Update after the company's response:…read more For transparency, I am adding screenshots from the signed contract and project email correspondence. The contract (Quote #3975 - $150,000) clearly includes upgrading the main residential electrical service to 200 AMP and installing the awning above the ADU access door as part of the project scope. These items were presented in the company's response as if they were additional work, but they appear explicitly in the signed contract. I have also included an email dated Aug 20 from the project manager confirming the project was "on track for completion in 3-4 months." The project ultimately took around 6 months to complete. Additionally, the electrical work referenced in their response included an EV circuit, which is typically required for new construction and ADU projects under the 2022 California Electrical Code. This is a standard code requirement rather than a discretionary upgrade. These screenshots provide context for my experience during the project. Throughout the build I frequently had to verify measurements, coordinate ordering timelines, and raise planning questions that would normally fall under project management. The on-site crew worked hard and treated the property respectfully, and I appreciate their effort. My review reflects the overall experience managing this project as a homeowner and is shared to provide transparency for others considering a similar project.

What started as a contractor-client relationship turned into a friendship throughout the process. Dan has a great personality, is easy to work with, and is always willing to find a solution that works for everyone. We are 100% satisfied with his work and would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a skilled, trustworthy, and dependable contractor. I contacted Natan from Northwest Builders and Renovations in Walnut Creek to get a bid on a kitchen…read moreremodel project. I chose his company over the other one that bid the project because Natan gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing, especially for the part of the project that involved a load bearing wall. He is a hell of a salesman. He agreed that they could provide everything the other company had bid but this was not the case. When we met for the bid, Natan assured me that my kitchen remodel project would take two weeks and that the cost was firm. He told me I could have any cabinet finish and quartz I wanted. I even showed him a sample of what I wanted the cabinets to look like and he agreed. Once it was time to order the cabinets it turned out I only actually had a choice of 7 cabinet finishes and none of them were like what I had showed him. For context, both the other contractor I talked to and Home Depot had samples of the finish I wanted so it wasn't like I had chosen something outlandish. Timeline: They demolished my kitchen on May 11th and work was finally completed 6 weeks later. I would not have proceeded if I had known it would take that long. My kitchen, laundry, living room and garage were unusable the entire time. There were also boxes and other debris all over my deck as well as my dishwasher sitting out on the deck uncovered. I got up in the middle of the night when it rained to cover it. There were many days when no one showed up and one time when no one showed up for 9 days straight. I begged him to keep the project going but he told me they couldn't because the countertop was taking so long to cut. That turned out not to be true. At the end of the 9 days the quartz cutter came to measure the counters and told me they had only just received the quartz and would not start cutting it for 2 days. Besides, there was plenty of other work like putting on the cabinet doors and finishing the laundry area that they could have been doing while waiting for the countertops. That is when I stopped trusting what I was being told. Cost: I agreed to pay an additional $2000 for an additional slab of quartz because I didn't like the plain grey countertops they wanted to use. It ended up to be more than was needed for my project so Natan suggested that I pay an additional $2000 to install the quartz all of the way up to the bottom of the cabinets instead of a 4" backsplash. I declined. He did it anyway and did not charge me. I had to pay an additional $4200 to replace the kitchen floor. When he quoted the project we agreed it did not need to be replaced because I had just replaced it 3 years earlier. It got hacked up when the bottom cabinets were installed and a patch job would have looked awful so it needed to be replaced. Communication: Communication was really poor. I had no idea what was going on or when anyone was actually going to show up to work on the project. No one told me they were proceeding with the white cabinets and grey countertops until I asked when I could pick the cabinet finish and quartz. They encountered a problem when opening up a wall but didn't discuss it with me until I asked 5 weeks later and it turned out that they couldn't do what we had agreed. Project Management: Natan said that either he or his project manager would be onsite every day to supervise the work and ensure it was done correctly. Neither one of them was ever there when the workers were so I basically had to make sure things were getting done. Natan kept asking what was left to be done. Had they come, I believe many of the issues could have been avoided. His crew clearly needed guidance. Natan had promised that his team would be on site to receive delivery of the cabinets on 5/14/2026. They were not. I was unable to be there so had to have a neighbor come and receive the delivery. Good thing I have Google Translate because that's what I needed to talk to his workers. Quality: The main issue was everything being installed backwards. My washer dryer hookups were installed backwards. The HVAC control was installed backwards and I had to pay an HVAC tech to come fix it. My dishwasher was hooked up backwards and spewed into my sink when it emptied but Natan refused to have someone come fix it so I had to pay a plumber to come fix it. Garbage disposal was also incorrectly installed. The kitchen was painted a different color and you can see the old color half way down beside the refrigerator and beside the dishwasher. The baseboards were just hacked off at the end rather than being joined at an angle and exposed the raw wood and some are flat and others molded so look like scraps were used. There's more but you get the idea. In the end, my kitchen is beautiful and if they worked the way they did the final week when they wanted me to sign off on the project and pay them it actually could have been done in the 2 weeks that he promised.

They provided an address that could not be used for check delivery, delaying payment. Despite my repeated explanations and updates, the vendor threatened to remove the motor. The manager I contacted was rude and offered no meaningful help. We paid for a warranty, yet our garage has been left open for months, creating a serious security concern. Their threats made me worry about possible interference with the equipment, although I cannot confirm that occurred. The poor communication, unexpected expense, threats, and unresolved problems made this company extremely difficult to work with. In my experience, collecting money took priority over customer service.

What we *didn't* realize until actively living there was just how noisy this roof was. When heating up or cooling down at the start/end of the day, there would be literal SLAMS coming from somewhere in the roof. We talked with over a dozen professionals about this problem, and no one knew what it was, and each had their own theory. We felt most confident with Itay due to the thoughtful way he approached the problem, and also the fact that he had a general contractor license, which was something we did not want to have to coordinate between two parties, given the obvious structural component of the job. Itay's team finished up in about a week, and the result looks excellent. Since then, we've had zero slams at all, and the loud creaking is reduced by about 80% (and that comes from the existing interior tongue-and-groove configuration, which there was no way to address with this job). Could not be happier with the result, and the $38k we paid was more than worth it.

ProModeling earned our business through their strong reputation and high ratings -- but what truly won us over was the trust we built through personal, intelligent interactions with their team: project manager Alexandra Asaftei, designer Andrea Estalayo, and construction foreman Christian Mendoza. Anyone who has worked with contractors knows the anxiety of wondering whether things will be done right and on time. From our very first conversations, that anxiety was gone. Alexandra was friendly, organized, and thorough in explaining their entire process. Andrea used visualization technology to help us explore different textures, colors, and finishes, making it easy to imagine what our small space could become. Once we felt confident in the design, we gave the green light -- and the project moved forward without a hitch. From demolition to completion, the team was skilled, efficient, and professional. Christian went above and beyond to ensure everything met our satisfaction, and his attention to detail helped the project sail smoothly through the permitting process. Every aspect of the remodel -- electrical, plumbing, waterproofing, and tiling -- was handled expertly and on schedule. We couldn't be happier with the result or the experience.
