We've had them for a…read morefew weeks now and still every time I pass through them, I applaud myself for having found FCR Fence & Deck and having had the wisdom to move forward with their company. From beginning to end the experience was great. I'd reached out to multiple companies, planning to take numerous bids, but amazingly found that few were unresponsive. FCR on the other hand was quick to respond to my inquiry on their website Contact page and were quick to set up the estimate appointment. The downside was I needed to wait two weeks. In the meantime I met the Project Manager from another company and was pleased with the experience, except that I never received a bid even though we texted several times. Rob Quinlan from FCR was similarly on time, but his amiability, professionalism, and communication, both in person and in subsequent texts, set him apart. He has excellent follow through, too, as our gates attest! He also really knows the ins and out of gates. When I said I wanted ours to be pushed open from the street side, Rob asked if we had a pool. It turns out that if one has a swimming pool, the gate legally has to swing out to the street. Rob explained that pulling a heavy gate is harder for little kids than pushing it, making it less likely they can access a backyard and drown! I was so impressed with Rob that I told him then and there that I wanted to move ahead with FCR. I received the quote and a contract later that day. It showed the options for the two different types of Redwood. Rob had explained that the photos one sees of beautiful fences are always made of the more expensive wood, from the heart of the tree. I had said that was the one I wanted, but it was still great to see options and prices laid out. I was able to sign the contract electronically. It was another two weeks before the actual installation, but the day of the work was fast and smooth. The crew and Rob arrived separately and on time. We all discussed every detail afresh, this time with Hector and Paco weighing in with their own expertise. There was some discussion among the men as to how and where to install the posts for the new double gate so that it would stay strong for the long term. I was consulted as well and made it clear that longevity and easy operation were paramount to me. I also mentioned that I was nervous about the possibility of there being a pipe to the house in that area, one that was private and therefore not marked by the utility companies. (Rob had done his company's legal duty of arranging the 8-1-1 Dig Ticket ahead of the work day). Rob took me seriously and walked out to the sidewalk, saw that there was indeed a drainage outlet there and told Hector to dig slowly and attentively. Rob left for the day and Hector and Paco got to work. Hector did find the water pipe about 12" down, right where the post was supposed to go. He had me come out and see the situation. He gave me two options: place the post over the pipe, in which case it would lack endurance for the long term, or go two feet down in the hole he had already dug closer to the house. I opted for the deep hole and the reliable fence. I was glad to have been consulted. I was grateful for Hector's having found the pipe without damaging it. Both gates and the small fence surrounding them were completed between 8am and 3pm. The areas were all cleaned up. Hector had me come out and assess the work. The gates have easy and sturdy hardware on them. They open and close with ease, swinging into the backyard as specified. They're attractive, substantial, and show every sign of enduring. I knew from the good communication that I could simply hand the check to Hector. Rob was going to come by to make sure I was happy but I said I was exceedingly pleased and insisted he didn't need to. He followed up with a text nevertheless to double check and I gave him a glowing, detailed review. Later that day I received an invoice showing I had paid. I couldn't be any happier than to have trusted this work to FCR Fence & Deck.

We get strong winds that can blow a weave or a wig off a person's head, and it is hotter then hot in the summers reaching past 100 degrees, and when it rains, its nice to smell the rain and see it coming down. Now it is July 2026, and the fencing is 26 years and 2 months old. You can't tell me (as I will attach photos, that this fencing didn't need to be done.....because it did. We had gotten a bid from a neighbor who lived down and around the corner from us, as his father owns a fencing company. We had asked him and his gf to provide us a quote a LONG while back and that quote was pratically another TRUCK payment and then some. So we held off. Then one windy day, on 12/14/2024, the wind blew our fence over and the shared property line fence over. The tenant living next door in the little shack named Pablo, came to help us put the fencing back up. He even knew and said it was just a temporary fix until the next wind came. Since then the fence has fallen over 3 more times to 2026. Then on yet another windy day, my tarp flew over the fence into my neighbor's backyard - but this neighbor's home lives in Steven S. Stroud, and so my husband and I walked over to that neighbor's house to see about getting my tarp back from her backyard. We knocked and no one was home. So we left her a note introducing ourselves and when she got come from she messaged us and we went over to go grab it. She had my husband get the tarp because her backyard slants up and she wasn't about to climb the steep hill. So while standing there and Johnny's retrieving the tarp, I had asked her did she use to do her fencing. She too, told me about the neighbor who's dad owns the fencing company, and she also said that when she asked him for a quote, his quote he gave her was INSANE! So with some research, she then found A&J Fencing. This is where I called them and asked for a quote. Scott Knolbloch came and gave me a quote. Because I share property line with two other neighbors, he informed me about the 30-Day Good Neighbor Law. Later that night, I got the quote from Scott regarding the fencing that was much needed which was 26 years old, falling over 4 times, due to rotted and deteriorating wood, with nails, screws and staples protruding through onto my side from the neighbors side where they tried to repair the fencing themselves. The quote was sooooo reasonable, I had to relook at it twice!! Nutshell, we ended up proceeding with the quote provided from Scott with A&J Fencing. We were able to get both neighbors onboard with paying their half of the fencing after provided and sending out Certified 30-Day Good Neighbor Law Letter. We are soooo pleased with the work. Rigo and his crew showed up at 8am on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Knocked on my door and I gave the OK to begin. They immediately started unloading the needed and necessary tools, and man o man.....they made taking down the fence soooo easy!!! Next came the digging and before I knew it -- the posts were being put up.....followed by the redwood wood panels. The fencing was done in 5 hours! (They took a lunch break too!). Overall..... A HUGE SHOUT OUT for coming to my property and providing me an AMAZING AND REASONABLE QUOTE...... A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Rigo and his crew for tearing down and putting up my fencing, my double iron gate and my single gate. Yall ROCK!! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Vanessa who I wrote my check too. She was soooo professional and sweet! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Andrea, to hearing me rant about other stuff (she knows ;) ) and helping me with keeping me aboard on all neighbors following though with their halves of payment! Scott came out quickly to understand the project and our needs and provided us with a competitive quote. Our project was a hogwire fence around the parameter of our front yard, which included a gate that bridge the gap between the new fence and the side of our house. He quoted me the same day he came out, and once the quote was signed, he had his team out here within a week. The workers were prompt, professional, friendly, and worked fast. They finished in half a day and cleaned up afterwards, which was nice. The final result was fantastic, much better than I imagined, and all of our neighbors came out to compliment us on the fence. Working with A&J was fast, easy and painless (which is hard to come by with construction). Highly recommend!

They did a great job and we are very happy with the new deck. I was on a tight time schedule to get the new concrete patio and walkway, and then the deck, done before hosting a celebration of life for my best friend. Gary explained the challenges associated with such a tight schedule (so much so I had to ask if he was trying to talk himself out of a job) which I understood. However, he made an effort to include some weekend/OT work ahead of time to make it happen, and for that he is well respected. It has been a year and the product is holding up well and looks great. In hindsight I would have rather gone with darker, medium brown rather than the light color because of muddy dog prints, but it is still awesome. Gary insisted they will be available and responsive if I have any issues or small repairs going forward. This was a primary factor in hiring G&G so I will update the review when that time comes. I highly recommend G&G Decking and would work with them again.

We live in the Berkeley Hills it was also time to install an alternative to wood (for fire safety). After doing some research, including a neighbor's recommendation, we found Duce. They did a great job for us. Susan was professional throughout the process, from planning to installation. And she or Kayla returned our calls in a timely fashion. The crew was hard working and they worked quickly. They left the site very neat. They were done in 3 days. At the time they did the job Duce used Knotwood aluminum fencing. Knotwood offers a wide range of colors to choose from. And compared to the company our neighbors used, it shipped the material much more quickly. We wanted the fence to look like the fence we were replacing and we couldn't be happier. Showing how Susan takes care of her customers, we requested a small change. She took care of this without any additional charges. As far as cost goes, metal fencing can cost a lot more than wood. From talking to other neighbors who installed metal fences, I'd say Susan offers competitive pricing. One more positive about aluminum fencing is it's going to last a long time.

The newer Highlander had scratches and artwork from sidewalk chalk all over with significant damage. The car came back looking shiny and bright with no signs of the vandalism it had endured. 10/10. The second car was an old black sedan and while I didn't have much hope for it, Mike managed to get the chalk scratches out from that one as well. He also cleaned the headlights (which was a nice bonus and not part of the job). He was very professional throughout the process and gave me a good price for both the cars. We visited Dolan's at both the Walnut Creek and Concord locations on two separate occasions while…read moreshopping for doors and windows. In both instances, there were multiple employees working at the front desk area on their computers. While they may have been busy, no one acknowledged or greeted us when we walked in. Even a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" would have gone a long way. My wife spent about 10 minutes browsing the showroom during one visit and we still were not approached. We ultimately left both times without speaking to anyone. We understand that some showrooms operate by appointment, and if that is the standard protocol, that is perfectly fine. However, a quick greeting, asking whether we had an appointment, or offering to schedule one would have created a very different experience. We did not have this issue at Golden State Lumber or Ashby Lumber, where we were promptly acknowledged and assisted. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we will be moving forward elsewhere.

My parents live in Walnut Creek and when they needed their deck replaced they asked if I could help them find a good contractor. I asked some friends in the area and they recommended Superior Decks. I handle much of my parents needs and I have to say working with Lisa Rumpf was a pleasure. She knew I was concerned about my parents and making sure they were not overcharged and their safety and privacy were considered. Lisa called almost every day with an update and sent photos. We are so happy with our "new" deck after Superior Decks power-washed it, sanded it, and then stained it. Lisa worked with us to make sure we picked the perfect color of stain, for us. She brought some samples, then when we had some questions, she brought more samples, and we are very happy with the stain color we chose. I paid for a 4 foot high veranda with glass in May, extra high so the dog doesn't try to jump it. It is January next week and STILL the veranda isn't done, yet behind me, where the caravans haven't even been sold yet they are having their glass fitted as I write this. I am absolutely furious at this point with being fobbed off. I want a refund so I can go elsewhere and get the job done. I will never recommend this company again! read more

Within the week, he and his team came, demolished and hauled away the old deck boards, placed a temporary path, and started puting down underlayment. Next came the new deck boards. Rolando suggested an improved layout which actually made the deck look better. He even accommodated my unusual request to place a planting hole in the deck. We discovered he also does tile work and because the deck project went so well, we had Rolando and his team tile our half bath and the master bath. Came out beautiful! All within budget.

The quoted price was 30% more (well outpacing inflation...but I know construction costs in the bay area have been doing that). Did I overpay? I'll never know for sure. My bad for that one. The communication could have been better. This time just like last, Al came out and did the estimate and told me what work would be done. That was practically the last time I saw him. A different guy showed up on the scheduled day and started moving furniture. Some of it is heavy and he was dragging it. I didn't want any wood damage or lawn damage so I helped him. It was just him and me, moving all the furniture. Luckily I didn't have physical issues preventing that, but if you do...you might want to make other arrangements. I'm sure Al could have sent a second helper if I had asked. Second, their worker was nice enough and very diligent, but there was a severe language barrier. We only understood a few words from each other, and misunderstandings were common. That prevented us from clarifying several things like the furniture moving, timing of the second coat, and most importantly, color choice. He seemed to not have any info from Al about the job, and didn't know what color to apply. I told him to keep the same color, but he suggested a different one than we used last time. So now our deck is a darker shade than I wanted. He also said clear coat would be better; but couldn't tell me why and only suggested it after alerady starting on the...inferior...semi-transparent color he chose for me! Not horrible, not a deal breaker, but not 5 star yelp review service and communication!

I originally reached out because I needed repairs to my composite stairs and railing, which was oddly bent out of shape. Of all the contractors that came out, Jarrad of Sliwinski Decks really stood out. Jarrad came out for a detailed estimate and spent nearly an hour inspecting everything, explaining what he was seeing, and walking me through the possible causes, going over material recommendations and took my budget into account. What I thought to be wear and tear, Jarrad's sharp eye discovered the damage to my staircase was caused by an adjacent sidewalk that had buckled and was pushing into the railing, which caused the entire staircase structure to fail. Jarrad was honest, upfront, and super easy to work with. He walked me through the process, worked with my timeline, and gave clear recommendations on what needed to be done -- especially helpful since I have an HOA to deal. He also set the expectation in advance that more damage could be hiding underneath but wouldn't know until the stairs were demolished. I was appreciative of that, full transparency, no upselling - just having realistic expectations. The project was completed by Mike who handled everything by himself, and he was fantastic. Even though the project was relatively small, he treated it with the same care and professionalism you'd expect on a big job. He's extremely detail‑oriented, very knowledgeable, and also trained as arborist -- which came in handy given the root issues. When he opened up the stairs and found dry rot in the stringers, he explained everything clearly and ordered materials right away to finish the job. It added a couple of extra days, but he never rushed or cut corners. The end result looks amazing. The finish and color choices turned out great, and even neighbors walking by commented on the craftsmanship and how good the new staircase looked! Pricing: I received estimates from four other companies, and Jarrad's pricing was the most fair and reasonable by far - and very straightforward, no add-ons or price markups on supplies as I paid the vendors directly using his volume-discounts. They also recommended a fantastic painter who finished the siding details. I'd absolutely hire Sliwinski Deck again and highly recommend them to anyone who wants work done right.

He seemed eager for the work and I felt really good about him and his capabilitiies. I let him know I wasn't in a rush as I had some planned travel but would like to get something locked in in a few weeks with goal of having them do the work after my return. I received a bid from him on February 6th with a suggestion that I contact him with any questions. The next day I emailed him with a few qeustions, specifically asking about some items we'd discussed that weren't in his proposal. I left a few voicemails between then and February 18th. On February 19th, I emailed him again asking for clarification on one of the items we'd discussed and asking for a more detailed bid for some additional work (more work for him). I returned from being out of the country for 2 weeks and still no response to either voicemails or emails. This week, 3.11 I left another voicemail asking him to please respond and suggesting that if he's no longer interested in the work that he please let me know so I can make alternative arrangements. Yesterday 3.13 I send a follow up email. Still nothing. I get that many contractors while very good at what they do, may not be as good at managing the "business" side of things but honestly this is ridiculous. I am left to assume he's not interested in either my project or preserving a good reputation. Very disappointing!!
