Me experiencing the dip. Getting my mouth ready
    Tiffany S.

The home of the GUMBO DIP TACOS!!!! It is an experience all by itself!!! I was number 3 in line on a Thursday. There are sooo many rules but I have to admit they are friendly and keep smiles on their faces. All of the staff were working diligently. I ordered the starter kit $25.00 It includes 3 tacos and one bowl of gumbo The tacos come fresh to order. The fillings are mixed and then placed in a tortilla on the grill and cooked to perfection Then you get a bowl of seafood (shrimp), chicken and sausage with rice. The roux base of the gumbo is really tasty and favorable. I would surely recommend this place. It is great. My favorite part is dipping my taco in my gumbo. Yes I admit being from New Orleans I was reluctant but I have to admit you really been in that kitchen with BIG MOMMA

The food is indescribably delicious! Their specialty items are the gumbo tacos with gumbo. You dip the tacos in the gumbo and taste the deliciousness! I ordered the starter pack which is 3 tacos and a cup of gumbo. They have other items on the menu but was only selling tacos and gumbo Saturday. But be sure to get there early because the lines start before the place opens. I was there an hour before they opened and the line had already started. I brought a lawn chair because standing in the heat for an hour was not cutting it. They did come out and gave everyone a cold bottle of water. I thought that was a very nice gesture. Also, if you don't get there early there is no parking. You can park across the street, limited spaces or on the streets down the street. They operate out of a gas station/convenience mart so there is no place to stay, to sit down & eat. Which is an inconvenience if you live far, food does not taste the same reheated at a later time, especially tacos. But you can sit and eat in your car if you want it fresh. I would go back again and definitely recommend it to others. The food is everything.

Ordered the gumbo tacos and we weren't disappointed in the flavor and texture of the tacos. We'll seasoned and cooked perfectly. The taco's were dipped into a cup of gumbo and added a nice flavor to the taco. Extremely pleased with the meal. The owners are awesome and very generous with customers. Highly recommended

Long line but worth the wait. Friendly staff and owner . Food smells great and looks good. Just need a place to sit while eating because I don't want to wait to get home to eat

We had a 5:45PM reservation and were seated promptly. There was a ~20min wait when we left, but it goes fast. Khao Soi - really creamy, awesome different textures between the soft noodle and crispy toppings, and nice mixup with the pickled mustard greens in it. Love the coconut richness. 5/5 Pappardelle (4/5) was not as chewy on the noodle as I remember, but still excellent portions and really solid brisket. The lettuce wraps, roti, and pandebono were all still fantastic. They don't have any frozens anymore, so I got an Enter the Dragon which was strong and refreshing, nice fruity note. Traveler's will be missed and I sincerely hope the best for all the staff in finding their next chapters. Shout-out to our server Garius who was super friendly and I recognized from an event here earlier this year - he's still bringing great vibes and good service!

Happy Hour Menu Enter the Dragon - Very strong flavor profile. Not my favorite vodka drink--it came across a bit drier, almost like a gin cocktail. Still, it wasn't bad. We were really hoping to get the Good Morning Vietnam. Pandebono - Still as greasy as I remembered. I think I was definitely infatuated with the guava butter, haha. But gosh, you can't eat more than a few of these without being overwhelmed by the sheer fattiness. Goodbye, my LDL levels. Roti Canai with Curry Sauce - Still a banger. Uncle Chin's still holds the top spot for roti, but I love the Happy Hour prices for this one. I'm definitely going to miss how easy it was to come here for a small meal. Vietnamese Beef Lettuce Wraps - Eating these with your hands hits different. I wasn't the biggest fan of the lettuce wraps last time, but this visit completely changed my mind. They were honestly a great appetizer. There was a discrepancy between the amount of lettuce and beef, as usual, but we worked it out. Hehe. ------ Entrées Khao Soi (Yellow Chicken Curry) - The presentation was beautiful. The color was so exceptionally vibrant that it looked like a sunrise on my table. The flavor was rich and deep, giving me Vietnam-style curry chicken vibes. The layering was complex, with different flavor notes emerging as the dish became more infused, and the crunchy topping was phenomenal. The combination of crunchy noodles on top and soft noodles underneath was honestly ingenious. Pappardelle with Brisket Ragu - One of the most interesting things about Traveler's Cart is how effortlessly they balance different cuisines. You can go from an Asian-inspired dish to an Italian-inspired one without feeling like they miss a beat. It never feels like they're exceptional at one cuisine and merely decent at another. Instead, they're consistently good across everything they choose to tackle. I'm not a pasta fan by any means, but I tolerated this dish with far more enthusiasm than usual. It had an exceptionally appealing flavor profile. Well played, Traveler's Cart. Love their bamboo-inspired cups and serving bowls. Their plating choices are impeccable, as always. With three appetizers and two entrées, we certainly had plenty to bring home. I'll definitely miss the Happy Hour value. Shoutout to Garius for giving us a wonderful last experience. Thanks for helping make our final visit one to remember.

If you've lived in Houston long enough, you know that Montrose has its icons -- and Niko Niko's is…read moreone of the originals. Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.

When I began eating it, I immediately tasted cilantro on a portion of the chicken. I strongly dislike cilantro and am very familiar with its very distinctive taste, so I sent the dish back. The cilantro itself wasn't even what bothered me most. Mistakes and cross-contact happen in restaurant kitchens. Since I didn't taste it on every piece of chicken, I assumed some of it may simply have been accidentally garnished or come into contact with cilantro. What bothered me was how the chef/owner handled it. He came to my table and proceeded to tell me that what I was tasting wasn't cilantro. He insisted that I was either tasting the microgreens or green onion. I know what cilantro tastes like. I certainly know the difference between cilantro, green onion and microgreens. Instead of simply acknowledging that something could have happened in the kitchen, he spoke to me as though I didn't understand what I was tasting. Eventually, I just agreed with him because I wanted the conversation to end and wanted him away from my table. I wasn't agreeing because I suddenly believed I had mistaken green onion or microgreens for cilantro. I simply had no interest in continuing to argue with the chef/owner over what I had personally tasted in my own food. I have no interest in engaging with a man who acts like that and wants to argue. A much more professional response would have been, "I'm sorry about that. We'll replace it." That would have been the end of the matter. Instead, a minor and completely understandable kitchen mistake became an uncomfortable interaction because of the way it was handled. Food mistakes happen. I don't expect perfection. But I do expect to be treated respectfully rather than patronized and argued with over something as simple as cilantro. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled is what left the lasting impression.Definitely not coming back. This was my third and final visit here.

He came in such a cute little dainty glass. For starters, we had the yellowtail crudo, Caesar salad and a kaluga caviar sandwich since it was national caviar day. The yellowtail Crudo was so fresh and absolutely delicious. Caesar salad was fantastic, but caught me off guard at first because there are actual anchovies on the salad. But they tasted good. Caviar sandwich was egg salad in between milk bread slices. Very nice. For entrées, we ordered the prime fillet of beef and striped bass. Prime fillet was very nicely cooked, light crust, and a beautiful sauce. The striped bass was nice. I really enjoyed the orange slices and the pickled fennel that was garnished on top. Really made it a little bit more interesting. To round out the night for dessert we ordered the Banofeee and the pistachio frangipane tart. The Banofeee was good, but not overly banana. The pistachio tart was delicious and I absolutely loved the basil ice cream. Overall fantastic dinner experience! The service, the ambience and the food made for a lovely night out.
