We were looking to try Gold Tooth Tony's and I guess they partnered with Rudyard's to serve it at their bar? Fairly confusing at first when we were looking for where to go. Anyways, this is a dive bar located on Waugh next to Al's Quick Stop. Parking was available in a small lot across the street. The bar itself was definitely fairly dated; you ordered at the bar and staff brought food to you. They had a bar menu and a pizza menu; we got a steak finger basket and two Detroit style pizzas. The steak fingers were alright... not much meat, a lot of breading. The waffle fries were crispy. The gravy wasn't great, super buttery. The Detroit style pizzas were alright. The crust was nice and thick; but there were either too little or too much toppings. When there were too much toppings, the crust got soggy from the juice. I came here to check out the comedy club upstairs and had a great time overall. The service was friendly and attentive. The menu was a bit limited but had a few options. I ordered the pizza and was pleasantly surprised, it was actually pretty good. Drinks were moderately priced, which is always a win. I'm definitely planning to come back and explore the downstairs bar, it has that gritty dive bar vibe that could be fun, especially with the extra space if things upstairs get crowded. However, I went for the first time at night and had a completely different experience. I walked up to the bar and there were no other customers wanting to be serviced. The lady bartender still did not come my way. I waited. Two minutes later, three gentlemen walked up to the bar and immediately they were serviced. I had to get the bartender's attention just so I can give them my name for my order. I'm highly compelled to believe that if I was of another race or gender there would not have been a problem. Today I ordered their Gay-Fil-A because I love a good chicken sandwich and I love supporting businesses that support the lgbtq community in some way. When I tell you I was stunned at what when in the box omfg. Not only did I receive a partially incorrect order but my sandwich was not even WARM, it was BURNT, the bread was SOGGY, and it looked like somebody SAT ON IT. It looked so gross that I didn't even take a bite and lost my appetite. To claim to make a sandwich that competes with Chick-Fil-A without the "homophobia" and then to send out something that disgusting to a customer trying to support your business is just down right disrespectful. We went to Rudyard's a few weeks back because of the Game of Thrones watch party advertised online. It's a super chill vibe and quite possibly the best little pub I've been to in Houston. Not a fancy place, but I can promise you won't be disappointed by the food. Food and drink orders are taken at the bar; servers will bring your food to the table once it's ready. It was lunchtime. I walked in and sat down at a table. Picked up a menu and started looking at it. There was a waitress walking around and a bartender behind the bar. Only one other person in the entire place and she was on her phone. I sat there for 16 minutes and nobody acknowledged me or even said hello so I left. I feel bad for even writing this because the food was truly great and they have extremely reasonable prices...yet I cannot make any reason to want to tip these people or spend a dime here if they just want to throw your drinks and food at you amidst barking and the personal insults I witnessed and heard the bartenders muttering about people that seemed to be paying their bills. It's what I would call a laid back, small, chill neighborhood bar, a real contrast to the ever growing crowded Montrose cocktail bars nearby. With the more recent change of a new chef, menu, and drinks, Rudyards is better than ever. With signature cocktails, beers on tap, cozy patio, games, and nightly events, a lot of friendly people gather here. Monday night's stand up comedy night is always a good time. Another weekend, another birthday celebration! Rudz was a great spot for today's casual activities. We were able to have a corner of the pub for our rather large group. There was a corner where I shamelessly failed at darts and the artwork was quirky and fun to look at. The thin crust pizza was a warm and yummy treat. My friends enjoy their pepperoni pie as well! I recommend you try their Espolon Mango Margarita- the tajin rim added a perfect balance to the sweetness of the mango, with just the right amount of alcohol. The rotating beer selection is great. The food is pretty uniformly outstanding. The regular crowd is terrific. Sometimes, like my last visit a week ago, some of the folks who pass through on the way to the comedy club upset the harmony I typically experience. In this case it was what appeared to be 3 (or at least 2.5) generations of a redneck family who insisted they be admitted to a bar without any ID of any kind. Pappy, who was the spitting image of Uncle Baby Billy from the Gemstones, wore a bright blue blazer over wranglers, and had a ghost white pompadour haircut that in hindsight must've been a hairpiece. He was extremely upset that policy and state agency law were not going to be overlooked by the doorman, and decided that peppering the man with racial slurs was the best shot he had at getting his way. When they were finally convinced they couldn't get in with Uncle Baby Billy's sugar talk, they all angrily shuffled back towards their monster truck to return to Mayberry. When they reached the corner and I suppose felt far enough to avoid a physical confrontation, Uncle Baby Billy shouted "Go [copulate with] yourself, you [copulating][hispanic man]". I don't think there is any place for this type of bologna in public in this day and age. Your kids should be ashamed of you Uncle Baby Billy, and if they aren't, then my suspicion about how poorly you must've raised them is hereby confirmed. First time here and I am IMPRESSED. Bar food really shouldn't mean shitty food and they proved that. We were attracted to this place because 1) they do allow dogs and 2) they had some interesting food choices and we were not disappointed. The patty melt was everything you'd wish in one. Our one complaint was that the bread could have been toasted a bit more. However once you take that first bite you don't even think about it because it still had a crispy but soft taste. The tater tots? Probably some of the best around (which goes with their curly fries also). The chicken sandwich has to be the 2nd best one I've had. The first? A place in Arkansas so I'm not able to get it very often. However the sandwich came with TWO chicken patties that were crispy and cooked amazingly. They put a carrot 'slaw' on it almost which was an interesting twist also. The server was very helpful and did an awesome job checking on us since we were the only two people outside. The patio is kind of small and they don't really have many 'tables' out there but don't let that detour you if you want to try their food with your pup. They had fantastic beer selections and a variety of them. Went to this restaurant one weekend. Got there right when it opened on Saturday. No one was in the restaurant so we had the entire place to ourselves. I saw on the menu that there was spaghetti grilled cheese. I was super interested in trying it out because I had never thought of a combination like that. It sounds questionable but also delicious! The first couple of bites weren't bad but as I kept eating it, I wasn't a fan. It has a strange after taste to it that I didn't like. The tater tots were good though!
