from the outside, this store is cool. From baking to grilling, to equipping your kitchen with ALL possible gadgets to a ton of utensils for baking, cooking, etc.... You will find it here. I love coming here, there is stuff in the store that you would not find it in a regular store. Inspired to cook? Come to SurLeTable... And have a nice shopping experience ! read more

Imagine a store with the most over the top insanely un-needed kitchen gadgetry. Well imagine no more bc sur la table has some insane cool cooking stuff. All my foodies and kitchen warriors know you really don't NEED several different kinds of cookie cutters and goblets, wine accessories, grill gadgets etc. But it's just so fun! The prices for most things are crazy high. You can find similar items yet in a totally unorganized setting at home goods. It's worth a visit even just to browse. I did score some mugs that were deemed "halloween" bc they were owl mugs 75% off they rung up for like 2 bucks. So there are some hidden gems in the clearance areas. read more

The staff and the store are great, but I was saddened by my most recent experience. My granddaughter attended the 2 day Teen baking camp with Chef Guy. What a horrid experience! Chef Guy was neither personable nor professional. He was not particularly knowledge about the baking techniques he was supposed to be teaching. The first day, he had my granddaughter standing around the stove with all the other kids making a buttercream that he said was awful and needed to be thrown out. Very discouraging! The macarons they made looked like little pink "poop emojis" as my granddaughter put it. This was a very expensive and disappointing experience for both of us. read more

I went in to browse for a new pan and to get my knives sharpened . Yes they sharpen your knives @5$ per knife after first one is free. My child attended the Kids Series Class this Summer. The expectation was very high for a very positive experience. This is not what was experienced. Cons: 1. The first day, the kids worked in groups of 7. 7 kids working on making one pie. Hardly inspiring for the first day of classes. For the cost of the class ($30/hr), the idea of a few kids per pie was not unreasonable. Later in the week, they did work in smaller groups however to start in a group of 7 on the first day is a poor and ridiculous class management decision. 2. The chef was not at all child friendly. Again, the expectation here was for a fun, silly or animated type chef who would really interact with the kids and be entertaining. Not even close. Chef Jeremiah didn't modify his persona for the kids at all. In fact, many days, kids complained he had yelled at them or made insulting comments. Sur La Table needs to (greatly) step up their choice of Chef when dealing with kids. 3. Recipes for each day's work were not provided automatically, you had to request them. Some days, when hurried for pick up, if you forgot to ask, you didn't get the recipe and that is just incredibly annoying. 4. There was an incident of scalding hot water being dropped one day by a student and landing on at least two children. One child's leg was scalded and treated with ice. The parents were not notified. There should be (at the very least) a warning for children to wear pants each day. 5. For a big, well established company like Sur La Table, it's surprising that the children were not even offered the most basic of utensils to keep (cutting board, spoon, etc)...other than the apron, you leave with nothing except photo copied recipes (not even well presented or laminated.) Pro: 1. Although admittedly noting that the chef was not engaging and unfriendly at times, my child did express that experience was enjoyable. For the money, (and the drive if you don't live near Mizner) there are several other good options for a more personalized, warm and loving cooking experience. Just google "Kids cooking in Broward" or whatever county you live in. It's wonderful to expose to kids cooking and baking at young ages, however if you are willing to accept less, you will get less. That is what we got here. Less for a lot more. In good Health! F. read more

The Parisi and kitchen. Instructor Nicole M. She had a very nice personality, however this class didn't come close to my expectations! The class had about 9 students. We took our third cooking class at sur la table in mizner last night, and just like the other two occasions, we had a great experience. The staff is friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are already prepared. The instructions are simple, and the dishes turn out great. We've done two seafood and one steak class. There are 4 people per cooking table and this is a fun activity with another couple or more. You can bring your own wine although if you forget or run out, you can go across the street during a 10 minute break while the entrees cook to Kapow across the street and buy wine at 50% off a bottle (special for the cooking class members). The classes fill up rather quickly as they are small so make sure to plan ahead. Well worth the fun experience with great food and company. Check it out and enjoy! read more

Attended a cooking class here the other night which I've got to say is a very fun experience. I went with a friend but most attending were couples. I didn't realize that you could bring a bottle of wine and they would serve it to you while you cooked. I RAN out of there to buy a bottle from Max's grill a few doors down. The cooking is all hands on and they have one instructor along with 2-3 assistants who are constantly helping, cleaning up, loading and unloading the ovens. Serving our wine (as well as complementary coffee, water). The instructor was very informative and they gave you the recipes printed so you could take them home and duplicate them. At the end of the class, you get a coupon to use in the store for a 10% discount. For $79, you get a cooking lesson, dinner (you eat what you cook), a fun night out and you meet new people. Definitely worth the price. Will do again and again.... read more

Cooking class: We tried this place out for my birthday and had a great time. The chef and staff were friendly and food was delicious. We didn't know what to expect going in. Upon entering the kitchen classroom, a hot soup is ready and they encourage generous helpings (help yourself to seconds). This was a nice touch because smelling the kitchen made us hungry and we still had to cook before we could eat. You get to taste each course as you finish it (ate salad as soon as it was prepared), then ate main dish as dessert was baking. Then dessert was served to us as soon as main course was eaten. The chef was willing to answer any questions. Time allotted to browse the store and you get 10% off store purchases. TIPS / AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT : When we arrived, the store cashier mentioned that we could have brought our own bottle of wine from home and when we said no we didn't know that, she said "oh we try to let everyone know that before coming." I made the original reservation over the phone and they also had my number and email address if they wanted to share that information. A slight bummer because we ended up running across the street before class began to buy a bottle that wasn't a favorite at a cost much higher than if we had brought our own. If you go to the class in a pair, expect to share the cooking tools and jobs with another couple. Meeting new people added to the fun so that was not a problem, but 4 people involved in cooking the same dish meant a lot of turn taking (limited hands-on) which left us feeling like we only really learned how to cook portions of the meal, and are not confident trying it at home. I would have liked for each of us to have smaller portions that we could all try out the techniques being taught instead of just watching. read more

This was an amazing experience worth every penny. I know it seems expensive, but it was truly worth it. If you do not know how to cook, don't worry. The instructors are amazing and very helpful. Overall-great experience for the novice to experienced chef! We attended the Passport to Paris class w/ Head Chef: Daniel D. PROs: (1) Daniel D. and his team were professional, knowledgeable, organized, and very helpful. (2) Everything was prompt and started on time. (3) We learned various cooking techniques, but also Daniel D. explains the history behind the beauty and science of the culinary art. (4)the open cooking format allowed us to mingle with other individuals and also learn from each other's style. (5) Although the menu was robust we never felt rushed for time or technique. (6) Best of all the food prepared was absolute delicious! We will be returning again. CONs: (1) Four people share one stove top-it would be best for two at most so you can really be more hands on throughout all courses. read more

This is more of a 4.5 rating than a 4 rating. And the ONLY reason that I had to take off a .5 star & not give a 5 star rating is simply because I just wish we would have received a hard copy of the recipes we had made. My husband and I did the "Winter in Paris" themed date night cooking class. Everything was so delicious that I just wish I didn't have to try to re-create them at home from memory. Other than that reason alone, the entire experience from the chef who trained us, to the assistants, to the cleanliness & to the quality of the food was absolutely exceptional. I would most definitely do this again. My husband and I had a great night there and met an excellent couple. It was worth every single penny. Loved it. read more

My wife and wanted to do something other than "a nice dinner" for our anniversary and we found something far better at the Sur La Table cooking class. Chef Greg and his team were great and made the class a lot of fun. The food was incredible and the everyone in the class was conversing and really enjoyed being there and participating. Chef Greg was a great teacher and helped us understand the recipe and ways to alter it at home for convenience. This was a great experience and you can bring your own beverages. Was very hopeful to enjoy a cooking class with my boyfriend and was quickly disappointed. We were sharing a table with another group that included a child, which would be totally fine if they weren't involved in the process of cooking our food. We started with desert and when the ingredient came out it was for one small dessert that we "made together" and were expected to share. The kid was very excited and wanted to do the most of the cooking, as he should walking into a cooking class. But we also paid $160 to be there to cook. The final straw was the unsanitary nature of which the other group was handling the food, touching their face, and licking their hands. After about 30min we decided to head out and grab dinner elsewhere. I put no blame at all on the other group as they should have been able to enjoy their family night as we should have had the opportunity to enjoy our date night. read more

It was kinda cool but not worth the money considering there's nothing to drink other than water, and no barstools to sit on while eating your food. You can go to an upscale restaurant and spend the same amount on food drinks and actually be able to sit and eat. read more

Took a knife skills class here with a friend... We both love to cook. This class taught us nothing new and the instructors were trying to plug a brand of knives. The vegetables that all the students handled (hope they washed their hands as thoroughly as we did) were then collected and kept for the next class who were going to be learning how to cook a meal using the veggies we had just prepped! We were outraged and felt totally used! What a waste of our time and money and I really hope our fellow classmates washed their hands because the next class was going to eat those veggies or cook with them! Yuck! read more

A few months ago my husband and I took a cooking class here. I thought it would be something fun and different to do together and overall it was. My husband (who doesn't do much cooking at home) actually had a good time and received a lot of praise from the instructor. We took a vegetarian cooking class since I am a vegetarian. To my surprise several elements were NOT vegetarian! They had us using fish sauce in the first dish and chicken stock in the last dish. We made some adjustments and I had to make the last dish separate from my husband and the other couple we were paired with. I actually felt bad bringing these issues to the instructors attention and she made me feel uncomfortable when I said I don't consume these animal products..I mean, we paid for a vegetarian cooking class! There are MANY other non vegetarian classes available so I don't think it's right that this was clearly not 100% vegetarian. I was also surprised to see that the instructor was not familiar with the recipes...she kept referring to the printed recipes like she had never made the dishes before and most likely had not. Overall-would I take another class there? No....my husband and I had fun making the dishes together but, I cook regularly at home. The class did not teach me anything new or noteworthy. If anything, I learned that sur la table has no idea what it is to cook vegetarian...the class was not as advertised and for this I don't recommend them. My experience will not stop me from shopping in their store though that's for sure! If you're not a vegetarian then by all means give them a try..but if you have food preferences or restrictions save your money. read more

Stopped into the store after walking around the Mizner area. A friend of mine is getting married so she wanted to ask the staff about their wedding registry and look around the store. The ladies in the store were so friendly and even though there were only a few of them they handled the crowd very well. They were packed and for good reason. Apparently this location has monthly cooking classes and whatever food they were making inside smelled divine which I'm sure attributed to them being so busy. They have a completely separate kitchen area from the retail store and we got to watch them throw down for a bit which tempted me to RSVP for the next one. This store location is very nice and they have an array of cooking gadgets fit for any type of chef! I actually purchased a mother's day present for my mom while vising. A cookie sandwich maker! Who doesn't need one of those? I was so distracted by the food smells and overwhelmed with everything in the store I totally forgot to take photos! Unfortunately, this location is not convenient for me and I'm not sure if every Sur la Table location has the cooking class option, but I'm definitely looking up the closest location to me to see if they do! Great store! Great staff! Great products! read more

I was so looking forward to this class. They burned our pastries, some were raw, undercooked. Our class was for the French fruit pastry class, with a menu of three items. Let me start by stating the positive. Warm and friendly instructor and support staff, very clean workstations and environment. Overall, I would say that they were overly ambitious in the menu planning and tried to squeeze in too much in too little time. 2 hours? No, it should have been at least a 2.5-3 hour plus hour class, with additional time for the planned break in between. I gave it two stars for the following reasons. Firstly, there was too much going on, with not enough guidance. There was only one instructor and approx. 4 helpers that were only there to continuously wash things and take dirty things away, as well as bring needed supplies as we went. The instructor hardly went around to make sure we were doing things properly. I've taken several hands on classes before, and this is crucial. I had to ask questions because I was bold enough to speak up. The next thing I took issue with was the fact we were broken up into teams of four, sharing one burner and one food processor, and one mixer per team, which at times did not allow us to participate in the assembly/creation of an entire item. Whilst my teen daughter and I were instructed to stand idly behind a food processor of completed almond paste, the other two on our team rolled out the dough, stuffed, closed the pastry, as well as finished it off with egg wash and sugar. What were we able to contribute to that item? Cut some of the fruit and chopped some of the butter into the dough. When I asked if we could participate with the rest of the team since we standing around on the opposite side of the room and done, I was told bluntly by the instructor that we were working in a team effort and our contribution was what we had just made . Many of us were left wondering what to do next. I had to ask if I could leave my place so that I could walk over to the other side and OBSERVE the instructor rolling up the dough and placing it on the baking sheet. We should all have been instructed to surround and watch each step, whether or not it was done by us or a team member. Next, our team was given a stand mixer that wasn't calibrated properly and I noticed it wasn't touching the bottom and whipping up the egg whites (because I have one at home). I had to flag down an assistant (instructor was too busy to notice our faultym mixer - which was one of only 3) to verify my suspicion. We had to start over in a new smaller mixer and were left behind a bit. At the end of the class, thankfully our soufflé turned out lovely. The torte that I had no hand in assembling, was served with the dough undercooked. I had to request that they put it in the oven some more. The final disappointment was when 6 out of the 12 of us received our individual almond paste tarts charred and burned. We were told that they placed them on a rack that was too hot and they couldn't open the oven to remove them since the soufflés were in there as well. Shouldn't the staff and instructor have worked out the kinks by now??? I did not take away anything from that class, based on the limited hands on contribution I was able to make. Here's the best part- in an attempt to salvage my tart, I asked if I could remove the top burned layer, which I did, and then discovered that ours were raw underneath. They placed them in the oven again, but they failed to cook and were still 80% raw. I couldn't even top the pastry with fruit or glaze it to completion and it was inedible. I didn't even get a taste. Even my teen said that everything was disorganized and they were trying to accomplish too much. Only one of the three pastries was palatable. Very disappointed and honestly, I'd rather spend even more money for a more hands on and organized experience that allows team members to equally participate in assembling and creating items. For $89 per person, our team of four should have been allotted the time and guidance to create ALL of the menu items from start to finish. They should have more equipment and an instructor with at least one assigned co-instructor to go around to our stations and help guide us along. read more

We took a Christmas cookie baking class here today and it was the worst baking class I've ever taken. I cannot believe we were charged about $80 a person. We were there early but the class started at least 15 min late. About half an hour after we got in there the chef said we needed to be out soon for another class and we weren't going to have time for all of the cookies we were supposed to make (as advertised). And instead of actually baking cookies, they spent way too long advertising egglands best eggs at us. I don't want to pay $80 to be advertised to. We got through 1 of the 4 cookies, which weren't even the baked cookies, just peanut butter balls. They said we should dip them in chocolate but we don't have enough chocolate today so we'll just drizzle a little on top. The sugar cookies got baked but we didn't even get to decorate them - they just told everyone to do it at home. For the linzer cookies, they literally just gave us dough and said to look at the recipe to make them. I don't even know what a linzer cookie looks like after taking that class. And honestly I don't even remember what the fourth cookie we were supposed to make was, because we didn't even have time to talk about it. As far as baking the cookies at home, the point of the class is that there would be no cleanup for us and that the kitchen at sur la table actually has the tools we need to make the cookies. I do not. Overall this class was ridiculous and a shame because I've heard good things about sur la table. read more

Paid $80.00/per, $160 for couple. You are paired with another couple. Chef and staff were great, friendly. Prepared four appetizers, excellent. When we started to prepare entree's, they passed out 1 piece of fish four each foursome. For $80.00/head , I expected to have dinner, not a second appetizer. Was a fun experience, chef Nicole was fun, kept it interactive , answered all questions, great personality. Would have been worth every penny if we didn't have to go out to dinner after. read more

Do you like that part of baking TV shows when there are about 5 minutes left and all of the teams are rushing to have something, anything, on the plate? The Christmas cookie decorating class at Sur La Table captures that feeling perfectly. In two hours, we were supposed to create chocolate dipped peanut butter balls, fully decorated sugar cookies with premade royal icing, linzer cookies, and ginger snap melting snowman cookies. Two hours and $60 a head later, we left with peanut butter balls drizzled in chocolate, 95% bare sugar cookies, and a ball of raw dough that was supposed to be a batch of linzer cookies. I took the class and I still don't know what a linzer cookie is. Poor planning, poor time management that wasn't helped by a 15 minute late start, and not enough ingredients, tools, or equipment to go around. For the number of planned cookies and the cost, this class was at least 2 hours too short. The last half hour was spent by the head chef and other staff haphazardly shoving ingredients into paper cups and cardboard boxes with the helpful advice of "just finish it at home." Our baking show experience was complete with a 5-10 minute commercial delivered by the head chef about how great Eggland's Best eggs are. Maybe that's really the only important thing to Sur La Table corporate: that I remember the name of their advertising partners, not that I learn what the hell a linzer cookie is. If this actually were a baking show, I'd most likely get knocked out in the first round. But in this case, I don't think it would really be my fault. read more

Avoid any class at Sur La Table led by chef Nicole. She is incompetent and cannot cook properly. I have severe reservations that she could produce an adequate peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We wasted hours and $ taking her alleged Thai cooking class. The food was vile and inedible. The food stuffs used were severely sub par and in short supply for units of 4 persons per cook station. Quality control is clearly an unknown concept in her experience. read more
