Rebuilt steps and porch with handrail.
    Sharrell W.

Side porch tear down and rebuild with additional handrail. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I contacted Samuel of Deck Savers. Samuel was prompt for the estimate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] During the estimate Samuel offered suggestions on how to better secure the new porch and the materials that he was going to use. Samuel explained that the tear down and rebuild would take 2 days. I must add that that was the exact timeline. Samuel does need to comeback to sand and stain the wood. Due to the upcoming rains we postponed the staining. I highly recommend Samuel at Deck Savers.

    the work after completion

They re-stained my deck just 3 month ago, so I hired them for a much larger job: repairing the siding on the back of my house and painting it. Sam estimated it would take 3 weeks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like collaboration so Sam was the perfect choice of contractor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For example: I learned that siding comes in many woods. The cheapest even has knots, which are the roots of the branch, and eventually fall out, leaving a hole in the wood. A level above is knotless wood, from the inner part of the tree. One of the best is redwood, though today most redwood is not old growth so the wood is not as dense. My home had old redwood, from over 100 years ago, much of it still in good condition. I went with new redwood, though it was expensive. I also added flashings to the project: these are small, typically metal strips that fit above a window and divert the rain to flow down rather than accumulate at the top of the window frame. This extends the life of the wood. Sam and his crew sanded off the old paint, replaced rotten wood with new redwood siding, primed, painted, caulked, added the flashings, tested that all windows and doors operated smoothly, hauled away the debris, cleaned and re-stained the deck, and finally cleaned and returned the yard to its pristine state. The house looks great, was completed on time, and within the budget, so it was very good value. Sam and his crew were highly professional, reliable, and conscientious. I will definitely use them in the future.

Sam and his team did an amazing job on our ipe wood deck, composite deck, gate/fences and also built a brand-new pergola.

Ignacio, who came for the site visit and identified himself as the owner, was very easy to communicate with both in person and over the phone. However, Jackie, (not clear to me if she's the co-owner or Ignacio's wife) finalizes pricing and pretty much runs the show. For our project, we had picked IVS to do the work, but the price kept increasing by thousands of dollars. I asked to speak with Ignacio since these changes were inconsistent with what I discussed with him and put them week above our other quotes, but Jackie said that's not necessary since she decides the pricing. They also charge tax on materials, which no other fencers do (since they're already paying tax to Home Depot, etc.). These business practices felt disingenuous to me and like bait and switch. I've had issues in the past with businesses like this that once the work begins they'll change order you again and ask for more money. So we did not use them. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range and IVS was around $12K. All were licensed and bonded. We went with the lowest quote and are extremely happy with our fence.
