I reached out to Superior Decks to get an estimate for deck restoration as my two decks were in definite need of some TLC but not totally irreparable. I had four companies come out total and Lisa from Superior Decks was one of the two who would take on the job of restoration as the other two just said I needed brand new decks (not true)! Lisa knew the decks were structurally sound and that she could successfully and safely restore them. She did not try and force me to replace the decks when it was not necessary. There's a reason for this company getting five stars reviews. Their work on the deck itself is craftmanship quality. The IPE wood decking is beautiful! They are not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. My only disappointment was that the redwood was not clear heart wood. One of the posts used for the railing had loose knots. When I told Eric it was ugly, he got another 8' piece of 4x4 post and the worker was able to cut an acceptable post out of that long piece of lumber. I am happy with the deck and the workmanship that went into it. read more

That's a great start - a contractor that calls you back promptly even in this busy time where everyone is doing home improvements during Covid. Needless to say I was impressed. Eric respected my vision, but offered expert advise based on his vast knowledge of Ipe which were fantastic recommendations (and not upsales). The crew did incredible work, and it is evident that they are both gifted craftsmen and they take great pride in their work. We contacted Superior Decks for a full resurfacing of our redwood deck and railing elements after several years of no maintenance. Response back on Yelp was very quick. Lisa scheduled a visit, and we received an estimate about a week later. We were lucky that their calendar opened up shortly after and the work was able to begin rapidly. We received excellent advice on what to do, and about the choice of stain. The three-man team worked 8-4 most days with very good efficiency to pressure wash, sand and stain all the surfaces, with Lisa dropping in regularly. Lisa and her crew are stellar to work with. They were recommended to me by Ashby Lumber in Berkeley, as she builds their demonstration decks and also buys most of her lumber there. She's been working with members of her crew for many years and they know exactly what to do. My new deck, made out of a certified sustainable tropical hardwood called Batu, had been built by a different contractor (who had also done a great job). However, the stain failed almost immediately on this dense wood. Ashby Lumber recommended that I contact Lisa and her business to repair the damage and re-stain it, and they came over within a week. They gently hand-sanded the whole large deck and mixed a custom color of oil stain to bring out the beauty of the wood. They worked rather quickly, precisely, and thoroughly. I've already scheduled them to come back in two years to restain it. I will have them come back in five years to sand and restain it after that.
