The power of Yelp. After my regular hair specialist at a competing chain left unannounced, I decided to check Yelp for somewhere near the loop. I found this location in River North, a little further than I wanted but I didn't mind for the right experience. Well, thanks to Yelp, I found out about Ana. She is first and foremost a consummate professional. She's great at her job, at communicating, at giving suggestions, about remembering her customers and their nuances, and in addition to that she's just a kind and caring person. Full disclaimer, Ana has transferred to the loop location at the Thompson center, but this location is still very nice and in fact one of her own family members is still here. I had been wandering through different barbershops/hair salons to get my haircut in the downtown area. I finally found one to consistently go to. I saw the reviews and it sounded great. I saw Armando's name a lot, so I booked a time with him and I've been going for probably, close to a year now, every 2 weeks on the dot. There's been a couple times when he wasn't available on the days I went, so I would book next available stylist. 3 different stylists and they all did a great job as well. That's rare on my previous experiences. It's a good atmosphere, good people, super haircuts, I definitely recommend it. read more

I would have given this place five stars just for the haircut and the stylist. Anna, her name, was fantastic. She really listened to what I wanted and pretty much nailed it 99% on the head. That's a first for a new stylist. I know you are begging to know why the three stars. The receptionist is a BITCH. She HATES her job and it shows. This is a Supercuts. This is one of many Supercuts across the country. No, they do not have barbers trained in France or... whatever other country has fancy barbers. This is a cheap place to get a cheap haircut. No, a haircut here is not gonna get you laid, and there may be a 10% chance it's gonna be bad and might lose you a lay. But this place is cheap, especially considering the area, and you came here knowing that. So, with the money you saved here, if you're of that unlucky 10%, you can take that money you saved and buy yourself a hat. I have had my hair cut here twice, and I haven't had too many problems. No, neither times I received impressive cuts by any means, but they were decent and I don't think I lost any lays because of them. read more

I generally don't mind chain places for getting my hair cut, but I made a mistake this time. The hair cut ended up being okay, but the service was just awful! Now, I understand things might be a bit lax on a Friday evening, but when I'm told that there is a 20 minute wait and end up waiting over an hour I get a little irked. Especially when 3 of the hair stylists are milling around the front desk gossiping in-between cuts at any given time. Even more so when they start to fight over who has to take me as their next customer (mind you I'm sitting about 6 feet away). After I finally get in the chair, I couldn't tell her what size clipper attachment they used on my hair last. Frankly, it'd been well over a month, and I just couldn't remember. Shortly afterwards I get a lecture about why I should remember my attachment size and get my hair cut more regularly. Thanks. I'm sure there are some great stylists that work here, but my experience tonight just about guaranteed that I won't be coming back to find out. On the way back, all I could think about was that I've gotten better customer service from the CTA. The cut's probably not worth your $15.95. Definitely wasn't worth mine. read more

Haters gonna hate, I guess. It's a Supercuts, there are some good "stylists" there and assuming you are coming in for a normal/basic cut, you will leave pleased. If you are Lady Gaga and want your hair shaped like a saxophone or something, your best bet is probably to go elsewhere. Sandra cuts my hair (occasionally Manuel - I think that's his name, he's the only guy there) and I've never been disappointed. I was seen by Veronica and she lives up to all her positive reviews! She took time to get a good understanding of what I wanted and I am very pleased with the results. I will definitely return and highly recommend the salon to both males and females. The salon is clean, staff and customers wear masks and stations are sanitized between clients. read more

The worst haircut EVER. Avoid at all costs. Have used this place because it is close to mhome. The last cut the worst. They do not speak fluent English. So they cut as they want. Never again will I fall for the close and cheap. No one in the area goes here leaves a good review, they depend on tourists, or anyone only needing a nimber 2 shave. read more

I've always shied away from chain stores when it comes to getting a haircut, but lately I've been way too busy to make the "trek" out to the Aveda Institute for my monthly haircut, so I decided to give my neighborhood Supercuts a try. Wow, pleasantly surprised. My stylist was nice, deferent, and gave me tips on how to put product in my hair to keep it from feeling heavy. The haircut was fast, too, but that may just be because I'm used to student stylists taking 2 hours to cut a dude's hair. The whole time, I felt like my stylist (I wish I'd remembered her name) was one of those wise sagely types to whom you'd go for advice on anything. Yeah. She was that fun to talk to. You can't beat the $15.95 price ($3 more if you want a wash) and the location (I ended up grabbing lunch from Whole Foods across the street), but I'll be going back for the service and the titillating conversations. read more

I can't understand all the bad reviews on here. I used to frequent this place quite often. My stylist was Tatiana R. but I heard she has been given her own store. Rightfully so too. So I go to a lot of great clips/super cuts, so my review is based on similar comparisons. This place just isn't as good as the others. My hair dresser wasn't very friendly and didn't really do a great job. I'm not all that thrilled with my cut, but it's not awful (I asked for a trim and the front piece to be angled...nothing fancy!) The prices are hard to beat, but I'll definitely walk the extra few minutes next time to try out the Great Clips. read more

Terrible place for even the most easiest hair cut. I mean in all honesty I have not found a single barber to cut my hair the way I want in Chicago, but most do an ok job. I alsmot got her mad with my questions about hair coloring and hihglights...well this was my first time and i am really not into messing up my hair..i am taking up a new job (wanna play safe now). she patiently answered each question, went over specifics..we spent around 10 minutes talking about it..looking at shades and pictures. Consistently terrible - these people are garbage at cutting hair and even worse at customer service (and also super shady!). 1st time I was here, the woman cut my EAR which was exquisitely painful. The manager came by and declared that I was not bleeding (lie) and then at the end, gave me a bandaid (why would you do that unless I was bleeding???). I thought it was a freak occurrence and came back again for convenience. Hair cut ended above the chin (NOT what I asked for) and they deny doing anything wrong. They never admit to the mistakes they make and will charge you if you ask them to fix it. My hair looks like a mess. I asked for thinning and I ended up with an asymmetrical cut with lots of frays - it looks like a nightmare. Avoid at all costs. This is a lesson in giving 2nd chances. read more

A Hair Nightmare is what they should rename this place. I have been to super low cost Salons to super high end and they give effort and great customer service. I entered this place and everyone seemed so unmotivated and sad. It was a take a number type deal and whoever you get, you get. Didn't ask any questions about what I was looking for or seemed of any interest to even know. I get my turn and I show her a easy simple cut I would consider and she barely grazed it with her eyes. Asked how short on side and top, I tell her while still referring to picture she hardly even looked at. She begins to cut, and after about 5 minutes, not even kidding you. She begins to clean me off to finish. My hair on top is in a jumble as she didn't style or even comb it to see if she even achieved the look I was going for. In shock, I ask can she cut a bit more on top to create texture, and she's like "sure." Again about 2 minutes she starts cleaning me off again. I said that I couldn't tell if it was what I was looking for since she didn't even attempt to style or comb my hair in any way. She replies, once you wash it and blow-dry it, it'll fall into place. In shock and horror I go to pay and want scream when I leave in outrage. So I go home and wash my hair, cuz you know, haircuts work like that, it just falls into place. Completely butchered my hair. If you are look for a simple 2 on the sides and 3 on top, go to this place. Anything else, run far away from this place. I will attach photos of what I wanted and what I got. read more

Yeah I went here for a quick trim. And what? It's super close to me, I just wanted to get in and out and walk home for a nap. Now that's what I'm talkin about. I just needed 2 inches chopped off of my long hair, a little refresher on the bangs cuz it badly needed it before I head out of town. Now I'm not going to make this a regular thing.. I like my regular stylist but couldn't fit in last minute- I'm impulsive and don't like waiting see. So for a quick fix for 15 bucks- no shampoo, it's great. I ducked in after the lunch rush and it was nice and quiet with mostly older businessmen clientele. I hear this location can be really busy with tourists and office drones. I decided to walk down to Supercuts based on reviews I saw online. The reviews for Veronica seemed too good to be true. So I checked in online and got there five minutes early. Veronica took me right away. I told her I haven't had a good haircut since moving to Chicago a year and a half ago and had been getting my haircut on the road or in my old town I moved from. She asked how I like it and listened intently. Wow! Fantastic job! It was exactly how I wanted. Unfortunately I am moving in a few months out of state. I wish I had found her sooner! i usually don't mind getting my haircut at this place...it's cheap and they usually do a decent job. however, after my last experience i was very disappointed with super cuts. my hair stylist cut my hair uneven, and i didn't realize how uneven my hair was until i went home. so, i went back to supercuts later that day to get it fixed and the manager was nice enough to try and fix my hair and he completely agreed that the original hair stylist really messed up my hair. the manager gave me a card to come back for a free hair cut and he said he would personally cut my hair. i went out of town for about 10 days and when i came back i decided to call super cuts to schedule my haircut. i tell the receptionist about my free haircut that the manager had promised me, and after she put me on hold she tells me that she spoke with the manager and apparently i had waited too long to come in for my free cut, so she wouldn't schedule me for one. what a bunch of bologna! i guess you get what you pay for and cheap prices will get you cheap people that make cheap promises. read more

It has been hard finding a reliable place downtown that gives a good haircut at a reasonable price. I tried this Supercuts which is a couple blocks from where I live. It turns out that one of my old stylists, Lilliam, is working there and she always gave me a great haircut. I went to her for several months but due to some scheduling conflicts of my own, she was not there one night and I got my hair cut by Sandra. She gave me an amazing haircut and probably the best shampoo I have ever had. I mostly see Sandra now (because she is there in the evenings) and could not be happier. Apparently, the concept of a line doesn't exist here, and neither calling two hours in advance nor calling twice before arriving to confirm a scheduled appointment with Ana mattered.
